OSX mountian lion not letting me snapshot to decktop

Having recently upgraded to OS X Mountain lion, i have lost permision to take snap shops to my desktop. When I use the snapshot tool i get an error message saying that "Your screenshot cant be saved unable to capture desktop image"
I use this function all the time. Can any one help?
Help/comments appreciated.

I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

Drag Firefox to a location on the hard disk and launch it from there instead of the mounted dmg.

My download of osx mountain lion gets to 142mb then stops! I've tried deleting the purchase and redownloading still the same thing,

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)

That get trickier.
Several pieces of applications reside in system directories. With much replacement of file some of those could be lost. Hopefully not, but some could.
But worse could be the compatibility issue. If your system came with SL, some that worked in Lion may not work anymore with ML. Some designed for Lion may not work in ML. Look here as release of ML approaches for a final status of applications listed: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Bottom line is that few in this forum know details about application compatibility, and they cannot speak because they are under "developer non-discolsure" agreements about ML. For now, follow roaringapps and wait with the rest of us.

Failure to reinstall OSX Mountian Lion

My iMac recently started to lag and freeze upon using any application to the point that it had to be restarted. The problem persisted so I tried to roll back to OSX Mountain Lion. Upon trying I got an error message saying that the additional components could not be installed and downloaded. as of now the iMAc is now useless as it has no OS on it. How do I fix this?

You must first erase the drive before trying to downgrade. At this point you can try:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

I am running mac osx 10.5.8, but FireFox is giving me a message that it is not compatible with my version of osx and will not let me install. The web site says it is compatible with osx 10.5. Am I missing something?

OSX Mountain Lion not installing

Not sure if this maybe an issue (due to the network) but i am currently working in Iraq and downloaded my copy via a hotspot provided by the company. After installing my macbook keeps on asking me to restart. Had a look on my HD and saw the following

Is outlook notes compatable with mountian lion notes?

I have notes on my iphone from when I used outlook on my pc, I now use my iphone with my mac Air and would like to sync my iphone notes with my mac. I have notes on both devices but on my mac there are only 5 or 6 items and on my iphone there are many more and would like put them on the Mac.

Apparently, from reading other threads asking this same question, Apple Level 2 Engineers at Apple Care have also been unable to perform this act, and so it is a known problem.. We'll apparently have to wait for a Software Update.

Mountian Lion Not Installing Properly?

I am running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro, and trying to install Mountain Lion. Downloaded fine and gets to the restart of the installation then says error and cant install? any ideas?

1. Maybe your hard drive was too full.
2. Maybe your hard drive is failing.
3. Maybe there was an error in the download, even though it "downloaded fine".
I'd make sure you have enough free space on the drive, and try again.

OSX Mountain Lion "Messages" will not let me sign in...

I cannot for the life of me get messages to work on the new OSX mountain lion. I keep getting this alert when trying to sign in:
"COULD NOT SIGN INTO iMESSAGE. The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
Any ideas? I have restarted both my macbook and macpro, reset my apple ID password... no love.

I have spent over 40 hour walking through this issue with Apple senior tier engineering support with Apple for Mountain Lion and Developer support, plus the Apple store genius bar and their high level connection, Getting no where trying to resolve same issue it seems. The only thing I can get to work is AIM to video chat or share screens. Messages accounts have added 5 other account .mac accounts and I can not sign into any of them or remove any of them either. Over time I have had a .mac address that was made into a mobile me address that was then converted into a .mac email again and became a cloud account. And I have a developer account that has a separate name that works with iTunes connect. When I try to manage accounts to change the password of one it corrupts the the password of the other. When I try the change emails of one it says it is in use by the other.
There are 2 accounts for the iTunes and App Store.
Messages is choking on my 2 accounts and there is a definite unresolved problem with the cloud in regard to them it seems.

An @mac.com Apple ID that is also a valid AIM Screen Name is registered here
Keep the password to 16 characters or less (it's an AIM limit despite the prompts on the Site for longer).
The Apple ID (Using @mac.com) links one email to the @mac.com name. That email is a must but must not already be used with another Apple ID

How do you capitalize a letter in Dictate for OSX M.Lion?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section for posting, but as stated above: How do you capitalize a letter in Dictate for OSX M.Lion? For example, I've tried Saying "Caps Apple" and "Capitalize Apple" when speaking (and the word is not the start of a sentence).

I just tried that and it typed this: "I went to the cat Apple Store today". So it clearly didn't hear the word 'cap' and still capitalized the word automatically.

App store wont let me buy OSX Mountain Lion

My MBP is from 2011 and fully capable of runnung osx mountain lion however when i sign into the app atore to buy it i get a pop up saying that the file damaged or invalid. Ive callled apple tech and currently im reinstalling osx lion in hopes it will fix this problem, if not, has anyone else run into this problem or suggestions on what else i could do to fix it?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.

Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
