OSX Wont Boot. Black Screen looped start sound

My MacBook Pro 15" is running OSX 10.5.8 I belive, with also Windows Vista on boot camp. Windows boots fine but when I hold the option key Mac does not show. That menu is extremely laggy. After awhile EFIBoot comes up. I have tried booting windows and telling it to restart in OSX but when I do that it stays at a black screen and the startup sound loops with static. After about 30 seconds to a minute it will boot windows. It worked fine a couple days ago.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The 1st thing to do is when you have the machine started in Windows insert your original Apple installation disk, then restart holding the c-key from the shutdown black screen until you see the grey Apple logo. Let it boot up until you see the 'Select your language' screen, then select English and click Continue. On the screen that comes next select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu at the top. Click on your Apple partition of the hard drive and choose Repair Disk.
If when this has finished it has indicated errors and that they have been corrected rerun this part. If no further errors are found you should probably run Repair permissions. provided this finishes with Permission repair complete (or something similar) quit DU and Quit Installer and see if it starts into the regular Apple mode.
If it indicates that it is unable to repair the disk get back to us for further help.
Let's know the result either way.

  • T60 froze. wont boot. black Screen

    Hello.
    My T60 2007 QPG froze.
Pushed the power button to shut down.
Now it wont boot: fan starts then stops, just a blank black screen, no beep or beep sequence.
After reading the board i removed cmos battery, ram, hdd: no beep indicating an error.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

    Hello mate,
If you have no beep when you remove the RAM, your motherboard is dead.

  • HT1338 Wont boot (black screen)

Hi my mac are really slow when it boots, some times i get a black screen.
The hardware starts but no boot and the screen remains black.
    Pls help

I have reinnstalled my mac one day ago but got the same problem

    Hello Fredrik,
Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.

  • OSX wont boot - grey screen

Hi, I turned on my imac g4 15" 700mhz today to find that it wont boot osx at all!
When i start up the computer, i hear the chime, the light comes on and i hear the fan, hd etc. Then, the grey screen appears with a central finder logo (Which is normal, i think). This is when the computer freezes....HELP....WHAT CAN I DO?
I have tried several things suggested on the support pages such as booting from the cd which wouldn't allow me to do anthing - even re-install osx!

Not to get off the subject of the original post too much, but:
    James,
I've encounted the same problem today on my work computer (a G5 Dual 2.5ghz). You'll likely have to do the same thing i did to recover your data:
Remove the drive, mount in another computer (you mentioned that you tried to firewire it to another G4). Instead, actually remove the drive from your machine and install in the other G4. Boot the other G4. Hopefully the drive will mount as a secondary drive. If so, back up your data. If not, run Disk Utility "Repair Disk" on it. You may have to run a third party app like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior. Doing that should fix the drive enough for you to get the data off.
Even if it does, you should probably flatten the drive and do a clean install of the OS. Make sure you run Disk Utility again off the installer disk to insure the drive is competely repaired.
Worst case, you buy a new drive is you are worried about it crashing again. Either way, you should be able to get to your data with a little work.

  • IMac wont boot--black screen.

I have 2 iMacs (1.8gHz). Im familiar with the display problem with lines and artifacts.
So I sent both boards to a guy on ebay who fixes (replaces) the leaking capacitors for $50. (I wasnt going to pay $1000 to Apple)
I put installed the MBboards back in both Imacs.
One booted fine then to a crazy lined screen and froze. Subsequent restarts it got worse till now it sounds like its starting but NO display, just black.
The other iMac makes the start chime, then just seems to go dead to a black screen.
I order 2 inverter boards on eBay (new). Installed both.
Now both iMacs sound like they are running but display is totally black...
    Whats going on? Stumped.

    Steve-
Has your black screen iMac situation been resolved? I too have a very similar problem currently:

Moved to https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133091.0 with more information
    Thanks

    Hi there!
My computer broke down a couple of week's ago and i have been using my laptop meanwhile.
Now i finally got some new parts to my computer.
    So the current computer:
    AMD Athlon X2 250, 3,0 ghz, AM3, 2MB, 65W
    MSI GF615M-P33, Socket-AM3, m-ATX, GeForce 6150se, DDR3, SATA II, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
    Sahpire Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express 2.0, DVI-I, native-HDMI, HDCP, Lite-Retail
    Kingston ValueR. DDR3 1333MHz 4GB, CL9, Kit w/two Matched ValueRAM 2GB DDR3
    Samsung HD501LJ, 500GB, 7200rpm, 16M
Windows XP Pro 32 bit, right now, will upgrade later to Windows 7 Ultimate.
    Huntkey Delcato PSU-422 450W DC Output: "+5V=35A(RED), 12V1=15A(YELLOW), +3.3V=30A(ORANGE), +12V2=17A(YELLOWBLACK), -12V=0.5A(BLUE), +5Vsb=2.0A(PURPLE), PG(GREY)
So the problem is that when i inserted all of my components and then just went to boot it, it gave me 3 beeps and a black screen.
My flatmate has the same motherboard and i tried the RAM, CPU and Video card on it, and it worked fine with one beep and i got a screen and came to BIOS.
I tried his RAM, CPU and Video Card on my motherboard and it still gave me 3 beeps and no screen.
So i have no clue how to troubleshoot anymore.
Tell me if you need anymore information
    Please help me!
    Thanks in advance!!

  • BLACK SCREEN on start up with 3 beeps, FREEZES when power unplugged, IF IT BOOTS splash screen freezes, OVERHEATING REQUIRED TO BOOT - 0x7B, Event 41 kernel-power

Issue: One day I unplug the power, the screen freezes and I get frozen music sound. I shut down, start up, I get 3 beeps (1 short 2 long), which indicates a Video failure according to the Thinkpad Laptop beep code list.
How I solve the issue day-to-day: I turn the heat up - I disconnect the battery and hard drive and plug in the power then turn it on. I will wait until the underneath is searing hot with a blanket blocking the fan's flow of air, I mean way hot because any
cooler and it won't start. Plug stuff back in, Hard drive first, Battery second, turn off with power button hold, unplug power, replug power.
I turn it on, no beeps, it goes past the first Lenovo screen, then gives me a prompt because it "didn't shut down properly" and continue regular startup. What happens next is the Windows logo appears,
and just as the animated windows logo starts to move (you see 2 small colored dots on the screen), it freezes. I see this every time, I know naturally that it means that the laptop is still too hot to go past that point, so I shut it down and try again. After
about 5 - 10 tries it will go past the splash screen and into the login area, then it's all fine.
Sometimes when I unplug the power from the back by accident it will freeze. By accident I mean that the connector wiggles it's self out easily. This unplug freezing thing started happening about 1 week before the 3 beep black screen problem started rolling,
    so I'm putting 2 together.
           Errors:
I got a Blue Screen of Death the first time I started it up with the overheating ritual, but I never got it since. It was 0X7B.
I got another Blue Screen of Death about a week ago, but came as it was on already and I had been using it, and said something about disabling Cache or Shadowing in BIOS. I never got it since.
           Event Viewer events found:
    1. Kernel-Power, Summary page.
There are critical events for a few things like Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category (63). There are 19 of them, each day 1 or 2 of them but mostly 1, so this maybe corresponds to my daily ritual.
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
    2. Kernel-Processor-Power - Event ID 37, task category (7)
"The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."
    3. LMS - HCMI - Event ID 2, Task Category: none
"LMS Service cannot connect to HECI driver".
I came across a very sluggish performing control panel for Nvidia before and after this problem, and I tried installing a newer version, which I had to jump through a few hoops to do, like uninstalling first, not just updating. At first it said that the
driver wasnt for the system, which was wrong. I made it work somehow, but it was still sluggish. I rolled it back to an earlier driver, and now it works fine. No sluggish performance / slight freeze window thing going on.
MSCONFIG.exe, Boot Advanced Options: I have tried twice to change this 1 setting, check box "Number of processors" and change to 2 processors, because I do have 2 processors. I have been able to change
this in the past, but it does not save the setting now, and I believe this option was selected before I started having problems, and settings did not disappear then.
What could this be. The small round BIOS battery? The video card like everyone presumes? (I.E. the entire motherboard replacement), Software? The wiggly power input area? (Not enough power getting in?), Firmware of some sort? The BIOS software being wrong?

Please excuse the small text at the beginning, there isn't an option to un-do that error.

You are very wrong about that mystified. What do YOU think made my computer work without beeping at all hu? (I bet you're gonna tell me). I figured it out.
    RE-INSTALL WINDOWS 7 OS.
    SOLVED.
    DOESN'T BEEP ANY MORE.

  • Imac will not boot. black screen, no sounds.. but has power.

Hi guys, yesterday my mac would not boot. The screen is black, and the power light on the bottom right hand corner is on. My warranty expired 30 days ago (figures). I stupidly put in a CD to see if the player had power and it did (now I can't get it out). I can hear the fan on, and the DVD drive spinning. I have no chimes or sounds. I removed the memory and started the machine... same thing except the power light started flashing. I put the memory back in and powered it up.. same as before solid light, black screen, and no sounds. I unplugged the unit for a day which did not help. ANY help would be appreciated!
    Imac - Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

First, boot and hold down mouse key to get CD out. then,
    Try this.
Turn on Mac and hold down command-S (Apple S), it will boot into single user mode (white on black). Let it finish.
When it is done type the following.
    fsck -fy
then hit return. It will check the disk and make repairs. It can take several minutes. If it finds errors it will fix and say OK. If so, type fsck -fy and run it again. This time if it doesn't find any errors type
    reboot
Hopefully it will boot into OS X.

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
    Delete ALL your email accounts.
    Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON.  Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery.

  • Presario f700 black screen at start up,

presario f700 black screen at start up, if left  to own it flashes hard drive light once fan starts then turns off the starts again can get it to stop this sequence by pressing certain keys but screen always stays black and remote screen does not turn on. Have tried removing memory, hard reset, removed ram, have tested hard drive out of device. Anything else I can try.
Book says 15secs for a hard reset, one post said 30secs, which is correct

Hi, 30 secs is the better of the two options there. I am assuming the Hard drive tested fine? You can try turning the computer on with out the hard drive in it and see if you atleast get some text saying not bootable device or if you are able to boot into BIOS. If this does not happen you can switch out the ram chips. (boot with one chip then take it out and boot with the other) see if these work. If these steps fail its more than likly more of a hardware issue with the systemboard.
While I may work for HP, my posts and replies are my own and should not be mistaken for statments made by HP as a whole.

  • Black screen and no sound with iTunes rentals.

I was going to chalk this up to just a corrupt download, but it's happening too much for mere coincidence now. I rented Captain America: The First Avenger in HD on my Windows 7 machine, only to find that when I tried to play it, I got nothing more than a black screen with no sound. I chalked it up to bad luck and went back to my day, only a few days later, I tried again, only to find the exact same problem had occurred with the exact same movie. I called Apple Support and told them of the problem, and while they refunded my purchases (and gave me 3 free movie rentals), they proposed no solution.
So I tried renting Iron Man 3 today, and the same thing happened. This doesn't occur with any other movies that I own trying to play in iTunes, just with rentals. I've already tried a reinstall, which did nothing, and I'm out of ideas.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

Yeah! Problem solved: It's a QT issue.
Cause: Mac Update Software downloaded a faulty QT.
Solution: Download QT from Apple's QT site.
Great to have the Video back

All my downloaded (digital copies from dvds) won't play in itunes. I get a black screen and no sound, but the time keeps moving. How do i fix this?

    Hi 22chill,
I recommend that we delete and re-download the movie from your purchase history:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Why do I get a black screen and no sound when playing video in iTunes 8?

Just downloaded the new iTunes. I don't have any video playback when I click preview in the store. No video when I try to play anything that I've already downloaded. The play cursor moves but I have a black screen with no sound. I'm hoping this is just a temporary glitch.
Any recommendations? I'm using the latest version of Leopard 10.5.4 on an Intel iMac.
