Osx server installation

Hello,
I am trying to install OSX Server on my Mac Mini, and it gives me the following error message:
"Fehler beim Aktivieren der Software. Es wurde ein Problem mit dem Server erkannt. Laden Sie den Server erneut aus dem App Store"
in English it should be something like this
"Error when activating the Software. A Probelm has been identified wit the Server. Download the Server again from the App Store".
However downbloading it again and again only gives the same error message again.
Does anyone know why I am getting this error and what I can do?
Thank you for your help!

Hi
You will see the 99 folder on the Server. It will be in the folder designated for Home Folder creation and automounting. It gets created if there are no home folders.
Is this the only server on the network?
What happens if you create a new user and home folder, one whose log in name and password does not exist anywhere else and is also not the clients local admin account. On the client click other and log in with that account. On logout does this users home folder disappear off the server?

  • Reset osx server lion

How can I reset osx server lion ?

    Hi,
I do have the same issue. I have had an OSX Server 2.2.1 running and had to change the hostname from server.home to server.dyndns.org which ended  in a big mess. So I decided to setup a clean OSX Server installation with the new hostname. I performed the following steps
    - shutdown all services
    - delete Server.app
    - delete folder /Library/Server
    - reboot
    - perform repair access rights
    - install OSX Server
The strange thing is that the setup process was different now and I was not ask what kind of server I want to setup. At the end I realized that it restored some settings from the previous installation.
So my question: How do initiate a realy clean reinstallation of OSX Server. I want to avoid a setup from a time machine backup, as my server is maintained remotly (no monitor, keyboard).

  • Mac Mini OSX Server Version and installation

I am very interested in the New Mac Mini with OSX server configuration.
But I would like to know what is the difference between the "Retail" OSX server version and the "Bundled" OSX server version which came with the Mac Mini ?
Can the "Bundled" server version be installed on another intel-based Mac ( in case of hardware failure in the Mac Mini ) ?

The difference is that this is server software, it is not the Mac OS X client software for day-to-day use on a Pro or Consumer Mac.
The bundled software according to the Mac mini Server specs page is on an Install/Restore DVD. These are usually machine specific so it will not be usable by directly placing it in the ODD of another Mac, it should spit the disc out as unusable. But there are ways to connect the Macs and install the software to another Mac. However, the End User Agreement licenses the software for installation on only one Mac at a time.

  • How can I completely remove OSX Server from my Mavericks installation?

I moved OSX Server and the Server file from the system Library but Server still controls my File sharing with my Sonos app.  It will not let my Sonos app access my music folder.

Perhaps there is a more correct way to uninstall server but just in case there isn't, if you remove this file and restart that should stop the server.

  • Help for first install of macpro with osx server

    Hello to all
it's my first message on this forum, i'm seeking for help because i'm kind of new with Mac systems.
    I'm gonna explain the problem
So we are going to buy a mac pro and put 4*2To inside with raid 5 and osx server.
The problem is that the cost of installation of sotwre and deployement etc is really expensive.
I need to create a vpn too, this mac pro is gonna be a storage and multiple users must have acces to it. In fact this mac will be connected on the router and users will acces to it on local network then later we're gonna move from our base so the mac will be at the home of one of us and other users will have to access it from outside.
I was thinking avoyding cost of install by doing it myself.
So i've thinked that the best way to do it is by asking help to the community.
Is anyone can help me with this or tell me where i can find tutorials to do it?
I have skills but this is hard form me. The thing is that i learn fast. But i need help.
Maybe my post is not really clear i write as it comes to me, english is not my langage too.
So feel free to ask me questions or informations if you need.
In the same time i'm reading posts on the foum about this kindof installations.
    Thank u so much

    Dear Marcassin
i am happy to help to your problem .
first i would say you must read the Documentation. and you should familier with Mac Os installation System.
in your Mac Server DVD you will find the schedule sheet . print that and plan your server first. it will really help full. then come and list down the all the requirements.
may be you will need more services after that.
But again again again . read that sheet and fill all the requirements. and come back or read specific captors in the Documentation.

  • Help needed with OSX Server 10.5.8

We're running a headless Xserve (RackMac3,1) with OSX Server 10.5.8 that did its job flawlessly.
Now we want to update the Perl software from 5.8.6 to 5.20.0 or newer. After downloading the suitable version from CPAN we tried to install, but get the following msg:
Uh-oh, the C compiler 'cc' doesn't seem to be working.
You need to find a working C compiler.
Either (purchase and) install the C compiler supplied by your OS vendor,
or for a free C compiler try http://gcc.gnu.org/
I cannot continue any further, aborting.
Is there a way to install the missing tools remotely via the command line (SSH)? A step-by-step recipe would be most welcome.
    - Harald -

RackMac3,1 is PPC/G5 processor so you are not going to have an easy time with this. Perl 5.2.20 is bleeding edge (OS X 10.10.3 comes with v5.16.3).
I would leave Apple's installation of Perl, etc. on the server strictly alone and install MacPorts:
         The MacPorts Project -- Home
and work from there. You aren't likely to get a step-by-step recipe because its not an exercise a rational person would chose to spend time on.
Have you considered rewriting whatever features in your code require Perl 5.2.20 than to upgrade your server? Or buy a new server, you could probably pick up a Mini for about $200.

  • How do I re-install my Mac OSX Server from scratch

    Hi,
I have purchased two MacMini Servers with 10.6 OSX Server software pre-installed.
I have changed the organization as our company name changed and run into license issues.
I want to re-install the Mac OSX Server software and start from scratch. How do I go about this. I tried yesterday for many hours to do so and the new installs are still running into duplicate license issues and other issues. What is the best approach to do re-install? I am willing to erase the internal Hard Disk and boot (with an external DVD optical drive) if that is the best way to go. What are the steps?
I have the original CDs or DVDs and have extra, external hard disks to do a Time Machine backup, etc.
    Thanks,
    Don

If you are looking to do a nuke and pave of the system, and you have an external optical drive, then yes, that is likely the most direct method. Connect the optical drive, insert the installation DVD, and reboot the system targeting the optical disk as the boot volume (you can do this by holding down the C key or the Option key during startup).
Now, if you do not have an optical drive, you can put the installation disk into another Mac running 10.6 and use the Remote Install Mac OS X application in your Utilities folder.
    Hope this helps

  • Ruby on Rails on OSX Server

Has any one built or have instructions for installing Ruby on Rails on OSX Server 10.4?
    Do these instructions still apply:
    http://hivelogic.com/narrative/articles/ruby-rails-mongrel-mysql-osx
And can it play alongside Apache if you use Mongrel as the web server?

I have been trying for the last couple of weeks to get Ruby on Rails running on OSX Server as well. I followed the instructions on the site you refer to. The whole installation proceeds just fine, I can run my RoR sites locally by running scripts/server, but when trying to access the web site I get a 403 error and the log says "Directory index forbidden by rule".
I have followed directions from other sites regarding: installing and activating the fastcgi module, setting access rights to various folders and files, modifying the httpd.conf file to allow overwrite all and access to indexes,... No progress. I still can't get the RoR site to work.

  • Installing Imagemagick on OSX Server

    Hi
I'm trying to install Imagemagick onto the server. If I follow these instructions
    http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php?ImageMagick=1l0pnkv7t9gp1m a6p2vi3epu13#macosx
    I get an error of:
dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022 osx server imagemagick
I've looked around and can't seem to find anywhere that tells me how to install it
I'm wondering whether to use macports but will this change my localhost directories, etc... and mess up the other things I have running on the server
    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi,
I've installed Imagemagick on 10.5 and 10.6 client. Haven't had the need on server yet but it shouldn't be much different. Other installs to /usr/local on server have worked fine for me.
XCODE 3 and X11 must be installed prior to continuing with the following installation on Mac OS 10.4 & 10.5
    Go to http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080818051248464
which has you run a series of bash scripts: at http://pastie.org/254887
This loads the modern image formats (jpeg and png), then ghostscript fonts needed for rmagick.
Then ImageMagick itself is loaded and all links point to it within the location it was compiled.
    I selected /usr/local
    Test the installation by
start up an X11 terminal window by starting Applications -> Utilities -> X11
    $ cd ImageMagick-6.5.2-5/images
    $ convert logo: logo.gif
    $ identify logo.gif
    $ display logo.gif
which should produce the sorcerer image on the X11 terminal window.
There is a single shell script for doing all this on 10.6 with the options for architecture setup.

  • Apple Support said OSX Server could not be used as a file server only

    Hi There,
We bought OSX server thinking it would be easier than MS Small Business Server 2003 to setup, administer and maintain, as well as be more compatible with our mac studio.
The simple setup we would like is:
    - A file server for our Mac studio (7x macs)
    - A "My Documents" style redirect to backup email from the client machines
    - Some sort of secondary backup to a HD on the server (primary Backup is already taken care of)
We're using a single 1.8ghz G5 box as the hardware
After a lot of trouble with the documentation and the setup example in the manual, I called Apple Tech Support.
I was told in no uncertain terms that if we didn't have a fully qualified domain name on the server (and all the services needed to run it), then I could not configure the server as a simple File Server with a My Documents redirect and that Apple could not support me. - IS THIS TRUE?
I am not a network/IT/PC guy, I'm a graphic designer, but I've found the installation and setup of MS Small Business Server to be much easier than OSX so far (despite the MS documentation).
Any help or direction would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Hello,
If you need to just setup a FileServer then you do not need OpenDirectory or DNS. You just need AFP and Windows File Sharing turned on.
You can create a windows workgroup and setup shares in WorkGroup Manager using the internal users and groups database.
When the windows clients boot up you could set up a persistent mapping of a volume which would contain your email data. You would use a \\192.168.x.x type connection from the RUN menu.
It sounds like you could do with some more help on how best to use the server. I rekon you would be better off not having a simple fileserver (though it would work!) and make use of the extra functions availiable in the server software. On OS 10.4 server you can create a Windows Domain Controller that would allow all your PC home directories to be stored on the server, this will ensure that the Desktop, My Documents and anything elese the user stores in their profile will be safe and backed up on the server. You can also do this for the the Macs, in fact you can set it up so you can loggon to any PC in the office and your user information, desktop wallpaper and other settings follow you, if you were to then logon to a Mac you would have your documents follow you around the office. This works great for people hot-desking and using different types of computer.
I don't understand why you were advised to have a fully-qualified domain. When I have setup OpenDirectory and Windows Domain Controllers with DNS and LDAP etc I have just made up a domain name on the DNS server like "mycompany.net" and call the server "server.mycompany.net" and printers "epson.mycompany.net". The only problem with this is because if you were to use a domain name that is registerd on the internet then your computers would have trouble resolving that name, so don't use "apple.com" or "google.com".
    Good luck,
    David

  • Where are the OSX Server features?

Im looking for the "Server" features in MAc OSX 10.8. Im using a Mac Mini that I loaded a clean installation of 10.8 Mountain Lion

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have made a clean install, you have to install Server. Open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download OS X Server. Then, when its download finishes, the OS X Server installer will appear, so follow the steps

  • Re install of osx server stuck

    Hello!
I'm very new to this, (macs at home and posting things that is!!) but hope somebody can help. You'll have to bear with me! (My apologies if you've seen this before but I've just realised I posted it in the wrong area and didn't know how to move it so I've reposted it here. Really sorry!)
I've got a G3 (blue & white one) with OSx server 10.2 (maybe 10.2.8, can't check at the moment) loaded on it. Firstly, can I install Tiger 10.4 onto it? Because when I put the install disk into the mac it didn't recognise it. I have two hard drives, so huge space.
I have a big prob though. I had startup troubles, which I fixed and then decided (maybe very wrongly!) to reinstall the server software again, try freshening it up. I did the complete erase and install. So I followed the installer prompts but at the end, the "finish up" section, it just sat there. The blue bar never got any bigger and it sat like that for 15 hours. (I have quite a bit of patience...) Surely that's not normal??
What do I do? It seems to be stuck. I've reset, unplugged and started up again the the welcome to install screen is there, no way to get out of it and so I go through the process again. Again it sticks on the last "finish up" section, I can't get out of it.
I'm not that experienced with macs. Its my first one, a second hand one. I use a mac at work, a G4 for design work, but everything with software and upgrades is done for us, by the guys we bought the equipment from. I think macs are amazing so wanted one at home, so when the opportunity to purchase the old G3 server came up I took it!
I've tried holding down the c during startup, to start from the install disk, that didn't work.
Please can somebody help me out before I pull all my hair out?!?!? (Mind you, I wonder what I would look like bold? h Nah, on second thoughts... please help...)
    Yours hopefully

Personally speaking, I have always done a new install between major updates rather than over-writing old ones. You have to purchase a new system installer so an additional expense (in time) to do a clean install has always seemed a good move to me. Particularly if your existing install is relatively simple then it should be straightforward. Preferably, I would undergo a couple of 'run throughs' on a test machine (or firewire disk partition) before undertaking the real replacement - just to make yourself familiar with it (probably not too much changed in your case). Good idea to make a disk image of the old one prior to overwriting it or even better, swap out the existing system disk which is probably as old as machine ? for a new one and keep old one, just-in-case. However, watch for probable 128G max size disk for old G4s if you replace existing.
