OSX Lion on MacBook
I downloaded OSX Lion and it keeps telling me on my MacBook to restart by pressing power button then powering back up. Every time same message comes up. I can't get past that although I restart every time.
Sounds like a kernel panic, but the paucity of details precludes making a sound assessment. See

Nope. You can purchase a Snow Leopard DVD for $29.00 through an Apple retailer or ordering from AppleCare:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.

Is it possible to install osx lion on MacBook 3,1 ?
There are several good sets of instructions on how to create an installation backup, whether flash drive or DVD. One such is this MacWorld article. There are other approaches using Recovery Assistant that are good also. While these articles say Lion, they are also true for Mountain Lion...both Mac OS Xs have an installer that you must use to make the backup before you install it as it is deleted as the last step in the installation process. The trick is to download the installer, make a copy in another location on your system, and use that copy to create a backup drive/disk.

In plain english, how do I replace my hard drive in my OSX Lion equipped macbook pro?
Hi, I have a late 2009 13" macbook pro. It is running OSX lion 10.7.5. It only has a 250GB hard drive, and I want to upgrade it to a 7200 rpm 750gb hard drive. (yes I know, SSD blah blah blah, when those become cheaper, I'll think about it)
I have a brand new 7200 rpm 750gb western digital notebook hard drive, on it's way here. I also have a hard drive enclosure on it's way as well.
Can someone walk me through, step by step, how to complete the process of copying everything over to my new hard drive? I can tackle the actual drive install, that is no problem.
Since I have OSX Lion, I have to copy the recovery partition over first right? How is that actually accomplished? With either of the 2 programs I mentioned. Yes OS X. You Clone the complete drive, OS, Programs and all files on the drive, to an external drive and or a separate partition on an external drive. You can then Boot the computer off that external drive. You have to have an external, or partition on the external, big enough to fit whatever is on your drive now and then some extra space. Carbon Copy Cloner will allow you to Clone the Recovery HD partition over to the external also. Not sure if SuperDuper does this as I haven't used either of them in awhile.

Awesome, I appreciate the response. When you say "clone my current install", you're talking about OSX right? So how do I actually clone the current install?
The drive I purchased is a WD "black" scorpion drive, not blue or green. -
On OSX Lion, My MacBook Pro freezes with rainbow on log in screen.
When I restart or shut down the rainbow circle shows up on my log in screen. I've also noticed a slight battery life changed. My MacBook Pro is 2.4GHz Core i5. I taught the update OSX Lion 10.7.1 helped but it didn't.
Please Help. Thanks.Yep, because unchecking the 'Automatic graphics switching' uses your AMD or GeForce graphics card instead of the low power usage Intel onboard graphics. This is why I don't use the login screen. I just automatically log in. I'd rather have Apple fix the login screen lockup in a future dot release.
To see what I mean, click on the Apple in the upper left corner of your menu bar, then 'About this Mac' then the 'More Info...' button and look at the Graphics. It should say your AMD or GeForce graphics card. When that checkbox is checked and you log in, the Graphics info should show your Intel onboard graphics card. -
Upgrading to OSX Lion on macbook 5.1 aluminum unibody?
Hi,
Is it worth upgrading from OSX Leopard to OSX Lion on a macbook 5.1 aluminum unibody (early '09)?
I have heard that some have experienced problems with battery life and overheating.
My system is fairly healthy, though a little slow at times. Maybe I should just clean up diskspace and reinstall Leopard or even Snow Leopard?
Thanks.only upgrade if you feel you would benefit from any of the features in Lion.

TS3926 Installing OSX Lion on MacBook Air
I have a MacBook Air with solid state hard drive. The Disk Utility partition tool shows that "This partition cannot be modified". What can I do?
rockville wrote:
When I started the downloaded Lion file, it asked me "What hard drive do you want to install Lion on?". There is only one drive, but I cannot select it, (it was greyed out) because of his disk cannot be used to start up your computer". I did the exact same on my desktop machine with no problem. Thanks
Rock,
If you have a spare USB flash drive around you can make a copy of the Lion install on your desktop machine and use it to boot your MacBook Air. See the article here.
Hope this will help,
Clinton
Oh, you can also install on your drive from the flash drive, too.

OSX Lion overheating Macbook 5.1
Has anyone else experienced this. My macbook is running so much hotter than with snow leopard...***?
I turned off time machine (after backup) and it seemed to help a little...is this bug going to be the death of my mac?I was having exactly the same problem and I think many others are too.
I found another threat which gave me a solution. Seems to be a process running from Citrix.
go to the Activity monitor, and select "all processes" I had a process called agadminservice which was using 99% of my CPU.
I uninstalled Citrix but couldn't get rid of the problem.
Go to Terminal and type the following:
sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.citrix.agadminservice.plist
you'll have to enter your password.
It'll cool off shortly thereafter.
I can't claim to have figured it out...but seemed to work for me. -
I want to move my home folder to an external drive, I have read some posts, went into the user account, i am there as admin, for the life of me I cant find the advanced table to direct the home folder to the external folder, where I have a copy of my MacPro desktop home folder, any tips appreciated
If you are trying to move your media files to an external hard drive no need to move you home folder. Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449 iPhoto= http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229

Trim function in osx lion for Macbook Air
When does SSD trimming start? Can it be manually forced?

You do not need to force TRIM. I guarantee you that the SSD knows far better than you how to manage wear leveling.
Not so that is why they created TRIM. If the drive knew better then TRIM would not be needed. -
Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.
Any help is much appreciated.

PS: I couldn't find a correct catagory, so I hope this is close enough. If not please tell me where I should be posting this.Contact the App store for Apple ID help. Their support link is on the right of the App store window

any ideas ?Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Have a macbook pro running osx lion. Connected a Kindle Fire using micro usb and the disk icon doesn't show up on the desktop. Also sometimes get a message sayiing computer doesn't recognize device. When I opened disk utilities the Kindle disk does show up there. What am I missing?

Kindle is connected directly, not thru a hub. Also called Amazon Kindle support, tech was baffled when I told her I was using a Mac. She said, "I'm not really familiar with apple products."
Precisely why it's not an iPad, and why it doesn't cost very much. An Apple rep would tell you how to connect an iPad to every computer.
