OSX - DREAMWEAVER CS3 SLOW
Hi Forum,
Dreamweaver Cs3 have very slow performance on my new mac.
somebody know some
solution?
Thanks,
COMAC
I have the entire cs3 suite running on intel mac towers,
powerpc mac towers, iMacs, and mac laptops... all work perfect and
are very fast. If you are waiting 30 seconds to type something,
there is something wrong with your individual setup.
I would recommend disabling all of the dreamweaver extensions
to determine if a poorly written extension is causing an issue. And
yes, even one bad extension can cause dreamweaver to run like a dog
on mac or pc.
Second, I would make sure you are not using a remote server
location as a testing server, or using a remote location to work on
files, which will cause dreamweaver to communicate with the server
every time you attempt to do something and drastically slow
performance... on mac or pc.
No resolution.... remove the entire suite / qpplication from
your computer using the adobe installer software, restart computer.
Using disk utility, do a drive check to ensure you have no
catalogue issue, then repair permissions as well. Reinstall
software. once complete, run disk utility again. Then check for
updates. If you install any updates, run disk utility again. This
is way overboard, but you are ensuring you have no potential issues
for the next update.
no resolution.... then you need to run a hardware test to
ensure you don't have faulty RAM or other hardware. When restarting
your computer, hold down the D key on the keyboard. This should
launch the apple hardware check. You may also want to physically
remove and re seat your RAM to make sure everything is working
correctly.
Bottomline, dreamweaver runs very well on OSX. If you're not
experiencing that, then you need to determine what is wrong on your
computer, your settings, your installation.

Dreamweaver CS3 Slows/Crashes On Certain Files
I'm working on redesigning a website for a client of mine, but for whatever reason, whenever I open the files (HTML, CSS, etc.), Dreamweaver CS3 slows drastically.
If I try to preview the files, if I change the CSS information, if I save them, (the basics) the program slows, and gives a "Not Responding" message. Thankfully, it doesn't crash, but I need to give it upwards of two minutes each time.
This doesn't happen with other websites or projects I've worked or am working on. Any idea on what could be causing this?
My OS is Vista (I know, I know,) and my computer is older by healthy.
I'm just looking for educated guesses, or suggestions on what I might possibly be able to do to test fix it.
Thanks!I've seen this happen with CSS Templates designed in Artisteer. The complex CSS code drives DW bonkers. In my case, DW kept freezing while CSS was enabled.
You might try disabling CSS styles. View > Style Rendering > untick Display Styles.

Dreamweaver CS3 slow running one possible fix
Hi Guys
I have seen several threads relating to Dreamweaver CS3
running slow - some about Managing Sites. I was having the same
trouble and when clicking on a site it took over 30 seconds to
bring the Edit Box up.
I have been running Windows Defender and there is no settings
adjustment in that at all. So I decided to take it off - et voila!
Sites take exactly 1 second to appear, and MY problem at
least appears to be fixed. I just thout I would pass this on in
case anyone else is having the same problem. If you are, disable
your firewall and test DW without it.
It is so easy to blame Adobe when other programs are causing
the problems.
Hope this helps others.
David RobertsAre you running a local firewall? Have you tried connecting
with this
turned off?
Also, please tell us how you have configured your remote site
definition.

Dreamweaver CS3 slow performance issue confusions & work arounds
Never mind...I found it.
Of course I have all the firewall, worm, scanning, phishing
filtering, full time protect, and everything else turned off when I
am working on a remote/testing site however I found the Symantec
antivirus email scan being enabled (doesn't it just interact with
my email program?) was getting in the way of DW9 ftp operations,
causing some lagging that was putting DW9 into an unstable mode
during and immediately after (10 seconds) ftp operations.
The CPU still spikes to 99% during ftp functions but DW9
works even though it's likely taxed to the max but when I turn off
email scan DW9 returned to a functioning state during ftp and
remote file view. Whatever it takes huh?
PS: email scanning only never effected DW8.02

What does doesn't work mean?
Once the user has logged in, can you output the MM_Username
session variable to the page (in particular the page that the log
in user behavior has set for a successful log in)? You can do that
by simply selecting it in the Bindings panel and dragging into the
design view then previewing the page (after you've logged in of
course).
Also to get better responses (and more folks looking at it),
you should probably post this in the Dreamweaver Application dev
group:

Dreamweaver CS3 slow startup on MAC
Dreamweaver takes 5-7 minutes to startup on my mac while on
the PC it is more like 5-7 seconds. Why the drastic difference? The
server it is opening has a lot of files, but why the speed
difference between the PC and the MAC?quote:

DW CS3 slows to crawl every few minutes
Every few minutes as I am using Dreamweaver CS3 (under Vista
SP1), the program becomes unresponsive and my processor maxes out
(the Task Manager shows DW as hogging the CPU). I wait for what
seems like minutes -- but is probably only a few seconds -- and I
get control again. It happens repeatedly but I have not timed the
intervals between them to see if it is a consistent time. It seems
as thought Dreamweaver is busy doing something but, for the life of
me, I don't know what as it happens regardless if I've made any
changes to files or not -- it happens if I just sit there and watch
it. Anyone else have this problem? GordThis problem has plagued me since CS3's release. I have three
different
workstations, two on XP Pro and another with Vista and it's
the same
regardless. If you google for "dreamweaver cs3 slow" you will
find lots of
hits, especially with Macs, however I don't have a mac. There
is a KB
document that tries to blame your antivirus for scanning all
the .js files
that Dreamweaver uses making it slow, however, excluding
those files from my
resident scanner never changes anything. Also, Dreamweaver 8
runs like a
champ and I continue to use that on each of my workstations.
I feel rather cheated since I was really wanting to
experiment with SPRY on
CS3, however, since CS3 is such a dog, I have never had the
chance. Now I'm
looking at alternative AJAX libraries and Aptana instead.
Also, they got my
agency's money already for 5 licenses of CS3, but I never
OK'd it for use by
the rest of the web team so everyone remains on version 8.0
for now and I'm
currently evaluating CF Eclipse as an alternative. The only
thing that was
holding me back before was I occasional use the GUI layout in
DW but Eclipse
3.4 has added that feature. I'd have stayed with DW if only
CS3 worked.

As you say, I assumed the 'syslogd' process had to do with system logs. I did check the console and couldn't find anything of particular interest in the logs.
I'll continue to monitor but if anyone has any further suggestions please post.
One thing that might also have an impact... my available drive space is now down to less than 5gb (runs anywhere between 1gb and 5gb free depending on what I'm running). I know this causes problems for Parallels as it keeps moaning at me, but would it cause any problems with OSX?
Thanks again,

Running Dreamweaver CS3 on an iMac 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo

Who uses Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OS X?
Howdy,
I'm curious to know how many of you here use Dreamweaver CS3
on the Mac? Not bothered bout you Windows users, I've used it on
there and it's fine (although bulky and slow).
I made the switch to mac a long while back, and coming from
Windows and HomeSite (oh how much I love homesite!!!) the natural
move was to go to Dreamweaver. So I bought a retail copy (along
with PhotoShop CS3) for quite a bit of cash, and I don't use CS3 as
its pretty damn awful on OSX!
By the way, I NEVER touch the WYSIWYG part of Dreamweaver
(wish I could delete all WYSIWYG stuff from it, as that what slows
it down I'm sure)
To name a few bugs (I'd like to know if you experience these
too):
1. It's very slow and bulky, I mean just moving the cursor to
a new line in code view is slow, just doesn't feel good. It
actually feels like its about to crash on me any minute! And I'm on
a 6GB 8 cOre 2.8GHz Mac Pro... so its not my Mac :)
2. I set my toolbars up to my own preference (i.e. I like to
have the "Standard" menu showing and the "Document" one not) then
suddenly out of the blue "Standard" has gone and the "Document" one
is there. Sometimes I boot up and all is good, open a document and
it disappears (along with the line numbers on the left), right
clicking says its still there but it isn't.
3. Certain folders on the left file view REFUSE to close! I
collapse them, open another folder up (uncollapse) and what do you
know, the other folder pops open again. Close and open dreamweaver
its open again... I've never manged to close this particular
folder, dreamweaver really likes it for some reason?
There are plenty more, but they are the main ones!
The unfortunate thing is I cannot find a good alternative on
OS X for syntax highlighting, the fact that HTML elements are
coloured differently is invaluable to me, and thats one of the main
things I love bout Dreamweaver (not to mention the global replace
feature that other IDE's don't include)?
Bring HomeSite to OS X is what I say :)
What is your experience of DW CS3 on OS X? Does it all work
correclty for you? Or are you annoyed by it too?

I plotted my escape from Microsoft for years before I finally
knew
enough about software and the technologies I was using and
had
sufficient money to make the leap. (I went for a top of the
line MacBook
Pro.)
On the negative side, I've learned that the Mac isn't a free
ride.
Upgrading to Leopard was a wrestling match, as was upgrading
to Adobe
Creative Suite (largely because certain sales people sold me
the wrong
upgrade package - twice). I'm also bothered by a number of
annoyances
that sometimes remind me of my Windows PC.
However, I'm working with a far greater variety of software
programs
than I ever had on my PC, and the annoyances seldom turn into
the minor
catastrophes that made life with M$ living Hell.
So far, Dreamweaver is working fine for me. The biggest
annoyance is the
fact that it likes to jump back and forth between "Spaces,"
though
Spaces remains my favorite Leopard feature.
I'm sorry you're having problems with yours - and I was
shocked to hear
that that Rosetta crap also applies to Dreamweaver. I'd never
heard of
Rosetta until I had some problems with my browsers. Enabling
Rosetta
fixed the problem, but, sheez - all that Rosetta business
sounds like
something that came straight from Bill Gates' living room. So
I'm not
sure if the problem ultimately rests with Adobe, Mac OS X or
both.
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the situation to
advise you.
However, if you live near a sizeable Apple store, schedule an
appointment with their "Mac Geniuses." I've gone in to see
them at 7
a.m. a couple times - free of charge - and they were a big
help.
If you're using Leopard, I assume you've already installed
the two
updates - 10.5.1 and 10.5.2. Ironically, the second update
appeared to
create one of the very problems it's supposed to eliminate.
(Whether or
not it's actually a problem is a matter of debate in the Mac
community;
it hasn't actually caused any problems for me.)
You might also try posting some questions on Apple's forums -
http://discussions.apple.com.
If nothing works, and you do go back to M$, I certainly
wouldn't hold it
against you. If Apple and/or Adobe don't have their act
together, then
you can't blame people for returning to a platform that
works. However,
I have much greater confidence in both Apple and Adobe to fix
their
problems in the long run than I do in Microsoft. Even if you
get
Dreamweaver to work on your PC, will your other software
programs work?
In summary, I've learned that there's no free ride in
computing. But I
still prefer my Mac to M$, and I don't believe I've heard as
many
complaints about Dreamweaver on a Mac as I have about Vista.
But do
whatever's best for you.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 2.33GHZ Core 2 Duo w/2GB RAM.
Websites are shared from a Windows XP machine using normal
built in file sharing.
In Dreamweaver CS3, opening a document takes a while. And
once it's open and everything looks good, I can click on an image
and count out 2 seconds before the image actually highlights. Click
on another image or in a table cell to type text, and it's another
two seconds.
This site website, copied to my own hard drive, responds as
fast as it should - near instant.
The website and images aren't large by any means, 43k with
HTML, images, and css. It seems weird that it'd be slower over the
network than locally. Once Dreamweaver has the document open and
everything loaded, just selecting different elements shouldn't take
a performance hit.
I didn't have this problem with Dreamweaver 8.
Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?
Thanks,

How do I get my Dreamweaver CS3 for mac to stop crashing
I have been using my CS3 programs for years now and just in the last two weeks, all of them have been crashing within seconds or moments of launch. I do not understand it. Dreamweaver is the most important one because I must update our company website with our Q1 2010 performance and our investors are already really asking why the info is not on the site.
As soon as I launch dreamweaver CS3, it crashes and says the message at the bottom of this post. It has done it 20+ times today. I run Mac OS X 10.6.3 and have done all of the software updates from Apple as of 30 minutes ago. I have closed all programs, restarted. I just don't understand it. Please help as soon as you can.
Thanks so much,
Scott

Because it is so recent and you say you ran the updates recently I am wondering whether something in the latest 10.6.3 update affected the CS3 suite. You can try repairing system permissions from the install disc and trashing the permissions file (look in your user library->Preferences folder and it is the .plist file with Dreamweaver in the name).
Outside of that my fear is that you would have to run the CS3 Clean Script http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html and then re-install. Although that would clear all remnants from your system. Someone had posted not too long ago the location where the site definitions are stored. I will see if I can find that for a worst case scenario or maybe someone else can shed some light on finding that information quicker. -
Errors when trying to INSERT Dreamweaver CS3 ASP scripts into MySql
Greetings everyone,
I am hoping that someone can shed some light on an issue I have not been able to solve in the last few days. I have a website that I had built using Ultradev, then MX then CS3, using the default ASP scripts in dreamweaver and an odbc connection to an Access Database. Everything had been working fine for the last couple of years until recently where more people were visiting my site which resulted in the slowness because i was using access. I decided to move to a MySql database and that is when I ran into issues. I was able to solve most everything accept for one issue I am having. I was hoping it would be an easy transition by changing the ODBC connections but it has not been that easy. Any page I have with an INSERT command using the default Dreamweaver CS3 ASP script results in an error. Now I can query and delete and search with no problem...it is just the INSERT that is giving me issues. Here is just a general insertion script that CS3 does by default....
<%

If (Not MM_abortEdit) Then
' execute the insert

Set MM_editCmd = Server.CreateObject ("ADODB.Command")
MM_editCmd.ActiveConnection = MM_adsdata_STRING
MM_editCmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO commenthot (yeshot, userhot) VALUES (?, ?)"
MM_editCmd.Prepared = true
MM_editCmd.Parameters.Append MM_editCmd.CreateParameter("param1", 202, 2, 3, Request.Form("yeshotf")) ' adVarWChar
MM_editCmd.Parameters.Append MM_editCmd.CreateParameter("param2", 202, 3, 30, Request.Form("useridf")) ' adVarWChar
MM_editCmd.Execute
MM_editCmd.ActiveConnection.Close
End If
End If
%>
When I click to submit...the error i run into is...

....any idea what to modify to make it insert the corect data? Has anyone experienced this? If I can get this fixed with just this page I can probablly fix the other pages that have teh same issue. Is there a special setting on the MySql that I should know about to allow data to be inserted? Any help would GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you!Thanks for your reply!
When it was in Access...the datatype was Text. I used a 3rd party software to convert Assess directly to my hosting MySql server. When I logged in to see the table in MySql, it is set to Varchar(3) for yeshot and Varchar(30) for userhot. There is also an extra field I used for the KEY called commentID which is set to int(11) and it is autonumbered. Under the Collation i have utf8_general_ci set on the yeshot and userhot field. Null is No on both and the Default is set to None and all 3 fields.
I have a form I am collecting that data from which is:
<% If (langname.Fields.Item("langname").Value)="FR" Then
response.write("OUI!")
else
response.write("YES!")
End if %>
<input name="yeshotf" type="radio" id="yeshotf" value="1" checked>
<span class="style10">
<input name="submit" type="submit" id="submit" value="VOTE!">
</span> -
<input name="yeshotf" type="radio" id="yeshotf" value="2">
<% If (langname.Fields.Item("langname").Value)="FR" Then
response.write("NON!")
else
response.write("NO!")
End if %>
<input name="useridf" type="hidden" id="useridf" value="<%=(hotornot.Fields.Item("membername").Value)%>">
<input type="hidden" name="MM_insert" value="form1">
<input type="hidden" name="hdwfail" id="hdwfail" value="sexyoupasvote.asp?langname=<%=(langname.Fields.Item("langname").Value)%>&membernam e=<%=(hotornot.Fields.Item("membername").Value)%>&hdwmsg=invalid">
</form>
....the form has 2 radio button and 1 hidden field where I collect the username. The radio value should either be a 1 or a 2 depending on the selection by the user. I also have a captha on the form but that does not seem the cause any problem since I am not collecting any data from it. Does this help? I left the yeshot field as Text but I can change that to Numeric data... again thanks for your assistance in helping me try to figure this out.

Disappearing palettes in Dreamweaver CS3
After launching Dreamweaver CS3 on my MacBook Pro in Mac OSX
10.4.9, I discovered that my insert bar, properties palette and
many of the other palettes had become transparent with only their
title bars visible. Clicking inside the invisibale areas simply
brought the desktop or whatever was visible underneath to the
front. I searched for every forum and Google search with no luck.
If anyone else is experiencing this, I found the solution and offer
it here.
There is a conflict with Unsanity's ShapeShifter interface
customization program. When ShapeShifter is enabled, it will cause
palettes in Dreamweaver CS3 on an Intel Mac to become transparent.
To resolve this, go the System Preferences window and click on
ShapeShifter. Click on the Exclude List tab, click the Add button
and select the Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 application icon and click
Add.
Relaunch Dreamweaver and everything should be back to normal,
except that the Dreamweaver interface will return to the original
Aqua scheme.
Apparently, this happens only in Dreamweaver CS3 and no other
Creative Suite apps seem to be affected. There's another fix that saves the cosmetics at the cost of a
little speed. Make sure Dreamweaver is closed. Select the
Dreamweaver CS3 application, then Get Info. Check the box to run
the program under Rosetta. Close Get Info. When you relaunch
Dreamweaver (assuming you haven't added it to Shapeshifter's
exclude list), it will open with the palettes showing properly and
with the Shapeshifter theme applied. -
CMD+ shortcuts not working in Dreamweaver CS3
I'm have a very strange issue with CMD+ keyboard shortcuts
not working in Dreamweaver CS3 on OSX 10.5. These actions are
working from the menus (i.e., copy, cut, paste, etc.). CMD+
shortcuts work in other CS3 apps. I've searched this forum and
googled up and down and found some references to issues like this
with Dreamweaver 8, but nothing for CS3.
Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm completely stumped.
LawrenceMy concern wasn't with the navbar, but thanks for the headsup.
The problem is that the link in the upper left hand corner, Suzie's Story, is a rollover image but it does not reveal the other image when the cursor goes over it.

<div align="center"><a href="http://www.google.com" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('suzie','','Images/Suzie's Story Tab_light.jpg',1)"><img src="Images/Suzie's Story Tab_black.jpg" alt="suzie" name="suzie" width="75" height="45" border="0" id="suzie" /></a></div>

Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .
Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .
I do design for print and every year more and more customers have asked me if I would design their web site after I have designed their brochures and other collateral. For the last nine years I have never found the time to learn web production. I purchased Adobe PageMill and then upgraded to Adobe GoLive 5 but I have never found the time to learn these programs. But lately, requests for web design have persisted. I downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 but it is too slow on my 1.25 GHz MDD Dual G4, running Mac OS 10.4.11.
So I purchased the Dreamweaver CS3 upgrade, which was still available from Officemax.com. I also purchased "Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual" by David McFarland. I'll be going through the tutorials on weekends trying to become functional with Dreamweaver.
I'll be using it in WYSIWYG mode and not as a HTML coder.I would have been happy to make DWCS4 my first step up to Dreamweaver but with it not officially supported on G4 Macs and all the menus at the top running way too slow, I needed to stick with what is officially supported for the G4 by Adobe, Dreamweaver CS3.
It is possible that future updates of DWCS4 will be more optimized and do OK on my G4. It is also possible that running my outdated version of Font Reserve 3.1.4, under Mac OS 10.4.11, is slowing down the menus on DWCS4 on my machine even Acrobat 7 Pro gives me slow menus with my current set up.
InDesign CS3 is fast enough on my system and IDCS4 runs just as fast as IDCS3 on my Dual MDD G4.
I don't think I will be getting an Intel-Mac desktop and laptop until 18 months from now.
