OSx Yosemite Recovery Upgrade

Prior to installing this upgrade on the 14 April 2015 the apple logo appeared immediately on my MAC Book Air now it takes some 30seconds or so to appear. Why is this? is it due to background updates or a bug in the upgrade.
Once the Apple logo appears it runs quickly as before?

I upgraded to OSX Yosemite and I can't open my Aperture (version 3.1.2
If you own a license for Aperture 3.1.2, you are entitled to a free update to Aperture 3.6. Unfortunately, you missed the occasion to install Aperture 3.5.1, when it first was released for Mavericks. That update allowed to associate your boxed retail version of Aperture 3 with your Apple IDat the AppStore.
Now you need to give the App Store Support a call and ask for a redeem code, to be able to download Aperture 3.6 from the App Store.
Apple sent redeem codes for Aperture 3.6 to several users who had bought the version on disks, if they could provide a serial number.  See for example this discussion: (The post marked as the solution)

  • TIP: DO NOT UPGRADE TO OSX YOSEMITE!!!

If you are on a Mac (unfortunately I'm forced to use one at the office), do not, I repeat, do NOT "upgrade" to OSX Yosemite. Adobe still hasn't figured out the conflicts between EA and Yosemite. I've been fighting issues all day with lock ups, etc. If you want to keep your sanity, wait to upgrade the OS until Adobe issues a patch.
On a side note, I can't wait to get back to my PC at home. No issues there...

    My user experience with Yosemite:
Both versions can be installed "side by side". I mean: Edge 4.0 and 5.0.1
    The download page:

  • After IOS 8 upgrade on phone, documents no longer synch in Pages.  I find out subsequently that when I upgraded it gave me iCloud Drive, which won't synch unless my computer has OSX Yosemite, which isn't available.  Apple says they can't get me back.

Apple upgraded me to a new IOS that has now eliminated my ability to synch Pages docs which I've been using quite successfully.  So now every time work in pages it tells me that my documents won't synch and to "upgrade to OSX Yosemite."  The problem:  Yosemite IS NOT AVAILABLE yet.  Will they let me go back to the old way until Yosemite is available?  No they will not.  I'm stuck with devices that won't work together.  I recall no warning that by upgrading to IOS8 would mess up my ability to use my devices as intended -- that my devices would be less compatible.  I feel duped and manipulated.  And to clarify, I only updated on my phone.  Once I saw (subsequent to update) that my synching of docs would no longer work, I decided not to upgrade my iPad mini.  But guess what -- just updating my iPhone has now changed me to iCloud Drive and that means that all of my devices are incompatible.

That happened to me. I rebooted and now my docs are back again.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Thank you very much, Chris Cox. I followed the link in the error message to Apple's support page, downloaded and installed the Java for Mac OSX.
I can now open my PS CS4 again. What a relief!

  • Will upgrading from OSX Snow Lepoard to OSX Yosemite remove my Windows Bootcamp Partition?

Hello guys, so i have a question.
I am currently running OSX Snow Leopard, and i want to upgrade to OSX Yosemite, but i'm scared that upgrading to Yosemite will erase my Bootcamp partition.
so, Will upgrading to Yosemite kill the partition? or will it save it, so that after Yosemite is installed, i can still dual boot into Windows 7?
    Thanks

Also backup your OS X volume.
Windows has built-in backup software. You could also try WinClone X.

Apple ID has my old email address. It will not allow me to change the address and will not accept my password or ID questions.   I recently upgraded to OSX Yosemite 10.10.1.  I also have an Apple ID that works with iTunes and would like to keep it as my primary.

To change the iCloud ID on your devices you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted (if using iOS 7), then sign back in with your current ID.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, you will have to temporarily recreate it in order to delete the existing account.  To do this, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I have a 2009 21.5 iMac with malfunctioning internal disk drive. I lost CS2 when I upgraded to OSX Yosemite.  I want to install Lightroom. Can I transfer the Lightroom 5 software to an SD card and then download from that to my computer?

you need the installation files, not copies of installed programs.

There is no upgrade to iPhoto with OS X 10.10.3 - here was an update to version 9.6.1 a few months ago and Photo 1.0 was added with 10.10.3 - what software and which version are you having trouble with - iPhoto or Photos?

  • Can't Install OSX Yosemite on iMac Mid-2009 Stuck - No Recovery Partition PLEASE HELP

I had an old iMac Mid-2009 2GB on OSX Lion, which had been kept away in the garage for a while. Pulled it out, ran Lion fine. It was going to be set up as a new computer, so I downloaded OSX Yosemite, planning to wipe and re-install after installation. Took a lot longer than I expected. After a while, the apple logo progress bar froze. I googled it and many people said just to wait it out, it could take up to 12 hours. 1 week later, still there. Fairly confident that nothing was going on on the hard drive. I reset the PRAM, didn't help. So I tried another fix I found which involved booting into the recovery partition. Guess what, no recovery partition . So finally I went to the trouble of creating an install usb. Booted fine, so I went into Disk Utility to erase my hard drive and re-install. But guess what, I couldn't! Can somebody please help! Or is this iMac stuffed?

Finally figured out the solution. My internal HDD appears to be not working after that faulty Yosemite installation. Just got a fast external HDD, plugged it into the iMac. Booted from the USB, went into Disk Utility and formatted it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in GUID. Installed and got up an running fine. Finally fixed this after 3 weeks! Hopefully this will help anyone that has the same problem.

  • Since upgrading to OSX Yosemite cannot open word files downloaded from email.

I have recently installed OSX Yosemite on my late 2010 macbook air. Since upgrading I have been unable to open files in Word that I have downloaded from my email. Old word files seem to work fine. My university has given faculty access to "Office 365" and that is what I use for my email. However whenever I try and download a word file from my email the computer opens word for a second - I can see the first page of the document - and then immediately closes. This happens regardless of whether or not I open the file from my computer in my desktop or in my downloads folder, or just download another copy from my email. The word file works fine on another windows computer, it's only on this mac that Office 2011 crashes every time I try and open this new file. Please advise?

A web site for the community I live in. I can get into the site but when I try to open a PDF file all I get is a grey screen. I can open PDF files from mail, and other sites.
