OSX Mountain Lion Server - how do you uninstall this including services

Hi All,
Sorry if the question has been asked before.
I have Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and installed OSX Mountain Lion Server (2.2.2) and run into a couple of issues after installed successfully.
* I no longer can add users and groups.
* Open Directory fails to connect.
So I read some forums and uninstalled the server by trashing it, deleting /Libaray/Server, empty trash and reboot. But when I reinstalled the server it renabled all the services that I had previously and still not able to add users and groups. Open Directory fails to connect "not able to load replica" So I try to create a new OD and get an error the server is already a Network Server.
So basicaly I want to start from scratch and need some assistance how to get rid of OSX Server.
Thanks
Sahid

Wipe the disk, and reinstall OS X.  (Not fun, of course.  I just created a bootable USB disk for this purpose, and nuked an errant server configuration.  A "target practice" server used for testing purposes had gone awry, and needed to be wholly reset.  So I know what you're going through.  Visit here or here for some instructions.)
FWIW, usual trigger for problems with OS X Server on a NAT'd network is bad DNS.  That step gets skipped, or folks think they can refer to ISP or off-LAN DNS servers, and problems ensue.  OS X Server needs LAN-local DNS when NAT is in use.

I have Calendar alerts on every device [Mac/iPad/iPhone] after installing Mountain Lion. How do I stop this? Tech support acted like I was the first person this happened to. Anyone have the solution?

Well, whichever device you uncheck = exclude from calendars (and reminders) via iCloud will be excluded as both, receiver and sender. It's an "all or nothing", I guess. Otherwise it'd get more complicated, and the support calls could easily fill an extra forum...
@lmp68: don't think iTunes is it, in the days of iCloud that would sure take quite an extra effort, if possible at all.

  • I have installed OSX server but I want to go back to Mountain Lion. How do I do this?

Can some one tell my how to remove OSX Server completely and return my system to the stand alone instalation of OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1, please?

OSX Server for Mountain Lion is just an additional service.
For installing it, you moved "Server.app" in your Application folder and then run it.
For removing it you get some software like "AppCleaner".
    You can download it HERE.
All you do now, move the "Server.app" to the "AppCleaner".
AppCleaner will list now all the files and folders that Server.app installed.
Restart your computer after you're done. There are most likely additional folder and configurations
but the main 'server' part should be gone. For everything else, look there:

  • Set Up Proxy Server on OSX Mountain Lion Server.app

    Hi,
Can anyone help me on how to set up a proxy server or forward proxy on OS X Mountain Lion Server.app? without using Squid
a step by step instruction would be helpfull
    Thank you
    Regards

There is no way to set up a proxy server in Server.app. For generic instructions, see, for example, this:

  • Is OSX Mountain Lion Server Compatible with Snow Leopard

Is Mountain Lion Server compatible with Clients running on Snow Leopard?

We haven't had any problems with Home Directories hosted on 10.8.2 on a small number ol 10.6 clients. The only issue is that you can't use Workgroup Manager 10.8 on the 10.6 machines to allow 10.6-only apps. If you have a mixture of 10.6, 10.8 or 10.7 clients the user's prefs for things like Mail get screwy due to the different schema.

  • Not sure if Mavericks is worth the effort of downloading and I prefer mountain lion.  How do you make a file in Finder.

I am not sure if Mavericks is much better than Mountain Lion as an OS.  The maps part was okay but I could not view the map as shown on the apple website, there was no 3D.  How do you create a file in Finder on the MacBook Pro.?

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!!!!!  YOU DID IT!  I cannot believe it!
I changed "Move To Trash" to "Move to Trash" and selected a file.  I had lost all hope, so I took a minute to prepare myself for yet another moment of deep frustration.  Then I pressed F10, and bang! the file was trashed!!!  It took me a couple minutes to actually believe what just happened.  Thank you so much!  If I could, I would "like" you as many times as I can physically hit the "Liked" button!
PS: what the heck is wrong with Apple though???  Wrong instructions, incorrect help instructions on their own site.  The chances of figuring this out before having a nervous breakdown were like one in a million (approximately, I did not actually do the math).  Last week, the keyboard and the trackpad stopped responding on my brand new macbook pro for a couple hours. I was not the only one with this problem.  Apparently, this was from a design flaw, which means it could happen again at any time.  iMovie doesn't work.  TextEdit keeps crashing all the time.  Emptying the trash can take hours.
Since 2000, I bought a PMac G4 Quicksilver, a used PMac G3 Blue, a used iBook G4, a used Pismo PBook G3, a used Graphite iMac G4, a used iMac G3 (green, 233MHz I think) and I already had more problems with this brand new macbook pro than will all the other macs combined...  For such an expensive machine, with 16GB of RAM, that's a little dissapointing, especially from Apple.  Maybe I'm just not lucky.
Anyways, thanks again!  Best moment of 2014!

  • I am using a macbookpro and I want to upgrade it from snow leopard to mountain lion. How do I do this?

I want to upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion. So will I have to download lion and then mountain lion? Or can indirectly download mountain lion?

You can install Mountain Lion directly without going to Lion first.  Just be sure your system meets Mountain Lion's requirements.  There are a few systems that are Lion compatible but not Mountain Lion compatible:

  • I just want to download mac OS X Lion 10.7, not Mountain Lion. How do I do this?

I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8 and cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion. So, in the meantime I am attempting to upgrade to Lion v10.7.0, and cannot find how.

Phone the Apple Store and order a download code for it.

  • HT3258 The scanner on my Canon inkjet printer MG6200 series will not work with Mountain Lion. How can I fix this?

The MP Navigator software in my scanner cannot be opened since I installed Mountain Lion. Canon say they don't have a way of fixing this, so is there a solution out there I wonder?

I have the MG6250 and MP Navigator v5.0.2 is working on my 10.8.2 Mac, so I don't know why the Canon support is telling you that it cannot be fixed.
To use MP Navigator you must have the full scanner driver installed. And when it is installed you then need to configure MP Navigator to use the networked MG62xx.
Also ensure you are using the latest version of MP Navigator. Try trashing the one you currently have in Applications > Canon Utilities and then installing this latest version.

  • Software Update points to Lion Server - how do I change this to App store?

Under 10.7 server, had all clients set to receive software updates from the Lion software update server.
Now have clients on 10.8 but they are unable to access updates via App store - suspect this is because the old pointers to the Lion server still exist.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

I see a reference to the "old" software update server (hararispace.com):

  • The share Button in Notification center of OSX Mountain Lion Does not let you tweet links

By default a link in twitter is shortened .But in notification center when you try to tweet from the share link button the link is not shortened . This seems to be a bug

Hadn't noticed that before. You could use a link shortener first like
    https://bitly.com
but agree that's a bit inconvenient.

  • How do you uninstall the wireless service and lenovo battery indicator from the task bar.

Was wondering if there is a way to remove them from the taskbar. Initially I had just the battery indicator and then I downloaded all the lenovo updates (for bios, etc.) and got the wireless service indicator too. They seem kind of redundant to me, as windows 7 already has their own on the task bar and they're just taking up additional space.
I'd atleast like to get rid of the wireless service.
Will this effect anything? Are they that important?

Right click on the Lenovo battery gauge in the taskbar, click "Launch Power Manager", click Options, clear "Show Power Manager Gauge in taskbar" check box.  If Options tab is not available, switch to Advanced mode (upper right corner of Power Manager).
Don't recall specifics for Lenovo network icon, but is probably just as simple.  Would be better (IMHO) to get rid of Access Connections altogether.
Removing the icons will have no affect on anything, except your piece of mind from removing these ugly and redundant symbols of bloatware.  They are NOT important.

  • Start Mountain Lion server on boot

Is it possible to start OSX Mountain Lion Server when I boot up my Mac Mini?
I have to login now each time I boot to start the server service.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Mike

Once you have installed Server.app and configured and started the services you want to use they will automatically start when your Mac is booted. It is not necessary to login for the services to run, nor is it necessary to have the Server.app running. The Server.app is used purely for configuring settings and is not the server software itself.
Some administrators would argue having a server logged in and showing the Finder etc. is an additional security risk even if you have a good password and the screensaver locked.
It is purely up to you, however if you really want to have the Mac server automatically login and automatically run Server.app then you can do this in System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Options, and then turn on Automatic login for the Administrator account. Then for the Administrator account set Server.app to be run in the Login Items tab.
Note: You also need to check to see if Automatic Login has been disabled in the Security & Privacy preference pane and if needed re-enable it.

  • Why do I have to buy Mountain Lion and  Mountain Lion server to upgrade my Lion server?

    Hi !
I can't find any option in app store to direct buy OSX Mountain Lion Server to upgrade my Mini i7 Lion Server ?!? Just necessary purchased the Mountain Lion and BUY AGAIN OSX Server Packet $19, billing Twice ?!?!

You are looking at a radical change, 10.8 Server is not an "Upgrade", it's an application. The previous Apache is still at its old location but is unused xcept for some .conf files. The arrangement and configuration of 10.8 Server.app is a big change from 10.7 so plan on some relearning. You will buy the application Server.app which on first run installs components at /Library/Server/*. Most everything is now inside the Server.app package in the Applications folder including all scripts for Wiki pages and several Apple specific Apache modules. Apple is also replacing the messy *.conf flat text files with plist files so that is an improvement. In addition, Python script support is now built-in as well as WSGI for those running Python webapps.
Having said that, some parts have sharp edges so don't expect full operation for a few versions.
