OSX update wont install

The new OSX update (10.6.6) would not finishing "writing" files even if i leave the MacBook Pro running for days.!!
what shall I do.?

Details in the following.
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

If you only have a Time Machine backup, ensure that you can reliably restore it to another disk/volume/partition before updating/upgrading.

has anyone had this problem, or does anyone know a solution?

I'm having this same problem. After installing Logic Studio last night I ran Software Update which updated my software but skipped ProApplications Update 2007-1. It went straight to ProApplications Update 2007-2 and told me there was an error installing Update 2007-1. So I came here, downloaded Updated 2007-1 on its own and installed it without a problem. Now whenever I run Software Update it tries to install ProApplications Updated 2007-2 but tells me there is an error. I tried the link to the update and am redirected to a Final Cut Studio page and asked for my Final Cut Studio serial number--but I don't have Final Cut Studio. I have Logic Studio.
Any suggestions on how to rectify this?

  • Can't repair disk permissions, System Updates wont install

    Hi there,
I wondered, why any system update wont install on my MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.5.5. So I tried to repair disk permissions which causes an error that calls something like "there is an error in quitting the process" (sorry ... have only the german version, so this is nearly what it says).
Repairing the permissions from a Leopard DVD ends up the same way.
    Repairing the harddisk works fine.
Updating the 10.5.5 Combo Update quits with an error that says "The Installation package couldn't install some of the files in "/". Contact the Manufacturer."
Any ideas what this could be ? Thought it startet a couple of days ago with the installation of a new Java Version, but I'm not sure if this causes any problems.
    Thanks for any suggestions

    ok,
I've found this in the logfiles:
Started verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s2 Macintosh HD
Error -9972: The underlying task reported failure on exit
Finished verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s2 Macintosh HD
Error detected while verifying/repairing permissions on disk0s2 Macintosh HD: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
Repairing the keychains worked fine but didn't solve the problem at all.

  • Aurora update wont install

Aurora is trying to install update 30.0a2. It downloads a 3.4 mB file but the install fails. It then downloads the 36mb file which still wont install.
If I try and download from scratch I run the file firefox-30.0a2.en_US.win32.installer-stub.exe. When that runs I get a message in 7 -zip "cannot create temp archive folder"
    where next

    Hi,
Have you tried running the install file as Administrator? Right click > Run as administrator
Also, try downloading the full version instead of the compressed installer
    *http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/
You want the ''firefox-30.0a2.en-US.win32.installer.exe'' located near the bottom.
P.S. This error message comes from the stub file that tries to unpack the archive to start the installation and creates a folder in the temp folder to do this and seems to fail to complete this operation.

  • Reformatted Computer but Software Updates Wont Install

I just took my macbook pro to the apple store yesterday and they said there was a software issue and they wiped out the whole computer. I got it back and reinstalled the applications disc and did a software update but it wont install. The error message says that the files could have been corrupted during downloading and it will check for updates the next time around....i tried about 3 times and the same result. any suggestions?

Which application discs and software updates are you writing about? Are these 3rd-party apps or the Apple supplied ones? Are the updates from the Software Update program? Did you try checking SU out at the store? Do you have a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous installation? Many missing details.

  • Mac Os 9.1 update wont install

Well I got the update from here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
and when I transfered the file to the desktop it tells me this
"The documentMacOS_9.1Update.smi.bin[] could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found." My iMac is a G3 CRT and its running 9.0.4

    Hi, Frank -
One of the differences between OS 9 download updates and installing off of a CD is that the download updates do not include any ability to install or update Language Kits.
There is a major change of Language Kit versions betwen OS 9.0.4 (and earlier) and OS 9.1 (and later) - the earlier version Language Kits are not usable in OS 9.1. When using an OS 9.1 Install CD, any installed kits can be updated; however, since the OS 9.1 download updater does not include that ability, they will refuse to run.
The primary solution is to use an OS 9.0.4 or earlier OS 9 Install CD to remove the Language Kits. Since you apparently do not have such a CD, you will need to use a different method.
    • Restart the machine, immediately press the Option and Spacebar keys, keep them held down until the desktop has fully loaded. This will prevent the OS from loading any installed Language Kits.
    • Locate and open the System file - it is loose in the System Folder; just double-click that file.
    • In that file will appear three types of files: keyboard layouts, represented by a document icon with a glyph of a keyboard added to it; sound files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a speaker added to it; and Worldscript files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a globe added to it.
    • Drag all of the Worldscript files (the ones with a globe on the icon) out of the System file. You could save them in an external folder; but, since they will not be re-usable in OS 9.1 or later, there's little point in doing that - throwing them away is okay.
    • Close the System file, then do a normal restart.
You should now be able to install the OS 9.1 update.
Note - if you do need to have certain Language Kits installed, you will need to acquire a retail OS 9.1 Install CD - there is no other source for them (they are not available as downloads).

  • Updates wont install

    updates won't install

    Hi jamb,
ExportPDF is a separate from Reader, and there are no updates to install there, as it's a web-based application. What version of reader do you have X or XI? I would suggest uninstalling the version of Reader that you have, and reinstalling the latest update from www.adobe.com/products/reader.html.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Software Updates wont install - it just reboots when try to

    Hi!
Suddenly after no problem since 2007 I have this issue that when updates are presented via Software Updates, those updates that i have to click on "restart" button, wich loggs me out and then the updates supposed to install - but! Before they install the system just reboots as if the updates couldnt install and then my Mac just reboots. So for a time now i have to install the updates manually, wich is annoying.
Anyone heard of this before? Tried to repair permissons but no luck

Repair permissions is in Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility under the First Aid section. You have to select the hard drive icon within Disk Utility to get Repair permissions to be possible to select. Most updates don't need it. Occasionally when you install new software issues may arise that make permissions go bad, which affects future software updates. This is the pitfall of using any third party software that most users learn about. It might never progress because of permissions, or a hard disk that is too full, or a corrupt download if you don't have high speed internet to get it from.

  • New updater wont install

so, im having problems with the 2006-01-10 like many people. ive tried everything i can and everything on this website that was suggested. im trying to get rid of all ipod and itunes software, and i think i did. however everytime i try to install the 2005-11-17 updater, it installs the 2006-01-10 updater instead. i know that this updater isnt installed anywhere on my computer, and i dont even have itunes anymore. this problem has been going on for a while, is apple even acknowledging this as a problem? if so, will there be a new update to correct there problems? is there any hope of saving my ipod, can anyone help me?!?!

Just to add to the advice already given:
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • OSX Tiger wont install on iMac G5  17" (2006)

    hi all
I am trying to update my bosses' iMac G5 from OSX 10.3 to OSX Tiger 10.4.7 and it's hanging up at restart up with Garbled error text. Some of the text appeared in Japanese. Is this a firmware or Apple hardware issue? My boss does have the installer Disk 1&2. What can it be?
    Thanks
    Jim

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A and M9639Z/A . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray).
Also check this web store http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521
Possible Alternative - OS X Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD $74.95

  • OSX Maverick WONT INSTALL!

I have downloaded OSX Maverick but when i try to install it it says  "Update requires version osx 10.9''. Isn't Maverick 10.9?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have downloaded OS X 10.9.1 from the Apple website, and that's an OS X 10.9 update.
Instead, you need to open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks from there. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X Mavericks installer will appear, so follow the steps. You will have OS X 10.9.1 after upgrading
