Osx lion get info reporting incorrect file size
Hi all,
I am trying to troubleshoot a strange problem I am having with Adobe Revel. Adobe have been helping me to resolve it but my mac is displaying some odd behaviour which I need to explain and which may be affecting the adobe app.
The adobe app creates a library file of pictures and the file should be growing as I download more pictures. If I right click on the folder and "Get info" the folder size shown is smaller than I would expect at 25MB given that it should contain a good number of Jpeg files.
I have downloaded an app called "Grand Perspective" to help me manage disk space and for this particular file it reports a completely different (much Larger) file size than "Get Info" did (155 MB) which is much closer to what I would expect to find and it is growing as more pictures are downloaded.
Any idea what could cause "Get Info" to report the wrong file size.
I have another osx Lion mac with the same software loaded and although a completely different machine, it reports the same file size for this library folder as grand perspective does.
Any help gratefully accepted.
Slarti
I'm finding the same behaviour running Lion 10.7.2 and the file with the exact same problem as yours is a Sente (bibliography software) library containing references and pdfs. 'Get Info' reports it as 130KB but I know the file is much much larger than that! Even the Size reported on Get Info shows 874.4MB which is still too small. If I 'Show Package Contents' on the file and 'Get Info' on the 'Contents' folder which it then shows, I get the correct size of 1.14GB
Apple Tech Support over the phone wasn't able to explain this behaviour.

"Get Info" displaying wrong file size
Hey Guys take a look at the image to see my issue
get info shows two different file sizes but then when i send the file or upload it to a server it shows the real file size
anyone see this before?Hiya.
When I attach the image to an new empty email, before I send it I do not see any "Image Size popup at the bottom right corner of the window." The only size info I can see is the "Message Size" on the bottom left hand side. On the bottom right hand side there is Image Size with a drop down menu where you can choose to view the image either by "Actual Size"(default), Small, Medium or Large.
I am only able to see the attachment size info above the image after I have sent it when I go into Sent Messages or after I have sent it to myself I can see it in the received message.
Can you tell me where to hover the cursor to get this "Image Size popup"?
I am using Mail - Version 4.2 to send the message.
Thanks again Thomas. -
En CS5 reporting incorrect file size
Hi all, I am creating a DVD9 program with 1 video timeline and 3 audio tracks. I exported out of Premiere AME(win 7 pro x64) the video timeline and main audio track(48k wav). I then exported audio only of the other two tracks mpeg audio.
The exported file sizes that show on my hard drive are:
5.1 gig m2v file
2.1 gig 48k wav file
485 meg mpa audio file
360 meg mpa audio file
In En I imported the video and wav file as a timeline, in the build window it shows the file size as 8.1 gigs, not the appox. 7.2 gig as shown above
I imported the 2 mpa files as assets and added 2 audio tracks to the timeline. When I put either of the mpa assets into the timeline and check the build tab it shows that each mpa file as about 2 gigs.
I confirmed that there is no video associated with the mpa tracks by importing as a timeline and it showed no video track, and triple checked by looking at the file in quicktime movie inspector. I also went back to AME and exported the audio using format dropdown selection as audio only and selected output format of AAC 48k 256 bit rate and got the same result in En
In the project window it showed the 2 mpa files as untranscoded, I even did a transcode in En and that made no difference.
I am at a loss with this one.
Not sure if this matters, the program length is 3.5 hours
Any thoughts?Hi Stan, here are some caps of what I am doing
First cap shows the project files as they appear on my HD
This is the project tab with all assets imported
This shows timline imported on the build tab
This shows the build tab after the second audio track is added
This shows the build tab after the third audio track is in
I have also cleared all cache files, and created a new project.
If I drop all the project files into Nero it shows as an 8.1 gig project, not the 12.1 that shows in En.
To try and determine if there is a corrupt file, I brought each file in one at a time as a timeline, and every one came up as oversized.
I have done this many times before going back to CS3, I have never encountered this before. This is the first time doing this in CS5. -
"Get Info" Reports an Incorrect Number of Files in a Directory
I have a 17" MacBook Pro with OS X, 10.6.4. I've been relying upon Finder's "Get Info" to determine how many files a directory contains, and I never noticed any problems when using it. However, this afternoon I saw an anomaly with the actual number of files in a directory and what "Get Info" reported.
I had previously created a new directory and moved 23 files to it. This morning I added three (3) more files to the directory, for a total of 26 files. This afternoon I added another five (5) files for a final total of 31 files in the directory. While Finder's "Get Info" showed that the directory had been updated this afternoon, it would not update the number of files it contains -- it still showed 26 files and the old total file size. I had to log out and log back in again for it to show me the correct file size and number of files.
Is this normal behavior or was it a glitch in Finder? That is, can I rely upon Finder to tell me the correct number of files in a folder -- or not?
Is there a way to force Finder to refresh itself? I looked around, but I did not see anything obvious, which is why I tried the logout/login method of refreshing it.
Thanks,
Bev in TXWelcome to Apple Discussions.
This is a known issue in Finder. No fix I know of but a decent refresh here.

Incorrect file sizes shown in Finder over NFS and permissions issues
Hi there
This is a problem that existed for me in Leopard and has not been resolved in Snow Leopard.
I have an XSan with a Leopard server sharing over NFS and AFP. When I connect from a Leopard or Snow Leopard client over NFS the file sizes in Finder are incorrectly displayed. My Tiger clients work perfectly.
Also, although it says I have read write access to the files over NFS I cannot save over an existing file when I make changes to it, I instead have to create a new version of it and remove the old one.
Check the link to show a grab of one of the folders in question, the upper window is what the NFS shows me, the lower AFP. If you Get Info on the files over either connection the byte count is identical.
http://www.the-9000.com/images/finder_anomaly.tiff
Any info would be greatly appreciated. This is a problem that existed for me in Leopard and has not been resolved in Snow Leopard.
Have you filed a bug report with Apple?
http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
If not, there's less of a chance they'll know about it and help fix it for you.
Do things look OK from the command line in Terminal?
It would probably be useful to use a tool like Wireshark to check out what each protocol is sending over the wire. That could at least narrow it down to being a client or server issue.
Thanks

Adobe Bridge Reports Inaccurate File sizes
Im still in CS4 but can't seem to find a forum on CS4. In any case, why does Bridge report inaccurate file sizes? I thought I could use bridge to select all of the M2V files in a folder which I wanted to use in an Encore DVD project to get an accurate total file size. That way I would know if all of the selected files would fit on a single DVD. But Bridge doesn't report an accurate total file size of selected files. What's up with that? Is that too much to ask out of Bridge?
but where is the "activity bar"? I don't see another total indicator of
selected files anywhere.
Well I think we are talking about something you already discovered but there
seems not an official name for it I believe, I call it the activity bar, it
might also be called a status bar or status monitor, can't find the official
name for it at this moment.
Anyway It is at the bottom of the Bridge window left side. Click on a folder
and it tells you the number of items showed and items hidden (and here it
should also say the total amount of folder size but as said before, a long
standing feature request). Click on one or more files and it shows the
amount of selected files and the total size of the selected files.
When first opening a folder in the content window Bridge needs to cache the
thumbs and depending on settings also thumbnails. When caching you see in
this bar a spinning arrow showing it is still caching and also the amount of
files to cache that are left.
A very useful item in my workflow -

Adobe Reader worked under the spare Admin account so I deleted that in case it was confusing the installer. I then rerpaired persmissions. I then re-installed Reader. Same problem "Internal Error"!!
So, I re-created another Admin account and opened Reader. No problem. After clicking accept licence it opened up with a question to make default or not. After this I hunted through every folder and found that Under 'User/Librarary/Application Support/Adobe' there was an Acrobat folder. When I checked the account I normally use there wasn't, and never was?? So I copied pasted a copy of the Acrobat folder into the same location on the non working account and all is fine.
Problem for me is, why did this happen? I wasted almost a day on this. Is it a problem with the installer, the Macbook or Permissions. I checked permissions and they are identical to those on the spare Admin account. So why did the installer not create the Acrobat folder on the main account from where it was installed? Reason it concerns me is with regard to updates. Will they also screw up?
I'll try to explore further as times goes on but for now I have to say I've had enough of Acrobat and Lion for one day. "It just works". Really??? -
Incorrect files sizes displayed in the finder
My early 2009 iMac with 4GB Ram, 650Gb HD, running OSX Snow Tiger (latest version) is showing incorrect file sizes for many things. For example, a 4.21GB DVD will show on the desktop as being 4.58GB... any thoughts??

The file system appears to report the incorrect file size for files >4g.
sftp> ls -la

If you use a ls -lah command it shows correctly
sftp> ls -lah

it also shows incorrectly from Filezilla, and from the web browser interface on the NASHi
Today is your lucky day dude. Seems I found a solution :D
Pelase take a look into this forum thread:

The user JayJay has provided a link to the Toshiba document which helps to clear this issue.
This is the original document;

FTP connections through Finder not reporting correct file size
Hi,
I have a NAS that running as an FTP server. When I connect to it through Finder it reports the incorrect file size of 2.7GB (the real file size is 61GB)
Its an DMG image file so it obviously fails when I try to image a new IMAC.
FTP through windows reports the correct file size so rules out any problem on the NAS.
Any ideas anybody?
Many thanks.Hi,

Incorrect file size in download list
Incorrect file size in download list.
Use russian localized Safari. If I download file and it size is 12 Mb then Safari show 12 Gb!Hi
You can try the following approach.
First you can download all the records to one file and than using the following
CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES => FILE_GET_SIZE
You can find the size, when you have size value.
You can do division as per your requirement and loop the internal table and download accordingly

Get Info on QT files displays movie duration on initial display but then won't display duration on subsequent queries.
Update to original: Restarting Finder resets all files to display duration on the first query. So is this more appropriately a Finder question/problem?

Finder crashes when I attempt to "get info" on a file
My finder crashes when I try to "get info" on a file by clicking Apple-I. Any suggestions for how to proceed?
Michael GreenStill having the problem; any suggestions for how to fix it? I've run Onyx, Tech Tool Pro and Disk Utility.

Why can't I select "get info" from the file area so I can change the setting to "open in 32-bit mode" ?
It may be because of your settings. You can modify that setting in System Preferences > Trackpad. Another way of making right-click is to click the app icon while holding the Control key

If I open a movie file (appears to be any type - .mov, m4v, mv4) it displays on the desktop, but when clicked, the Mac reverts to another open application (immediately UNDER to point of the mouse click) and not the displayed movie file. It appears the screen mapping is flawed...
Anyone else have this problem? (does not appear to be a problem with QT7) Running OSX Lion 10.7.3 and QT Player 10.1 (501.8) - all most current as far as I can tell...Yes, same problem. The active clickable area appears to be shifted down and to the right as if it is the shadow mask (to make it look like layers in the display) that is responding. Means you can't move the control palette to the top of the window (to not block security video with time track at bottom) or even close the window. The X in the bubble appears when moused over but the click goes through it.
Most obvious if you open more than one movie at a time and they cascade. You can't get at the ones underneath until a few down the stack and it gets an upper wrong one.
Who's testing these things?
For comparison testing to recreate problem: Mac Pro (System Information has also been dumbed down from System Profiler, push System Report for the useful stuff) with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 driving two displays.
Also viewing desktop of another computer on the network is slower and, for instance in World of Warcraft, the hand pointer flickers.
And finder windows can't be narrowed as much any more to show only a list of file names for drag and drop sorting.
Was hoping that by 10.7.3, it would be safe to jump, since several posts told me how to Terminal > networksetup -setv6off Ethernet to fix iTunes streaming to expresses and other dumb bugs.
