OSX will not remember my windows network login and password

I have had this problem since starting at my current office. (Over 12 months.)  I inherited a computer from a previous staff person.  Each of my computers have been Macs. (3 different computers in 13 months.)  We are mostly a Mac computer office but our Active Directory and File Server are both Window PC's. BOOO!
Whenever I try to log in to the file server I get the request for the my network user name and password.  The window already has a user name but it's not mine.  It is the user name of a previous user of my original computer (From 13 months ago.).  I say original computer because I now have my thrid computer which I migrated from the first and second one.  I'm sure whatever the problem it is has come along with each migration.
I have looked in my Keychain Access and found the network password item for the file server.  When I opened it my username and password are correct.
So... where do I go from here?  Thanks for your help.

Try this:
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.

  • Firefox will not remember last window size

I am using Firefox 32.0.2 on a Windows 7 computer.
Starting yesterday when a new window opens it will not remember the window size. It always opens to a small window that takes up about 1/4 of the screen. It should remember the last window size used and open new windows to that size.
I have not changed anything on the computer since it last worked that I am aware of (it is a work computer so IT could have done something).
I have already done a reset and deleted and recreated localstore.rdf.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may have a corrupt '''localstore.rdf''' file.

  • OSX will not remember WPA selection

Our wireless network requires 802.1X authentication and is running both WPA and WPA2. I have configured the network and internet connection settings to use WPA because OS X will not request an IP address via DHCP with WPA2 (it will connect and authenticate, but thats all if will do). I managed twice to get the network setting to keep the WPA selection, but OSX keeps switching it back to WPA2. If I had to guess it appears to be detecting the availability of WPA2 and making the switch on its own (even though I do not want it to). I have tried deleting the wireless and internet connection settings, but it makes no difference. Any ideas on how to get around this?

First, setup a new Location in Network just for WPA... sometimes a used Location, especially the Automatic one gets confused with past settings, since it keeps all of them in plista.
If that doesn't work, and you have the settings written down, you might try trashing...
/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences... the whole Prefs folder there.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration... the whole SysConfig folder.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
Reboot... of course you dont have to trash them, you can just move them to the desktop to drag back if it doesn't work.

  • New firefox will not remember my hotmails email addresses or passwords

the newer firefox (4) will not store my email addresses or passwords on msns hotmail. everytime i go to logon it has already forgotten my email address and i have to type it all in again

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.<br />

I called support about the same issue. Since your accounts can be linked to several functions of the touchpad, you mot only have to delete and recreate the account, but you have to also delete the account in places like calendar, photos and music at least that was what worked according to the rep. It did not, however work for me.
W'hat did wind up working was a Luna restart, powering on the device while holding the center button and the power button at the same time. Restarting this way takes a little extra time on the boot-up.
What I finally wound up doing was setting my cell not to automatically check for new messages, as my server was recognizing the attempts from different devices as a security issue and blocking the second attempt by phone or TP, Haven't had an issue since.
That bug needs to be fixed and the notify should go away once you enter proper credentials.
    I'm just sayin'!
Just so you know, holding the Center button and Power button does not inititate a Luna restart.  It actually initiates a full reboot of the TouchPad.  A Luna restart is just a restart of the UI (user interface).  A Luna restart is very fast compared to a full reboot, probably less than 30 seconds ro so.

  • Firefox will not remember the window position

I have tried all the suggestions including deleting the rft file and opening in safe mode and redoing settings. I cannot make this browser remember the position I want it in.

I have a similar problem, which could even be related.

  • Firefox will not remember my hotmail user id and doesn't offer a box to do so it works in IE

Very frustrating. FF started acting up a couple of days ago. It began by showing my user id in hotmail. The next time I checked mail, (I had not shut down the computer) it was blank. I filled it in and then my password. When I shut off the computer and tried the next day. It asked if I wanted to remember my log in name. I said, Yes. After that, FF never remembered my user name and never provided a box to do so. I had not changed anything in FF since downloading 5.o several weeks ago.
It works fine in IE. I cannot find any answer anywhere that offers a fix. I even uninstalled 5.o and reinstalled. It still doesn't work.

I don't know if I can help but I have firefox and IE 8 and hotmail doesn't remember my username on either browser or computer. Seems to have occured about 2 weeks ago. I tried allowing cookies, changing security settings, etc. with no luck. my oS is XP and on laptop is windows 7.
i just wanted to let you know I am having problems with this also. I will bookmark this page and add to it if I have any luck. Please let me know if you find a solution.

On re-install it wouldn't do it, going to a box saying Administrator and asking for a password. Used normal computer login one and others but it just stopped doing anything. Tried to run it clicking normal user but again nothing. Have e-mails on 2nd computer but need it on this one as the main and new one.

This is a known bug for Flash Builder 4.5 and 4.6.
It will be fixed in next version of Flash Builder.
The workaround for Flash Builder 4.5 & 4.6 is to download both 32-bit & 64-bit debug player.

  • Why does firefox want a login and password

I deleted firefox and tried Bing now I have deleted Bing and have redownloaded firefox but it will not open I wants a logon and password. How can I fix this

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • WIndows 7 and Server2008 machines will not remember network discovery preferences, requires setting every start up or wake up.

    hello
I wondered if anybody here could be so kind as to help me solve this situation
i have two Windows 7 machines and Server2008 machines will not remember network discovery preferences,
i am running software on the windows server machine that collects data and serves information to two windows 7 machines, and network discovery is required for this purpose
these machines are configured in a local stand alone network configured as a workgroup the only other items on network are none PC based equipment that the server happily communicates with and reads data from
once the network discovery is set for the network the system runs as expected but on every start-up (or wake up) the network discovery is lost and need to be re allowed. this is the case in both windows server 20008 r2 and windows 7
how do i make these preferences permanent. so that it will restart and re establish communication its self without intervention
am i missing a setting or if not  is there a way i can script the the selection of preference on each start(/wake)up.
the final user need to be able to turn system on/restart and use it with out having to have any IT/networking knowledge to get system running.
thank you for taking the time to read my query

You can use group policy to enable network discovery so that it is always configured
    1. In the Group Policy editor on a Win7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, open the GPO that you want
to use in the Group Policy Editor.
    2. Expand "Computer Configuration", "Windows Settings", "Security Settings", "Windows Firewall with Advanced
Security", and then "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security - {policy you have open}".
3 Right-click "Inbound Rules", and then click "New Rule".
4 In the Rule Wizard, on the Rule Type page, select"Predefined", and then select Network Discovery from
    the list.  Click Next.
5 On the Predefined Rules page, ensure that the check box is on each rule that is part of the Network
Discovery group, and then click Next.
6 On the Action page, select "Allow the Connection", and then click Finish.

  • Why will finder not remember the window size that I set it to?

Every time I open finder I have to drag it out to the size I want it. It will not remember the size I put it at. How do I get it to remember. MBA Mid-2011 with Lion installed 10.7.4.
If I restart it its back to a real small size again and with a 11" MBA that is small.

I don't think it's a Lion issue, as I have no such problems.  But the way window positions work is a bit hard to grasp, as it can depend as much on how you get a particular window open as on the folder you're choosing to view.
If you can double-click your hard drive icon on the desktop and get the window position and view to stick, but after a restart it has forgotten that position and view when performing the same action, then you can try deleting the invisible .DS_Store file inside the relevant folder (in this case, at the root of the hard drive).
