Osx now on intel?

hi all since now that Mac OS X can be ran on the Intel macs does that mean i can install OS X on a windows computer with a intel duo core?
~ChRiS

It is possible to do yes.
With hacked software, by someone who you don't know, shouldn't trust, and who certainly doesn't give a rat's a** about you. How do you know that their isn't some backdoor installed along with that hack? Oh, because you are so 31337? Yeah sure you are....
When installing the versions they say work on a PC, it may very well boot, but that doesn't mean your sound will work, the video card drivers will work properly, or other basic functions will even work. I have yet to see anyone say they have installed it and had 100% stable working OS with 100% of all hardware properly supported. And they would probably be lying.
Apple includes specific drivers for their specific hardware. If those drivers don't detect the hardware they want, they won't work. And they have made sure their hardware differs enough.
Working with hacked OS's is always a gamble. Not to mention ILLEGAL.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. • MIAW in OSX 10.4 Intel

I have an application that opens a MIAW at the onset, but it
is invisible. We do this so the window does not have to load each
time it is called, we never actually "forget the MIAW" we just
    close it.
My problem is that on our OSX test machine (OSX 10.4 Intel
Mac Mini) the MIAW always shows up as a white square and never
disappears. When the MIAW is called and opened, it appears as
normal, but when it is closed it goes back to being a white square.
Admittedly we have only ever developed PC applications, as
there has been no request by any client to include mac users. This
is our first, and we only test on the Mac platforms - we develop on
    PC.
Aside from the weird MIAW the software runs more-or-less
    normally on the Mac.
Is this normal on Macs? is there a workaround?

Projector is a standard window (something like 700x400), not
    fullscreen.
MIAW is a standard default MIAW, nothing tricky set on it
aside from changing the window title and setting it to be off.

What happened to my power pc it worked fine i tried to install new osx now it does this and woot load my orginal tiger disk

Hello, what OS did you try to instal & what exact Install Disc did you use? Maybe the 2z691-****-A number of the Disc?

  • How can i install osx now ?

I clean my disk totally by disk utility and now nothing comes up when holding option key. After a while this text comes with a black background, "No Bootable Device -- insert boot disk and press any key".
I think I erase everything, even boot settings!!!
Now, How can i install OSX now on my iMac?

What is the exact iMac model you have, please? If your model can run Snow Leopard then you need to install Snow Leopard from your installer discs. Snow Leopard must then be upgraded to 10.6.8 so you can upgrade to the version of OS X you had installed from the App Store.

OSX now crashes every hour. For no obvious reason or trigger, suddenly OSX apps like Dock, desktops, launchpad, finder, toolbar, etc become unresponsive, although sometimes non OSX apps (like Chrome, TextMate, etc) remain functioning briefly, before the whole thing hangs and needs a hard reboot.
It is not apparent what I do to provoke the crash -- it happens while I am in seemingly any application, sometimes just reading a page and not taking any actions.
This started happening very suddenly two days ago. It might have happened around the time I updated ITunes but I'm not sure of this at all. And I never use ITunes or have it open.
Don't know how to diagnose the problem since nothing is accessible whence it freezes up on me.  I tried software update, but problem continued after. Would appreciate troubleshooting advice. Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Have new iMac osx 2.5 intel and a few times now when in mail it starts to lag, rainbow spins and things go awry. Have to shut down and reboot to get it back to normal. Also a sender rang to say his email to me had been opened 140 times.....whats that???!!

Have new imac 2.5 mid 2011 OS X and macmail has a few times started to lag.....slow to accept writing and the rainbow spins and seems to stop it. have to shut down to get it back to normal. Very frustrating when in the middle of a message. Any ideas whats wrong ....whats happening...how to fix...Also a sender rang me to see if I forwarded their email on, and said that particular email had been opened 140 times.......I did not send on....any ideas about that one also.
    Cheers Rhonda

Rhonda you Force Quit and app by click the Apple symbol in the upper left and selecting Force Quit... and then select the app that isn't responding and Force Quit it.
I'm not sure what is wrong with your Mail system but I'd recommend starting over with it. You can find out how in Mail Setup, Troubleshooting etc... If you still have trouble then contact AppleCare,  you have 90 days of free phone service with AppleCare......why not use it?

  • Updated OSX now TC transfer of back up slow

I have just upgraded my OSX for my older 2006 iMac from Tiger to Snow Leopard so I can run iTunes7 and sync my iPhone 5. I am now transferring my back up from Time Capsule after one of the first screens asked how I would like to back up via wireless and it is very slow. After a good 7 hours it's barley an 8th of the way through and now I can't see it's moving at all. I read some folks connect via Ethernet and transfer that way to speed things up.
    Can I do this?
If so, can I now cancel by pressing escape or the main power as there is no stop transfer option on the screen?
Will it need to start again?
What would be the best process here?
    Really appreciate the help
    W

If you have older versions of excel and word that previously ran under the Rosetta emulator (allows PowerPC code to run on Intel system), they will no longer work with Lion.
You can use the Apple programs Pages and Numbers to access the files. They can be bought and downloaded from the App store. NeoOffice is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which has Lion support. OpenOffice doesn't talk to Lion support, it's at http://www.openoffice.org/

  • Re-installed osx now iPhone see's iTunes as a "new" computer and wont sync

    Help please:)
I had a critical hard drive failure and had not backed up my data.
After a clean install of osx on the same computer with the same hardware, I updated itunes to the latest version. (all fine so far).
before the new install I had sync'd my iPhone and sync'd the iTunes account, music, videos etc to my iPhone.
Now when I try and sync the iPhone I get a message telling me that I can either "cancel" or wipe the iphone and sync from scratch because the "library" is on a new computer !
arrgghh... it's the same box same everything. I even used the same name to re-install osx on my iMac but the iphone and itunes still see's the itunes library as a different computer and wont let me sync without wiping the iphone of all it's data which I cant do. It's all I have left out of about $800 dollars worth of purchased music and stuff. Everything else was lost when I had to wipe the hard drive clean on the iMac!
    Any help please !!
I just want to be able to sync my iPhone with iTunes so I can a) get some of my music & stuff back and b) update my apple account details and c) start sync'ing my iPhone again without worrying about wiping it out !

*it's the same box same everything. I even used the same name to re-install osx on my iMac*
It's the same computer but not the same iTunes library, as you've said in your post the original library was erased. Your iPhone was linked to your previous library, it's not linked to the computer. I presume that all your songs etc. were also erased since you haven't mentioned a back-up anywhere.
If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:

  • Just archived & installed to fix OSX, now what's the best way to restore?

So recently my OSX stopped working for reasons unknown to me, but an archive and install saved my life, thank god.
However, now I have this folder with all my previous files and applications, I'm wondering if there's an easy way to restore my computer with the Previous Files folder, or if I have to just go through it and find what I need, and paste into applications folder/etc.
I'm also curious if it's safe to do that, since the reason of OSX not working is unknown.
    Thanks!

  • In OSX now won't boot back to OS9 Help!

Hi Folks! I've done this before but it's been a while and I've forgotten how to resolve the problem. I usually use OS9 on this computer but i booted into X and then used classic and now it won't boot back to OS9. You can select the OS9 drive in the startup panel but it just boots back to X. Using an option boot the OS9 drive doesn't show up. The only thing I did was startup classic using the system folder on that separate OS9 drive. Why would starting up classic render a perfectly good boot drive inoperable. I ran Diskwarrior on it to make sure the directory was in good shape. The OSX is one one drive and the OS9 is on another. Tom

    Hi Tom-
Do you need to rebless the system folder?

What do you think is the reason drive mode does not work on the Mac-Mini?

I am puzzled as to why you would think a malfunctioning drive would cause you to downgrade your system, but my guess is it won't work.
If you can't see it to format it in Disk utility then it is bad and should be returned.

  • Running OSX on an Intel/AMD system

First anyone that wants to hate on intel or mac, go someplace else. I run both systems on seperate computers, frankly both have benefits, but what I'm really wondering is if there is any compatability on OSX with non-apple bought intel architechture systems, or if there will be sometime in the future. Basically it boils down to I run a small video production company and my mac is getting on in years and I don't have the budget to purchase a new computer and my personal computer blows pretty much everything else away, so I was wondering if I could load up OSX and Final Cut on it, even if it runs slower it will still help with the editing process.
    Thanks.

    complex.
I would just wait until Apple migrates there. Look at
the new mac-mini intel: integrated graphics. Won't be
    long; more money for Steve.

  • Had to Re-install OSX Now no Iphoto

So interesting problem. I have had to re-install OS X due a huge performance loss? Anyways, I am now up and running with garage band and Imovie both installed and working. Only now I have no Iphoto?? I have also installed PSE 8 but I'd still like iphoto? I have not found it on my install disc even under additional components? Any thoughts?

Did you reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on? The system install does not include iPhoto or the other iLife applications. If iPhoto came with the computer it will take a second install and would be on another disk looking something like this:
Unless, of course, you purchased iLife 09 to get iPhoto 09. Then you'll need to use the iLife 09 install disk.
