OSX gone, 9.2 boots, can't open CD to reinstall OSX

I've got a G4 Power Mac that comes with the CD drive that can only open from the monitor. Brilliant! I dragged the computer out of storage (worked fine going in) and hooked up the special monitor (more brilliance) and got a question mark. So after a few restarts, connected it via firewire to my Powerbook as a slave. Ran Disk Utilitiy and it said it was fine. It wasn't. Hooked up again and ran DiskWarrior and it bombed on the replace function. Again and again. Started it up separately and it went to OS9.2 with no way, that I could see, to open the CD drive to install OSX again.
How do you get the CD drive to open on this thing? I've been a Mac-only person since 1985 and have never been so frustrated. Did Bill Gates design this Mac?!

Removing disks:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88215
When you stored the G4, did you remove the PRAM battery from the logic board? Leaving it installed means the battery drains to zero in a few weeks and can cause boot problems. One person in another forum found that a dead PRAM battery leaked during storage and the "juice" ate through parts of the logic board. Dead Mac.
Always remove the battery when storing an unpowered Mac for an extended period.

Recently when I install apps, the icon does not appear on the menu screen, also, it shows that it is downloading at the app store and when complete, I can not open it or reinstall it. Has happened on the last 4 free apps. Help Please

Reset your iPad. Press and hold both the power and home buttons for 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till you iPad starts on it's own. Now try and download an app.

  • I have PSD cc, had cs6 ex I did update, can't open ANY files,  reinstalled, same..dead programs

I work in PSD cs6 ex constantly,  recently i updated to cc. Today I can't open any file, Recent, old, make a new, open from library etc,  NOTHING will open, i request a file,  programs act like they are deaf. They arent locked up, just dont open or create files.  Everything on my com is updated. I uninstalled and reinstalled and same. Also I no longer can install cs6 just CC.

Even the term "I request a file" is ambiguous.
Please provide more detailed information.  Ideally, show some screen grabs showing what you are seeing, and identify just what isn't working.
Best advice, based on no specific information provided, is to uninstall using the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool / process to really get everything cleaned up, then reinstall.

  • Can't open account after reinstalling osx

my osx crashed and would not go past a blue screen after logging in. i then reinstalled osx and archived the previous version. i was then able to login to one of my accounts but the one that i was using when the system crashed (my primary acount with all my files in the home folder) still has the same problem as mentioned above. when i try to open the home folder of the that account through the working one it does not let me. any tips or ideas how to get to all my files.
    thanks
it's my first mac and a bit clueless as what to do

If the account you can log into is an admin user account, then follow the steps in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1061.html to delete the bad account, saving the data. Then, open up the Deleted Users folder and copy whatever stuff you want to the current account, eventually deleting it. If the current account isn't an admin user account, go to Accounts and create a new admin user account. Then, follow the above steps.

  • I attempted to install an update to my iTunes and got a "C   Runtime Error" message. Now when I attempt to open iTunes I get a pop up that says to reinstall iTunes. But I can't open iTunes to reinstall it. How can I reinstall iTunes?

I received notification of ANOTHER iTunes update being available, so I attempted to install the update on my Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista. During the update process, two pop-up announced that I had a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" Runtime Error, R6034 and another pop-up that states "iTunes" iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. However, I cannot open iTunes. I get the same pop-up telling me to reinstall iTunes.
I had many songs in my iTunes library that came from sources other than iTunes, mostly my own CDs. Plus, I have nearly $100 credit remaining in the iTunes store. I'm converned I will lose the songs and store credit if I reinstall iTunes. So my questions are:
    1. How can I reinstall iTunes?
    2. If I reinstall it, will I lose my store credit and non-iTunes songs?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Nothing should be lost... However... it is both Prudent and Recommended that a backup should have been created and maintained.

  • Can't open iTunes or reinstall because of corrupt file ituneslocalized.qtr

All of a sudden I am having issues with iTunes. I couldn't open up the program. I would get an error message while it was starting to load. It says "error writing to c:\ProgramFiles\iTunes\iTunesResources\nb.lproj\iTunesLocalized.qtr Verify that you have access to that directory." I do. I am in the admin trying to open it up, like always before. So I decided to uninstall and then try to reinstall. It did uninstall but now when I try to reinstall I get the same msg. I go to the folder containing the file and try to delete it. I get the error message "Cannot delete iTunesLocalized: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I tried renaming, moving, replacing it with the same file that I sent over from another computer, all of which still gives me the same error message. I tried using Unlocker and it does not find any unlocking handle for me to unlock so I can delete. I ran chkdsk and it seems to do nothing. I tried deleting the file in DOS and still doesn't work. I ran my antivirus (avast) in safemode and still nothing helped. Whats the deal with this file?????

This link tells you how to run a disk check.
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315265
It is best to do it from My Computer.
Right click on the c: drive and select properties>>Tools>>error checking>>Check now. Tick all the boxes. It start after you restart you computer and takes a while so do it when you don't need your computer.
On renaming, I was wondering about renaming something like:
    c:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesResources
    Rather than the iTunes folder.
But only if the scan doesn't work. It does sound like some kind of filing system corruption problem.

  • My ITunes has stopped working and now shows error6034 and Error7Windows,I  can't  open  it ,have reinstalled twice but no use, now  what?Thnx

I  think my ITunes  has  crashed- I  have  reinstalled  twice but still  get  same  error  message 6034 and Error7 Windows, was  told  it  might be library  files not ITunes  directly.Should use restore point, but I've never done that before  and is permanent...don't  want to make  matters worse or screw up everything else with restore button....It is restore point from Nov. Anyone have a solution for me?   Thnx  for your help.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Can't open boot device??? On sparc 7

    Hi
I'm new to Solaris, please be patient.
I got a ultra 1 machine and tried to upgrade the hard drive. I installed an IBM 4.55 GB sca drive. When I boot this message comes up.
Boot device /sbus/espdma/csp/sd@0,0:a File and args: -F cprbooter cprboot
Bad magic number in disk label
    Can't open disk label package
    Can't open boot device
I did probe-scsi command it says
    Unit 0 Disk TANDEM 4512-2 2626
Any help would be great. Is the hard drive not compatible with solaris? I tried a couple of other drives same result. Thanks in advance

You're trying to remove an old/small hard disc and you try to
install the new 4.5GB drive instead, is that right?
The boot-file property in the openboot prom is set to "...cprboot" because the system was suspended
(and not shutdown), before you've removed the hard disc. On power-up, the
system wants to resume from suspend state with the information saved
on the hard disc and tries to do that using the "cprboot" boot
program. (obviously this cannot work because the disc with the suspend
state data is gone). You can probably get rid of this error by
using the open boot prom commands printenv/setenv to check/correct
    the boot-file property.
The other problem is the "Bad magic number in disk label" error
message, but this is just a hint that the new disc contains no
valid disk label, so you cannot boot from the new disc, yet.
This is to be expected - because the disc contains no valid data.
I'd say that you should just place you solaris installation cd into
the cdrom drive and try a 'boot cdrom' at the open boot prompt and
install a fresh copy of solaris on the new drive. Then restore
your user files from a backup (or whatever) on the new drive.

  • I can't open App Store in my OSX Lion

Hi there, hope anyone can help
I can't open App Store in my OSX Lion. The icon somehow changed to some kind of plain paper.
Every time I open it, it comes to the dock, bouncing, but then gone and App Store is not open.
There is no notification window or something like that. I did not change anything, it just changes itself somehow.
    Anyone have similar experience?
    Hope someone can help me.
    Thank you so much

You need to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to restore OS X.
That will reinstall the App Store for you.

  • Can't open AppStore and Email app after installing the OSX Update 10.8.3

Hi there, after I installed the OSX 10.8.3 update I can't open my Email and App Store apps. This is the popup message that appears when i try to open those apps. I tried to reinstall the app but I can't open my App Store. I also downloaded and installed the OSX Update 10.8.3 and the 10.8.2 again from the download support page, but I couldn't solve my problem. Does anyone knows how can i fix it?

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • I can not open iTunes on imac . And My desktop freeze. OSX mavericks !

    <Personal Information Edited By Host>

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the affected app "unexpedtely quits", showing a window (sort of expanded dialog box) with the log history, wich form a complete report wich is said to be sent to Apple. Despite that this window has a "restart" button, I haven't been able to go any further from this point, as it repeats the process again and again, impeding me to use the affected app.
This has get to a critical point, as it is afecting apps like iTunes (especifically when I turn to the iTunes Store from within te app), MacApp Store, Software Updates (I can't update anything, given this problem) and many other apps, including Aperture 3, Fusion 4, integrated Dictionary and Wikipedia, as I've been able to verify.
As far as I'm concerned, it hasn't affected apps like Office, Vectorworks, Pixelmator, iDraw, Quick Note...
Can anybody help me on this matter?
    Thanks a lot, in advance...
    Marcus

Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.
