OSX Journaled-Can I use journal to return/restor settings to specified date

OK, so I've got my drive set to journaled mode. How to I make use of this.
Let's say for example, I wake up one morning and I'm told by my iPhoto that it can't find my iPhoto Library(it was there the night before)...Unstead of all this round about investigative work and two hours on the phone with Apple support and dozens of posts and replies in Apple Discussions, not to mention, untold hours and hours and hooouuuurrrrssss of searching my computer, draging...coping...rebuilding...ARRRGGGHHH!!!
Can't I simply "ask" my journaled drive to return/restore itself(settings and data) to it's original condition (based on giving it a specific time and/or date) as it had been the night before...before the evil computer gremlins plied their dasterdly deeds to my iMac while I slept!
Am I being nieve to imagine that the solution to so many and varied problems could actually be that simple...just go back in time?

You are confusing journaling with the future Leopard Time machine's feature.

It is locked to your sisters carrier.
She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service.

Well the newer TimeMachine model as stated in current Support pages isn't directly compatible on OS X 10.5 now, as noted in above link provided.
What OS X does your newer MacBook have running in it? (Not linux?)
With the current setup you have there may be a way -among other details in the support page- to do the migration of data from Mac, including a subnote on Time Machine, in a section below the main article with triangle by it, from links here:

In the support articles there are various troubleshooting and help items about the technology, some data back some time and whatever still stands would be there. Some archives are no longer current and say so.
Perhaps someoone still using older PPC Macs and Leopard 10.5, will say how to backup into a G4 PowerBook, from a Time Machine.
Unless the TimeMachine backup from the older PPC G4 PowerBook is used in the migration process of transferring personal account files from there to a new MacBook running (?) OS X. This probably could be done. You may be able to access older libraries, such as iPhoto, iTunes, etc and import them from the archive, to a newer Intel-based MacBook.
Sorry for any confusion.

Can I use the value returned from a Text Function in another Formula?

I'm writing a report in Hyperion System 9 BI + Financial Reporting Studio version 9.2. I have 2 grids in my report.
Grid1 Column A is set up as a text function using the function type - <<GetCell("Grid2", 1, a, 1)>>. I would like to use the values returned from this text function in Column A (Grid 1) in a formula in Column B (Grid 1).
Is it possible to use the values returned in Column A of the text function in another formula? My report does not seem to recognize Column A as numerical values, even though the values to be returned are numerical.
If so, how do I recognize the values in Column A Grid 1 as numerical values and not text?

Yes you need to use the CALC_ERROR macro function to be able to test whether the last macro function returned an error. CALC_ERROR will return an 'X' if there an error occured during the execution of the last macro function.
You can use a macro similar to the following:
IF

ENDIF
Let me explain how this works internally. The SAP system maintains a global variable g_flg_calc_error during the execution of macros in the planning book. The g_flg_calc_error variable will contain the value of f_calc_error that was set by the last macro function which executed. The ABAP coding of a planning book is something like this:
data: g_flg_calc_error type /SAPAPO/FLAG.
* SAP will pass g_flg_calc_error variable to all macro
* functions. When SAP calls a macro function, it does

Buy one hard drive for TimeMachine, large as possible for maximum amount of saved states, keep it connected more often so it updates more often to recover deleted files.
Buy one hard drive the same size or slightly larger to clone your boot drive to it, it will be a hold option key bootable clone in case your boot drive fails to boot. Update it before doing anything major to your machine. Keep it disconnected in case of malware so it doesn't get infected or delete your files.
Buy one hard drive for extra storage if your boot drive is getting full for instance.
Buy one hard drive to backup the extra storage drive and treat it like the clone, make sure you have clean extra storage drive before connecting and updating it.
Label and date each drive, your memory will fail you and you'll accidentally overwrite a drive.
Keep your drives separate and in their respective purposes, in other words do not use partitions or use TimeMachine to backup other drives.
Never use Filevault, it's cracked, it's worthless, impossible to recover data and you'll have to give up the password for repair or customs/searches anyway. Use a external hardware based encrypted drives and USB Iron Keys. This way your sensitive data is off the machine and can be used with another machine.
Despite how many drives and backups, it's good to also make burned and labeled DVD's of your most important files like music for instance when you first get them. It's because sectors fail on hard drives and takes out your data and thus on all backups made afterwards. With burned DVD's it's permanent, unless you scratch it, melt it or loose it.
Hardware also fails, more often than software because it's moved/abused while in operation.
If you lose your TM drive, you ALSO lose what's on the other partitions on the drive or data that TM drive was backing up from other drives.
Drives are cheap, data is not. Protect the data. Because it's a fortune trying to recover lost data off a dead drive.

I have the "continuous processing" problem. I've tried most things. Disaster.
Does anyone foresee any problem with rebooting from installation disc and using Time Machine to restore to the day before I upgraded to A3?

It really depends on what you told TM to exclude from the backup. If you included everything then yes.
If not you may have to manually remove A3 and reinstall A2. Also, you may lose other work you've done during that time like email, documents and stuff.
You can selectively restore from TM and just get your library back. I did a selective restore when the logic board died in my iMac, but all my pictures were on external drives and unaffected by the loss.
I'd make a separate back up of important files before doing any of this.

Using Time Machine to restore external hard drive data

I have been using a Mac Mini running 10.6.8 for years as a media server. I have always been very careful to maintain backups of everything, and the inevitable did happen - the hard drive containing all my media did fail.
To clarify my set up, my Mac Mini internal hard drive is insufficient to store all my media, so I have been using an external 2TB drive to store it. I then set up Time Machine to back up both the Mac Mini and the 2TB external drive to a second 3TB external drive. Now that the 2TB drive with my media has failed, I seem to be having problems restoring all the media from 3TB drive. This is because the Time Capsule interface is designed to display finder windows at various points in time so you can go back to when your missing files existed and restore them. The problem is that I need the entire contents of the dead 2TB drive restored to a new drive, but I can't open a Time Capsule window that shows the contents of the old drive. I have tried opening /Volumes in a finder window, then invoking Time Machine, but my dead hard drive does not show up in the list of volumes. When I open the 3TB drive in a Finder window I can clearly see that it has backups of the 2TB drive, but they are spread out among 83 different snapshots of various dates.
How can I use Time Machine to easily restore the entire contents of the dead 2TB external drive to a new external drive?

Can I restore settings, apps and data from an external hard drive to new Macbook Pro?

I recently lost my Macbook Pro to water damage. It was about 3 years old and tuned for comfort. Unfortunately, my most recent backup is at least 3 months old. I purchased a new MacBook Pro and I'm wondering what my options are for migrating my settings, apps and data from the old hard drive to the new MacBook Pro? I have a USB drive bay that I plan to attach to the new MBP to gain access to the old hard drive. Someone suggested Migration Assistant but my research hasn't turned up any information about migrating data from an external drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS! I guess my research wasn't THAT thorough. I booted with the external drive attached and setup immediately gave me the option to setup using Migration Assistant. It was a little slow via USB (2+ hours) but it was nothing compared to the time it would have taken to do it manually. My new 15" MBP looks exactly like my old 13" MBP. AWESOME!!!
