OSX FTP Support generally bad??

Hello,
I have been using the finder to connect to FTP server to quickly paste some files to my server.. And it does not seem to support write functions for FTP??
Am I missing something??
I can make and edit HD video clips but I can't write to a ftp site out of the box without using the command shell??

I find the argument that users might do something stupid with FTP or have expectations to be a little ridiculous I can't believe that is the reason..
It is only FTP it not like rocket science. It's worked just fine in windows native client for years.
If its such a big deal there should be a preference that can be set in the finder or something to allow write access.

  • Why is the support so bad and expensive?

Putting in my serial number of a product that is now useless tells me I'm not covered by the support so I have to pay £25 to have someone call me.
When I put in all my details so I can phone Apple myself I then get given a premium rate number to phone and when I get through I start getting asked the same questiuons I answered online ( to get my case number ) so the call is going to end up costing more than it should. The case number is supposed to make the call quicker.
Why is help so expensive here?
Why can't I just email support?

John Galt, the poster already did that as he said in this discussion. He said:
I'm sure with the millions of dollars Apple make every day they can pay staff for support. Instead of that they create a forum where people can do their work for them for free.
I've posted details about my problem herehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/25581520#25581520

  • End user FTP support

I'd like to be able to upload documents I've written and want to distribute for free (later for pay) on a Muse site. This requires FTP support. Does Muse provide that?

    Hello,
You can use File-->Add files for upload in Muse. The files will get added to the assets panel.
So, you can use the link /assets/name_of_doc to create a link to the document in your site.

  • General BADi question:Call BADi in background job/batch input. Possible?

    Hi out there,
i'm using thoe following BADi: /SAPSLL/CTRL_SD0C_R3 (Global Trade Service).
But also, this question is a general question.
If we are calling on screen the transaction VF01, the BADi is called correctly.
But unfortunately it seemes that the BADi is NOT called (im not really sure, cause i can't debug the background task) when we are calling a batch input sequence wth f.e. form bdc_transaction VF01 nothing happens.
Maybe BADi cannot be called in a background task? If it's possible, how could it be monitored. Thare isw no spool entry or anything like that!
    Any answer can help.
    Thank you in advance!
    Regards,

    Hi,
generally BADIs are called in background mode. You can use the following trick to debug your BADI. You just need to create an infinite loop in your BADI implementation. Something like this.
    DATA: l_a TYPE c.
    WHILE l_a IS INITIAL.
    ENDWHILE.
Obviously when your BADI is called in background mode then program will get into infinite loop. You can easily connect and debug running programs from transaction SM50. You need to select your background process and go to Program/Session -> Program -> Debugging. You will jump directly into your BADI methos with infinite loop. Then you will just set value to l_a and you will start debugging your BADI. If you can not find any process then your BADI is not called in background mode.
    Cheers

i am trying to run a CDrom on my MAC and I get the following message: bdf.classic or bdf.osx not supported anymore.  How can I fix this and run my CDrom?

I don't think you can fix it. Those messages imply the programs on the CD are older ones for PowerPC Mac (discontinued in early 2006) and does not have the code a current Intel-based Mac requires.

  • Letting Clients grab files via OSX FTP

I would like clients to be able to grab files on my server via the built in OSX FTP so they down't have to have outside Client/FTP software (Fetch etc.)
The problem I have is my server needs @ in the Name / Password box. I guess OSX doesn't allow this?
    Any suggestions or workarounds?
    Thank you.

    >The problem I have is my server needs @ in the Name / Password box. I guess OSX doesn't allow this?
What do you mean by 'OSX doesn't allow this'?
If you're saying your password includes the @ sign, you can avoid that by not entering a password in the 'Connect to Server' dialog (which you should do anyway to avoid over-the-shoulder password theft). In this case the Finder will prompt you for login information using a secure password dialog.

  • Logic 9, SSDs, new MBPs and OSX TRIM support

Gang, my 2006 17" MBP is on its last leg, so the rumored MBP refresh is timely for me. The rumored hardware refresh has the MBPs sporting the new intel sandy bridge architecture along with a 16GB SSD boot for OSX. There's also a rumor of the option of upgrading the Superdrive to a secondary SSD.
This would've been a 50/50 coin toss a year ago as I wasn't doing audio editing/songwriting. Now, researching this whole SSD write fatigue issue is driving me nuts.
Some say that write fatigue is very real. Some say the effect is negligible in newer drives and it's getting better every few months with new hardware. Some say the write fatigue issue is moot since the poerformance is still (mostly) better than that of a HDD. Others point to it not being an issue with Win 7 and Linux due to TRIM, but it is still a bugaboo on OS X due to lack of TRIM support.
    So, I'm confused.
This really wouldn't be an issue if I was running an 8 core Mac tower with 10/15k rpm drives. Since I'm updating my laptop to another laptop as my only production platform, I really want to have the best portable package I can have performance-wise (setting aside the issue of ditching the ODD for a moment).
If the rumors are true, I could boot from the dedicated SSD, have my apps, VSTs and samples on the secondary SSD, and do all my writes/reads to the HDD. Is this a logical file layout?
For those that use a SSD, what has your experience been with it in audio production? Are you SSD-only, or in a mixed SSD/HDD environment?
This is all academic really, because the first thing I'm targeting in a new MBP is 8GB of ram. My current setup is only 3GB with Logic and a major VST like Omnisphere or Trilian. I can squeak by with freezing tracks, etc. If getting opting for the SSD means losing ram, then I'm definitely passing on the upgrade.
    Thanks for any input!

    Mixed SSD/HD here.
I didn't really see much value in having Logic (and other apps) boot any faster since I don't mind a) boot times as they are, and b) I actually appreciate some of those times when I can't get straight to it. Sometimes slow is good, it allows the imagination free reign.
I use the SSD for all samples, etc. EG - I use Omnisphere a lot and working off a hard drive is fairly mind numbing when clicking through sounds. It's now fast enough that it begins to feel like an old school synth in terms of patch changing. I'm happy.
This way is also 'write once, read many' so I get the best of SSD tech meantime.
Irritatingly expensive for storage, of course.

  • Why OSX Lion supports Lao, Khmer, Myanmar, but not Thai???

Quoted from the Apple's OSX Lion - over 250 new features - web,
    " Expanded language support
Twenty new font families for document and web display of text provide support for the most common languages in the Indian subcontinent, including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Sinhala and Telugu. Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Urdu and Tamil have been expanded. And three new font families support Lao, Khmer and Myanmar. "
Lao, Khmer, and Myanmar, but not Thai??  Come on, seriously, you guys in Cupertino...  No offense but Macs are sold more in Bangkok alone than those three countries combined !  not to mention iPhones, iPads, and lots of apps from App Store!  Normally we've been getting along with English-based version, but now don't cram those three while leaving out Thai.  Please don't let everyone here start thinking about discrimination agains one nation (it's pretty clear if you look on the map).  Please, seriously consider adding another one, even as a patch.
    Thanks.

    Chatchalee wrote:
Thai support so far has limited extents; namely word-wrap particularly in Pages, grammatically checking, etc.
I don't remember seeing any complaints about Thai word breaking in these forums before.  OS X does include a special dictionary to try to regulate that.  See this note:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1180
I suggest you send Apple feedback with details about improvements you would like to see in that:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Does Office for Mac have a word-breaking dictionary for Thai?  My impression is No.  I think it is mainly for that reason that Office for Mac does not even include Thai on the list of input languages it officially supports, which is listed in the Help for that app.

  • Will EMC storage work fine now that OSx Lion supports ALUA?

We are on the verge of purchasing a whole new Xsan and EMC storage is under consideration. Does anyone have any experience with EMC and XSAN?
With Apple supporting ALUA multipathing using EMC seems possible.
Here is a quote from the Xsan 2.3 manual: "Use only Apple-qualified RAID systems or ALUA-compliant RAID systems for storage devices."

I have a similar problem, except I can't edit contacts or appointments on any of my three OSX devices, but I can edit them on my iOS7 devices.
Of course, now I'm on Mavericks and have all of the latest updates.

  • Ftp support in Safari?

When trying to link to an FTP site, Safari does not seem to work. But Firefox works just fine.
Am I missing a plug-in, or does Safari simply not support FTP access?

  • Urdu Support: Does OSX Lion support Finder/Mail/System Menus in Urdu?

    Hello,
I have been trying to customize OSX Lion for a while, and while I find that it supports Urdu natively, there are a few hiccups:
I have set my System language to Urdu (Using the Languages & Text option in System Prefs)
I have set my Keyboard layout to Arabic (as the keyboard supports Arabic better, and they're closely related in script)
However, I have noticed that the System menus, Finder, Mail, etc are all still in English. Urdu is set as the only language, and English and other languages have all been disabled from System Prefs, and yet, the menus are all displayed in English only.
However, if I set Arabic as the first language, then all menus and even applications (an their respective menus) display in Arabic. I am beginning to believe that OSX Lion only partly supports Urdu. Is this true?

    HasnainSaleem wrote:

Yes, there is not yet any Urdu localization of the OS menus and dialogues.  Those languages for which this exists are listed directly in the published specs:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Since Lion does provide a keyboard for Urdu, I would be interested in the details about why you prefer to use the Arabic one instead.
To ask Apple to add Urdu OS localization, go here:

Are there any plans to support the Blackberry Curve 8530 under OSX Lion (ver 10.7)?
The current version of Verizon Access Manager does not work with this version of the OS.  It would be nice to know if/when Verizon and/or Smith Micro plans to catch up with Apple.  Heck, the dev tools have been out there for a year.
