OSX ML Safari 6 cannot open https sites

Using OS X ML with Safari 6 I am no longer able to access certain https sites. While loading the page I am asked for a client certificate which does not exist. I hit cancel but the site never loads and we have just a blank page.
Any ideas?

I have Block Cookie from third parties and advertisrs. I also just cleared all website data and even reset safari several times.
Thank you for the suggestion. Any other ideas are appreciated.
It might be worth noting that this happens with Chrome and Firefox as well but if I click on cancel after it asks for the client certificate the page will load si feel this is something with the SSL stack within the OS

  • Safari Will Not Open Https sites

Safari will not open any https sites. When attempted, I get the following type of error:
    Safari can’t open the page “https://support.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/. . . . . . . . because it could not connect to the server “support.apple.com”.
The problem started happening about three weeks ago, probably after one of Apple's updates. I can log on to the same https sites using any other browser. The problem also exists no matter what user I am logged into, including root.
I have emptied the cache, reset Safari, repaired permissions, repaired the disk using Disk utlility, run ToolTech Pro on the drive, tossed preferences, tossed various keychange files, but nothing solves the problem. There are other posts claiming to have the same problem, but the suggested fix does not work for me.
    Any tips would be appreciated.
Power Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I also had this problem and solved it. I use Little
Snitch which establishes rules for blocking ports to
see when applications phone home. For Safari I
accidently blocked port 443 which is SSL or https.
Check to see that you have not blocked this port
through a firewall setting. Of course if this were a
firewall setting all browsers would not be able to
    access https websites.
****, I thought I thought of everything, but I completely failed to consider Little Snitch, as I could never see myself accidently denying Safari connections. However, apparently I did just that. Thank you, you win the prize.

  • Safari can't open https site

    I am using Safari Version 5.0.2 (6533.18.5)
Mac OS X 10.6.4 on an iMac.
Had no problem going to website https://www.usaa.com prior to today, but today when I try to access the website I get the message that Safari can't find the server. All other websites can be accessed normally. I got on my wife's Mac laptop and using Firefox tried to access https://www.usaa.com. Her computer also cannot locate the server. I called USAA.com and they said their website is operating normally. I removed the pop-up-ad blocker and restarted. Still couldn't access the https:. Repaired Disk Permissions and still no joy on the website. I have no Firewalls. Any suggestions? My next attempt will be to enter TimeMachine and try to reset Safari to a day or two ago and see if that works.

    Carolyn,
I Selected SHOW COOKIES and could not fine any for usaa.com
    Tried EMPTYING CACHE
Did SYST PREF/NETWORK - Advanced Tab and then Proxies Tab (none of the boxes were selected/configured)
Don't have any Anti-Virus program installed
Checked Parental Controls in SYST PREF and no controld/blocks were set
Depowered/RESET my DSL router and then my AIRPORT
Also, entered TimeMachine and reset Safari to 3 October when I know it was working well
    Uninstalled Yahoo BrowserPlus V2.9.2
    RESTARTED computer
Checked SOFTWARE UPDATE and found a Secutity Update andJava for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3 were not installed. Installed the update and restarted the computer.
After all of the above, still could not access www.usaa.com (Safari could not find the site) Really is a puzzle. Have had a Mac for 25plus years and never had a problem like this.
I am going to try bypassing Airport and plugging the Ethernet cable directly into my computer and see perhaps Airport is the problem. Will let you know the results shortly.
    Many thanks for your suggestions

  • Why won't safari open https sites?

I'm having difficulty opening https sites in Safari (I'm using version 7.0.4). Some sites just won't open at all, others open but don't load all images. I've tried resetting my router, resetting safari, clearing history etc. but nothing has helped so far. Can anyone help?

    Ok ..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Cannot acees HTTPS sites in Internet Explorer - Windows 10

In Build 9860 : We cannot access HTTPS sites in Internet Explorer ; unless we put it as a TRUSTED SITE.
A similar issue has existed in Windows 8 and a patch was issued.
I think the same issue has now come back in Windows 10.
    Please fix this. Thank you.

Well, please try this link in your internet explorer of Windows 10.
    https://itldrive.infosys.com/infosys/webview/xythoslogin.action
It doesn't open unless you put it as a trusted site.
However, in Firefox (or IE in Windows 8 or 7)  it may open without any issue.

  • With OSX 10.8.5 cannot open PDF files with 11.0.04?

using OSX 10.8.5 cannot open PDF files from Xerox Docushare with recently downloaded PDF 11.0.04

That crash is a known bug in Apple's display code.
But it's the QuickDraw code, which Apple does not want to fix.
There is nothing we can do about that OS bug, other than to suggest using a more recent version of Photoshop written to the Cocoa APIs.

  • Unable to open https sites. can open when using firefox in safe mode.

Mozilla Firefox has been an exceptional browser, however in the last update I have experienced problems when trying to open https sites. They will not open and then time out. I do not have this problem when using Internet explorer. I have contacted customer service at the problem sites, and they have said other customers have also experienced this problem. I have gone into options and have changed various settings to see if this would solve the problem. It didn't, your response would be appreciated.. Please note if I use firefox in safe mode I can access these sites? My E-mail as follows: [email protected]

Did you perhaps install an extension to open sites with https
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press "Enter"
    # Use Find ("Ctrl+F") to look for '''https'''
    One such extension is "HTTPS-Everywhere"
As you probably know Firefox Safe Mode disables extensions and some preferences.

  • Safari wont load any HTTPS sites

    Hey,
For some reason Safari has stopped letting me open any https sites. I am using a new internet connection at my new apartment, but I think everything else has stayed the same. HTTPS sites open fine in Firefox and Explorer. I tried emptying my cache and resetting Safari to no avail. Also just upgraded to 2.0.1. Anything else I can try?
    TIA,
    Chris

What seems forever since 10.5, after a couple of click throughs Safari stops following links. Eventually I get a 'page not found' message. I went to the macosxhints.com page as described, deleted the Safari preferences file but still have the same results. I have done all of the other usual things, reinstall, etc, but to no avail. Any additional suggestions?

  • Safari can't open https

    Hi,
I need to acces several https cites, but the problem is that safari can't do this.
I'm using the latest version of safari 5.0.1, there are no extension installed (except for Adblock), MacOs 10.5.8
I'm connected to the interned via wi-fi router, and I've got no chance plugging directly to the internet without router.
The problem is, that when I only connected to the internet using router safari did open https cite, but after may be two hours and till present refuses.
I tried reseting safari, clearing its cache, repairing permissions and restarting my mac - but it's still the same.
    any help will be appreciated

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions...
It's AdBlock that causing the problem. Go to Safari / Preferences - AdBlock and click Uninstall.
    Restart your Mac.
You should be able to access https sites again.
If you want a better ad blocker get Glimmer Blocker for v10.5 and up.

  • Safari can't open a site-connection to server error-help,

Hi, having problems opening one page. "Read", one page only. All other sites open fine. When I try to connect to this site I get the error:
Safari can’t open the page “http://offres.neuf.fr/offres/internet/Nos-offres-ADSL.html?cmp=OF100” because it could not connect to the server “offres.neuf.fr”.
I used to be able to open this page fine. I tried it on another computer, no problem, and a response in another very long link indicated "he" could open it fine. Anybody have an idea why this page is being so stubborn and giving me this error? Thanks. Hope to hear a fix.

What will happen if I empty the cache and clear the history in Safari?
Will I lose all the info stored when I visit sites, and have to retype?
NO, You will not lose your Autofill preferences ( found in Safari's Preferences/Auto fill tab ) they are not affected if you empty cache and clear history.
"Reset Safari" would affect the user name & passwords stored in Autofill.

Matthew, your welcome; ), is this the only site you can not access?
Please try the site In another account. If you do not have another account please create a test account:
Go to System Preferences/ Accounts/Login Options use the [+] to make one. you can later remove it with the [-] if you choose to.
Login into that account can you access the site there?
This helps to narrow down the problem, by showing us if it is a system wide issue or user name specific.

  • Only able to open HTTPS sites on my Mac

    Hi -
I am only able to open HTTPS websites on my FF (17.0.8) and Safari(6.0.5). None of the HTTP sites are opeing in these broswers.
Things I followed to troubleshoot this problem..
    I have Installed/Uninstalled FF & Java
    Clear firewall setting
    Rebuild Network Configuration
    Created New User
    ****Booting in Safe Mode
Note***: In Safe Mode my issue was resolved. I was able to access HTTP Sites in Safe Mode and it worked even after rebooting. But when I rebooted my machine for the second time it again stopped accessing HTTP Sites.
    Please Help.
    Kind Regards,
    Susheel

Try checking your host files they may be set up wrong.
The file is in /etc/hosts, I recommend opening by either opening a terminal and typing 'nano /etc/hosts' or using the program TextWrangler downloaded from the website, not the App store.
There should only be a few lines, the ones that start with # are comments, ignore them. Then there should be 4 lines probably 127...,255...,::1..., and some random numbers. Delete anything else.

But in 32.0a2 Working - Ok

Actually this is the Aurora development channel as Nightly currently has 34.0a1 active on it. Note that both Aurora and Nightly channels gets checkins almost everyday so therefore they get a update each of those days which can sometimes have regressions or issues that may get fixed or reverted the next day.
