OSX 10.8.2 - Mouse erratic recovery from sleep

New Pro Retina, OS 10.8.2 (ML), MS Mobile Mouse 6000
I've searched for answers to this fairly exhaustively, and while I've found that a LOT of people seem to be having issues with Mountain Lion's sleep mode and peripherals, I haven't yet found out why or gotten a good answer to my problem.  Hoping someone out there can help me lock this down, maybe let me know if this is in the queue to get resolved via a patch.
PROBLEM
I have an MS mobile mouse 6000 (wireless), and I'm having sporadic problems with my mouse when my computer goes to sleep (forced, closed, etc.).  Essentially the mouse will sometimes still be active, in other times inactive and unavailable.  What I mean by that is that when I move it it doesn't recover the laptop, and when I recover the laptop (by pressing a button or the touchpad) the mouse isn't available/linked.
The bigger issue than this is what happens when I remove the USB dongle to reinitialize it.  About 50% of the time the laptop will actually crash, the other 50% of the time it'll be fine and I can just plug it in and keep working.  I know if it's going to work or not by whether the scrollbars blink when I do it... if they don't I'm hosed, since in about 2 seconds it's going to crash (there's always a slight lag between pulling it out and the crash).
SOLUTION (attempts)
I've reinstalled the driver for the mouse (and used no driver) multiple times... I don't think it's the driver, but figured I'd give it a shot, no luck.  I've tried playing with the mouse settings to force it to "wake up" to the mouse, but still no luck, and that wouldn't be a solution anyway since I can't do that every time I wake up the laptop.
I've used multiple versions of the same mouse (yes, I have lots of these mice), but no luck... they all exhibit the exact same issues.  Fiddling with the mouse itself is pointless... tried anyway, but it's clearly a software issue.
I'm kind of at my wits end on this.  It's clear there's a problem with Mountain Lion's power management and recovery, specifically how it deals with peripheral ports.  Does ANYONE know more about this?  Has the guy responsible been fired?  Is a fix in the works?
Thanks,
Rick

Thanks for you hint!

Tapping the magic mouse to raise from sleep has stopped. Why?

There have been a few threads on here about this problem - there's a long thread here that started in 10.6 and has continued into 10.7: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2223188?start=0&tstart=0
When 10.7.2 was released it initially seemed to fix things for me but unfortunately it didn't last. The only surefire 'fix' for me is to set the computer to 'never sleep' in Energy Saver prefs. Hopefully another update might resolve it - we live in hope .

  • Jumpy mouse after waking from sleep?

Ever since I installed Leopard (clean install, not an upgrade) I've been experiencing this problem. Everything has been running flawless but after about 6+ days uptime, the mouse will start lagging/jumping like crazy after waking it from sleep.
For example, I closed my Macbook Pro screen about an hour ago to head to my parents house and put it in my bag. I get here and open up the screen to wake it up and the mouse is just jumping around like crazy. I waited a few minutes thinking maybe something was loading in the background sucking up all the CPU cycles/resources, but that's not the case. This is about the third time I've seen this problem and it always occurs after waking the computer from sleep with a 5-6+ day uptime.
Anyone else experience this issue? This was never a problem in Tiger and I had 30+ day uptimes there.

I'm taking the same cruise to frustration island. My trackpad just started getting really jumpy in the last couple of days. This is after a very irritating bout with random keyboard freezes (which I still have not resolved, but feel better that I'm again on a boat with plenty of others: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1206602&tstart=0).
I've tried to figure out if there's a process that's hogging things, but that does not appear to be the case.
I guess I'll just have to wait for another OSX update or something to get this issue resolved.

  • Erratic wakeup from sleep after 10.9.2 - 2012 Mac Pro

I completed the most recent OS X upgrade yesterday on my 2012 Mac Pro and now "wake from sleep" seems to work erratically (much more often not waking up and requiring a reboot). Occasionally a quick push of the front panel power button will produce results. Nothing else has been changed on the computer so I can only believe that this upgrade has been the cause.
Anyone else having this problem? Suggestions or things to reset/check?

  • Bluetooth mouse not working from sleep

Have had this problem a couple of time's nothing major but annoying when i have woken the comp up from sleep or restarted the mouse will work as a pointer only clicking is not recognized only way to to it working is to turn mouse off and on

    HI Karl,
When you wake you Mac from sleep mode, it can take about 5 seconds for the system to recognize any wireless devices. Just move the mouse around slowly on the mouse pad for a second or two.
    Also, in System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse/Bluetooth. Select this box;
Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.

  • Cannot detect Mighty mouse after waken from Sleep

If i wake my book from sleep, the bluetooth app will not be able to detect the might mouse. And I also cannot switch off the blue tooth app at that time. I was trying to restart the bluetooth assistant but it fails.
Any of you has such problem ?

all I can say is, you are not alone. I've got the same problem just as many other with my BT Mighty Mouse and BT Keyboard.

  • Portege R830-10R: No USB connection after recovery from sleep mode

    Good day!
I've been experiencing the following problem on my Portege R830-10R for a long time.
Quite frequently, when it recovers after sleep mode it loses ability to recognize connected USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.
After some time, like 10-15 minutes of working (or never), the problem becomes solved by itself, but normally it is not the case.
If I try to send the laptop to hibernate or sleep mode again, while this problem is active, lets say, it does not hibernate and hangs on a half way with a black screen - so I have to shut it down manually and then start again.
Normally, the only way to resolve the problem is to restart it, but the issue comes back after next sleep mode.
Has anyone had something like that? Any solution available?

I agree that it may resolve the issue, I tend to see the root of the problem inside the software part.
However, I was curious to know whether it was possible to treat it without recovery - I have a lot of software installed and complete recovery of the laptop to the state as it is now may take several days.
Anyway, great thanks for your help!

  • Mouse waking computer from sleep

I'm using a wireless USB Logitech mouse with my MacBook. Moving the mouse wakes the computer from sleep and I would like to disable this function. Is there a way to change the setting so the computer requires a keystroke to wake it?
    Thanks.

I'd rather not buy a new mouse if I don't have to. I found this link http://www.macyourself.com/2008/08/28/prevent-accidental-wake-ups-when-an-apple- laptops-lid-is-opened/ that shows how to disable the lid wake function in terminal. Is there a mouse wake disable code in terminal?

  • Mouse wakes computer from sleep

Any time I close the lid on my MacBook Pro, and accidentally hit my mouse, it wakes the computer from sleep. How can I stop this? There is no "mouse" wake option in Energy Saver, so where can I turn it off?

Check under *Keyboard & Mouse* in preferences. Mine is a wireless bluetooth mighty mouse and it's under Bluetooth I don't have a USB mouse but from this article there may not be a switch for turning the wake up off.

  • USB Mouse wakes X230 from sleep

    Good morning!
I've been having the problem of my new X230 waking from sleep for seemingly no reason. Thanks to responses here, I have narrowed it down to the USB mouse, I think. I would appreciate it if someone could give me info on the steps to take to stop this behavior.
I have set the mouse properties NOT to wake the computer and also changed it in the power management, but the behavior still happens. Do I need a complete restert to have these settings take effect? Is there anything else to try - a driver or using a different USB port? Right now if I put the computer to sleep and turn off the mouse it is fine - if I turn the mouse on and move it before I wake the computer - the mouse movement wakes it.
This is a brand new X230, Win 7.
    Thanks!
    Lily

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IBook: erratic waking from sleep

I leave my new iBook 12" on sleep during the day when I'm out and about in my bag. Sometimes when I come to switch it on it refuses to wake. There is battery and the keys respond as I can see the lights on the caps lock and the num lock.
Any ideas? Does this sound like faulty hardware? I have reinstalled OSX and it hasn't solved it.

I'm telling you. I have lost all faith with Apple. The old iBook I had, 800MHz G4, simply worked fine with no problem waking up or starting up, although it's just a bit slow. Now, I am super frustrated when it just couldn't wake up, either with the sleep light flashing or not, ie it's black screen initially and when I press the Power button once to get it back to life, it just stays black!!!
So the only thing to do is to force power down by pressing the Power button for 10 seconds. Then I press the Power button once to start up, but it just stays black screen. I've left my iBook in that state for a day now, hoping that it will come back alife. But no! And the worst is, I had a similar problem starting up from wake just the day before. I called the Help Desk and they advised me step by step, from taking out the battery, to pressing OptionsCommand+PR, and OptionsCommand+OC, and doing Apple Hardware Test. The iBook seems to just work fine while on the phone with them. And barely 3 hours later, the thing just couldn't wake up. I've powered down and up many times now, and I've left it powering up, but still black screen till now (one day already).
Finding out about resetting PMU on the support page, I've also tried that, but it still can't work.
I am in fact ****** off! If Macs are great, then why me? Why my iBook? I am telling this forum that we cannot accept a big corporation giving us sub-standard products. I've since read this forum carefully and found that many of us faced the same problem! We just cannot sit down idly and let the company get away with it. This is a warning to fellow users out there that face this same problem. Let us voice out our frustrations and make Apple give us some compensation for it. I say this because I depend on my laptop iBook for presentation to clients, and this happened exactly twice when I was in front of my clients. I don't mind losing face but can Apple compensate me for my loss of business and future business from my clients?
Voice out strongly your unhappiness to Apple now! And now this stupid software is censoring legitimately normal language! The first censor should be "seems to just work fine while on the phone"

  • Bluetooth Mouse and wake from sleep

I have a MS Bluetooth Mouse (Presenter 8000).
It paired ok, and connected. I used it all afternoon and love the feel and responsiveness - although I did loose the connection a few times). Anyway I returned from dinner to find that the system had gone to sleep. The mouse wouldn't wake it (yes I have that option set). So I dug out my old Apple mouse and plugged it in. When I went to the Bluetooth options on the menu bar I got the spinning beachball. Everything else worked fine but nothing on the menu bar (network, volume, date/time, etc can be used - although spotlight was fine).
I relaunched finder but that didn't help. I suspect that a reboot will be requited to get back full functionality. Is there any way to restart the Bluetooth app behind the menu bar BT icon?
So is my new $80 mouse - which I love - going to be too much of a pain with these 10.5.2 bugs?
Anyone else using a Bluetooth mouse? I can't believe I am having this much problem.
I did not install any software from the MS disk, was I meant to do so?

Seems I am the only one using a Bluetooth mouse. I went a bought a mouse with an RF receiver and have packed the BT mouse away.

  • No response from builtin keyboard/mouse on wake from sleep

When waking my powerbooks (both have tiger installed) there is no response from the built in devices (trackpad/keyboard) for roughly 20 seconds. An external mouse already connected works as usual.
This is a pain especially when you just want to check the dashboard or something quickly.
The second powerbook didn't have the problem on 10.3.9, but when I installed Tiger on it, the same problem happened straight away. There aren't any thrid-party extensions installed on the computer.
I haven't been able to find anyone else with the same problem, if anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated, thanks.
    12" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I also can offer no help....
But today I was working in MS word (2001, no service pack added) while using a bluetooth mouse, and itunes. With a word document opened I took a break from writing and listened to music on iTunes for about 15 minutes (I think my computer went to sleep... at least the monitor did). when I was done and started using word again the vast majority of the keypad did not work. the F buttons did work, as did 4-delete, and u to \, but everything else on the keypad did not work at all. Restarting word did not fix it, restartign the computer did not fix it, but turning the computer off and then back on did fix it (which was good because the keypad did not even allow me to enter my password at startup).
This was a 12" 1.5gig powerbook using office X (no service pack) and the OS 10.4.6. Again, since then I downloaded the office service pack.
    odd issue.

  • Turning off Mighty Mouse wakes computer from sleep

    Two part issue:
After sleeping the computer I find that the "power down" on the Mighty Mouse causes the computer to awake!! Does anyone have a solution to this Mouse-killing problem?
I find no instruction about shutting the Mighty Mouse (MM) off when it is not in use (say for overnight). I do see references to relatively short battery life so I imagine that we should power-down the MM when possible. But, the MM appears to be engineered pretty cheaply and it appears that it may not survive many cycles of power up-down. Anyone with thoughts on this?

Bluetooth or USB devices won't wake up a portable running off of battery power. That probably doesn't help you, but I thought I'd note that. I don't think moving the switch actually triggers the wakeup. Of course you can't do that without holding it by the shell, which almost always senses a button press because of the design of the entire shell as right or left buttons.
If you leave your mouse powered-on for a while, it should eventually go into standby mode with reduced power consumption. I use rechargeable batteries, so I don't worry too much about battery life. The batteries lasts several weeks before I need to recharge them and I can keep a charged set handy.
So I take it you're using the mouse to select going to sleep in the pull-down menu and then try turning off the mouse. At least with a portable I can turn the mouse off first then either use the trackpad to put it to sleep or just close the lid.
