OSX 10.9.5 - Unclickable area in Lightroom 5

Have a strange issue with Lightroom 5 on my Mac. There seems to be an area that is to the upper right of the screen that is not clickable and doesn't recognize the mouse. For example, in Libray view if you hover over images, they highlight without clicking. In this area, which in my current zoom is about three thumbnails high by three thumbnails wide (appx 3in x 3in with my current screen) that doesn't seem to recognize that the mouse exists. This same area translates to other sections of Lightroom. In Develop, I cannot grab the image or make adjustments directly to this area. Other areas of the image / screen work just fine. Now for the really strange part, if I grab the entire application and move it one direction or the other, this area seems to stay constant, as in it doesn't move with the application. If I move it down... I can no longer click on areas higher than before but I can then click on the images that were unclickable before. It's like there is a dead spot in a specific area of the screen where Lightroom doesn't recognize the mouse but it is static on the screen and not in the application! If I minimize the application or swap to a different display panel within my computer there are no issues in this area. It's only when LR is up that this area is 'dead'.
Any thoughts on this? I am going to give my computer a reboot and check for updates.

Well, I've answered my own question! I guess I'm so used to not restarting my Mac that I didn't even consider it.
After a reboot, the un-clickable area seemed to fix itself. Very odd. Hopefully if someone else finds this issue they will see this... or just do a reboot!

On your friend's computer with an internet connection, log into the Mac App Store with your ID and download Yosemite from the Purchases section of the Mac App Store. The make a bootable USB install media using
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
Then boot from that on your computer and install
You need an internet connection to install via Recovery mode

  • I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

Are they taking space in all of these locations?
It depends on how you are using iPhoto and Aperture.
iPhoto and Aperture each create their own library files, and the default location for them is in /users/youruseraccount/Pictures
You can configure iPhoto and Aperture to use the same Library file, in which case your photos are only stored once.  But if you are using iPhoto & Aperture with independent library files, you may in fact be duplicating your storage.
The second consideration is whether or not you have configured iPhoto and/or Aperture as reference libraries, in which case their library files only reference photos you have stored in other places on your hard drive.  Setting them up as reference libraries does not duplicate the photos inside the library files.

  • I just upgraded to mountain lion osx and now my applications are crossed out and out of date. they will not run. how do i fix this?

I just upgraded to mountain lion osx and now my applications are crossed out and out of date. they will not run. how do i fix this?

Here is a recent post I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open, modify and save your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

  • Camera Raw 8 the same cropping choices as are in Lightroom and Photoshop?

Seriously, how hard would it be to give Camera Raw 8 the same cropping choices as are in Lightroom and Photoshop (i.e., Fibonacci, Triangle, Diagonal, etc.)? This disparity in features is inexcusable and embarrassing. Surely the teams communicate?

I don't have CC nor LR.  Just be sure you are comparing apples to apples
That is a nice statement for a Windows guy…
I never use crop in ACR because I like this feature more in PS itself. Also the inability to save crop presets in ACR makes it very limited. The ACR engine for PS and LR are the same, the body differs.
Thanks to hard yelling people we now have about the same crop tool in PS as in LR. Although I still don't like it in PS, after having used it years and years I now have to move the image instead of the crop.
Sadly the ability to rotate crop and having adjust it automatically to the borders is a very nice option. If it wasn't for this I would stay with the old classic mode.
But the OP is right, many features in different Adobe Products have somewhat the same result but sometimes very different approaches, options and tools.
Until the Adobe HQ is going to settle in Utopia we might be better off trying to learn living with it

  • Safari 4.0.3 running OSX 10.6.1 -  Pages are loading but NOT thumbnails?

Just upgraded to OSX 10.6.1 running Safari 4.0.3 last week - everything was working BEFORE the upgrade - but now for some reason I have an issue where pages ARE loading including larger banners, text flash animations etc, but if the site contains small thumbnails they are not loading.
The icon in the web bar spins and spins for ages and then suddenly where the thumbnails should be I get the blue question make as if the links are broken - which there not as this is happening to well know sites such as youtube gettyimages and ebay and its just to the thumbnails?????
Take ebay for example, the homepage page loads in fine, and if I search for a product - the page with the listing all loads but not the thumbnail images, yet if I click a listing the full page loads without a problem?
Any advice, I have cleared the cookies and javascript database all to no avail?

  • Almost afraid to ask... Where are my Lightroom files?

I've upgraded to LR3 from 2 and in the process Lightroom has chosen to create a new catalog, or at least I think that's the proper term. What was 'Name' catalog with all of my images is now 'Name-2' with all of my images. What happened to the simple straightforward 'Name' catalog and why can't I go back to it? I think the starting point would be to ask where these files reside that LR uses to create a catalog? I know where my images are and they are all in one location all in one folder with sub-folders by year and by date within the years. My image files are okay, and do not move. It's the way LR is working that has me wondering if I can go back and re-name the catalog it now wants to use for my images to the simple name and not with the appended '-2'.
    TIA,
    Ken

Ken, it has -2 because it's an upgraded catalog. The old catalog won't work in Lightroom 3, and Lightroom won't delete the original catalog in case something goes wrong during the upgrade. You wouldn't want to be left with no catalog at all, if something were to happen.
Your files don't exist inside Lightroom, they exist where you have then on the disk. Lightroom only references them.
As for renaming, you can rename away. Just make sure you also rename the corresponding Previews files.
e.g. if your catalog file is Name.lrcata, your previews file is Name Previews.lrdata. Renaming means having them as NewName.lrcat and NewName Previews.lrdata.
What happens if you don't do this? Lightroom will create a new Previews folder on its own, but it'll be empty and need all previews rendered, and the old previews file will be left orphaned, wasting space on your drive.

  • Folder Not Shown But Photos Are In Lightroom

I work on a Mac.  I keep newer images on my hard-drive, and older images on a network drive.
I decided to move all of my 2014 folders and files from my hard drive to my network drive.  The wrinkle was: the directory on my network drive is the exact same as my hard drive, and the network drive also serves as my backup location. This means the files and folders on my hard drive already existed on my network drive.  I simply needed Lightroom to find them there.    Because they are already on the network drive I cannot simply drag/drop the folder within LR, or LR will give me an error (folder already exists).
So, I backed everything up.  Made certain that all the photos were imported into LR from the hard-drive folder (called 2014), then, I renamed the folder on my hard-drive to "2014_Local".  Voila!  Lightroom can't find it.  So, I right click on the folder from within LR and tell LR where to find it... on the network drive.
Uh oh.  Lightroom created a new "Volume"  (My network drive is "home", LR created "home-1".)  I think I've managed to get past that by having LR "merge" the folders.  Now the photos are all in LR, but the direcory (2014) does NOT appear in the left-hand panel where my files and folders are listed.  I can see the photos.  I can right-click and ask LR to "Show In Finder" and the source is right.  I can search and find files in LR and they do in fact point to the 2014 folder on the network drive, but the folder and subdirectories for the 2014 version on the network drive just do not appear in LR.  My file list is: 2012...2013... AnAlphaDirectory...   Where is the 2014 folder inside the LR directory structure?
    What in the world?
Can anyone help solve this mystery?
    Steve

I deleted the preferences file after rebooting, restarted LR5 and Voila! the "missing" folder appeared.
For future reference by others: I think the key is restarting LR. Others of us have noticed that when you rearrange the folder structure across drives using Update Folder Location, LR's display of volumes and folders can get confused; but restarting LR fixes the problem.

  • When Using iOs 7.1.2 OSX 10.9.4 notes are not syncing via USB. When will this be fixed. Not interested in iCloud or IMAP solution.

When Using iOs 7.1.2 with mac OSX 10.9.4 mavericks notes are not syncing via USB.
When will this be fixed ? Not interested in iCloud or IMAP solution. it worked before,  I can't really
understand why apple would change one of my favorite features. I use the notes feature to
capture  quick ideas on the road and having it synched on my computer and my phone was very useful.
Previous blog posts elsewhere indicated this would be fixed in the latest rev of iOS, OSX and iTunes.
But alas after the recent update it's not. Really Annoying.

  • All my MacBook Air iPhoto (9.5.1 on OSX 10.9.4) albums are missing; where have they gone?

All my iPhoto (vs.9.5.1) albums (normal, smart and folders) are missing. On MacBook Air (2GB, 128GB SSD, OSX 10.9.4)
Where have they gone, and how can I get them back?

    Give this a go:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Help with left side panel area in lightroom 5

I am having trouble with left side panel  in, library - lightroom 5. I don't seem to be able to open more than one area at a time. ie: if I open catalog and then try to open folder..catalog will close. I have also noticed that the little triangle that I click on to open and close an area is not a solid triangle but is kind of dotted. Have I done something to change the settings or something? I want to set up a new collection but I can't open both folder and collection at the sametime. HELP!

Right click next to one of the headers and a popup will let you change how the panel is displayed. See screen capture.

I have a brand new install of Lightroom on an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, and when I switch over to the "Map" module, the UI displays fine but there's no map information whatsoever displayed in the area of the window where the map would go - all that's shown is a gray background.

  • OSX Lion jpeg 'preview' images are blurry after altering them

When i edit a photograph in photoshop (cs3/cs4 etc, it doesnt matter which version) the preview of that image goes blurry after its saved. The image is the full res still and hasnt lost any quality but when i have the icons that are of a large size they appear really blurry and 'low-res'
I know its a small gripe but it makes things difficult as a photographer when im trying to organise images that perhaps look similar or i want to see as a whole set.

Hello, sorry, I don't know the cure for this, but as a photographer you might have a look at Tr-Catalog, where you can choose the size thumbnail/icon/detail...
