OSX compatible scanning software

I'm trying to find compatible software to use with my Canon Canoscan LDE 50 scanner, any suggestions? I'm running OSX 10.8.5

You have tried the built in image capture.app
If that can't find your scanner, you'll need to try Cannon

  • Small scanning software?

    Hi everyone,
I have the LaserJet M1132 MFP All-in-one system but I never used it for scanning, just for printing and copying, because i had another compact scanner. So I only had the driver installed on my computer so that they could communicate while printing. But I'm now getting rid of that scanner and I need a small, compatible scanning software that I could use for scanning with my 1132. And I don't want to use the huge 212 MB MFP full solution. I'm not a fan of these fancy looking, slow programs for users who don't know how to use computers. I want a small, simple program with all the scanning settings (like the resolution, save directory, size etc.) on one screen.. any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lukas

Welcome to the HP Forums luky,
I see by your post that you would like to be able to scan with small compatible scanning software.
I can help you with this.
As long as the scanning drivers are already installed on the computer through the setup, you can use the Windows scanning software on the computer or a third party software.
Here is a document for how to Scan.
Select your operating system and How to scan without HP software.
If you want to be able to edit the scans and save them as PDF files, you will need to use the HP software for these features.
    Have a nice day!

  • Max OS X compatible scanning pen

Does anyone know of a Mac OSX compatible scanning pen -- one you can use to highlight text in a box (without marking up the book) and put it on the Mac to insert into papers/documents.
IRIS has one, but you must use it while connected to the Mac itself. I'm hoping in this day and age of such wonderful computer advances that there was a system that could just store the scans in the pen and download at a later time without having to connect while scanning.
Any recommendations? Does seem to be a market for this out there
    Thanks

You could google 'Pen Scanner' and find the info yourself or read david Pogue's article from last year:

  • Decent Mac OS 10.9 HP Officejet J6400 scanning software

Up until Mountain Lion or Mavericks I used to use a nice scanning utility from HP called HP scan that added to the OS X built in capabilities for my OfficeJet device.  That software is not compatible with Mavericks and the scanning interface provided by Mac OS is just awful.
Does anyone know of simple scanning software that will work with the HP OfficeJet J6400 series and Mac OS 10.9?
I have to scan a lot of receipts for work and loved the control and multi-file support of HP Scan.

Thanks for the info.  I've started using Image Capture and it is working good enough.  I haven't been able to find a suitable HP Scan download and for my purposes I'm not going to pay for the VueScan software (although I'll keep it in mind in case my needs change).
Image Capture gives me the basic control I was looking for, just have to get used to the different interface than what HP Scan had.
I guess they call this progress.

  • I need HP Scan software but can't find it

I have just installed my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M176n and it prints and copies fine.
But I really need to scan to email and pdf - and I understand I can do this through HP Scan Software - but I cannot find it anywhere to download and install it.
Please help direct me to it!

  • How can I enable Mac OS 10.6.4 to run OS Classic scanning software?

    Hi there.
Just wondering how I can enable Mac OS 10.6.4 to run an OS Classic compatible scanning program?
    Is this at all possible?
(I have a scanner that I've used for years, and the software to run it, however, it's Classic OS software, which I've been able to run on OS 10.4. But since upgrading to OS 10.6, I'm not sure I can use it.)
    Cheers.

Basically, you can't: Intel Macs and Leopard don't support Classic. There is a program called Sheepshaver which is in effect an OS9 emulator: but it's a major hassle to get it working, not least because you have to find a PowerMac ROM image and you may find that difficult.
You would do better to try to find some compatible scanner software. Try Image Capture (in your Applications folder) for a start - it might recognize the scanner. Otherwise try VueScan.

  • I have lost my Silverfast scanning software since downloading Lion. Lion is proving a nightmare - particularly as I was originally told it would work with Silverfast. I also cannot use my Epson 2100 printer. Not a very pro ufgrade Apple. Anyone help?

Can not use Silverfast scanning technology or my Epson 2100 Colour Stylus printer since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion. I had been assured that Silverfast would work and had no idea the printer would become redundent! Not Good information from Apple!! Anyone out there help?

    Hi, Peter;
    The culprit is Silverfast.
The company went as far as telling owners and new customers back in March that their software would work with Lion ("buy Silverfast version 6.6 now, and get a free upgrade to Version 8 when it we release it in late August!").  Days after Lion came out, the German software maker issued a statement that their current version is NOT compatible with Lion (knocking all of their Mac customers out of the scanning business until the newer, functional Silverfast version is ready.)
On the company's owners-only discussion groups, Mac customers have expressed outrage that manufacturer Lasersoft was not clearer on this meltdown in the making.  Users have either had to re-install Snow Leopard, stop scanning for the next several weeks, or buy, install and learn different scanning software.
Lasersoft has even "re-written history"; pulling earlier press coverage (which claimed their software would work with Lion) and "clarifying" that the Version 8 software (which they say will work with Lion) will be available for purchase sometime next month.  The moderator has actually censored or deleted entries offering the name of rival VueSoft (which is Lion compatible), and has removed posts from dissatisfied customers.
Lasersoft discussion groups are amusingly Orwellian right now, with counter accusations hurled at customers who are just trying to get their software to work. Company spokesmen are issuing clumsily-worded taunts instead of apologies or simple damage control language.  UPDATE: the company has now removed some of their own more uncaring responses to users, but there is still some funny reading there.
The whole episode begs the question of what Lasersoft was doing between spring and fall of this year when they should have been preparing a more seamless transition to Lion.  New customers who purchased the pricey Silverfast software in March are doubly out of luck-- the “free upgrade”  to Lion-compatible version 8 only applies to purchases made after June first.

  • Osx "HP Scan" -- how to automatically suffix numbers/dates to saved files

I moved my setup from Windows to OSX recently.  I used the HP Scan application on Windows, and that had the ability to save files using names that were automatically generated, provided a prefix is configured.  The application would automatically include an incremented serial number based on the files already present in the destination folder.  Eg Scan0001.pdf, Scan0002.pdf, etc... and i don't have to take care of the numbering.
In the OSX HP Scan app (it reports Version 4.4.1, and i am using it on a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus), how do i achieve the same functionality?
The Save dialog allows me to enter a 'Prefix'.  So it suggests the same functionality exists.  But i don't find any help or indication on how to enable it.  Am i supposed to enter some template placeholders for this to work?  If so, what is the syntax for that?  And where is it documented?
Without this feature, i might as well start looking for new scan software.
    Thanks!

Hi there celsius, welcome to the forums!
I read through your post about wanting the scans on your Mac OS X, the same way they saved on your Windows OS.
On your Mac, the scans will not quite save the same way. To describe this, for example, you would need to be scanning a multiple page document as single files. As they save on your computer, you can select a name, such as "Scan" and as each scan comes in, it will save as "Scan1, Scan2, Scan3, etc". If you are not scanning a multiple page document, this method won't work.
I hope that clarifies your concern!

  • Scanning software for deskjet 3520e

I have a Deskjet 3520e All-In-One-Printer but there was no scanning software included with the CD.  My HP Photosmart 110 had the HP Solutions software that I always used.  Is there any way to use that same software on my Deskjet (and if so, how do I set it up) or is there other software compatible with the Deskjet I can use?

Hello @tarheel1st   , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are experiencing scanning issues.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit. With this information we can provide you with accurate information.

  • Compatible organizer software

    Hi,
I have just upgraded my PC from Win XP to Win 7 and am looking for a compatible organizer software for my Curve 8520. In the past I have used Outlook but wonder if there are other applications (possible free ones) which would do the job. I need address book and calendar. Thank you for your help

  • G4/OSX.39 INFURIATION- Software Restrictions!

I am denied Final Cut 4.x. I cannot upgrade Safari. I can NOT use Pro Tools 6.4 on OSX.4!
Software restrictions! I do not understand why I should not be able to install Pro Tools 6.4, which is not really that old, into OSX.4
Windows tried to do that to me... Denying the wise installer permission to install Sonar 2.x into XP, which works under under Windows 2000. The installer is blocked out! Because the direct x was version 8.something... And Windows XP had a higher DirectX version... Version 9.x
Well, All I did was install everything I wanted into Windows 2000 and upgraded it to XP- And then it worked, and installed the rest of the programs into XP. Later... cakewalk built a FIX on their website... which you ran first and it removed the software restriction.. Bully for them, that was a wise move.
Now the question here, is, can I do something like this with Pro Tools?
Because I basically refuse to throw away this Digi 001 that was perfectly good in 2003- That is another issue altogether, Digi ought to give software support for all their devices, regardless of how old, but they are doing the same thing... Trying to force everyone to use newer versions: Well I think the newer versions of Pro Tools ought to by default operate with the older Digi devices. The funny thing is... I got sick of the software restrictions so I pulled the Digi off of my G4 and shoved it into my AMD x64... Which crashes Pro Tools, but Sonar 5 detects the Digi 001 and I can use all my VST and DirectX plugins.
But... I really want to use the unit in thr mac, because I can use Pro Tools in that machine, and I can manupulate up to some 30 odd tracks, which I cannot do on the AMD PC.
I know some of this does not make sense to some people, but the point is, I am stuck with Leopard. Is that the proper name for OSX.3.9? But I am stuck with it cos of the Digi... And I because I am stuck, I can't gert very many new programs, they are all for OSX.5!
So, is there a way around these software/OS restrictions? I really have to have certain of these programs and the older versions are pretty scarce.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is not Apple's fault - Protools 6.x is not compatible with OS 10.4 as per Digidesign. It is up to the software developer to coordinate their program with the intended OS. Get mad at Digidesign, not Apple.
Sometimes, people like you who love their old software but have a newer OS will get together independently and write a patch to allow compatibility. Unfortunately, no one has done this for Protools 6, and I doubt they ever will, considering how large of a project that would be.
The way around the restriction is to upgrade to all new equipment and a new OS (10.5 Leopard), or only use old equipment with it's intended OS. You could also have multiple startup disks, one with the older OS and and one with the newer. But you must use the software with its compatible OS. There is no way around it...

  • Hp 8600 scan software issue

I installed the recent security update to OSX and also installed a firmware update a couple of weeks ago to the HP 8600 Officejet Pro all-in-ine printer, scanner, fax machine.  Now the scan software does not work.  Any suggestions?

Similar problem.  I reinstall the software and it works for a single job then everything else fails.  The HP diagnostic print form within the HP however.
    Ideas anyone?
Is there a way to contact HP other than for $100?  The web site community is not much help it seems.

  • HP Scan Software

I upgrade to Mac OS X Yosemite and lost the ability to scan to my MAC Pro.  I upgrade the driver and restored the scanning and printing capabilites but can only do so using Preview or the Printers & Scanners in the OS X System Preferences.
I am unable to locate a the compatible HP Scan Utility to replace old HP scanning software (compatible with OS X 10.6 and below).  My searches have not yielded HP downloads for this OS.  I can only locate drivers without the appropriate software.
Where can I download the latest version of HP Scan for my HP Officejet 8500A that will work on Yosemite OS?

    Hi @BIGALC
A full feature Yosemite driver is not available to download for your printer. As you have discovered, you can still scan, but not with HP software. There are now 3 methods of scanning preinstalled in the Mac OS. Alternatively, you could install 3rd party scan software.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?

@Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
@Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it.
Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size.
This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?
