OSX server : quicktime streaming and video format

I have installed OSX server and must set up a streaming video server. The set up went well but I can't stream any other videos than those offered by the system (aka test.mov). How do I import videos into my Quicktime streaming OSX server ?

That may be a problem with the VLC plugin. VLC has never worked for me properly on the occasions that I've tried it on Windows and Linux, so I have stop using it. There are usually other plugins or media players available that work better.
What kind of media files are that?
For WMP files you can install the new Windows Media Player plugin you can also try RealPlayer and QuickTime if it is about media that those programs can handle to see if that works better.

Importing to iMovie and video formats supported

I'm new to iMovie, and I'm still running '08, and I don't know what video formats are supported. I ripped a home video DVD using HandBrake and found out that iMovie 08 doesn't support .m4v. I tried saving it as a Quicktime Movie file with Quicktime Pro, but iMovie still wouldn't import. Can anyone tell what I can do because I really want to edit my video and burn it on more discs for the rest of my family. So, any help on what formats are supported and what I can do to import my video to iMovie is what I would like help with, please.Thanks for any help.

Check out the iMovie 08 discussion group. You will find a lot of knowledgeable people there.
iMovie will import h.264 (m4v), but it will not import extra tracks such as closed caption tracks, tween tracks, chapter tracks, etc. Make sure handbrake is including these.
You can go into QuickTime Pro and remove extra tracks.
Sometimes, people have reported that simply renaming your m4v file as an .mov file will make it importable. Not sure if this will work in your case.

Quicktime pro and video?

Hi, if I get QT pro, will i abe able to play avi/mpeg etc. videos and transfer them to my IPOD video? I have lots of little videos from my canon camera which play fine in iphoto (not to mention tons of funny videos friends send). I just want to import those videos from iphoto to my IPOD video. Seems like it should be easy? Just confused after reading a lot of posts. Any simple reponse? Will QT Pro do this? And what converter format is best.

You've got a few more hoops to jump through first.
Apple is no longer selling the Pro upgrade for version 6.5.3 (the only version that will run on your system).
You'll have to upgrade to 10.3.9 and buy QuickTime 7 Pro.
Since the video iPods are not shipping it's hard to say just what video formats it will play. Trust that they will be "standards based" so your .avi files are out. As are MPEG 1 or 2 formats.
Your computer will be very slow exporting to the H.264 video codec but may be able to process standard .mp4 files.
If you can view the file now (using QT Player) you should be able to export. MPEG 1 and 2 will require additional software to export.

Quicktime Streaming and Sprites?

Is it possible to make an interactive Quicktime streaming movie with sprites? I have golive if that helps.

If it is a file served by a true "streaming server" some types of tracks are not allowed.
No VR or text tracks. And no sprites. Sorry.
They will only work as downloaded files.

Mac OSX Server Training on DVD/Video?

There are so many cool DVD/Video trainings on the web (like for all the Pro apps and on OSX itself) but I can't seem to find any on OSX Server. Are there any of existance?

When I restored my phone from icloud, half of my pics and videos have been deleted, the pics that were restored on my phone are very blurry, and the videos won't play. I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server". I have erased and reset my phone twice, but every time I do it, more pics and videos are deleted. I have backed up to icloud and iphoto, however, some of the pics are no longer on iphoto either. Is there someway to get the videos to play on my phone again? Make the photos not as blurry as they are now and to restore the pics and videos that have been lost? I really would love to have them back, this phone is supposed to be the best and right now it doesn't seem to be. Please help if you can.

I too have noticed that once i restored from iCloud. Pictures blurry and videos wont play!

Dvd and video formats

Hey...
What format are videos in after they are purchased from itunes?
And what video formats can itunes import?
Is it better to import a file that has already been compressed, or can a file be imported directly from the dvd...like when you rip a cd?

OSX server 10.4 and print logs

When I ran OSX server 10.3, I had nice neat print logs by printer. I could easily tell who printed something if I needed to know. When I went to 10.4 server I lost this ability. The logs are still there but they are listed as "Appletalk: (printer name)" and they are empty. I do not use AppleTalk. The service is not even on in Network preferences, and I do not set my printers up using AppleTalk. I have lost an important feature of the print server with this and don't know what I did incorrectly.

How to add Audio Formats and Video Formats in one movie?

Now that FCP X will not allow different settings how would I change the Audio Format and the Video Format to one movie in Compressor 4?
When I change the Audio to ACC I have a sound file and when I change the Video Format to HD 720 I get the movie but with the original sound.
Any help is always appreciated.

Sorry for this one also. Just finally searched the Inspector windoe in Compressor 4. It is already there.

When exporting to quicktime audio and video out of sync

i am trying to export a small four minute movie to quicktime. the movie plays back fine in the timeline but when i go to export to quicktime, some of the audio and video is out of sync and it semmingly looses a second every now and then. very wierd. the project plays back flawlessly in the timeline, but when i export to quicktime using quicktime conversion the above occours. any tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Quicktime streaming and the Leopard Guest Account

If I set the account to be managed it doesn't work. I cannot access QuickTime streams using Leopard's built in Guest account. If I set the the streaming transport to http I get "403 forbidden", if I set it to udp I get "-3285 Disconnected". Anyone know how to fix this? I do not have the "Website Restrictions" turned on for this account. That is to say, I have the the controls enabled to block specific applications, but I set it to "Allow unrestricted access to websites"
(on this point, you can't NOT have the parentalcontrols proxy running for some, infuriating, reason. If you want to manage which Apps a given account access to, the parentalcontrols proxy is enabled, and cannot be bypassed, even if select not to filter web content)

I believe I have partially fixed the issue.
Disabling Parental Controls in the Guest account when logged into the Guest account does nothing, despite the prompt for an admin username and password. One must log into an admin account directly to turn them off via the Accounts control panel.
Turning Parental Controls off allows us to once again view streaming movies via the Quicktime plug-in in a webpage. Hooray!
However, Parental Controls remains problem, so it behooves Apple to figure out why it is interfering with basic functionality like this. Another issue turning off Parental Controls solved is an issue with Adobe's Flash plug-in in the Panaorama web site, a language learning textbook. With Parental Controls on, the voice recording functionality via Flash is broken, too.

OSX server + Private Network (and NAT) + Airport Extreme: Incompatibility ?

DHCP on Airport Extreme (AE) prevents some private network configuration.
*Imagine the following:*
- An AE that shares a public IP for your private network (NAT) => DHCPd is on (not an option)
- A Mac Mini with snow leopard and some services activated (Calendars, Wiki, Open Directory, ...) and a DNS with a private domain (e.g. you server is called: minisrv1.private)
- Client with account linked to an account on the OSX server
*Your problem:*
You can't activate a DHCP server on your OSX server: it will conflict with the one in your AE.
All your DHCP clients will get your AE address as DNS server and consequently wont be able to resolve any of your private addresses in your private domain
Your server will advertise all it's services with private domain's addresses
*==> All your client machines will get un-reachable services information (like iCal cannot connect to iCal server minisrv1.private)*

I don't believe your analysis is correct.
You're right that when using the AirPort Extreme as an edge router connected to your ISP, and using NAT/DHCP to share its connect, the AE will configure all clients to use the AE as the DNS server (it actually acts as a DNS proxy).
However, it is still entirely possible to use your own, internal, private DNS server for those clients.
You see, the AE has its DNS server configuration in the Internet tab - this is where the AE will direct all DNS lookups, including those from DHCP clients.
Your solution is to just tell the AE to use your internal server for its DNS. That way it will be able to resolve your .private domain, and will enable all DHCP clients to do the same.

OSX Server w/ Parallels and Windows 7

I want to run a specific remote access Windows software on my iMac running OSX Server and Parallels. If the software is installed in Windows, will the OSX Server allow remote access to it?
Altenately, can I install a Windows server (w/ IIS) on the Windows virtual machine?

Yes to both. Just make sure you are not bridging the address from the Mac. Allow the VM instance to have its own IP address. And the remote access software (like RDC) will give you access to the Windows OS but not the Mac. You can use ARD to control the Mac and thus see the Window instance also.

You can create Hyperlinks to internal resources using navto protocol. Just set a hyperlink to URL containing:
navto://articlefolioname#0
This is a link to page 1 of the article.
Video: Use h.264 codec with size of 1024x768px.
