OSX 10.7 httpd Broken? VirtualHost Overlap

HI All
Hoping someone has some suggestions for me with an issue I am having getting the OSX 10.7 getting a number of services up and running.
However I will start my questions with a particular issues I am seeing here in my system.log:
Aug  8 23:31:58 srvmacmini org.apache.httpd[1679]: [Mon Aug 08 23:31:58 2011] [warn] _default_ VirtualHost overlap on port 80, the first has precedence
Aug  8 23:31:58 srvmacmini org.apache.httpd[1679]: [Mon Aug 08 23:31:58 2011] [warn] _default_ VirtualHost overlap on port 443, the first has precedence
I am also getting a constant loop from the httpd service:
Aug  8 23:47:15 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1948]): Exited with code: 1
Aug  8 23:47:15 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Aug  8 23:47:25 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1952]): Exited with code: 1
Aug  8 23:47:25 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Aug  8 23:47:36 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1957]): Exited with code: 1
Aug  8 23:47:36 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Aug  8 23:47:46 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1962]): Exited with code: 1
Aug  8 23:47:46 srvmacmini com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
At present - none of my web interfaces for Wiki, iCal or even new server tools such as "Profile Manager" will operate correctly - iCal for example tells me the service is not running, as does Profile Manager , even though they are clearly on in the Server.app (Note to Apple: 10.6 server admin app was much cleaner!)
Checking in the httpd error log also came across this:
File does not exist: /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/RPC2
(Log entries every 10 mins looking for this RPC2 file!)
The last RPC2 issue seems to have been there since the initial Lion migration so don't think that is the issue.

I'm having the same problem, specifically when it comes to "Allow users to change their password". I have the correct ssl certificate installed, I have allow password changes checked, have restarted apache multiple times, but everytime I go to the site root and click "Change Password" I get the error "Changing passwords is turned off. You can turn it on by using the Server app on the server." When I go back to server app, I'll yet again find that the ability to allow users to change their passwords is off again. This is operating on a clean install of Lion and server.

  • Mac OSX 10.8 has broken my mac pro 2010

    I downloaded and installed 10.8 on to my Mac Pro desktop 5.1 (2010) and now cannot boot the machine.
    Cntrol R doesn't work
    Safe mode doesn't work
    Option doesn't work
    This Mountain Lion has destroyed my disk drive and now I have a useless metal box.
    ML works fine on my macbook air - it came installed - but this software cannot AND MUST NOT be used as an upgrade - unless you have apple care agreement and can wait for Amsys to get round to giving you a call
    Has anyone else had such a total failure?
    Shouldn't there be a warning on this mac version of windows vista?

    By process of elimination ML was the cause. System works fine with 10.6.8. I have perfectly good original HD (2010) and backup drives with time machine for this machine and household macbooks (wife and daughter). I download Lion, run install - and hey presto - Grey screen.
    So we have tried start - option. No use but getting better. Can actually get to device select, I can insert original disk and select it - but it will not load. I have tried the recovery drive - that goes girectly to grey
    We have tried control R and we can actually get the apple logo for a minute - before we go to grey
    shift for safe mode - similar result
    reset pram - no luck there
    Given machine worked beautifully before this update - am pretty sure ML IS the cause. Of course begs the question - why did I upgrade?! I think to mirror the macbooks where ML works as the original software.
    I believe I might not be alone with upgrade problems - but perhaps not quite so severe
    Make an appointment with your local Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. Sounds like Hardware Issues. As I stated, this is not happening to 99.9% of usures, so you have a problem with your individual Mac by the sounds of it.
    Good Luck

  • Can someone translate this HTTPD error?

    This log is from when I start the webserver from server app, I have two virtual host created that should work on port 80 and the default that runs on port 443.

    That means that "below your NamedVirtualHost specification there is no Virtual Host defined"
    VirtualHost are here to allow you to have multiple web pages below the same IP.
    A common Virtual Host definition is:
    NameVirtualHost *
        <VirtualHost *>
        ServerName www.domain.tld
        DocumentRoot /www/domain
        </VirtualHost>
        <VirtualHost *>
        ServerName www.otherdomain.tld
        DocumentRoot /www/otherdomain

    Following your Log, you have a "NameVirtualHost 83.246.3.34:80" definition without any following "<VirtualHost 83.246.3.34:80>" directive.
    All site's configuration files are in /etc/apache2/sites/

    That two messages means the same, that "there are two identical VirtualHost definitions, so i'll use the first one"
    That means that you have two "<VirtualHost XXX>" directives with the same or missing "ServerName" definition.
    The Web Server a.k.a. Apache uses the "ServerName" to forward request to one or other definition.
    Let's see an example with this missconfiguration:
    NameVirtualHost 83.246.3.34:80
      <VirtualHost 83.246.3.34:80>
      ServerName www.domain.com
      DocumentRoot /www/domain
      </VirtualHost>
      <VirtualHost 83.246.3.34:80>
      ServerName www.domain.com
      DocumentRoot /www/otherdomain
      </VirtualHost>
    ... when a connection is made to www.domain.com resoults in going to 83.246.3.34 port 80
    Then Apache doesn't know where to go (/www/domain or /www/otherdomain) so it will go to the first definition

    Aug 25 14:11:57 myserver com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    This means "Apache process exit with errors, will try to restart it in 10 sec".
    Note that previous errors should not make Apache process die.
    Aug 25 14:11:58 myserver servermgrd[36879]: servermgr_web: waiting for pid, file /private/var/run/httpd.pid.
    Aug 25 14:12:02 myserver servermgrd[36879]: servermgr_web: Cannot confirm Apache was started; missing or invalid pid file
    The ".pid" file is just a text file with the process number in it (in this case, 36879).
    This file helps other process to kill or restart the Apache's process if needed.
    That say that "no .pid file was created, or invalid file was created, for example an empty one".
    Stop the Web Server and check that the .pid file is not there (/private/var/run/httpd.pid).
    Start the Web Server and check that the .pid file is there and has the propper content.
    You can get the PID (Process ID) for a process performing a "ps" command from the command line:
    #ps aux | grep http
    make the force b with u!

    Any ideas?
    I looked thought the documens and his instuctions seem a bit over the top.  So to help we can iver start from the begining or try to fix what you have.  If you want to fix what you have I first need to know:
    1) where did you put the baikal-regular folder after you downloaded it?
    2) Can you cut and past "/etc/apache2/httpd.conf  It is wrong.
    My one is:
    macbook-cat:apache2 steve$ cat httpd.conf

  • Setting up the Apache HTTP Plugin for several BEA Servers

    Hey together,
    i would like to setup the apache http plugin for several bea-servers.
    I am running apache 1.x on my hp-ux system. There are 2 bea-server-domains on this box and both should be proxied by the plugin simultaneously.
    As far as i know it isn't possible to run 2 or more instances of the apache webserver. I heard of virtualhosts, maybe i should try this one out.
    Somebody knows how to deal with this problem or does any1 know if virtualhosts could cope with my needs?
    Thanks in advance

    Ok here i am again and i'm stuck. Here my wishes again:
    there are 2 weblogic-instances (domains) running on a machine xxx, instance A listening on port 8041, instance B listening on port 8051. I want to configure apache virtualhosts in combination with weblogic plugins, so that request with /ld will be sent to instance A while requests with /ldd will be sent to instance B. Both are no clusters. Therefore i tried it with the following configuration (httpd.conf):
    <VirtualHost xxx:8080>
         DocumentRoot "/opt/hpws/apache/htdocs"
         ServerName xxx:8080
         <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
         WebLogicHost xxx
         WebLogicPort 8041
         #MatchExpression *
         #PathPrepend=/test2
         </IfModule>
         <Location /ld>
         SetHandler weblogic-handler
         PathTrim /ld
         </Location>
    </VirtualHost>
    # VirtualHost2 = xxx:8090
    <VirtualHost xxx:8090>
         DocumentRoot "/opt/hpws/apache/htdocs"
         ServerName xxx:8090
         <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
         WebLogicHost xxx
         WebLogicPort 8051
         #MatchExpression *
         #PathPrepend=/test2
         </IfModule>
         <Location /ldd>
         SetHandler weblogic-handler
         PathTrim /ldd
         </Location>
    Doesnt really work. Can some1 help please?
    Thanks

  • Trying to configure Portal to run off the network

    Hi all,
    I am trying to configure Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8.2 to run off the network. I have taken all of the recommended steps in terms of configuring hostname, using a static IP, running and checking the ssoodatan script, updating the hosts file, and configuring a loopback adapter, but can still not make it work. The Portal works and functions fine when connected to the network, but as soon as disconnected from the network Portal returns
    Error: Timeout occurred whilst retrieving page meta data 0 ms.
    or
    Sometimes it will display the banner, but the Portlets and the Providers will instantly timeout. I have cranked up the timeout levels of JServ and the Providers but to no avail. I have put the recommended timeout, stall, requesttime, buffer, minStall, minTimeout in the zone.properties file, but no luck.
    I have noticed within the jserv.log the error message below. The link that jumps out at me is UnknownHostException: www-proxy.us.oracle.com. I did have my proxy server set at one time, but I erased it from the global settings page, and I ran the procedure I found somewhere on this discussion board to make sure it was set back to null. When I run the diag.cmd program it shows my proxy server being empty. Where could this be picking this up from, I also have proxy servers turned off in my browsers. Any suggestions or help??

    I think you must add an entry to your /etc/hosts file, as follows:
    127.0.0.1 noa noa
    and create a vhost entry on /etc/httpd/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName noa
    DocumentRoot "/srv/http/"
    <Directory "/src/http/">
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    Require all granted
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>
    Although I'm not sure if the vhost is actually necesary, but it won't harm.
    pd: if you use vhosts, remember to uncomment "Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf" con /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and restart apache
    # systemctl restart httpd

    I followed that and Java .jnlp files still do not work after downloading them manualy and double-click. What's next?
    Java -version show the right version.
    I need to get this fixed as it is thrid day when after applying OsX updates things got broken.  I would prefer to have Java functional and be exposed to security risk than not having working at all.
    How do I fix my Java .jnlp when I have all updates for 10.6.8 and running Safari 5.1.10 ?
    I do not want to upgrade as I am scared that other things will break.

  • L3 Cache Always Disabled after Boot

    Hi
    I hope someone can help.
    Basically I have only noticed this in the last few days. I had thought a few of my audio applications were showing more cpu use and thought I was losing the plot.
    But when I check in the preferences - processor, the 1MB L3 Cache always shows disabled. At first I thought my hardware had broke but I can enable it if I go into the preferences and manually do this. But I have to do this everytime I start up ..this never happened before, how do I get it to stick?
    I have checked the cache is working correctly and all reports were good.
    I dunno what to do now..Please Help.
    Thanks
    Daryl

    Its just happened again..I've managed to figure out whats causing the problem but not why its happening (10.4.7)
    The power management in osx has started acting up . I think its OSX 10.4.7 broken something, because its just started happening since then (hardware tests ok).
    The battery is alive but it stops getting charged, L3 cache gets disabled (reduced mode) and the battery meter keeps trying to calculate and is stuck wasting cpu cycles.Performance has gone out of the window.I am doing audio work so noticed straight away and just thought ... not again.
    Apple fix this please. 10.4.7 seems to have some serious issues (I've been lucky up until now)

  • Portal Login Failure

    When I try to access the Oracle Portal, I get the following error message:

    Verify that the TNS name in the connectstring entry of the DAD for this URL is valid and the database listener is running."
    Now, I've followed through the Troubleshooting section of the Configuration Guide, and it appears that everything works up until I try to access http://host.domain:port/servlet/IsItWorking. According to the documentation:
    "Failure to access indicates an issue with the Apache JServ. Most
    internal server errors are related to Apache JServs failure to start due to a port

    So now what do I do???

  • Office 2011 and WPAD Autoproxy

    We have a problem where Office 2011 will not communicate to EWS with "Automatic Proxy Discovery" enabled in the network proxy settings.
    * Outlook 2011 v14.2.4
    * OSX 10.8.2
    Before you ask, the network, DNS, Exchange etc. is working 100%.
    * WPAD or PAC config works on all devices, operating systems and browsers on that network (Win7, OSX, iOS, Droid etc.) - this includes Outlook 2011 on OSX 10.6 and 10.7.
    * Same behaviour with OSX 10.8 clean install or 10.6/10.7 upgrade.
    * Safari, Firefox and Chrome all work fine with WPAD on the same installation.
    * Outlook 2011 works with manual proxy settings on same installation.
    => Outlook 2011 + OSX 10.8 + WPAD = Broken.
    n.b. I have generated the same question with Microsoft Community forums and the verdict is it's a Mountain Lion problem.

    Hi,
    I think I am having the same issue - already since office 2008. I hoped 2011 will solve the issue but it didn't. As soon as I try to paste from Mail, Safari, Text Edit Word hangs with 100% CPU showing the beach ball. This happens on a new user account as well, pasting from firefox e.g. works fine though.
    I tried every single solution tip I found from the internet including reinstalling office (removed every office related file I found), taking care of font issues, cleaned font cache and even user caches using applejack in single user mode: Nothing helped.
    As I found out during my research MS blames Apple and vice versa and paying customers are stranded...
    Is there really no working solution for this except reinstalling OSX or buying a new machine!?
    PS all software is updated OSX 10.6.7 and office 14.1.0 SP 1

  • Flash Chart Performance Problem behind Firewall

    I am running into an issue with running Flash based charts behind a firewall.
    Database: 11.1.0.6
    Apex: 3.1.2.00.02 (Using Oracle HTTP Server via Oracle Application Server)
    Flash: 3.1.2.00.02
    I have a page the displays a 2D Line graph with three data series. When I run the report directly against my app server (URL: [http://ecydblcyorwq06/public/f?p=128:11]
    where ecydblcyorwq06 is my app server) the chart displays just fine. In
    order for the public to access this page they must go through our
    firewall called fortress. So they start by accessing the system from [https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/wplcsreports/,] which then maps to my application (128:1). The URL becomes [https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/wplcsreports/public/f?p=128:1].
    When I try to run the chart through fortress it never renders. I just
    get the "Loading Data...Please Wait" progress bar. The progress bar
    moves very slowly and never returns the chart.

    HTTP/1.1" 200 80216Is there something that I need to do from the configuration standpoint
    to make the chart work across the firewall? Do I need to do something
    with the Virtual host definition so that the XML file works properly?
    Tony

    Alright, I have modified my DAD to include the following line:
    PlsqlCGIEnvironmentList HTTP_HOST=fortress.wa.gov/ecy/wplcsreports:80
    I restarted the OHS and how I get an XML error in the chart region.
    XML Loading Failed: http://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/wplcsreports/public/apex_util.flash?p=128:11:......The thing I noticed here is that the failed URL is not HTTPS, but HTTP instead. I am guessing this is the current problem. So I went back to my httpd.conf file and tried to add the request_method directive to my virtual host definition, but this just caused the OHS restart to fail.
    httpd.conf
    <VirtualHost *>
    ServerName wplcsreports
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^/$ /public/f?p=wplcs_online:permit_search [R]
    DocumentRoot /www/pls/apex
    #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^TRACE
    Port 80
    </VirtualHost>So how do I force the XML file loading to be under the HTTPS protocol?

  • [SOLVED] cgit, apache, how to rewrite urls?

    Hello
    I'd like to use cgit like in projects.archlinux.org
    all i want is urls like
    http://domain/repo.git
    however i can only get
    http://domain/cgit.cgi/repo.git
    i tried virtual-root=/ it seems to work (links are shown as http://domain/repo.git) but i get 404s when i click on them
    how can i do that using virtualhost?

    I've did it. Here's how:
    Note: you have to put "virtual-root=/" line to /etc/cgitrc
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName git.mydomain.com
    DocumentRoot "/srv/http/cgit"
    DirectoryIndex cgit.cgi
    SetEnv CGIT_CONFIG /etc/cgitrc
    <Directory "/srv/http/cgit">
    Options FollowSymlinks ExecCGI
    Allow from all
    AllowOverride all
    Order allow,deny
    <Files cgit.cgi>
    SetHandler cgi-script
    </Files>
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^.* /cgit.cgi/$0 [L,PT]
    </Directory>
    <Directory "/srv/gitosis/repositories">
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    # To debug rewrite just enable them.
    # RewriteLog /var/log/httpd/rewrite_log
    # RewriteLogLevel 9
    ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/gitweb
    </VirtualHost>

  • Login failure on Mac Pro

    I cannot login to my my '09 Mac Pro. Ive tried restoring the system from my time machine backup, restoring my system from the back DVD that came with my Mac Pror, fixing the disk permissions, and performing disk repairs. None of these thing have allowed me to login.
    Here is some more background
    My Mac Pro has three diffent HD volumes: a 40G SSD boot volume, a 640g Seagate HD that has my var/usr diretories, and applications directory on it, and a 150g Final Cut Scratch drive that has my Final Cut Express projects on it. The SSD drive and the Seagate HD both get backed up via time machine to a 2TB external Fire Wire drive. I am running Snow Leopard on this machine. There are only two accounts on the machine, mine, and my wifes.
    My Mac Pro normally stays on all the time, this is mainly to support Itunes and my Apple TV. The only times it gets rebooted is when I have to do an update that requires one.
    So yesterday I woke my Mac Pro up, and discovered that my wall paper image was gone. I thought this was kind of puzzling, so then I quick switched over to my wife's account on the machine. It was there I notieced that a mail window that she had open contained nothing but NULL characters. This lead me to reboot the machine, and that turned out to be a mistake. Now, after a reboot, the login screen comes up, and it will accept my password, then I see a the blue login bar, and an error message comes up telling me that it cannot login at this time, and that an error occured upon login. Both accounts on the machine give the same login behavior, even after mutiple attemps to restore the system.
    It will boot onto the backup DVD that came with the machine. I can run terminals from here, and I know just enough bash shell commands to be dangerous. From the terminal, I did discover that the name of my 640g HD that contains the var/usr directories had been changed. I think my 22 month old son who loves anything with buttons may have been responsible for this.
    I suspect that somehow the connection between the Operating system on the SSD drive and the user information on the 640g HD has somehow been broken. When I ran the Disk Utility tools, errors were found on the 640g HD.
    Would changing the name of the volume that contains the var/usr diretories screw up the login process? Where can I find the login logs so I can try to figure out what is going on? Could I use the terminal in single user mode to create a new admin account, so I could at least get the machine to login to the GUI?
    I can boot the machine into single user mode, and I still remember some of my VI from college, so I think I can browse logs. I also should note that when I did my system restores, it only restored the files on my SSD drive.
    Thanks in advance,
    C. Alan

    Ok I fixed it.
    For the purposes of helping someone else in the future, I will document how I did it.
    The problem was that the volume that the had the user directory on it had accidentally been renamed. I think the culprit responsible for that was my almost 2 year old son. So when the computer went to boot up, in the user setup it was looking in the wrong place for user information. Thus, the login error.
    There are two ways to fix this (btw, this works for OSX 10.6):
    The first way...
    1. If you know what the name of the volume is supposed to be, you can boot the computer using the back DVD, and let the install progress to the point to where you find the current Volume name that has your user folder in it. Write down the current volume name, and then cancel the install.
    2. Then go to the utility menu, and open a terminal session. you then need to type in:
    diskutil rename "current volume name" "old volume name"
    In my case, my current volume name that my user directory was in was called "ALSKJD", and the old Volume name was "Macintosh HD". After I ran this command, it reset the name of the volume my user directory back to Machintosh HD. Just as a note. If you user volume name had spaces in it, you will need to use quotes around the name.
    Reboot the machine, and hopefully, all will be well.
    Now the Second Way.
    1. Now suppose you really don't remember what the volume name was? This was the problem I had, and because I had no user files on the boot drive, I couldn't boot the computer at all. Well there is a way to creating a new Admin account on a mac without booting into the operating system. As described above, you need to boot the computer with a backup DVD, and open a terminal session.
    2. Then type in:
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    Then reboot the machine. You should see the intro video and be guided through setting up an account on the machine. Then you can use this new login to boot into OSX, and fix the broken user paths using the preference panel.
    What the above command does is to erase a file that OSX places in the db directory after you first setup your machine. Erasing this file (thats what 'rm' does) will make OSX assume that the computer is being booted for the first time, and it goes through the routine of setting up an admin account.
