OSX Lion recovery without Apple ID?

I've been trying to erase and reinstall Lion on a refurb (not Apple) MacBook Pro (2011) I bought recently, in order to send it back (so minus any of my details and as I received it).
I've either got stuck on the Internet Recovery (got spinning globe and then error 2002F - no idea what that is though) or using Recovery HD I get as far as the reinstall, only for it to ask my Apple ID - and then to be told I've not purchased Lion (although I have purchased ML on my account for my other Mac this was to replace).
Do I assume then that Lion wasn't actually shipped with this MBP if it's asking me to download from the App Store? I've erased the disk, so at least they can't get my details (not that any real sensitive date was entered) but wanted to restore so it was back to exactly how it was shipped.
Any help would be appreciated!

That is most likely correct - the previous owner must have upgraded to Lion and that license is not transferable and tied to the original Apple ID forever. So, if you are returning it (why are you returning it?), just send it back without an OS installed.

Does MBA's Lion Recovery require Apple ID when re-installing OS?

If you bought Lion via Mac App Store, and you want to re-install it using Lion Recovery mode, IT DOES require Apple ID to certificate your purchase history. This is the case when you bought Lion separated from your Mac.
However, I'm just curious the case of purchasing Mac with Lion installed by default, just like MacBook Air-2011.
When you want to re-install Lion on your MacBook Air, which came with Lion, using Lion Recovery mode, does it require you to enter your Apple ID to download install files from a server?
I heard, in terms of iLife, when you buy a new Mac now, it asks you your Apple ID on the first start-up and it registers iLife-iMovie,iPhoto,Garageband- to your Mac App Store account's "Purchase History" so you can re-install iLife whenever you want from MAS.
If, Lion goes for the same with the case of iLife, how can I sell my MacBook Air to another person? There's no way I let the buyer use my Apple ID.
iLife-less MacBook Air will do the job but without OS? I can't sell it to another person because OS is a fundamental.
Any experience? Oh, btw, I haven'y bough any Mac with Lion installed by default, which is the reason I'm curious how things work.

Could you tell me more about "one time transfer?" Did you use it as a legal term or a technical term? If it is a technical term, is there a way to transfer my purchase(s) to another person?

I am running OXS Lion. I cannot puchase OSX Lion Server without buying OSX Lion again in the App Store?

I am currently using OSX Lion. I went to the App Store to buy OSX Lion Server. It informs me I have to buy OSX LIon as a package with the Server. Why do I need to buy Lion twice to get the server?

Have you bought Lion with the same account you're trying to install Lion Server?
Normally you didn't have to pay Lion twice. You only have to had installed Lion with the newst update to load and install Lion server

OSX LION recovery - continue button stuck off screen

I've got a kernel panic so I'm trying to reinstall Lion, the recovery screen has loaded but the screen is in such low res that the "continue to install button" is off screen. I don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel so zooming in isn't an option right now. Any advice?

Why can't I install lion recovery?

So I had a problem with find my mac and as told to install "Mac OSX Lion Recovery Update v1.0" (see here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1464)
Anyway when I came to install this on my selected partition (Macintosh HD) I was presented with the following error "Lion recovery update cannot be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package"
Does anyone know why this has happened? And also how to fix it?

P.S. I have 3 partitions on my HDD, one is Macintosh HD, another is Bootcamp (which i created using the bootcamp installer) and the last is just a FAT partition.

It sounds as if you don't have a functioning Recovery HD now, probably because of the altered partitioning. Is your Mac capable of Lion Internet Recovery without a Recovery HD? Some recent (2010?) Macs that originally shipped with Snow Leopard were offered an EFI firmware update for this.
If not, and if you don't want to erase and restore your internal HD, the other option in the linked support article was to install and keep a Recovery HD partition on a different volume than your internal HD:
You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.
Once you have the Recovery HD as part of a new Lion installation on an external drive, you might be able to transfer just the Recovery HD from there onto a USB flash drive as described here:

I don't know if all this is any better than the first option of reinstalling everything on the HD.

I am new to apple product, i just got my new MacBook Pro late 2011 about 2 months ago, and recently my laptop getting slow so i decided to use mac osx lion recovery, and yesterday i do it, i reninstalled as their was brief description about how to reinstall the refresh copy of macosx lion
now all the pre installed apps like iphoto, imovie, GrageBand, etc. are not in lauch pad, perhaps deleted, please some help me i want them back, how can get it back

Since the current version of the QT MPEG-2 Playback component continus to work for me under Lion, I might suspect the codec was either orphaned during the upgrade or you have some sort of conflict at work.

I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
It was Ram for me..

Ebay-password Recovery Disc for Mac OSX Lion

Dear Apple Support Communities: recently on ebay, I have seen several sellers selling a Password Recovery Disc for Mac OSX Lion. This Password Recovery disc claims to be able to reset Lion's password of any user account WITHOUT knowing the old password! Is this possible? This is scary! If so, is there a way to prevent someone from using this disc to reset someone's password without them knowing it? Anyone can do this from the terminal without even a CD, so no it's not very scary.
If they advertised that they could get into file vault, or the keychain, then that would be another story altogether.

I've reinstalled my MacBook Pro (OSX Lion) using a different apple ID, and now I can't install any iLife apps. In the app store it comes up with "Accept" and then tells me It can't accept from my user ID. How can I fix this or get iLife back?

Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.
Any help is much appreciated.

What is Apple using to hide Lion Recovery, how can I duplicate it?

After installing Lion, it includes a recovery partition (Recovery HD). This partition is visible in the startup disk screen in the EFI (booting using option), however, it doesn't show up in finder, nor does it show up in Disk Utility (unless you have the debug menu, and enable show all partitions). Obviously it doesn't automount, that's one thing, but Apple is doing something to keep it from even showing up in disk utility.
Recently I upgraded my HDD in my Macbook Pro, I cloned it and so I lost the Lion Recovery utility. I've since added it back manually, and I'd like to place it in the same condition as it is when installed along side Lion (without having to go through migration on a fresh install, etc).
Does anyone know how to duplicate this state that the Lion Recovery HD is in?
I'm not really looking for alternatives - like reinstalling, etc, etc.. I'm also interested in the mechanism being used here.
Can anyone shed light?

You can set it to Apple_Boot using gpt and this is indeed what hides it from GUI apps like disk utility. Apple_Boot is just a hidden version of Apple_HFS; the recovery partition is just an ordinary journaled HFS+ volume that can be manually mounted with diskutil mount disk0s3 (or whatever slice the recovery partition happens to be).
To change a GUID partition type to Apple_Boot one needs to know the UUID -- which for reference is 426F6F74-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC -- and remove the partition using gpt then re-add it with the desired type. This won't destroy the data of course, but one needs to make a note of the start and size values of the partition (as shown by gpt show) before the remove and then use them when re-adding. See the manual page for gpt.

Through some accidental research (don't ask…), I found that Lion's version of Disk Utility will also restore the Recovery HD partition when using DU's Restore to image a Lion Partition. I verified this several times. If there is no Recovery HD, it will recreate an existing one from the source HD to the destination, and will be positioned immediately following the Lion partition.
If no Recovery HD exists in the source, but does in the destination, it will leave the destination alone. For instance, if you have an image of a Lion partition, but for some reason, no Recovery partition, you can do a clean install of Lion on the destination - creating a Recovery partition - then restore your Lion image to the destination (replacing the clean install). It will leave the recovery partition alone at the destination.
If no Recovery HD exists in either source or destination, I don't believe DU will create one - this is one scenario I didn't test.

Cannot upgrade to OSx Lion no Recovery

I purchased and tried to install the OSx Lion upgrade. My mac is running Mac OSx 10.6.8 and I have bootcamp with Windows 7
It seems that there is some sort of problem in upgrading the OS when bootcamp is installed, but I am not sure of which would be the solution. The error says :
Mac OS X can't be installed on the disk Macintosh HD, because a recovery system can't be created. Visit www.apple.com/support/no-recovery to learn more.
From an internet search I think that a possible solution would be to have an external hard drive and install OSx lion on it. However, the hard drive must be formatted and have at least 13 G free, so that I will have to purchase a new hard drive only for this task :-( . Before doing so, I'd ask to the community if anyone had experience with this issue and what is the solution. Any help will be greatly appreciate ^_^ Thanks!!!
As a side note I'd like to express my deep disappointment in my Mac, fueled by the frustration of being unable to do a simple task, such as upgrading the OS. This is really the last drop. I can honestly say that buying my macbook pro was a very big mistake :-(
Since I bought it, almost one year ago, I had only problems. The OS is slow and crashes very often. I lost countless hour of work due to crashes, and disk failures. Most of the software is either not compatible, or full of bugs, while I had to pay lots of money for any kind of upgrade/assistance. The upgrade to Osx lion is my latest desperate attempt to stabilize the OS. I can't honestly say that there is a single task which this mac can accomplish, beside browsing e-mails.

For the triple boot: I am installing rEFIt. I dod not think that the problems with OSx Lion are related to this, as I took the decision to install Linux after failing to update the OSx
I would be glad if we can bring the topic back to ways to upgrade to OSx Lion while having bootcamp. Did anyone ever succeded in doing so? ^_^
About the unstable OS:
I have about 3-4 fatal crashes per week. Sometimes the mac is unresponsive and I have to restart it manually, sometimes the screen goes black and the computer restarts itself.
From what I have noticed I'd say this happens either while I am using some application, or just by using an external hard driver.
About the application: I'd say I can divide the crashes based on percentage of occurrance as follows:
60% with Microsoft Power Point (I can't say if it's because of the program or just because I use it at least 70% of the time) 30% Programming( C++, Fortran or Matlab) 10% Latex (using TeX Shop). The crash is immediate and I am not saving or doing anything in particular. Just typing text.
About the external hard drivers: I had some serious crashes due just by plugging in removable hard drivers, or reading/writing on them. This accounts for about 50% of overall crashes. It is not the same hard drive: I had crashes with multiple sources and I think it's some serious issue with the OS. I take extra care in safely removing and ejecting before unplugging from any source. Probably an important comment: most of the flash drivers I have used are also used with Linux systems. I never had a problem in Linux or Windows.

How to create Lion recovery boot usb WITHOUT recovery partition?

I give up. I can't find the answer to this. So, I'll just ask and hope.
I have a mid-2011 mini that was upgraded to Lion. However, it had a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7.
Apparently, whoever upgraded my machine didn't create a recovery boot disk before upgrading.
So, I have no recovery partition and apparently no ability to create a recovery boot usb without one.
Apple's ******** support policy is to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything--which is simply not going to happen.

If you kept a copy of the installer, then open it up, and restore the InstallESD.dmg to an empty partition or flash drive. Do note that doesn't give you the Recovery HD, but you won't need one since you can reinstall w/o downloading anything but additional components from Apple's servers.

Restart with the COMMAND+OPTION+R keys pressed and held until you see a spinning globe. This boots into Internet Recovery and the Apple servers. You can then download/install the most current version of OS X that was pre-installed on your Mini.
To restart into the Recovery HD, press and hold the COMMAND+R keys until you see the Apple logo. This boots into Recovery Mode from your internal drive's Recovery HD. You can then download/install the most current version of OS X that is installed on your Mini.
