OSX Lion stuck at reinstallation

Hello dear Apple community,
I recently decided to have a fresh re-installation of OSX Lion on my Macbook Pro because it was craaawling slow over the last few weeks.
I erased the hard disk and chose to re-install as indicated in the official apple assistance page.
The problem now, is that since yesterday (it's been more than 12 hours) my laptop is stuck at a white screen with a wheel spinning on the botton and a "forbidden" sign in the middle of the screen. Please see the snapshot below. It's been like that for more than 12 hours, and I thought I should wait for it to finish something that it has been doing, but watching a few videos and visiting some websites on how to re-install I saw that this shouldn't happen!
Note: Please, don't tell me what I should have done, like reinstalling from a flash drive etc. Please tell me, how I would be able to solve this now, because I need my computer to be functioning tomorrow morning for my job.
Thank you.

Are you sure shutting it down manually is a safe choice?
Yes it is safe, besides the only other option is running the battery till empty and that is not good for the battery.
Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.
The display should show a revolving globe.
If you follow the directions, you will be connected to the Apple servers.  There will be a four option menu.  Select Disk Utility and erase the HDD.  Then select the reinstall option and it should allow for the installation of the original OSX.
You will need a solid Internet connection.

i am obviously able to start into lion recovery, but my time machine backups are on the other side of the world.
when i do a safe boot if stops with two entrys of nstat_lookup_entry failed: 2
    any help is much appreciated

    You can do two things
1: Install Lion over itself via the Recovery, won't touch your files or most programs.
Any program has a kernel extension file in System/Library/Extensions folder, that will get kicked out. Thus those few programs won't work and require a reinstall of their software
2: Install Lion on a blank powered external Disk Utility > Erase with Zero + GUID OS X Extended Journaled formatted hard drive, hold the option key and boot from it, same named user, and then access your internal drive to recovery files, disconnect then do #1

  • Lion Stuck at login screen, can't type password

My OSX Lion stuck at login screen, when I type password it just "beep" and I can only type few words.I just had those problem before..But since the battery ran out,and I gonna login...then I can't type the password...please help me....
P.S. My keyboard and trackpad is not working before,my keyboard can't type and my trackpadcan only do right click..

What year and model of MacBook Pro do you have?  I'm wondering if the factory installed battery is failing due to age or use.  A MacBook Pro battery can be recharged about 300 times before it becomes unuseable.  Is this possibly the problem?
    Hope this helps

  • Osx Lion reinstall stuck at less than a minute

hhere is the deal. I had to reformat my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after it would freeze up after startup. I reformatted and everything went fine other than the 7 hours it took. I went to reinstall osx lion and it gave me a total time of 12 plus hour. Now it has been stuck at less than a minute for almost an hour. I'm totally nervous that all this time has been wasted for this stupid macbook to just freeze up again. Any suggestions or is this normal??

I've got the exact same problem. My mac started to freeze up at random. This made it impossible to use. After I tried to reinstall everything, by potentially thinking that it might be some vius, or corruption. I've now been trying to reinstall eveything for aprox 6 hours and I'm stuck at 'less than one minute' and been so for around 2 hours.

  • Reinstalling osx lion online stuck at 22 hours remaining

I'm trying to reinstall is lion for more than a day now over the internet and the progress bar keeps dancing from 21 to 22 hours left for more than a day now. I have  a good internet speed and it would never take me more than a day to just down loan 10% of the osx lion file and now it seems to be stuck at 21 hours left and infact the remaining time is increasing instead of decreasing. Please help I have spend more than a day on this download. Is Apple servers on a vacation now. I don't have a dmg on a bootable USB. Any help guys...

Try these steps, but first, power off the computer by holding in the power button and then skip over the steps that tell you to shut down the computer. But note, by holding in the power button, you might corrupt several files and might have no choice but to erase and reinstall OS X. Make sure you have a Time Machine backup or another type of backup or allow the download to finish.
    Reinstall OS X
Note: This will not erase any data on the disk. However, it is highly recommended that you create a backup before continuing.
Erasing OS X can solve various problems such as corrupt system files.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold both the R and Command (⌘) keys on the keyboard until the Recovery partition loads.
Select Reinstall OS X and then choose Continue.
    Follow the instructions.
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
Note: This will delete all data on the disk. Back up important files before continuing.
Erasing and then reinstalling OS X can give you a fresh start, making your computer exactly as it was whenever you received it from Apple. This can solve various problems such as corrupt system files.
Select Disk Utility and then choose Continue.
Select your startup disk (Macintosh HD by default) from the left.
    Select the Erase tab.
Choose the Format pop-up menu and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), enter a name for your disk, and then click Erase.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X and then choose Continue.
    Follow the instructions.
I hope I solved your question.

  • Get ical error msg 404 on both my MacBook pros, but not my MacPro Desktop. Same ical ver 5.02 & all are OSX Lion. Both MacBooks get ical stuck with error msg & I must force quit to get rid of window. How can I fix?

Upgraded both my MacBook Pro Laptops, the 2011 - 13" and my 2006 - 15" to OSX Lion. Then I upgraded my MacPro Desktop also to OSX Lion.  No problems with MacPro, but iCal, when I open on both my laptops, constantly comes up with Error msg 404 as follows:  "The Server responded with an error.  The URL https://p03-caldav.icloud.com/286232046/principal encountered HTTP error 404.  Make sure URL is correct."  When I click OK, I just get a duplicate error message immediately and I can do nothing with iCal or my computer until I force-quit iCal.
iCal on all 3 of my mac is Ver 5.01 (1571), but only my laptops are affected with this problem.  What can I do?

  • I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

  • How to install all the drivers for the MacBook with Windows 7 or 8 without the disk from OSX Lion? Where can I find the drivers?

Guys, a have one big problem..My customer brought me a macbook with windows 7 installed to do a format and reinstallation, but she is no longer the OSX Lion, and do not know how to install the sound drivers, "touchpad", among other drivers, how to solve this? Where can I find the drivers? The MacBook is now with Windows 8 installed.

    Sorry my bad english..
See is meant. The MacBook has already come for me with Windows 7 installed, checked that it does not have another partition with OSX Lion installed, do not know how the person who did the maintenance before I managed to remove the partition with the Lion, so I can not create a disk or access boot camp because there is no partition Lion and don't own the DVDs of OSX Lion, you understand me?
There is a boot camp Windows executable? Where do I find, since I poked around and found nothing on ...
The sound driver is installed, but not working ... and the rest are missing there also, the trackpad also does not work correctly, the right button does not work ... My experience with mac is low, it may be that you do not know how it works correctly the trackpad

  • Could I still use the "find my mac"-app if I downgraded from OSX Lion to Snow Leopard?

In the beginning of 2012, I had the great misfortune of getting robbed and all my recording equipment was stolen, including my macbook pro 17" running on OSX Snow Leopard.  I was able to buy a new macbook, same as the old one, but with the OSX Lion.  It didn't take long before I noticed that it wasn't running as smooth as the previous OSX.  At first I thougt it was the hardware; Steve Jobs had just died and I thought the people at Apple felt like they could finally ditch the high standards that were once enforced upon them and go Windows on our *****.  But I soon learned it was the software.  After re-purchasing my recording-software and trying and failing to install it, time after time, I got to a point where I just wanted to smash the whole thing and throw it out the window...  Fortunately I managed to get a hold of myself.  Now, I still want to get rid of the osx Lion and downgrade, but I don't want to have my stuff stolen again at some point and then find out that not only will Apple not pay out the insurance I payed for, but also I can't find my macbook anywhere, because I don't have this stupid application anymore because I downgraded.  So, I was wondering if there's any chance to have the best of both worlds. (or the best of one world and then just the other/previous world)  The only thing that's good about Lion is the "find my mac"-app.  All the rest utterly ***** ***!!
    Sincerelly,
    a very disgruntled mac-user.

"Find my Mac" is an OS X Lion feature and is not available in Snow Leopard. So if you want Find My Mac in yor MacBook Pro you'll be stuck to OS X Lion.
I don't know what else to tell you other than consider buying Lo-Jack for laptops.
    Hope this helps!

  • Now that I have installed OSX Lion, my flash player won't work.

After I installed OSX Lion a few days ago my flash player suddenly stopped working. It won't let me update (it says I have the newest version) and when say, I try to watch a YouTube video a little box comes up over the player with settings and the "allow" button but no matter if I use the trackpad or the keyboard I can't select anything.
It's getting really annoying because I can't play games, watch videos or video share online anymore and I have no idea how to fix it.
Is it just something that will be stuck until Adobe releases a version that isn't beta for OSX 10.7?

This allows me to watch videos which is great but still when I try to play any flash games or enable a webcam on something other than iChat, Skype or Photobooth the dialog box comes up and even using tab and space bar like Adobe suggests doesn't seem to work. :-/
Glad to be able to watch videos again though

  • Request help for purchasing HD webcams using iMac, OSX &Lion

I am requesting help for purchasing a HD webcam using iMac, OSX &Lion.  Any suggestions would help.  The following is what I've done so far...
I purchased Logitech's HD C910 webcam. It was a mess in requards to freezing up, no zoom and most of all no adjustments in: contrast, hue, color, etc. You're stuck just like a car with no engine or wheels who wants that.  The other Logitech products i.e. Pro 9000 is being discontinued with no software updates in the future  and the same with the other products. Most of the other manufactures do not provide software that is really compatible provideing true HD with full features. I'm willing to spend around $199,00 or so.  Any suggestions?

Well I found my own answer to the webcam concern that I had ....I bought the Logitech C-910...Yes, I know the Logitech states their software is not compatible with OS X ...That's OK, I only use the basics supplied by Logitech to open the cam...Logitech does supply HD settings which are useful.  I like the wide angle which is there to play around. Then I use a software program called "Webcams Settings" found at Apple's App Store. There is a small charge for this download but more than worth it to have a fully functioning system.  The best way to get there is obliviously via your "Dock." Click on the icon and type in "Webcam Settings" in the top right portion of the page and presto....you have all the goodies to play like a professional. i.e.:  zoom, pan, tilt, aperture. etc. of course your webcam camera(s) must have the capability to perform these options in order to use them.
Note I have used my webcam for everything you can imagine and have a 60 foot cord (several cords linked together) to go outside (LOL) 'Just love the goodies with "Webcam Settings".  I take outstanding pics too if I do say so, please.  Funny, I rarely use my cam to Skype but knowing the option is there for me anytime I wish.  I my cam to photograph orchids and misc. even portraits and family play photos with my tripod in hand.   Just because there is a big road block in your path doesn't mean there aren't other avenues. In the corporate life it's called take a negative and make it a positive or else.......and if you have to gripe then you better have an idea on how to turn it around.  -So- I did Logitech and Apple.

  • HT1338 why my imac telling me the osx lion  app cannot be downloded what am i missing . i got the latest snow leopardd

i have been trying to download osx lion on my imac and its telling me 1 day and 19 hours  it download for a while then it cuts off telling me that .the app cannot be downloaded  .i have the latest  snow leopard  and i paid  for osx lion....what am i doing wrong ?

Could be a variety of factors
1: You have a machine that doesn't qualify for 10.7, like a Intel Core Duo. (check the requirements for 10.7)
2: Your ISP connection isn't fast enough or reliable enough (you do know Lion reinstalls are also done via online?)
3: You have a bad connection or ISP data caps.
4: You have changed your DNS settings and the Akamai servers Apple uses is too far from your location, (switch your DNS settings back to your ISP's DNS settings)
5: You don't have enough free drive space or RAM to handle 10.7. (2GB-4GB RAM, x amount of drive space to download 10.7)
6: You have leechers on your Internet and they are affecting your bandwidth.
7: You may have something installed or some other issue causing the problems.
Bewarned that your older PPC based software WILL NO LONGER WORK if you install 10.7!!!
This includes older drivers for third party printers, scanners etc.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
In my opinion if your not covered by AppleCare, do not install 10.7.

I am on my 9th attempt at deleting and re-downloading.  Called Apple tech and they did a scan of my iMac which I sent to them.  Apparently files are getting corrupted during the download process and Apple tech services is saying to just delete and try again, but this many times?

Might try Cinebench to test. I doubt you'll get too much, unless it fails completely.
You could try a clean install, if you have a good backup and see if the problem persists.
But don't migrate anything until you're sure the issue is gone.
