OSX and wireless (third party) print server problems - 'host is busy' again
The setup:
MBP running OSX 10.5.2
Zyxel NSA-220 (with latest firmware) hardwired to a Lynksys wireless router (running Tomato firmware)
Canon PIXMA iP4500 with CUPS+Gutenprint v5.1.7 drivers
I'm trying to set up the NSA as a print server. I can ping the NSA, it shows up fine in finder and I can access the shares on the discs - all wirelessly.
However the Canon setup program can't locate the printer when it tries to align the print heads, so I tried using Print & Fax to set up IP printing, with LPD as protocol and the IP address of the NSA, selecting CUPS drivers rather than the Canon ones.
The issue comes when I try to print and get locked in a 'Network host x.x.x.x is busy' cycle that never ends. I switched from M$ about 12 months and think I'm reasonably computer literate but feel like a mac newbie when problems like this hit. Grateful for any advice.
I helped another postee with a SimpleShare NAS. Reading the user documentation for the device, it showed the Windows connections using smb, ie you simply browse to the device via Network Neighborhood, double-click then select the printer name.
To use smb on the Mac, you select Windows Printing when you add the printer, then browse to the workgroup, then the Zyxel computer name and then the printer share name. Note that if the printer share name has spaces and too many characters, it can cause problems so keep the name short, such as iP4500, and don't have any spaces.
With regards to the current use of LPD as the protocol, this will be the cause of the network busy error as the device probably doesn't support UNIX print services (which btw is what you need to enable on Windows Server if you were to connect the same way).
One final note. The recent Security Update 2008-002 stopped some users from connecting to their current Windows share. One workaround has been to add the user account information into the queue name. This can be done by modifying the view for the Print & Fax Add Printer dialog box, so that the Advanced Printing option appears. Control-click on the icon bar in the Add Printer dialog box and then select Customize then Advanced. Within this selection will be the option to use Windows Printing via SAMBA. This lets you add the printer with all the necessary info, such as the example following.
smb://NSAusername:password@NSA_IPAddress/iP4500
Once you have entered the queue name, you can then browse to the Canon Gutenprint v5.1.7 iP4500 driver.

Print Server - Network host is busy
I have set up SLS as a print server with an HP laserjet connected via usb.
If I add the printer to OSX10.6 clients I get an error whenever I try to print anything stating the "network host xx is busy will retry in 30 seconds"
I can print no problem from Windows clients - just not Macs
Any ideas most welcome - I have tried pretty much everything I can think of at this stage?I had exactly the same issue with a Epson USB printer. I do not have a Windows machine, but all the Macs were showing "Network host is busy, will retry in..."
It is working now. I did the following:
Installed the printer as a USB printer on the OS X server
In Server Admin, at the server.local, I selected the services tab, and put a check mark against Firewall.
I then selected the Firewall service and under the service tab, I allowed traffic on IPP and LPR ports.
I then recreated my print queue using only IPP as protocol.
My client could connect to this printer as it was advertised as a Bonjour printer @ servername.
This works even though I have not turned on the firewall service (no green dot) but it seems toggling these ports choices in the Firewall service did something.
Good luck. -
My wife has been having problems with Safari, and many third party software and malware programs infecting her Mac Book Pro. I have tried to reset Safari but it keeps coming back, taking over Safari, changing defaults, start pages, and search engines, Etc.
Is it safe to use programs like MacKeeper, who keeps send my wife's computer message and alerts, or should I just wipe the drive and start over?
SkipI am having lot's of lag time with Safari, etc..
I'll type in a website.. and it will take 15-20 seconds to start..

How can I force the close of a third party ActiveX server.
We have a third party ActiveX executable that refuses to shut itself down once in a while. And when I say once in a while, I mean one out of every 20-30 times it's attempted. All termination commands are being sent and recieved properly, and all refnums are being closed. No errors are ever generated, all operations report successful, but the thing just won't die. Problem is of course, that if we attempt to restart our software after the ActiveX app fails to terminate, it generates server execution errors when trying to open a new instance. We are not expecting a speedy resolution from the third party, but it is becoming a great inconvenience for our customers. I would like to be able to kill the process thro
ugh the OS as a last resort. Problem is, to do that I need a ProcID. Is there any way to retrieve a ProcID for the ActiveX server through LabVIEW? Alternatives and suggestions are welcome.Hello codeman,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding closing a third party ActiveX server. It sounds like the third party application is having trouble closing. There are several Windows Utility VIs available that could help in this case. One of the Utility VIs is called Get Window Refnum and should return an instance of a Windows window. The following links are great resources when dealing with this issue.

Report export to third party syslog server
Hi all,
Is there a way to send the Cisco ACS secure server report to third party syslog server?
Example: for audit purpose, i need the data extract from Monitoring & Reports > Reports > Catalog > AAA Protocol
I trying by create new remote log targets, the IP is pointing to third party syslog server.
and at the logging categories > global, i apply the new create log collector to all logging categoires.
Am i doing it right?
please comment, thanks
NoelHi Yong,
Yes that's possible. You can use the web interface to configure logging category messages so that they are sent to remote syslog server targets
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.3/user/guide/logging.html#wp1052741
ACS provides these preconfigured global ACS logging categories, to which you can assign log targets.

Wireless third party client utility to support GTC authentication
Hi,
I would llike to know if any wireless third party client utility is available to support desktop users to get authenticated via GTC.This wireless accesspoints is cisco & aironet clients does not support widows OS vista & 7.The users using OS are WinXP, Vista & Win7. The GTC is used from RSA server & the RSA token can be viewed from handheld RSA device. On board wireless utility on above mentioned OS do not provide options for RSA token to be entered.
Please help. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Shivani.Hi Nicolas,
Thanks for writing. The basic idea would is to get RSA authentication for wireless users. They are not guest users infact they would be users from different branch location moving to HO & vice versa at any location they move users should get access to their defined resources with in the network. Is there a possibility for manupalation by introducing maybe for eg NAC or some other solution which can be integrated with in the network.
I hope i make sense?!

Hi~ I'd like to know what the difference is between Outlook features using exchage server and using 3rd party mail server.
If I use 3rd party mail server with Outlook, Outlook features are the same as Exchange Server ?
I want to use all Outlook features..The basic features (and many advanced features) are identical in all accounts. With pop3, your mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, notes are stored in a pst and are only on the computer. IMAP accounts only sync email back to the server, not calendar,
contacts, and tasks. Outlook.com EAS accounts (aka Hotmail) syncs calendar and contacts back to the server. Exchange mailboxes stores everything on the server - mail, calendar, contacts, custom views, rules - and if you open the mailbox in outlook on
any other computer, the mailbox is identical. Because everything is on the server, you'll have much better syncing with smartphones and tablets with Exchange mailboxes.
Calendar sharing, open other users folder, and retention policies are Exchange-only. Mail Tips and apps (linked under the reading pane header in Outlook 2013) are Exchange-only.

Logon Problem in to third party HTTP Server using HTTP Adapter
Hi All,
I am trying to use a receiver HTTP Adapter to communicate to third party asp based Webserver.
The Server expects the content type as application/x-www-form-urlencoded.
So, in the HTTP receiver communication channel I gave content type as application/x-www-form-urlencoded. The Problem is that now we are getting logon error message from the application though we use the correct user and password provided by them.
They have given us a HTTP test tool which is perfectly working with the user ad password used in PI HTTP Adapter receiver channel.
kindly share your thoughts on this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Sudharshan N ASatish,
I have used Non-SAP logon only..
I doubt that the problem may be due to some encoding issue.. since the webserver expects a different Content type (application/x-www-form-urlencoded).
I donno if my doubt is logical
thanks.

Macs And A WGPS606 Netgear Print Server
Hi there, having a spot of bother, lol
I have a pc laptop and 2 mac laptops.
set the print server up with pc laptop, and it works a treat, no problems! thou i did connect 1printer and its in port 2, but following the instructions on the web i changed everything where necessary and pc lappy works a treat.
Now the macs.
1stly i installed the printer to work with a usb lead and it works on them both fine.
Then
I followed the instructions available from http://kbserver.netgear.com/kbwebfiles/N101570.asp
and when i get to select the printer type and model, the one i'm wanting to setup isnt listed, even thou its installed, and when you use the autodetect it comes up with a generic somet or other that doesnt work.
How do i get my printer listed or where do i find the file containing the driver info?
Ive seen a few of these problems crop up, but never the answers,
any help would be greatly apreciated!
MarkHi, G.
Have you enabled AppleTalk in the System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > AppleTalk tab?
I'd recommend posting your question on one of the AirPort & AirPort Express Discussions as that's where the experts on third-party wireless routers tend to be found. Try searching that Discussion first as it is very likely someone has already asked about the Linksys device you cited.
I agree with sig that you should provide complete details about your Mac, AirPort card, the printer, and the exact model of the Linksys device.
Good luck!

MarkDo you have a postscript printer? - otherwise this is going to be a two-step problem.
Driver - Only CUPS drivers can use OS X's built-in network printing protocols. (postscript printers don't need a driver, just a PPD) Of all the non-postscript manufacturers, only Brother is making CUPS drivers available at this time. (Apple included Gimp-Print drivers because they are CUPS drivers - a limited number of printers are supported)
For the others, you need a third-party CUPS driver from these sources:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/
http://www.printfab.net/
http:/www.easysw.com/printpro/
Next - print server setup. Since the Windows setup software doesn't work on OS X, we need to find the setup details ourselves. Your print server probably supports a couple of protocols- LPD, maybe IPP, and HP Jetdirect (called TCP/IP raw in most manuals). LPD and IPP require that you enter the print server's queue name in Printer Setup. Find the Queue name in the manual. L1, P1 and lp are common queue names.
Good luck.
