OSX Lion, Windows Network Printer

I upgraded to OSX Lion, the process was easy and works well.
The printers I setup with Snow Leopard on the windows network do not function anymore.
When I print the printer goes to pause immediately. Release the job, it goes to pause again.
Oddly before one could browse the network and add printers. That functionality is also gone now.
Some of the printers require authentication the previous OS would allow you to enter your windows network password.
There are other folks also complaining of the same issue. It may have to do with the SMBX that is part of the new OS.

I have the same issue, and with me, it is not a keychains issue.
In the past, my Brother HL-2030 laser printer was connected to my DSL modem (a Telekom Austria Pirelli PRGAV4202N). After entering its IPP URL, that worked perfectly.
With Lion, this has stopped working, showing exactly the symptoms you described (printer goes to pause immediately).
Today, I have moved the printer from the Pirelli modem to my Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS which supports USB printing, too.
With the NAS, printing does not work, either, but the symptoms slightly vary. In the beginning, there is a slight improvement: When I click the "+" icon for adding a printer, the printer shows up in the list! (This is new - with the Pirelli modem, I had to manually enter the IPP URL.)
But as soon as I try printing, the printer queue dialog (German MacOS) shows "Drucker suchen" ("searching for a printer") for a few seconds, and then the printer dialog shows the printer as paused ("Angehalten.") with the additional information "Drucker ist nicht angeschlossen" ("printer is not connected").
When selecting the blue "i" (print job info), the information "Auftragsnachricht: Der Drucker-URI ist falsch oder existiert nicht mehr." (literally: "print job message: The printer URI is wrong or does not exist any longer".)
This is really annoying, and I am desparately looking for a solution, too.

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • Macbook Pro not printing to Windows network printer

    Hello,
Recently purchased Macbook Pro Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion and I am unable to print to a windows network printer.
When I click the print button nothing happens. I have tried to print from Safari, Word, Excel etc and nothing happens.
The printer is added and showing as idle. ( I am able to print to the printer from my own Windows 7 PC).
I have reset the printer settings and re-added but the issue remains.
Both the printer and Macbook are connected to the network.
    Has anyone any suggestions please?.
    Thanks,
    Frank

. are you using the right driver? try checking with HP if they have a driver that is compatible with lion.

  • Printing to a Windows Network printer after 10.4.9 upgrade

Very desperate with this. We have a couple macs at the office and after a move and some software updates all cannot print via a Windows network printer.
Unable to connect to SAMBA host is the only error we receive.
I checked my smb:\\ syntax, I have tried IP address, tried picking from the list (which by the way the printers do show up yet you cannot print to them)
Extremely frustrating and with an Anti-Mac IT director this gives him more ammo to say Macs are irrelavant in the workplace.
The Macs are bound to Windows Active Directory and the users are Active Directory users. We do not have a Mac OS X server. Our printer server is Windows 2003 SP1, the printers range from an HP LaserJet 4100 to a Xerox WorkCentre 24, all do not work.
The ONLY network printer that appears to work is the printer associated during the login
Curious if anyone with 10.4.7 and higher have problems....

  • HT3049 Why do I keep getting "Connection failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" when trying to print on Windows networked printer over wi-fi?

Why do I keep getting "Connection failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" when trying to print on Windows networked printer over wi-fi?

If I run the following (on the machine I'm trying to set up the share)
    smbclient -L localhost -U%
    I got the following output
Connection to localhost failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
so I thought it might be something incorrect with the iptables side of things, however I haven't really touched that at all and it seems to look correct
    iptables -nvL
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 667 packets, 79977 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT 157 packets, 20724 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
So from my (very little) knowledge this appears correct (I think)... However it appears that something is blocking access somewhere.

  • How do I print from an iPad to a windows network printer?

How do I print from an iPad 2 to a windows network printer (without AirPrint)?

Thx for the suggestion, but it defeats the purpose by having to have my desktop computer running. I am looking for an app or hardware device that will allow me to print directly from my Ipad to my printers without having to turn on a computer to do it.
I have tried the Lantronix xprint server and while it works with my older Brother Laser it does not work with my newer Kodak ESP Office 6150 (and it doesn't look like they are even interested in attempting to write support for it into their printer list)
I have tried every app in the app store and none of them do the job WITHOUT having to have a computer running on the network.
    Let me re-state the problem...
I want to print from either my Iphone 4  or my original version Ipad to my network attached printers without having to have a computer running on the network to do it. I have a Brother HL-5150D laser printer hooked to my apple airport extreme's usb port and a Kodak ESP Office 6150 connected to the network via WiFi. How can I do this.

  • Windows network printing to HP Laserjet 4L

Recently got our first mac, an iBook runing OSX 4.4 Tiger. A great part of the deal was that we could get a free printer, a Deskjet 5900 series to replace our old color printer which was not working so well. We have a home network with 2 desktops both running Windows 2000, a printer connected to each one, a linksys modem connected to cable and a linksys router connecting them all via ethernet cable, as well as wireless capacity for a couple of other notebooks (another WIndows 2000 and a powerbook).
When we bought the iBook a concern was that it would work okay with the Windows network. The internet connection and file sharing is working fine, but we still can't print.
After talking with various support people at Apple and HP, we were assured that there was no way to print through the Windows computers, and that the best option was to get either a print server, or preferably a router with a printer port. Furthermore, they said the 5900 series doesn't work through the network at all, and can only be connected directly to the mac. So our only bet was the other printer, an old reliable Laserjet 4L.
So I invested time and money in a SMC Barricade router with a parallel connection for the Laserjet 4L. (It predates USB) This is daisy-chained to the Linksys router. via a crossover patch cord going from LAN to LAN port on the 2 routers. The iBook is now connected to the new SMC router, and the 2 Windows 2000 desktops to the Linksys, and everything talks to everything else, the 2 Windows computers print fine through the router, but I still can't figure how to set up the printer on the mac. I installed Gimp-Print, which has a driver for the 4L, but can't figure out how to get to the printer. The SMC people told me to put in the IP address of the router, which worked for the Windows computers. However, when I tried typing that address on the iBook as HP IP Printing, which seems the best option, it just says Not Found.
I talked to Apple again, and this time they told me I'm up **** creek bacause it's a parallel printer and they are no longer supported. Period. But he said I could try this forum, and if anyone could help me it would be you, gentle readers.
Anyone have any suggestions at all?
iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Windows network user

Success! I updated the OS X from 4.4 to 4.5, but the Printer Browser window looked the same. It took a support person to tell me the obvious, that I had to press the little oval button on the top right to expand the window. I then tried installing with CUPS+Gimp-Print, and default queue, but when I tried to print, the print queue stopped itself. I deleted that, and reinstalled, using Foomatic/hpijs, and the LP queue, and that is working fine! So I don't know if the problem was the driver, or, more likely, that the default queue wasn't found.
As for the DeskJet5940, I am now using a Deskjet5850 foomatic/hpijs driver, and so far it is working too. I was able to print a web page with some graphics. I imagine the printer model is too new to have a 3rd party driver yet--maybe one will come out in a while.
But the embarassment of driver riches has given me a new, much less urgent question. I now have 3 drivers available for the LaserJet 4L, the CUPS+Gimp-Print, the vanilla Gimp-Print (both v5.0.0-beta2), and the Foomatic/hpijs. Does anyone have an opinion about which of these is more likely to work well? Does my particular setup (printer attached to parallel port of the router) make any difference?

  • Can't print .pdf files on windows network printer

    Hi,
I cannot print .pdf files on Canon IRC printer with UFR II 2.23 or 2.24 drivers connected through a windows network by LDP protocol, either with Apple Preview or Acrobat Reader - looks like the software doesn't find the printer (I have the rainbow whell and the software does not answer). It can last for hours, there is no other solution than forcing the soft to quit and finding another way to print. I have updated Canon drivers from 2.23 to 2.24 (all supposed to work with Lion) and that does not fix the problem.
This problem does not happen with Ms Word or Safari (or, more generally, other types of files) and it worked fine with Snow Leo even with pdf!! I also have windows XP with Parallels and guess what? I can print through Parallels with Acrobat Reader (for windows XP) on the same printer on which I cannot print with my Mac with Lion and Preview or Acrobat Reader for Mac!
    Please help !!
    Alexis

    Correction
It works with Acrobat but the printer does not like queues of documents...

  • Mac OSX Lion Server Network User Login Issue

We have in the office a server running Mac OSX Lion, and several network users who've all been running happily for quite a will.
About a month ago I was added to the system, and initially we had a few issues relating to the home directory, but we changed 'something' and it all worked.
Fast forward to now, and we've added a new user - Hannah - to our system.
I've added her in the Workgroup Manager, and set her up everywhere I can find on the server. Her home directory creates on the server fine.
She appears in the Logon list on the client machines, and here's where the trouble starts...
Every time she tries to log on, it fails. The logon box just bounces or wobbles as though the password is incorrect. We've tried changing the password, to no avail. We've tried adding new test users - same problem.
We've tried sudo kinet on the Terminal as a local user, with variable results.
I'm at my wits end, and really hoping someone here can help offer some suggestions or advice we can work through to get to the bottom of this.
    Thanks in advance!

Your problems are likely occurring because you added her to the directory with Workgroup Manager.
You should really start avoiding WGM when at all possible as Apple is clearly moving away from it. Because of this, things don't always work as expected when using 'legacy' tools like WGM.
My guess as to what your problem is: When you create a new user in Server.app, two things happen for you automatically that WILL NOT HAPPEN if done from WGM.
First the user is added to the default "Workgroup" group.
More importantly (and the source of much confusion), the user is automatically added to SACLs.
Check the SACL for the user in Server.app, I bet you'll notice that they aren't a member of the File Sharing group like they should be. To solve this problem, you can either delete the user and recreate them in Server.app, or manually add them to the appropriate SACL.
I would opt for recreating them in Server.app if I were you, as I don't trust user accounts that originate in WGM on Lion Server.

  • Print to windows networked printer

I am somewhat new to Mac and wondered if someone might be able to help out.
At work, I am trying to connect to a network printer/copier on a windows machine. I can locate the printer fine, but whenever I try to print to it, it simply prints 7-8 pages of random characters or code with some blank pages mixed into it. Is this a driver issue? The printer/copier is a Konica Minolta 7145. The printer selection now says "General postscript printer." Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Are you using Bonjour on the Mac and the PC?
    That should fix it.

  • Cannot print to a Windows network printer

    Hey guys,
This is my first post here, so hello to all the users here and most of all to ones that are willing to help me out
I have bought an iMac G5 (PowerPC not MacIntel) and upgraded to 10.4.6 (I plan to update it to 10.4.8) for all the bugfixes etc.
I have connected my Mac to a Windows Domain successfuly and have also installed a network printer (Kyocera FS 1750) too, without any problems.
The thing is that when I try to print using Mail or Safari, or AppleWorks or even Microsoft Office for Mac the Print window pops up but when I try to print pushing the Print button nothing happens. The print window stays there and it doesn't print anything. I have the print logs opened while I try to print so I can see if there is any error, but it doesn't write anything in the log because it doesn't even try to print!
There is a giant BUT however! While it doesn't print using the applications I mentioned above it does print using iPhoto or Preview applications... What is going on here guys? I tried using other drivers but still nothing, the problem remains.
Anyone has a solution? Sorry for my Grammar, English are not my native language so bear with me

  • Any expert OSX on Windows network people out there?

I'm in desperate need of help. My company is all Windows and I have the only mac (yeah, i'm the marketing/design guy). I'm running OSX, latest-greatest with all of the updates on a Windows network. IT just upgrader their servers and eversince then I have had all kinds of problems. The network is super slow on the Mac but the PC in my office is not affected that much. I sometimes lose network conection on the Mac all together and have to manually GO get the servers again. On big pain is that I can send email (using Mac Mail) inside the company but I can't send anything outside. I have to use webmail for that.
Oddly, the PC was also affected. Some network speed was restored using manual IPs but get this... Photoshop will not save to the server from the PC. It does fine on the Mac apart from the ultra slow server response but on the PC I have to save files to the local HD then move them to the server manualy.
My IT network guy is no help. He is threatening to pull my mac and his only solution for the PC was to wipe it clean and re-install everything. He just took the PC today so I don't know if it is going to work or not (I have my doubts) and it's going to cause me productivity problems.
I haven't been able to find anything on Apple's or Microsoft's site that seems related. (SHAME on Apple for having les info on mac intigration to Windows networks than Microsoft BTW)
    Here's the network set up:
OS > Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (Completely Patched with all updates as of 12-06-06)
Mail > Exchange 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 2
All servers have Duel 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon Processors
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mike!
Up front I don't think you'll resolve all your answers without a Mac/Windows consultant. You've got too many variables in the mix for someone to be able to comprehensively answer all your questions plus you're possibly going to need some assistance from your IT guys because some things may be out of your control. A consultant would be able to speak Tech-ese for you.
With that said, here are some ideas...
    1. For network speed issues, ask your IT guys if your network switch port has been forced to a particular speed/duplex or if it is set to Auto. Macs hate to be forced. You want Auto.
    2. I suggest using Microsoft Entourage 2004 over Apple's Mail application. Mail is using IMAP and SMTP to connect to your Exchange server. Entourage uses WebDAV, which allows you to take advantage of calendaring and public folders too. You've got webmail access, which means Entourage should work for you. Enterprise licensing for Exchange includes Entourage. Or if you have Office for Mac then Entourage is included.
    3. I suggest not using Mac OS X's built-in SMB client. It's clunky and doesn't play well with Windows servers for regular use. Invest in Dave or ADMitMac from http://www.thursby.com. It may very well help you with multiple network issues. A trial version is available for you to evaluate it first.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Mac book air os x lion windows network connection keep getting locked out

hello, I have an end user with a mac air, running os x lion. I attached him to a network share on the windows network active directory on server 2008. he is the only one that when he clicks on the network share it locks him out. I check a/d and he is locked out each time. Is there a fix for this. other computer specs are processor 1.7 ghz intel core i5 4gigs memory. this should be an easy fix for such a robust machine.

    Hey,
yes I did get to the bottom of this problem!!!. After spending some time on the phone with apple support they suggested that it was probably a problem with the hardware on my macbook air.
So I took this to an apple shop they had a look and it was infact a problem with the logic board. Not sure what was wrong specifically but they replaced it and then reinstalled OS for me and now works perfectly. All came under the warrenty obviously.
I had a look at your thread and it seems that your having the same problem, only thing i can suggest is ring support if you havnt done so already they will go through recovery with you, should be all free if you have just bought your new mac. Alternatively, to save time I would quickly check and download via a different internet connection/ try connect your mac to the router with an ethernet cable, just to see wether its an internet issue.
If this fails unfortunately you will most likely have to take it to an apple store to get them to take a look!.
    Good luck
    A

  • My Windows network printer continues to show as being paused, how do i fix this

I have had my MacBook Pro since July and it has worked like a "PRO". But a week ago the printer on my Windows Network begin showing up as "paused" when I tried to print to it, and it will not "come off of paused" no matter what I try. I have added nothing or changed nothing since I began using both the printer or the laptop back in July.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened or how to fix this? I have already uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it but it quickly returns to showing up as paused.

Extras --> Folder Options or File --> Oganize depending on whether or not you hide the menu in Windows Explorer, then pick the File Associations tab.
