OSX Tiger Freezing and Quiting on me
Hello...
My operating system is acting a bit strange. It temporarily is freezing up on me when I minimize a window or enlarge windows. It is also having difficulty with my mighty mouse's scroll button. When I am using AIM and I scroll using the top scroll button, it seems to freeze up AIM and quit it. The main issue I'm having and is concerning me a great deal is that every so often the whole operating system freezes and the computer tower starts up it's fans very loud and a red light comes on inside the case. I have to manually shut down the computer and restart it. When the desktop reappears, it has a window saying that OSX encountered a problem and had to be shut down... or something to that effect. I have suspected that Firefox is the main problem when this happens.... Can another explain these problems to me? Any suggestions on how to fix them? Thank you
G5 Dual Core OSX Tiger Mac OS X (10.4.4)
What model Mac do you have? Your settings indicate a G-5 Dual Core. There is not such computer. If it is a G-5 I suspect you have an overheating problem. that is the only thing I know of that would cause the red light to come on inside the case.
Have you checked to make sure all the cooling vents are free of dust and debris? HAve you moved the computer recently? Have you changed the air flow to it by adding some new furniture or anything?

Bootcamp overheating/freezing and quitting programs.
I'm having a constant issue with my MacBook Pro 13" intel core 2 duo processor blah blah blah. I have partitioned the HDD to put bootcamp on it cause, let's face it, compared to the other bad excuses of computers (pc's) I have owned and played on, this computer is superior. Well I take that back. I seem to be having an overheating issue. At least I think it is. 90+c. I've read on other sites that this is normal (WHAT??? That's extremely hot so to say that's normal is a falacy) and that I should expect this (seriously?). Anyway all complaining aside, my problem lies with the fact that apps freeze and inevitably quit in bootcamp. I'm not sure why this is considering the ones that do it mostly are not graphic intense nor do they use much CPU.
I'm not even sure if this is hardware related or that the heat is really doing something to it (which in my case I would definitely believe the heat is affecting it a lot more than anything else but what do I know? 90c isn't hot at all for a machine /sarcasm). I would blame the apps except its more than one which is too coincidental. I don't even get any error reports or anything. They just lag out, freeze and quit. No ifs ands or buts. The worst part is I update my drivers and my graphics driver BSOD's everytime I run a flash (YouTube vids are flash right?) vid. I have Windows set in basic mode and very minimal things running (updater and obviously bootcamp but that's usually it) when I'm using these apps. Games are what is doing it it seems. I set graphics low to see if that fixes it. Nope.
I guess what I want to know is, after all this skimming through many pages and not finding any answers, could someone please help me? If not on the crashing then at least on the drivers and heat issue. I really mean it when I say 90c is not a safe temp even if they say it is. With my technical experience (I'm no pro but I know a thing or two) a normal temp when running simple apps should be around 56c max.
Thank you in advance for any helpful information you might have. I hope to be enlightened.I'm having a constant issue with my MacBook Pro 13" intel core 2 duo processor blah blah blah. ICal freezing and quitting because of Google integration?
Hi.
I recently added Google Calendar to my iCal by the normal inputting of my information for my Google account. But now, when I open my iCal, I get this error message:
"The server responded with an error.
The server did not recognize your user name or password for account “GoogleMail.” Make sure you enter them correctly."
I click on OK, then it waits a split second before throwing up the same message, to which I click OK again. After that it freezes and quits. It does this every time. It also means my iPhone has lost all the events that were on the Google Calendar when it syncs with my iCal. How can I get iCal working again?
Any help would be gratefully received!
Thanks.by 'reset' - do you mean remove the account and add it again?
I've tried doing a few things but still getting the same error.
It connects to the server and creates the account and then comes back with the error message:
"The server did not recognize your user name or password for account “***@gmail.com.” Make sure you enter them correctly." -
Recently, every time I open iCal it will just freeze and say that it unexpectedly quit and it will give me the three options (report, ignore and relaunch). I tried restarting but I am getting the same problem.
Any resolutions?I am having the same problem. Running Tiger (10.4.11, latest updates, etc.) on a PowerBook. Can not open iCal now. It works when I open it by logging in as another user, so I know that there's a working copy of iCal on my computer. How do I open it and fix the problem?
I have spent a lot of time fiddling with this. Everything went wrong around the time of the switch from dotMac to MobileMe.
Any suggestions? -
Export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign freezes and quits
I keep trying to export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign keeps freezing up and quitting. This is the first time it's done this, I have never had a problem before.I recently added Suitcase Fusion to my computer and wondered if this was the cause, or if there is something else wrong.
Try disabling the suitcase plugin and see if it continues (you'd probably have other problems, too, though, if it's the culprit). Often it's a bit of bad text or an image. See Adobe Community: File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other for lots of troubleshooting tips.

Programs freezing and quitting when certain messages pop up
I have been having this problem a lot recently. Garageband is one of the worst. For example, I will try to start a new project. The usual little pop-up appears asking if I want to Save, not save, or cancel, nothing unusual about this. Before i can even answer, though, the program freezes then quits. This happens in many programs such as I-tunes, garageband, Text edit, Photoshop... I can't even name them all. Is it possible i accidentally deleted a system file that is causing this problem.
This is the crash log for a program called live. I was thrilled to learn it had the same problem.......

DVD Player freezes and quits midway through movie
Hello,
I tried to find a topic like this already in existence, but I had no luck, so I decided to post one of my own. Today my DVD Player has been acting up. I rented a couple of DVDs from Blockbuster and tried to watch them on my computer. The one I watched yesterday worked fine. Today, however, the player froze up and went to spinning beach ball of death about halfway through the movie. It suggested I check the DVD for scratches, and I did, but it's fine. Just in case, though, I tried to put in another movie. This time, the DVD got through the previews and to the menu before doing the same thing. Can somebody give me an idea as to what is going on and how I can fix it? Is my computer just 'tired' from being on all day?Yup same problem here, started after I upgraded to 10.6.4 in late June, when my MacBook Pro was less than 2 months old.
Apple replaced the optical drive, same problem.
The fix can be easy such as restarting the DVD player or ejecting the disc and putting it back in, to rebooting the laptop. When it won't read the disc at all I have to do an optical drive reset, which always fixes the problem, for awhile anyway.
I've struggled with trying to duplicate the problem- I've been in to the genius bar four times now and they say they can't do anything more until I can duplicate it. I've done an archive install, they suggest a clean install which I'm reluctant to do at this point.
It seems to be related to-
1) how long the computer has been running since the last reboot- a day of surfing increases chances of error
2) power- if I go on battery power for awhile I'll almost always get a quits unexpectedly. That seems to be the start of a downward slide, where eventually it won't read a disc at all. It's also telling that an optical drive reset, which resets the power to the optical drive, always fixes the problem.
Turns out the power cord was slowly going south, which multiplied the number of dvd errors. Apple gave me a new power cord late August and the dvd errors are less frequent, tho still 2-3x/week.
The quits unexpectedly errors are usually SIGSEGV and SIGBUS. -

iTunes. 10.6.3 VersionHello, J Appleseed.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can try an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes to see if that resolves the issue. Your iTunes library will not be deleted by doing this. However, this issue could be a result of multiple issues so an uninstall/reinstall may not resolve this. Below, I have included the best articles that will help you isolate and possibly correct this issue. Process each step and test the results after each step processed.

Tiger freezes and displays black box to restart
I just did a fresh install of Tiger a week ago on a clean drive. Last weekend I downloaded some ROMs for MacMame. I visited some sites and they had this page where you had to click to proceed to download. I kept doing it and doing it, but never got to the page. Now I'm afraid I downloaded a virus or something with the ROMs messed up my computer as the problem happened after this. I already ran Disk Utility and the drive is repaired. Any ideas on what I can do?
I'm not aware of any virus that'll cause what you're seeing. There are very few, if any, that affect Macs. Since you've just started playing with it, reinstall the OS, make a bootable backup/clone to another HD (use Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, SilverKeeper, etc.), and see if you can repeat the problem. Internal HDs (60-130 GBs are usually available for under $100). I recommend Seagate or Hitachi for reliability.

TS1702 Anyone else's iPad 2 freezing and quitting since upgrading to iOS 6?
Help? Anyone else's iPad wiggling out since the iOS upgrade?
Seems like my iPad 2 started having problems after upgrading to iOS 6.1.2. Mainly my home button isn't working all the time and sometimes the touch screen seems unresponsive or blacks out.

Desktop background options pane freezes and quits
The title is pretty self-explanatory: I have an early 2009 iMac, purchased in May, and I've only started having problems in the last 24 hours, when I go to change desktop backgrounds. The pane appears, and is immediately unresponsive, and crashes less than a minute later. This has now happened a total of 10 times in a row.
A similar discussion post from another user was solved when someone recommended installing the iLife Support 9.0.3 patch. I installed the patch and restarted, and the problem persists.
This seems to be a common issue. Thanks for any help—for now I guess I'll just put up with my current background.Never mind, it seems after some sputtering and additional crashes, the problem resolved itself—presumably because of the iLife 9.0.3 patch I installed.

OSX Firefox freezes when trying to play youtube videos on facebook.
When I click on embedded youtube videos on facebook, OSX firefox freezes, and I need to force quit. Everything is up to date, and this problem has been going on for at least two updates.
Hey virus1244,
Have you looked at the Knowledge Base article [[Managing the Flash plugin#w_playing-flash-videos-makes-firefox-hang|Managing the Flash plugin]]? It has a section on resolving freezing issues. This might be what you are looking for.
Hopefully this helps! -
My iTunes freezes and crashes whenever I try to burn a CD
It hits about a quarter way through the progress bar for preparing the playlist to be burned, and then iTunes freezes and quits every single time. Help?
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. -
IPhoto 6.06 freezes and will not quit
iPhoto freezes and will not quit each time I open it. I recently upgraded to 6.06 but the problem remains. My photo library is just over 3GB.
What should I do?Those gray squares with the "!" in the middle indicates that the library has lost the link to the original files. It can be caused by moving or renaming files/folder in the iPhoto Library folder via the Finder or an interruption of some sort while the Library6.iPhoto database file is being written to.
Since you've tried rebuilding the library without success you'll have to start over with a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Photoshop was been working fine for just under a year and all the functions have worked as they should but all of a sudden every time i use the Select tool (Auto select tool) it just just freezes and the loading wheal come up (only a very small part of the picture selects before it freezes). I then have to fource quit out of photoshop, then i can open it up again and it will just do the same? I need a quick fix as i am doing Photography for an A-level and i need photoshop for my exam. Can anyone help?
You should update your operating system to OSX 10.10.1 or better still the latest version 10.10.2
After updating the OS it’s also best to trash the prefs.
Quit PSE12 if its running.
Launch Finder and find the user Library by clicking the Go menu whilst holding down the Optn (alt) key (n.b. the library is hidden until you press the optn key) and inside the Library folder select the preferences folder. Then trash the following files:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 settings
