OSX Mail - Sending JPG Attachments

I am having issues sending emails with JPGs attached. For some reason, they are being attached in-line and people are unable to download the attachments. Why is this?

The easiest to send jpg are to drag the image to the destop, then attach the iimage to a PDF, via Adobe, or pages. Select print, then select the image, and choose.
Most people use Adobe, and check windows friendly attachmennts.

  • Mail with jpg attachments not sending

I've tried repeatedly sending jpg photos in Mail, but they are never successfully sent.  The Send icon keeps spinning and spinning and never stops.  I end up having to go into the Outbox and deleting the message, then doing a Force Quit Mail before I can reopen Mail.  This is something new since updating to Lion.

    Hmm  that sounds convenient.
Maybe try Attachment tamer, a Mail plug-in, and see if you can tweek a work around.  A few bugs in Mail.

  • Mail sends extra attachments - Can I stop this?

For some reason, Mail is sending extra attachments that Outlook users see whenever I actually include one or more attachments. This happens even if the attachment is at the end of the message. It also happens if I am sending plain or rich text. It does NOT happen when I don't send an attachment.
It puts the logo from my signature into 1 attachment, the text after that into another, and then a blank one. All of these attachments (except for the one with my logo) are named ATTXXXXX.TXT, where XXXXX is some numeric sequence.
This looks very unprofessional to an outlook user. How can I stop this?
    Thanks!!

    Hi Ohno,
I think this resolve the issue, and I only just stumbled on this rather hidden setting. Under the EDIT menu, select "Attachments" and then "Always insert attachments at end of message" from the pop-up list of options. Note: to make this setting apply to all new messages, do this when you do not already have a message composition window open.
The additional .txt file appears to get generated when Exchange/Outlook reads any additional characters (even a single blank space) after an attachment to an email message - anything after that point is converted to a .txt file and attached.
In my own testing, this toggle appears to have resolved the problem.

  • Sending jpg attachments to AOL subscribers

    HI all!
I'm consistently unable to send jpg pictures as attachments to friends with @aol.com email addresses. They tell me that the picture numbers come through but no picture. When I send the attachments (and verify in the "sent" box), the picture are definitely attached to the email. Friends not with AOL get things no problem.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Stephen Lewis3

Hi Allan, I hope toy don't mind me cc'ing a post I put up earliet - but saw this and could see that the problem is related: "This problem is going to really mess up my recent migration to Macintosh. I prepare a lot of documents in Word and Excel and am careful to append them with .doc and .xls before emailing them to clients and colleagues - all of who are Windows users. One colleague - a senior who calls the shots uses an AOL account and email. I have never had a problem sending .doc and .xls attachments to him but he is now saying that the .doc's and some of the .xls's are arriving as un-open-able .bin files. This is a real bugger. I have tried the 'send Windows friendly attachment' button in iMail but it makes no difference. I have looked at other posts which point the problem back to AOL - but Windows users do not have the problem. Is there a viable solution to this problem because my colleague absolutely will not ditch AOL".
I send email from iMail using plain text. The AOL recipient says he is now able to open .pdf (but the filename gets changed in transit) and .xls (no probs). He can open .doc by using the 'open with' command. The file name is shortened and the suffix is removed. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Sending jpg attachments in Mail to Windows 8

When I send a jpg attachment from my iMac 10.9.4 to a Windows 8 laptop the recipient sees only a square with an X in it. Is there something I need to do that will make it possible for them to see the jpg?

Make sure you send Windows-friendly attachments. To do so for all messages, from the main Mail window choose Edit > Attachments, then make sure Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments is selected. For a specific message, click the Attach button in the toolbar of the message window, then make sure Send Windows-Friendly Attachments is selected.
Also use filename extensions (such as document.jpg).
If the recipient sees two attachments (such as “MyFile” and “._MyFile”), the file with the underscore (such as “._MyFile”) can be ignored.

  • Mac OS X 10.7.3 mail doesn't send jpg attachments?

    First thing:
I can't send a jpeg attachment with Mail. It always arrives in th body of the text and the receiver can do nothing with it.
    Another thing:
Also when I want to forward an email, very often the attachments doesn't follow, or even the text of the email doesn't follow !
    That's not reliable.
    What can I do?

You need to upgrade to the current version of Adobe Reader 10.1.3. PPC applications are not supported in Lion.
If you also use Office then see:
Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Leopard mail.app jpg attachments not viewable

Some PDF and Jpg attachment are not viewable in the message and a blue cube with white question marks appear in both sending, sent and received emails. This is a new phenomenon which started last week.

I have solved the problem on my mac:
1- Save the attachment to the Desktop.
2- Press CMD+I in the file
3- Change the "Open With" option to another app.
4- Change the "Open With" option to the desired app (Preview to Imagens antd PDF's...)
    5- Choose "Change All"
    6- Press OK.
Now i can see the images and PDF's on my mail's body.

  • Trouble with Mail sending large attachments using iCloud

I am on an iMac running Lion 10.7.2 using Mail 5.1
My wife and I both have iCloud accounts.
I have been trying to send an email with three pdf files. The total size of all three files is 48.4 mb.
Other emails go out without any problem, but this one email will not go out.
I keep getting the following message:
Cannot send message using the server ...
I then try my wife's iCloud account and it does the same thing.
Can anyone help me figure this out? Is there a phone number or text support to actually talk to someone at apple?
    Thanks,
    Keith

The total size of all three files is 48.4 mb.
That's why. That maximum size of incoming and outgoing messages is 20MB:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4863
Email really isn't designed for transferring large files and all email providers have attachment size limits to avoid people clogging up their mail servers.
Use one of the many (free) large file transfer services instead.

  • JPG attachments sent to PC users

I had no problems sending .jpgs as attachments to PC users as recently as June 2006. More recently, whenever I send .jpg attachments to the same recipients, the photo is "embedded" in the message window with NO attachment icon for them to click on to save/open. The only way for them to save is to right click on the image and save as .bmp. I haven't changed the method for sending attachments; all extensions are there, I send Windows Friendly Attachments and I've read the many forum postings regarding work-around suggestions. Since this is a new development on my computer is it possible that an Apple Software upgrade is the culprit here? I've spoken via telephone with Apple Support to alert them to the problem but got no "fix". New suggestions are appreciated.

    Freddy,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
There is no update issue to explain this -- the
ability to send JPEGs to PC users is quite intact,
    and functioning.
Do you use a Signature with your emais? If so, have
you always used the same one?
    Ernie
Yes, I do use a simple text signature and No it hasn't changed since my account was established. Whenever I add an attachment, it is always after the signature. I appreciate all the replies/advice I've received on this topic. I have experimented extensively by emailing attachments in various ways to my home PC. A few things I've tried have resulted in the .jpg arriving as an attachment, in addition to seeing it in the body of the email. Looks like I just have to decide which is the most efficient one! Thanks to everyone out there who took the time to write back.

The error on your code might be:
    BodyPart messageBodyPart1=new MimeBodyPart();
    DataSource source1=new FileDataSource(filename1);
    messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source1));
    messageBodyPart.setFileName(filename1);
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart1);
You don't need to create a new BodyPart, and apart from that you'r seting values on "messageBodyPart" but adding "messageBodyPart1" to your multipart :P
Well see u and have a good one!
p.s. i know it's a little late from the day you posted, but at least it might help somebody else :D .

  • Mail not sending jpg/pdf files

You've probably all heard about this problem but does anyone have a fix?
When i send jpg or pdf files to windows computers they don't show up at the other end.
This problem is intermittent. If i'm sending mutliple files it sometimes send one but not others.
Clicking 'windows friendly attachments' does not work. It's already ticked.
    I'm using a Macbook pro 10.5.4 with Mail Version 3.3 (926.1/926)
Can anyone give me a definative anwser? Searching the wbe and these forums just throws up more unknowns!

Zipping files takes very little time, since it's built-in to OS X and available as a Contextual Menu item. Aside from that, your files are being received, even if your recipients don't know it. There is something about their mail client that blocks them from seeing them, but if they were to display the full headers of your email, all the images should indeed be there.
Entourage is no panacea, either; the same thing could happen with that program and your recipients. The only way to ensure that files are received as visible attachments is to archive them all and send that archive file.

  • Mail is squishing / squashing / distorting certain jpg attachments

Somehow my last post got marked as 'solved' by me, by accident.
Searched around and have seen this question in some form, but no answer. I have more/new details from my own trouble shooting
Mail is sometimes squashing or distorting certain .JPG attachments when sent to others. Not all the time, just sometimes. The best way to describe it is it turns them into not quite accurate thumbnails. Re-saved as a JPEG-2000 in preview fixes it, but then if I convert back to .JPG, same issue.
Doesn't work if file name is converted to .JPEG.
Restarting mail and computer doesn't help.
Doesn't happen with ALL .JPG's, just some. For the ones it happens to, it happens each time.
Oddly enough, when the .JPG is attached with a Word file, no issues at all. Doesn't matter if it's an image I'm having issues with prior.
I do not believe it's a Mac  or PC issue, as when I send it to my personal gmail account and access it there through Gmail's site, the image is distorted in the viewer and remains distorted when I open it up using preview on my mac. Oddly, the same messages forwarded back from Gmail using the web browser to Mac Mail do not have this issue.
Also while in Gmail, when you to to save the image, you have to right click it in the body of the text. The dropdown is now gone. Once you right click it, it prompts you to save it as 'unnamed.jpg.' wich is NOT what I'm sending.
    Here's what I'm running:
    OS 10.9.5
    iMac Mid 2011
    Mail 7.3
Mail is set to Plain Text for all messages.
    Any thoughts?

Sorry, I should note messages sent from gmail to Mac Mail do not have this issue.

  • Sending Photos as bmp or jpg attachments

I'm looking to find out how to send photos as jpg attachments, which is how I receive photos from other iphone users. However, when I sent a photo, it displays in-line in the email body. When it's received, trying to save it, the only option is a bmp file.

As with the Mail.app on a Mac, all photo attachments are displayed inline or viewed in place within the body of the message - for recieved and sent messages. Depending on the recipient's email client, the attachment will be displayed inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened, or as an attached file only which must be selected for the attachment to be opened and viewed. This does not affect or change the file type. The iPhone's Mail client cannot change an attached file type. If the attached file is a JPEG, it is sent as a JPEG.

  • Jpg attachments are missing on e-mails

Since I have installed Leopard, my jpg attachments are missing on some e-mails.
The picture is there, but the paperclip is missing
If I send a PDF file or any other file it is working ok

I have seen the same problem. Some times the jpg seems to be missing. What I have been doing is to save the jpg to the desk top. Even though I could not see it I knew it was there. The subject made reference to the attached picture or some such. As it will save it had to have been there some where. If I want to forward this e-mail I just reattach the jpg that I saved to the desk to. I tried just forwarding the e-mail but the jpg (attachment or whatever) did get transmitted.
