After updating to OSX Mavericks' my Mac is performing very slow. Particularly the Adobe suite (photoshop...) and MS word is performing extremely slow? And this iMac computer is only a couple of months old...

  • HT1338 clear disk of iMac as OSX upgrade has slowed the machine to the point it is practically inoperative

My machine asked to be switched off after OSX was installed. It then would not boot. I had an Apple approved technician come to my home and get the machine to at least boot. But it is so slow a 386 would be faster. Should I clear my disk? I have backed up the machine prior to the first download.

First backup to a storage drive using the emergency quick copy method, then disconnect the external drive, do NOT rely solely upon TimeMachine.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Next follow this procedure for reinstalling OS X 10.6, Security Zero Erase the entire drive in Disk Utility (important)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Update fully to 10.6.8 and exrtract your free iLife from your 10.5 disks or buy new from AppStore if needed.
Run the machine with no files returned for some time to rule out a hardware or file problem, then return copies of your files from backup and then make a TimeMachine and/or bootable clone drive.
Don't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 as that won't run your older software and slows older 10.5 era machines down quite a bit

Shut the power clear off, wait a minute or 2 and restart and see if that clears the problem.

  • Ios7 update has slowed the system... help !!!

Hi all... I was eagerly waiting to get my hands on the latest apple offering ios7 for my ipad 2... however post upgrade the excitement seems to be fading away... the UI has totally changed- looks pretty new but i guess it has started to take more RAM space and has slowed the processing.. safari doesn't seem to be working effectively as well... i have also tried to free some space by deleting some apps.. i don't even keep multiple apps running and lastly also tried a reboot.. but still no luck... can anyone please assist ??  Is apple coming with an update to faster the systems....appreciate your assistance...

    Try closing all inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe up on the screenshot of the app you want to exit.
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • I have had my mac-book pro for almost a year, and have just got OSX Mavericks, and now the sound on my laptop is working in a sporadic way, can I change this at all on system preferences or will I have to get it repaired?

On my mac-book pro the sound isnt working after I have installed OSX Mavericks, should I take it to be repaired, or can I do something on System Preferences?

In addition to checking system preferences/sound/output and selecting built in if that does not work, make sure volume is up and mute not checked.
You can try the following, Take a set of headphones and plug theim in and out several times (there is a micro switch that sometimes gets stuck)
Go to applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, see if you can select built in there, make sure volume is uo mute not checked.
    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
Power off, power back on holding the following keys   OPTION + COMMAND + P + R
Continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times, then release, reboot

  • Has anyone else found that OS 8.0 has slowed the opening of apps considerably?

I just downloaded the latest OS for my ipad and found that it slows the opening of apps and the opening of web pages considerably. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi there bitsko26,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

Installation of Yosemite 10.10.1 has severely slowed performance of my Mac Mini.  Tales a long time to start, and a very long time to start any apps.

Open Activity Monitor and kill this process - rapportd.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • OSX Mavericks - Where is the 'today' view in Finder?

Where has the 'Today' and 'Yesterday' view gone in Finder?

    Hi bobcatX,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The "Search For" option is not present in the Finder sidebar in Mavericks, but you can recreate the functionality by using Smart Folders. When you create a Smart Folder, you have the option to add it to the Finder sidebar.
To set it up, first create a Smart Folder:
In the Finder, choose File > New Smart Folder, or press Command (⌘)-Option-N.
Next, set the parameters of your search:
To search for additional specific attributes, click Add ( + ) below the search field. Search attribute pop-up menus appear.
The menus work in pairs; for example, to search for images, you would choose Kind from the pop-up menu on the left, and then choose Images from the pop-up menu next to it.
In this case, choose "Last modified date" from the pop-up menu on the left, and "Today" or "Yesterday" from the pop-up menu next to it.
    Lastly, save the search:
Click Save, and specify a name and location for your Smart Folder. If you do not want your Smart Folder to be in the sidebar, deselect Add To Sidebar.
You can do many things with Smart Folders, so check out this article for more tips:

  • Help!  Mavericks has slowed my mac to a crawl

I had snow leopard. I feel like I should have just let it alone. My mom who has a mac told me how much I would like it . My printer was no longer working and apparently things werent as compatible.
I downloaded it and now my machine runs like molasses...especially safari. I have no idea what to do.
I would love some help but please don't tell me to configure the reflux capicator or index spotlight.. I don't understand it. Please explain like I am a child and give me step by step instructions to try..lol
    Thank you!!

You want and need help with your Mac issues, but you know very little about Macs
It's really, REALLY hard to help a user, in these types of support forums, who has very limited technical knowledge of Apple computers, software and devices.
Remember, we are not there with you in front of your computer to help and explain things as we go.
Somebody here will try to help you,
In the meantime, may I suggest looking at this section of Apple's website so you can start learnng more about Apple hardware, software/OS X terminology, usages, apps and functionality and how your Mac works.
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/
It is possible the Spotlight search app is indexing your Mac's hard drive. To see if this is happening, look to the main OS X menu bar to the right for Spotlight's magnifying glass symbol. If it has dot in the middle of the symbol, Spotlight is indexing your Mac's hard drive and this may take awhile.
To help us troubleshoot any other Mac issues you may have, download, install and run an app called Etrecheck.

Copy/paste its report/results in another thread reply here so we have all of your Mac system's information.

  • OSX Mavericks (new 3.1 Core i7 iMac) crashes on logout and goes to a blank white screen.... arrghhh

Just started happending after updating to Maverick
Works fine but if left unattended for 1 hour and you logout of current user on the top right hand side near spotlight, you can't login with a new user, the screen crashed to a bank white screen....
    Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem, and connected it to a posted software problem related to hard disks from Westeren Digital. I uninstalled alle the software from Western Digital. The disk still works as normal, and the logout problem disappeared. It is a software problem that will probably be fixed by WD and/or Apple soon, but until then you may uinstall it temporarily. Or permanently, I do not need that extra WD software anyway.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 update has slowed down my iMac and Macbook. Anyone else have this problem?

My iMac and Macbook were operating well until the Yosemite 10.10.2 update. Now, the wheel spins when I try to scroll down on pages, or when I try to move from screen to screen. Programs freeze up more often, needing to be forced to quit, or just crash altogether. Safari has been particularly affected. Both computers are only 6 months old. I close all other programs and Safari tabs, but this does not help.
(iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; specs on Macbook not handy as I post this.)
I have come to dread OS X updates and I'll be careful about downloading them in the future.  I am becoming more and more disappointed in Apple as a whole. The last time I called Applecare for help was pointless. I learn more from forums like this.

  • After system reorg the access to tabel WLK1 has slowed down tremendously

    Hi,
Abap here, looking for basis help!
    SAP Basis 620
    SAP_APPL 470
Our basis guys ran a system reorg on the production system which has affected the performance of a program. I have tracked this down to a particular table (WLK1) which seems to have indexing problems. Even when doing SE16 and getting table entries there is a performance issue.
On the QA system the table exists with approximately the same amount of entries, i.e. 31 million, and exactly the same indexes, as Production. Yet running SE16 in QA takes less than 2 minutes to return data, whereas the Prod system takes 20 minutes.
Any ideas or assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Warren.

    Hello Warren,
why does your basis guy not reorg the QA system at first to find performance impacts?
But ok.. if the sql statement is exactly the same in PR and QA, we need some more informations.
    1) Which oracle database version (could be find over the system status)
    2) We need the execution plan of the sql statement in PR and QA
    3) Has your basis admin collect new table/index statistics after the reorg?
    4) Does the table include LOB fields (maybe he made a LOB migration with the reorg)
But the important questions is the 1 - 3.
You can find the execution plan by running the SE16 and running the transaction ST04 parallel.
ST04 => Detail analysis menu => Oracle Sessions => Search your session and click the execution plan button => expand the statistic "menu" and check when the latest statistics were collected.
    Regards

  • Mavericks running slow

    I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 17", 2.2 GHz i7, 16gb RAM, and I have installed Mavericks OS.
After the upgrade, I find that my Mac is running pretty sluggish and slow, definitely not your typical Apple product. While view my photos through Finder, I find that each photo I select in sequence, the preview is getting slower and slower to open. And, eventually, when I select another folder in Finder, Finder will lock up for a few seconds to at least a minute (maybe even longer) and I get the little rainbow wheel (rollie pollie). And this has been getting worse every day.
I went to the disk utility (command-r) and performed a disk repair, and there were several issues that it repaired, but it didn't make any difference when I went back to view my photos. I ran EtreCheck and it gave me this:

Not sure of what the problem could be, third-party software, or something else. I am thinking about doing a clean install, (i.e, erasing HD and re-installing Mavericks) but I would totally hate to do that since it will take all day to back-up my stuff and than do the re-install. (BTW, what format should I chose when I erase my HD?!?)
Any and all help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

The official name for the rollie pollie is the SBBOD (the spinning beach ball of death).
I don't see a lot that is suspicious from the EtreCheck report, except for
    [failed] [email protected]list
I would suspect that the problem is either that or with one or another of the third party items you have.
The trouble with just doing a clean reinstall, is that you don't know what is causing the problem, and if it's one of those third party items you could just be reinstalling the problem again.
    Here's what I'd try:
I'd try and find that .plist file and delete it. It wasn't on my mac so it sounds like it's from something you've installed. Mavericks has changed the way .plist files are handled and some of them are cached. Usually if there'a a plist file problem you can just delete it and restart and a new, uncorrupted plist file is generated; but this is not the case any more. I've been looking for answers for this and so far I have not found any definitive answers for this general problem (errant .plist removal).
a safe boot would confirm your suspicions about a third party app causing the problem. Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
then trial and error to find the one causing the problem.
before a clean reinstall, I'd just try a reinstallation over your current install, which can often fix the problem.
