OSX problems, can't reinstall!!

I have a Macbook pro, it's about a year and a half old, and up until yesterday I've had no problems. Now I can't get my Macbook to start.
Here's the problem and what I've done so far:
My computer was in the middle of installing a software update when it froze. It couldn't recover, and I had to force a shut down (by holding the power button).
When I rebooted, it loads the page with the apple logo and a spinning disk, but won't get any farther than that, even after sitting for half an hour to an hour.
Once, during this sitting process, it's gone to a black screen with white writing. The error code that comes up is something like (and I could be wrong/missing something, it wasn't up long and I was writing it down as quick as I could)
Launchd com.apple.nibindd
bad system call
too many failures will couse job removal
It cycles through this a bunch of times with a countdown, and then when it has two tries left before 'job removal' it freezes.
When I booted up in safe mode it loaded. I went to manually reinstall the updates that it had been working on, but it told me that it couldn't because it required Mac OSX 10.5 (at this point after previous updates I was running Mac OS X 10.4.9). I deleted the downloaded updates at this point, uninstalled Firefox and msn (both programs have caused minor problems in the past), backed up my really important data, cleared out my recyling bin, researched for new updates, and it found none available. I then rebooted normally. It still wouldnt' load.
I then tried resetting my PRAM/NVRAM and it was successful-it rebooted on it's own after resetting, and for the first time made the Apple start up sound on reboot. I thought it was fixed, but again-just sits at the apple screen.
I then loaded my OS X disk, and run the hardware test. Everything comes back fine.
I restarted, and loaded from the disk again. I accessed the disk utility. I tried to verify permissions, but partway through it loses connection with the disk management tool and forces me to exit. It did this three times before I gave up verifying the permissions. I went straight to 'repair permissions' and after 'thinking' for a bit it told me there was nothing to repair. I then verified the disk, it told me everything was fine, I repaired anyway, and again everything was fine.
I tried restarting again, nothing.
I went back into disk utility and told it to reboot from HD (to ensure it wasn't attempting to boot through a network connection, etc), but no luck.
Finally, at my wits ends, I wiped my harddrive. I then reinstalled OS X but something isn't working. It first verified my installation DVD, that went fine. It then installed, but it never asked me to insert the second disk (even though it told me to have the second disk ready at the beginning of the install). After reaching 100% of the installation it forced me to reboot. I followed the instructions, rebooted, and it STILL just sits at the apple loading screen. The only difference is that now I can't get it to boot up in safe mode.
Help? I dont' know what else to do. Or what the problem could be. I need it fixed ASAP (I'm a uni student and this is my computer-I have two essays to write over reading week and can't really do it without my Mac!) so I'm reluctant to send it back to an Apple shop unless I've exhausted all options (I've heard horror stories from friends about ridiculous wait times), especially since this computer stopped being covered by a warrenty 3 months ago (the irony!). Any help is appreciated!!

Hey thanks for the reply!
1) To be honest, I'm not very tech-savy. I ordered my Mac online almost 1.5 years ago, and since I don't install any programs on it I've never really checked the specs-Beyond knowing that it has a 120G harddrive. Since I can't get back into safemode now I don't know how else to check my hardware specs. I believe it's just above 2GHz (like...2.15 or something), and I believe it has 2G RAM, but again...no way to double check that right now.
6/7)I realize now I should have purchased an extended warrenty, at the time it was simply a lack of cash-I'm kicking myself now. And the only bad stories I've heard were from two separate friends-one sent their ipod in to a Toronto office and didn't get it back for 6 months, the other sent their iMac in and didn't get it back for 2-3 months...both those were a Toronto outlet though, so I'm thinking I might have more luck at my school (I've found out they have an authorized reseller at McMaster). I don't know anyone else that's ever sent anything into Apple besides them, so I was a little hesitant to send it off based on what they said, but if that's not a common issue then I will most definitely bring it in on Monday if it's not fixed.
5) Good advice, I never realized updates could cause a problem until now...the installation just pops up on it's own when it's connected to the internet and I always allow the installation to continue.
I'm going to try erasing and reinstalling based on what you said, I'll let you know if it was a success. If not, is there a possibility it could be a hardware issue? Or is it most likely software related?
Thanks again!

• Hard Drive Node Problem, can't reinstall OS X.

Hey all,
I've been at this for a week or so now.
My Mac has developed an error with it's B-Tree, 'invalid index key(4, 25152)'.
Tried using Disk Utility in OS X, fsck in Single User, and attempted to use the Mac Install DVD as well as Disk Warrior. The latter two, I have copied and create dupes on other fresh DVD media.
Both the disks just will not boot, Install DVD in Verbose Mode gets up to 'efiNVRAMPublished():' and hangs. In GUI Mode, a 'restart your computer' error happens.
Also can't seem to get into Hardware Diagnostics, tried holding down D Key, probably missing a trick when it comes to that. I'm just getting the grey startup screen.
Any advice on how I can now reinstall would be brilliant. The FS is obviously corrupt, I can just copy anything I needed from a Time Machine I've got.
If you need anything else, just ask. I know my way around OS X, and should be able to report any info you'll need.
Really missing some XCode projects at the minute.
PS: This is written from my Windows 7 Bootcamp partition, so I don't think it's a hardware problem. This Mac was new, since Sept 12th 2010 (old one had mass faults so got a replacement model).

That's just it, Apple Store in Manchester Trafford Centre.
The guy basically said, it's not worth repairing so they'd just replace my 2.26GHz Macbook with that 2.4GHz refresh. He gave me the Macbook in that white sheet they come wrapped in, and I signed some forms.
Didn't give me the disks, so I've just coped with the two Macbook disks from the 2.26GHz Macbook.
Should I call up Apple and get disks for the 2.4GHz one?
Slight improvement on the DW front. Now says 'Error: Missing driver \every\driver\on\disk' then KP's.
It's a little bit difficult to get back to the Apple Store I went to, I've moved away for Uni a fortnight ago, don't wanna have to leave it until 18th Dec to get this (probably simple in the end) solution.

• Major font problems- can you reinstall only the sytem fonts?

I installed Adobe Font Folio last night (so far 500+ fonts) and this afternoon several webpages and the address book and the calendar in Dashboard have changed to a numeric/subscript font. I have disabled all fonts in Font Book that look anything like the weird font, repaired the permissions in the Disk Utility, and now am at a lost on what to do next!
Here is an example:

• Can I reinstall last month and then change back if needed?

If I select my HD and reinstall back from say January 1 and it does not solve my problem can I reinstall yesterday and get everything as it is yesterday. I guess also that it will take a long time like the first time it backed up.
I have a program for wireless printers and for some reason the software worked for one or two days and not upon opening says "SXUPTP Driver has not been installed. Please install the application again."
I am trying to get back to when it worked and don't really know what the problem is. But I have installed it on another MacBook and it works fine. So it something in mine.
Thanks
Larryb

I've found that out but this software from Sitex is suppose to install that driver in the right place and for some reason it does not. I have been in contact with their technical people and they have not figured it out so far. They are now going to Japan which is their engineering I guess.
See I have Fusion with XP also and this software is supposed to handle all of it. It works fine with the PC here. Worked for a day or two on the mac also then quit.

Hello! Tried unsuccessfully to restore my MBP, running the Mac OSX Lion, to factory settings. I keep getting the "can't download additional components for the Mac OSX Lion" error when reinstalling the OSX Lion. Any tips on how to resolve this problem?

Hi
Given that your answer to 1. is 'pre-installed' and 3. is 'No', I think the only thing to do is to take it to an Apple store (ideally the one you bought it from) and have them reinstall it for you.
The intended solution in cases like yours is that you should be able to reboot and install even a wiped disk by using Apple's servers over the internet (you do this by restarting with 'command-r' and choosing 'reinstall Lion'). However if this isn't working for you then you need to get the store to do it. Don't let them fob you off with 'go home and try again'. Have them do it in the shop (you're still covered by Applecare warranty so it should cost you nothing save the inconvenience of the trip and possibly leaving the machine there while they fix it).
A reinstall should leave all your own personal data and programs in place.
Note for future: when you get it fixed, first thing to do is buy a cheap external drive and start keeping a backup (either Time Machine or clone with Carbon Copy Cloner).

I had all my software, including my ‘Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium’ removed from my MacPro (OSX 10.10.2) by a Computer technician after I had inadvertently installed some malware.
Now I can’t reinstall my CS4 because the installer software wants me to identify the product from which I am upgrading, but mine isn’t on the list. The old product from which I am upgrading is called ‘Adobe Design Collection’. Furthermore, it has 4 serial numbers (one each for Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Illustrator), not just one, as the installer requires.
I know this can be done, as I have had it working for a long time. Am I doing something wrong now?

Contact support be web chat and have them generate a working temporary serial/ challenge code for the install.

erased mac book pro (2009), how can i reinstall osx?  it won't recognize old system discs

Did you try:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you don't have the original discs that came with the computer, then you can install the retail version of Snow Leopard:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.

Either redownload it from the Mac App Store or reinstall it from your iLife DVD or if it came pre-installed you can reinstall from the original discs that came with the computer.

10.3 does not have the App Store available.      Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac and the following will bring it back depending on what you have:
Any version of 10.6, use the 10.6.8 Combo Update:
Combo v1.1 (7/25/2011)
Any version of 10.7, use the 10.7.5 Combo Update: 10.7.5 Combo
Any version of 10.8, use the 10.8.5 Combo Update: 10.8.5 Combo
Any version of 10.9, use the 10.9.2 Combo Update: 10.9.2 Combo
Note, if you it does not bring it back, you may need to run the combo keys of command-R on boot restore if you have 10.7 or later, and then the appropriate Combo update.    If you have 10.6.8 or earlier, command-R restore is not available, and you need to either use the original 10.6 installer disc, if the Mac is newer than March 15, 2010, or the 10.6.3 retail disc found here for 10.6 compatible Macs that are older (that includes any Intel CPU Mac with at least 1 GB of RAM):
10.6 retail is available from the Apple Store on http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard (the /us/ in the link may be changed for the standard two letter country code matching the store link).
If you are using a PowerPC Mac, G3, G4, or G5 you can't install 10.6, or the App Store.
Those using 10.6.8 or earlier, do not jump to 10.7 or later, without reading this tip first:
