OSX Lion for free?

I just got the macbook pro, and apparently I'm suppose to get OSX Lion for free because I bought it in the month of July.  But I dont know how to go about that? Can someone please help?

I think you mean Mountain Lion, and July isn't over yet.

  • Is it possible to re-download OSX Lion for free from previous purchase

My husband downloaded OSX Lion but did not save it onto disk, we have 3 mac books at home. Can he re-download without paying again. Thanks

It would be easier to download it on one of the other Macs when logged into the same store Account.
There is a workaround to download it to the Mac upon which the original purchase was made- in the Purchased pane, Option - click on the OS X Lion app name to the left of the INSTALLED button. It takes you to the Lion description page with the Install button now available. Make sure he saves a copy of this before starting the install.
There are other tricks you can do with this downloaded installer, a search on "Lion installer USB drive" will give you many suggestions of what you can do with it.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • How do I upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion for free?

How do I upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion for free? I just bought a new Mac Book Pro 5 days ago with OS X Lion. The Apple store said I could download the new OS for free by entering the receipt # and total amount of the purchase.  I don't know where to start or where to enter this information.  Please help.

    Hi,
Just go to http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/ if in the US otherwise go to main Apple homepage, click on the 'Mountain Lion is here' icon then scroll to the bottom where it says 'Get a free upgrade with your new Mac'. All the info should be there. I did this myself yesterday and am now awaiting my coupon code to get it for free.

  • I got my MBP on june 16 so how can i get lion for free?

i got my macbook pro for birthday and i read that if you purchased it after june 6th you can get lion for free but how do i do that?

The wording on this page seems convoluted to me:
"Users must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request."
If I purchased my shiny new Macbook Pro on June 11, according to the first part of the statement, I must request my Up-to-Date upgrade by July 11, yet the second part of the statement states I will have 30 days from Lion's official release date to make my request.
I am hoping the second statement is the correct one. It would be helpful if Apple fixed this inconsistency...

  • Can I upgrade to Mac Lion for free again?

    Hi
I bought my Macbook Pro in June 2011, and beacse I bought it between a certian timeframe, I was able to upgrade to OS X lion for free from the app store durring a promo or something. All I had to do was put in my Mac serial number to confirm it was right.
I sort of wnat to restore my laptop back....however, that will make it go back to leapord, not lion.
I was wondering if there would be some way to re-get lion for free? I know with other aplications, on the iPhone anyway, you can simply click 'buy now' and it says you already had it once, so you can get it again for free... but since I never paid for this, will it make me?
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

You cannot use Lion until you have upgraded to 10.6.8:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
You received a coupon you can use and redeem on the App Store to download Lion. There is no App Store in Leopard.
