On some 12-inch PowerBooks, this may happen if your AirPort Extreme card is slightly out of place and you touch the case in the wrong area. Reseating the card often fixes this issue; this problem was previously discussed in another thread which archived off long ago.

  • Syncing to iPhone 3GS - Freezes when Photos are synced, after 1st sync

    Using iTunes 9.1.1.12 and iPhone 3GS 3.1.3.
When syncing, the sync freezes when Photos are included to be synced. It just hangs at the end of the sync process, and never completes.
If I don't include the Photos to be synced, it syncs fine.
If I then choose to re-sync the Photos and delete the folder: "iPod Photo Cache"... It re-syncs fine again (and places all photos on iPhone). But if I immediately sync again, without un-checking Photos to be synced, it hangs again at the end.
    Please help.

  • IPod freezes when trying to sync with iTunes 6.0.4(3)!

Is anyone else having this problem?? My iPod (touch wheel) was working just fine until I updated iTunes the other night. Now it freezes when I try to sync it with iTunes! I tried resetting, restoring, checked all the updates, *****-slapping the iPod, everything. I see that others might be having the same problem -- is there a solution? Help!
    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Update:
Any new news on this issue from anyone else?
I left my iPod plugged into my PowerBook over night and when I woke it was functional. However, downloads from iTunes to the iPod take almost 3x's longer than they used to and there seems to be more errors than I've ever experienced (about 1 out of every 10 interfaces). Sometimes the error is that it can't write to the drive (iPod) and sometimes the error is that it can't mount the iPod. Also when the iPod is plugged in and displayed in iTunes, the "used" and "free" info is incorrect. I completely emptied my iPod and it says that I'm using -2.80 GB (impossible unless I've created a blackhole) and it says that I have 10.49 GB (capacity, under Get Info, is listed at 9.28 - which is were it's always been - it's a gen2 10GB iPod).
Has anyone tried to format there iPod? Is this possible without harming the drive?
Well, to sum it up my iPod is working but is having errors and bugs all over the place. If anyone has any new news I'd love to hear it.

  • Itunes freezing when trying to sync

Anyone run into itunes freezing when syncing and then an error message popping up saying "Cannot sync ipod. An unkown error occured." Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling itunes 9. And still same problem.

Same for a friend of mine who's at his wits end. Here's what he writes:
When I connect the iPhone to my USB outlet (I am running Windows XP), Photoshop Downloader launches immediately. After the photos are downloaded, I find that iTunes has completely frozen. It doesn't respond to any mouse clicks and I have to do control-alt-click to close it down. This happens whether iTunes was running before I connected the iPhone or not. I think the problem is the iPhone, since my iPod still syncs normally with iTunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I have turned the computer on and off. I have reset all settings on the iPhone. I have in fact tried every suggestion on the Apple site.

  • BB for Mac freezing when trying to sync itunes to Pearl 8230

    Hi all-
Have searched the forum to no success.  Just downloaded BB for Mac and so far so good, except for one issue.  The DM will freeze/crash when trying to sync one song or a whole playlist to my BB pearl.  I can select any playlist I want, (I've made some with various file types and sizes to see if it was a file format or size error), and still had no success.  I've ensured my media card support is on, mass storage mode is on, unencrypted,  and auto enable mass storage mode when connected is on, room on the media card, and recognized by my device.  The DM recognizes my media card, and correctly identifies the amount of free space on it, allows me to select my playlist(s) and when I click 'sync', the drop down window indicates  "the following items are being synchronized" and "music", but the progress bar and the sync circle don't move.  I've left it in this state for 4 hours to return to find out nothing has changed.  I have to force quit the DM at that point.
My contacts and calendars sync fine, just no love when it comes to the music.
I have a BB pearl 8230 (4.6.1.284) on the Telus network, using an iMac running snow leopard 10.6.1, running iTunes 9.01(9)
Am I missing something?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you running the Mac in 64bit mode, if so that is a known issue. Work around appears to be switch Mac to 32 bit sync and then return to 64bit till next sync or BB RIM fix is out.

  • Ipod sync freezes when trying to sync from an external drive

I just bought a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive (model # ST305004DA1E1-RK)because I was running out of space on my desktop. I have itunes set up on my desktop hard drive and my library set up on my external and the itunes works fine when listening and/or orgainizing my music, but when I plug in my ipod while the external is pluggged in I get a 'USB Device Not Recognized' warning. But if I unplug the external and re-plug in the ipod, itunes will recognize it. But if I re-plug in the hard drive and try to sync the ipod, it freezes up. I have tried to run the itunes software directly from the external drive, but I get the same 'USB Device Not Recognized' warning when I plug in the ipod while the external is still plugged in. Any thoughts?

As a test, try removing all USB devices except a standard keyboard and mouse, including any USB hub. Connect the hard drive and iPod directly to the computer. See if that works.
If it works, try to figure out which USB device makes it NOT work, treating any USB hub as a device.
If it still does not work, try using the Restore button in iTunes to see of that helps. This will erase the iPod and restore it to original settings.

  • ITunes freezing when trying to sync iPhone 5.

    I'm at my tethers end.
Last month I had my iPhone replaced at an Apple store, as the battery on my old phone was draining unusually fast (100% to 0% in 2 hours on standby with nothing open). This replaced iPhone has been slightly tempermental, but I have tried to ignore these little glitches (brightness jumping randomly from 100% to the lowest setting for no reason etc (it's not on auto).
The biggest problem I'm having it trying to sync my phone with iTunes. It will not sync my music, often freezing at particular songs, meaning I would have to restart my entire computer for it to work again. Deleting these songs would work for it to continue syncing, but no sooner would it find another song it did not like, which would play on any other media software and had no problems whatsoever with my old phone. It then decided to start freezing on 'downloading safari safe data', so I took steps for it to stop doing that (advanced on safari etc). Now it keeps freezing on step 5 of 5; waiting for changes to be applied. Frankly I'm absolutely SICK of this, as I'd like to get some music on my phone at some time, and now I can't even make any alterations to my phone.
    I've tried..
*Restoring my iPhone ( which went awfully because my backup dissapeared, meaning I had to restore with a months old backup. I triple checked that my backup had worked but when it came to needing it *poof*.
    * Checking Winsock providers.
    * Converting back to older versions of iTunes.
    * Restarting my computer a million and one times.
    * Deleting 'problem' songs, but now I can't even reach that stage of syncing.
PLEASE HELP. I'm so frustrated with this. I've always been a loyal customer to Apple but frankly I get sick of always having problems. There's not been one apple phone which has not stopped working within warranty and needed a replacement. When we're paying this much for a phone we expect it to actually WORK.

This problem is quite common, but I have not been able to figure out what causes it. My best bet is that it's a USB issue, and I have found a workaround that makes synchronising possible when all else fails. For the record, I have tried all of the potential solutions on these forums without lasting success. Here's what worked for me.
    (Windows 7 32bit, iPhone 4S, iTunes 10.6.1.7)
First of all, make sure you have a good wi-fi signal in the region of the PC you are syncing with. Then -
    1) Start iTunes.
    2) Connect phone via USB.
    3) Left click on phone in iTunes.
    4) On the Summary page check "Sync with this phone over Wi Fi"
    5) On the phone go to Settings>General>iTunes wi-fi sync
    6) Tap on Sync now.
The phone should sync via wi-fi, even though it is connected via USB. It didn't seem any slower to me than syncing via the cable, and more importantly it worked, and the backup went smoothly. I've tried it several times now with no problems.
Also, if you have a lot of apps you need to synchronise or you are re-arranging the app windows using iTunes you can sync in the normal way from the PC if you do it immediately after the wi-fi sync, because iTunes does not run the backup again. It probably won't run two backups within a few minutes of one another.
It's all a bit of a fiddle, and Apple/MS needs to get a fix for it, but if this method works for you at least you have a good backup should you flush your phone down the toilet!
    Good luck!

  • Ipod freezes when trying to sync/sometimes reboots my computer?!?

I have a 20 gig ipod from 2004 (click-wheel with no color screen) that I have been trying to update my library on. Every time it tries to sync, it freezes and I have to plug it into the power supply in order to restart it. It also won't take any new songs if I try to add them manually. I tried restoring factory settings and updating my ipod software and that didn't help. I tried using the USB unsuccessfully and tried the firewire only to have that freeze the ipod and completely reboot my computer at the same time?! If anyone knows what is going on, I'd greatly appreciate any advice. I have taken great care of my ipod and would be surprised if it was something I had done to damage the unit.
    thanks MUCH in advance!
ps. my nano syncs and adds songs manually just fine with the same computer...

  • Computer freezes when trying to sync ipod touch

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 64 bit and I'm not sure if I had this problem. I have the 64 bit version of itunes downloaded and I got a new 32gb ipod touch for christmas today. I plugged it in and set it all up and when it goes to sync, it shows that it gets to the 5th song out of like 500? songs I have and my whole computer freezes. I have my itunes setup so that it gets my songs from my external hard drive. I don't know if that would be a problem by trying to send my songs from my hard drive to my computer and then to my ipod. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

i am having some success with my touch now by right clicking on the itunes icon and selecting, troubleshoot compatibility, troubleshoot program, program worked on earlier versions, then select, win vista service pack2. this is probably not a permenant fix but for the time being it seems to work. hope you have some joy with your setup. • Ipod classic freezes when trying to sync photos

    Hi
My Ipod classic has started to freeze every time I try to sync with my PC when adding new photos.
This is something I have done many times before without any problems but as of yesterday, every time I try it just stops dead.
As I type this message, my ipod screen just says connected and the itunes screen says syncing ipod do not disconnect but it's been like this for 2 hours now with nothing to show for it.
Syncing of music and videos works fine I hasten to add.
Not sure if it's relevant but yesterday I updated itunes to 7.7.1.11
Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved
    Mark

Hello everyone. I'm new to Apple forums and don't know how to start a new thread! My problem is this: All my photos are on a Seagate External Hard Drive (there are about 3,500 of them) and I want to transfer them to my iPod. I've told iTunes where to find the photos on the EHD, but it just won't load them. I've got the Do not Disconnect message up, and have done for several hours - but no photos. I then tried loading a few hundred photos that I happened to have on the C drive, and that went fine and they loaded no problem. Why can't it load the ones on the EHD? I did it once before and it was fine, so I'm pretty certain I'm not being thick!
Any advice gratefully received. I don't really want to put all my pics back on the C drive as I haven't got that much room left - hence the need for the EHD!
    Thanks in advance...

  • 4G Touch freezes when attempting to sync music.

When I attempt to synce music I then get the message "iTunes could not copy "Song Title" to the iPod "Dominic's iPod" because the file could not be written"  The symbol to the left of the message is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside.  After closing the error window, iTunes says "Syncing Dominic's iPod" Finishing sync, with the moving candy cane stripe.  Eventually that freezes too, then the message and strip go away and a final error window pops up. "The iPod "Dominic's iPod" could not be synced.  The device timed out."
I have already tried restoring the iPod to it's original settings and have redownloaded iTunes.
I tried with the Windows Task Manager open.  The status of iTunes goes fron "running" to "Not Responding" when the error message appears.  It goes bak to "running" after clicking OK on the "iTunes could not copy..." error window.  Then goes back to "not responding" when the candy cane stripes freezes.  And finally back to "running" then the device times out.
I am runnings Win 7 Pro 64 bit, iPod 4G (iOS 5.1.1), iTunes (10.6.3.25).  The music files are Apple Losless Audio File (m4a) and reside on a Synology DS211j NAS.  No settings on the home network have changed since my last succesful sync almost 3 weks ago.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hit the Genius Bar this morning.  The iPod is fine.  The tech did a total reload of the firmware (about 10 minutes).  Then he told me to remove iTunes from the computer and reinstall.  He then told me if that didn't work to either call for support, or bring the PC and iPod in so they could look at them together.  I guess I'll be calling in when I have another day off and the kids are back in school after Labor Day.  The funny thing is, albums totally sync until I get the "can not write file" error.  Every album after that (alphabetial by artist) only syncs the first song with all others greyed out.

  • Itunes 10.2.2 Freezes when trying to Sync

After upgrading to ITunes 10.2.2.14 I can no longer Sync myIPOD Touch.  I have a third generationIPOD Touch 60GB.  ITunes recognizes my IPOD, but when it gets to Step 4 of 4 it freezes.  I had to restore the IPOD (on a differentcomputer) and in doing so I have the most up to date IPOD software as well.  I have tried multiple USB ports, multipleIPOD cables (all Apple brand).  I deactivated my wireless card, unplugged the LAN cable, unplugged all other USB devices and turned off my anti-virus software, nothing is working.
Additional details are that I use a PC with Windows XP withall the updated service packs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same EXACT problems you are.  I have the 32g itouch and it just freezes on the last step of "syncing".  I also have an XP computer (third service pack installed) and everything had been running fine until just about a month or two ago.  I had to restore my itouch on my sisters computer 2X already (not mine, it doesnt work).  All my apps were loaded fine, then it couldnt load my music.  I restored my itouch again, then on the initial setup I unchecked to sync music and apps.   On the last step of  "syncing", it just freezes. Tried the different USB ports, making sure all things are up to date, turning off the firewall etc. but nothing works.  I would hate to buy a new itouch and have the same problem happen to me again.  Hopefully somebody has a solution.  Just a FYI, my 8g ipod still has NO problem syncing my new music I purchased recently...

  • IPod 80gb gets and error and/or freezes when trying to sync

When i try to sync my iPod to my computer, it will go smoothly until about 2-10 gigs of music is on the device, then i will either bet an error message, or itunes will freeze, losing the majority of the music that was just loaded.
