OSX Lion with Secondary Display

Hi  Just upgraded my old macbook to OSX Lion.  The display is bad on the laptop, but I keep it hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI.   Once I upgraded, I can no longer get a desktop to switch to the secondary monitor using the F7 key.  All I get is a blank grey screen.  What do I do?

I don't have a second monitor connected now. But, be sure you select the "mirror" or perhaps, "mirroring" option in System Preferences > Displays.

I wanna reinstall Mac OSx lion on MacBook pro, my problem is I dint purchase OSx lion with my apple Id before.so anybody can tell me how to purchase OSx with my apple Id on MacBook

Nope. You can purchase a Snow Leopard DVD for $29.00 through an Apple retailer or ordering from AppleCare:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.

  • What is the best N.A.S non-mirrored storage that will work on osx lion with a time-capsule

Recently bought a 4TB external network non-mirrored drive. Specifically D-Link DNS-325 2-bay sharecenter NAS because my Itune library was reaching 1.8TB. After buying and installing can't bring it all online. System sees it but won't connect and after lookin' around  online it seems if your using OSX Lion with a Time-capsule it won't connect. Does anybody know if this for sure, is not posible?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Apparently the NAS will work with Lion just not with the Time-Capsule as well. As this is my router this should be the forum. If you don't then if you could forward it to the appropriate one i'd appreciate it.

  • I did'nt recieve the DVD of OSX Lion with my IMac. Is it normal? Can I engrave it from my computer?

When I recieve my IMac I realised that there was no DVD of OSX Lion with it. But I've Hearf that I needed it if I wanted to install a windows by BootCamp
Maby I can engrave it on a DVD from my computer but I realy don't where is it and I'd reall like to know if it's normal not to have recieve this DVD with my IMac

Lion does not come on a DVD. There are various ways to create a backup and you can buy a USB thumb drive with the installer. I can't help with needing a DVD to install Bootcamp/Windows since I do not run Windows.

  • Can you install osx lion with thumb drive from 10.6.3

can you install osx lion with thumb drive from 10.6.3

No. You can install Snow Leopard with a flash drive 10.6.3 installer. However, for Lion you must start with 10.6.8 in order to access the App Store to purchase and download Lion.

  • With Boot Camp, should I install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium edition) OR the 32 bit version when installing onto an early 2008 Mac Pro operating OSX Lion with a 1 TByte internal HDD?

With an early 2008 Mac Pro I'm about to add a second internal drive (1 TByte SATA) and initially install OSX Lion onto the new drive.  Then to partition this new HDD via Boot camp.  But my question is whether I am best advised to purchase the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) or the 32 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) for the Windows sector of the disk  What are the differences, and will I notice a difference in performance?

In chart from wiki, (scroll down to "Comparison chart") check the maximum CPUs supported.
You don't see this on MSoft's 1st searched for chart hit. This is one reason you will regret not paying for Professional+ if you get Home Premium 64 as I did for Mac Pro early 2008.
Home Prem Task Mgr sees 4 processors vs. the 8 that are seen by Pro+.
Costs more than a Mac upgrade to Lion if you make that mistake.

  • Links Not Working With Secondary Display

I have several website links in my presentation. When I am in presentation mode on my MacBook Pro and click a link, it opens up in Safari. All fine. However, if I hook up a secondary display not in Mirror Mode, so that my presenter screen/notes are on my MacBook Pro and the presentation is actually running on the secondary display - and I then mouse to the secondary display and click one of the web links, they do not open in Safari. Nothing happens.
Is this the correct behaviour? I would have though the links would still open in Safari?
Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Upon further investigation, I found that deselecting the preference "Allow Expose, Dashboard and others to use screen" allows the links to work again. Of course, the problem now is that when I return to Keynote after clicking a link, my slide builds have all been reset which is not good. Am I stuck with one problem or the other?!
    Thanks,
    Mike

Oh, well, it just randomly started working. Nevermind! Please

  • OSX Lion with ALUA support actually broke more than it fixed for us

    Hi
As you guys know Apple introduced ALUA in to Lion and when they bumped up the specs of Xsan. Most people seems to be really happy about this but in our case it actually broke more than it fixed. With our ATTO Celerity ES41 and LSI quad channel fibre cards we only see half of our LUNs. The explanation I got from the ATTO support was:
"The problem with this is that we don't really support connectivity to the LSI Netapp Engenio arrays with Multipathing on Lion with the 4Gb cards. Only the 8Gb cards are supported. The problem is we no longer can control this in Lion. In Snow leopard, there is an nvram switch to disable MPIO...In Lion, we can not do this due to Apple implementing ALUA in the OS itself. Our standard driver hooks into ALUA, and the MP Driver hooks into our own MP subsystem."
So the ATTO cards are out of the picture and ATTO wont come up with a fix. The jury is still out over at LSI and I*m waiting to hear back from them. But what I wonder is exaclty what it was that went wrong when Apple "fixed" this...? Is there a "legacy" mode that I can switch over to in some way? We can't replace all our fibre cards over this, that would be redicilous.
    Cheers and thanks in advance

  • OS X Lion with multiple displays/monitors?

As you've problably figured out by now, the answer is no. Fullscreen applications like Mail, Safari, and even Quicktime are sadly a dud with multiple monitors. With Mail and Safari, you end up getting the knit grey background like in Mission Control.
Here's my problem. In Snow Leopard, I used to be able to run a fullscreen movie in Quicktime on my TV monitor. It would run in the background while I was doing other stuff, still playing the movie in fullscreen. Now, with Lion, I can't do that. Due to the 'upgraded' fullscreen function on Quicktime, whenever I try watching a movie in fullscreen on my other monitor, the window moves to my main monitor and the other monitor goes black.
There probably isn't an instant fix for this, but please Apple, give your multi-display customers some love and let us have the ability to use seperate spaces and fullscreen applications on other monitors. It's hard to overlook this.

This is the single reason why I am still using Snow Leopard on my iMac which has two additional displays connected to its ThunderBolt ports.
I didn't buy monitors to display fake grey linen.  The real linen is cheaper.
Please provide feedback on this design decision via -http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
I'm hoping that if enough pressure is built up, they'll add an option:-
"Allow me to use my external displays = Yes/No"
I use Aperture, and here is what it looks like under Snow Leopard
When running Lion, the left and right screens look like this

  • Has anyone successfully used OSX Lion with Logic 8, a Digi002 and Digidesign's Coreaudio?  Need to know for iCloud update.

I need to upgrade to Lion for iCloud and to shift my mobile me iDisk to iCloud in order to save the content I have and need to share.
Anyone using Logic 8 with this?  I want to be sure, as I can't afford to upgrade everthing just yet.
    Thanks

I can give a partial answer.
If you're installing Lion over the top of Snow Leopard Logic should be fine, it you're going to run a clean install of Lion, Logic 8 will not install but will run if you can copy it over from a working SL install.
Update: This thread has info on how to install Logic 8 on a clean install of Lion.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18270040#18270040
The other issue are Digi's Core Audio MIDI drivers, they don't seem to be Lion compatible yet so while you may have the audio part of the interface working with Lion, you have to remove the MIDI drivers or Logic chokes while booting up. (unless there are new drivers I don't know about) Perhaps others have more info on the Digi situation.

  • Installing WINDOWS - 7 WITH secondary display enabled from the time of installation

We have MINI ITX motherboard, This board supports multiple display option  VGA, LVDS..For this configuration we prefer only LVDS.
Currently, we are migrating from LINUX to WINDOWS,Initial installation process does not have any hicups.
However, when the installtion completes and ask for a reboot. The system by default switches to VGA and there is no display on lVDS.
For this we have to connect an VGA display and complete the rest of the installation and set "Duplicate Desktop on Projector" to get the LVDS back.
We definitely do not require any VGA interference during the installation process. Need some guidance fro enabling  /CLONE display mode from the time of installation.

    Hi,
Because of window doesn't embed LVDS driver, that's why LVDS device doesn't work during system installation. You do need to connect another VGA device to complete the installation.
Another considerable workaround method you can try is that build a Windows image that embed LVDS driver, then use this new image to install Windows 7.
On the other hand, you can try to install LVDS driver during WinPE phrase, put the driver on other drive or USB drive, then press SHIFT+F10, navigate to the location and install the driver for test. I do have no condition make a test for you, but you
can have a try by yourself.

  • Grafics problem on mac osx lion with intel hd

i have some grafics problems in some games like dragon age 2 or assassin's creed on my MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011). in dragon age 2  yellow and red effects became blue and green after the upgrade (like blood), and playing assassin's creed 2 is quite "impossible" because all characters, horses and so on, appear all green and red (but i have to mention that they games run faster since i upgraded to lion ). is there any sign of an update for intel hd grafics?

No, OpenGL Swap Buffer support (Level 1) support for the HP4000 is for Windows only. Level 2 and 3 support is not available either. You'd need a more powerful NVIDIA card for Level 1, 2, and 3 feature support.

  • My wordpress home page will not display any active information in Firefox 15 on Mac OSX Lion.

    Hey All,
I've tried many things to resolve this issue, but none of them seem to be working. For some time now I have not been able to see the homepage of wordpress.com with full information i.e. stats, notifications, etc. I'm running Firefox 15 on Mac OSX Lion with the following settings and add-ons. I've tried disabling the various privacy add-ons one-by-one to no avail. Please help!

The only active thing I see on that page is the banner near the top which keeps changing: "For the cat pictures", "For the poet", etc. Do you not see that? I did not see any link for "Home". Try these pages:
