OSX, XP (on Bootcamp). Same iTunes library??

This question has probably been asked before, but is it possible for iTunes to share the same library, ie using for eg a FAT32 formatted partition or external hard drive? I know that NTFS refuses to talk to HFS (and almost vice versa). Any software perhaps?
My work demands PC applications, and it gets very boring not having my iTunes library to listen to while working.
I suppose I should get an iPod? However my wife would probably force me to eat my Mac if I indulged in yet another Apple product!!
Tom

Yes, it's possible, and if you're running iTunes 7, it's easy. Just drag the entire iTunes folder to your desired location. Then in iTunes in Mac OS X, hold down the Option key while launching iTunes. You'll be given a dialog box where you can select the iTunes library you want to use. Navigate to and select the iTunes folder in it's new location. Boot from Windows and repeat the process, holding down the Shift key rather than the Option key.

A different approach would be to get Parallels Workstation. That would allow you to run Windows and WIndows applications without having to reboot your system; Parallels runs as a process within Mac OS X. Then you can use both Mac OS X and Windows applications simultaneously. The latest version of Parallels allows it to boot Windows from a BootCamp partition, so you can run Windows either way at any time, depending on your needs.

  • 2  Mac's sharing the same itunes library?

2 Mac’s sharing the same itunes library?
I would like to use the same existing itunes music folder I have on a external drive, connected to one of my machines?
I can share without any problem the drive from my laptop and can share/view the other machines itunes music through itunes on my laptop, but can not set the music folder on my laptops Itunes to be the same as on the machine that the external drive is connected to.
I have heard and seen this operation before but how do I do it ?

You lost me on which machine is which and where the library is stored. If the library is on an external drive connected to Computer 1 and you want to access it on Computer 2 then:
    1. Connect to computer 1 using the Finder on Computer 2 and mount the external drive
    2. Open iTunes on Computer 2
    3. Select iTunes -> Preferences
    4. Select the Advanced tab
    5. Select Change next to iTunes Music Folder Location
    6. Navigate to the folder where the music is stored.
    7. Quit iTunes
    8. Open iTunes with the OPTION key held down.
    9. When prompted navigate to the Library file on Computer 1.
That should do it. As always, back up the Library file before you start this process. I would also recommend you back it up regularly as if you have a network issue while accessing the library file remotely, it could corrupt it.

  • Can 2 different computer accounts share the same Itunes library?

Does anyone know: Is it possible for two users on the same computer to "SHARE" the same iTunes Library so you don't have to duplicate libraries on the hard disk?
So far I have been having to load 25GB of Music on my wife's account and the same 25GB itunes library on my account.
I have put the single iTunes files in the "PUBLIC" music folder and set that as the default on the ITUNES "Preferences" but still does not work for some reason.
    Thanks

Yes sir, did that but it still has the same problem.
Now when I go to my wife's account (everything identical , playlists, etc. in both accounts) it does not know where to locate the songs. I place it in the default and it works, but as soon as I go back to the other persons account, the default has automatically changed back, and none of the playlists (although still intact) have again lost the location of the actual music (located on in the Public Music folder) very frustrating.
It would seem to be simple.

  • How can i get the same itunes library on 2 macs

  • Can two computers use same iTunes library on a network drive?

Can two computers use directly (rather than share) the same iTunes library on a network drive?
My media library is on a network drive attached to my Airport Extreme. Right now I share the library with my desktop Mac. I can share fine, but I would like to be able to add, delete, and make other changes in the media library from both computers. The two computers would not be accessing the library at the same time as I am the sole user of both.

I appreciate your input and I think you're right about this being impossible. But just to clarify, you say I can't "have multiple machines accessing the same music files from a shared location." I can have multiple machines accessing the same music files from a shared location--I just can't have them accessing the same music files simultaneously--which may have been what you meant. For my situation, I think it will be less work to just quit iTunes on my server when I want to run it on my client (using Chicken of the VNC). It's not ideal, but it's less time-consuming than periodically syncing three computers.
    Again, thanks for the input.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Yes you can use two (or more) AppleTVs with one iTunes library. They can both stream from iTunes (or the internet) at the same time, as long as you have a good working LAN and internet connection.

  • HT1535 I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my i

I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Question.....
"I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my iPod?"
    Answer.....
Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

I want to have the same itunes library and playlists on the same computer with the two different Os 10.3.9 and 10.4.9 each one on the different disk. without copy this in the itunes folder (because my library its 30Gb)
I have the same user name on the Os. I use the same version of itunes in both systems
I use my ipod to play the library but its not the best solution (i lost my library in ipod twice because I confused from what os was synchronized)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Amalgamate the two iTunes libraries. Then load iTunes and hold down the Option/Alt ⌥ key and then choose "Choose Library" and then point both copies of iTunes to use the combined iTunes library.
