OSX Yosemite USB Microphone Static Sounds when talking.

Same thing as the title recently upgraded from late 2008 iMac using Mountain Lion to a late 2013 iMac using Yosemite and now when I plug in my USB headset into one of the 4 USB slots the microphone is robotic and static noises appear. When I plug the headphones into the Usb slot in my keyboard the mic works fine. Anyone else experiencing this?

I suggest an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.
Perhaps an Apple Hardware Test may provide a clue:

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on your Mac computer? Is your USB microphone a standalone or part of a USB web cam type device?
Classically the Adobe ReadMe mentions that USB Microphones do not work with Premiere Elements. Yes, I have seen a report that USB microphone would be expected to work with correct Control Panel and program Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings at least in versions 10 and 11 Mac.
Please see a thread from last year and its discussion on the matter.
I can't get premiere elements 11 to see my usb microphone?
Some have found a few USB Microphones that do work in Premiere Elements (any version), but those reports are scattered. So to answer your question
will an other usb microphone work?
maybe or maybe not is the best answer I can offer at this time.
For troubleshooting purposes, can you create the narration in a free audio editor like Audacity and then
import that narration into the Premiere Elements project (Add Media/Files and Folders) without issue?
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Perhaps we can encourage Premiere Elements users versions 4 to 13 who use a USB microphone to post in your thread (for informational
purposes) the brand/model USB microphone that has worked for them.

  • Static Sound When Connecting Macbook Pro to Thunderbolt Display

Every so often when I connect my late 2013 Retina 15-inch Macbook Pro to my Thunderbolt Display it will product static for about three seconds, it sounds like a wave since the volume increases and then decreases.  I've searched the forums and am just curious if this is a known issue.  It's very odd.

It sounds like you're already using the best way. The Thunderbolt port is also a Mini DisplayPort, so you're connecting it DisplayPort to DisplayPort. The reason that is the best way is most other cables, including HDMI in my experience, will not reach the 2560x1440 resolution. (HDMI will probably drive that monitor at 1080p, or only 1920x1080.)
If DVI were to be used, it would have to be the expensive Dual-Link DVI because regular old Single Link DVI isn't capable of 2560x1440. It's a good thing the MacBook has Mini DisplayPort on it instead of DVI (like the older Apple laptops did) because DisplayPort cables are far cheaper than Dual-Link DVI adapters.
You can't do better than the connection you're already using.

  • No sound when talking on call

Please help - this is driving me mad!  I have just been given a blackberry pearl 8100 and put my Virgin Sim card in it (after getting the phone unlocked.
I can do everything I need to do on the phone except .... when I call someone or they call me, they cant hear me speak.  I can hear them but there is just silence their end.
    Does anyone have any ideas???
Also - is it possible to connect to wireless internet at home so I am not charged for roaming?  If so how do I do it????
    Any help please!!!!!

I would suggest to try a clean application load on your device.
This will update the device software, and if this is a software issue it should resolve it.
Before you do anything make sure you do a full backup of your device.
How to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Device Software using BlackBerry Desktop Manager for...
As for connecting to Wi-Fi at your house, it depends on if the device your using supports a Wi-Fi connection. If you go to "Manage Connections" on the home screen, in here you will see Wi-Fi listed as an option in here.
    Hope this helps.

  • Static sounds on my laptop

I hear static sounds when i play music on my laptop (mp3) or watch video on my laptop (mp4) or on youtube online.  I first noticed it a long time ago and it was sporadic. but now it is continues for 3 days.  I hear it when i have my headset plugged in (it's a USB headset.. so i plug it in via the USB port). some times at the start i don't hear the static but after a few seconds/minutes it comes back.  I unplugged the headset and i still hear the static via the laptop's speakers.  I have tried plugging in regular ear phones, I hear the static but not as bad as the other headset and speakers.

  • Two USB Microphones.

    Hi guys,
Could someone who is a lot cleverer than me help me out? I am trying to use 2 USB microphones (Pro Sound A99JB HQ Podcast Microphone) for a podcast however I can only ever get sound from one. I have tried to create a aggregate device but this hasn't changed my situation (maybe I haven't done it correctly). It seems like I need to assign a mic to different inputs. Is what I am doing even possible? I am using Logic Pro 9.
Any help would be very welcome. I would also throw in a free portrait on the Draw Something App, tempting I know

Just as further information about this issue, here is what appears for the two microphones in the System Profiler:

  • How to fix ipod 4g static audio when recording?

When i record video, there's a static sound when being played. All other noises are hard to hear. It was working fine few days ago with literaly no changes (like downloading/deleting apps or changeing audio settings) Here's what I tried to do (atleast what I remembered doing)
    -Reboot
    -Turn of wi-fi
-Hold power and home button for 10 seconds
Test video: i just played ringtones at max volume, if i recorded it without the static noise, it would be much louder.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjNN1arNdYo
the ipod had no case or protective covering when i recorded it

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes on your computer.

  • Only static sustained beep sound when making calls!

Over the past few hours I have noticed when I make a call on my iphone4s (iOs5.1.1, I have not recently updated!) I can hear the person I am calling for about 2 -5 seconds and then nothing OR just static sound and nothing from the person I am calling.
I can send and recieve texts (over 3g Telstra network)
I can send and receive imessage
I can send and receive FaceTime (wifi)
I can listen to songs and videos online and on my phone
I can record my voice handsfree and using headphones
I can not talk to anyone when making or receiving a call! Static or nothing!
    I have full reception
    I am with Telstra Australia
    Any ideas?

Sounds like you have activated mute button, within a call there should be an option to unmute. The top left-hand button with a microphone does it have a / or a \ through it if so just tap it again & your voice will be heard again.
The other possibility is that you've put calls on hold.

  • Robotic Static Sounds USB Headset

Issue: When using any USB headset or USB audio input device on any Macintosh with any operating system from 10.5.7 to 10.6.1, after about 10-20 minutes of use, all audio from the headset becomes garbled and has a robotic static sound quality.
Tested with: Dozens of different Macintosh Computers over the last 6 months with different USB headsets and microphone input devices.
Reproducable: Yes, via either Garageband, Ventrilo or a number of other software applications that do USB Audio Input

I have a 27-inch i7 iMac running 10.6.2 and I can confirm that replacing the kernel extension from 10.5.6 works just fine. I had been having this problem every since 10.6.2 (for some reason it worked up until then). I don't think this fix will work if you are booting with the 64-bit kernel (the default on ALL macs is to boot the 32-bit kernel so you would specifically have to be doing this). I haven't tested it in 64-bit though.
Here are the steps I followed:
    1) Download the AppleUSBAudio.kext from 10.5.6 from the following URL.
    http://evo-wiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/FAQ/AudioProblemMacOSX1057/AppleUSBAudio.kext. zip
    2) Unzip it.
    3) Open up terminal
    4) Make a backup of the existing driver by running the following in terminal
    cp -Rp /System/Library/Extension/AppleUSBAudio.kext ~/Documents/AppleUSBAudio.kext-BACKUP
    5) Exit any applications that are using a USB audio device and unplug all USB audio devices.
    6) Unload the existing AppleUSBAudio driver from the kernel by running the below command in terminal.
    sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBAudio.kext
If you get an error saying " not found for unload request" your fine. If you get an error claiming it can't be unloaded because its in use (don't have the text in front of me) then stop and go back to step 5.
    7) Remove the existing driver by running the following in terminal.
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBAudio.kext
    8) Put the new driver in place by running the following in terminal.
    sudo mv ~/Download/AppleUSBAudio.kext /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBAudio.kext
    9) Load the new driver by running the following in terminal.
    sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBAudio.kext
    10) Confirm the new driver is loaded by running the following in terminal.
    kextstat | grep AppleUSBAudio
The output should look like the folliowing (the 2.5.8b13 is the important bit, some of the other numbers might be slightly different):
    cfb@snarfblat:~/> kextstat | grep AppleUSBAudio
    141 0 0x96c6f000 0x28000 0x27000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBAudio (2.5.8b13) <95 94 30 14 8 7 5 4 3 1>
At this point you should be good to go. The only issue with this "fix" is that any time there is an update from Apple there is a chance that the driver will get replaced with a newer one. After each update you should run the command from step 10 again to confirm that you have version 2.5.8.b13. If it gets updated, repeat the above process.
NOTE: Jaycyn I have tried to post this to your WoW forum post of the same issue (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22048900603&postId=2204747 77020&sid=1#18) as that is how I found this thread and the solutions but there is something messed up with my forum account preventing me from posting to the WoW forums.

  • Pulsing static sound is audible thru speakers or earphones, but not USB output.

    Compaq Presario CQ532oF  Windows 7 64 bit
Pulsing static sound is audible thru speakers or earphones, but not USB output.  Makes listening to talk or music unbearable. This just started a few days ago.  Volume control affects the volume.  Does not matter if audio program is playing or not playing.  Pulses are about 2 seconds duration - sounds like a phonograph record at the end of play where the tone arm didn't pick up.
Is this likely an amplifier problem?  Is the amp on the sound card?

    Hi vc329,
Doesn't sound like encouraging news, though it is odd that the sound came back for a short while at least.  If you still haven't rebooted the PC since putting it to sleep and loosing the sound, then I would suggested going ahead and rebooting or even doing a full hard reset (power down, remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 20 seconds or so, then reconnect the AC power and Battery and boot up) to see if the sound can be recovered again.
If the sound still doesn't work, Check Device Manager to see if the sound driver still looks OK, make sure you are using the latest driver again (it looks like the latest driver is 6.10.6381.0), another option might also be to try the older driver that is still available from the site, or try recovering the original driver shipped on the PC.  The steps to do these things are covered in the document listed below, in Step 6 (Restoring the Audio Driver), Step 7 (Updating the Audio Driver), and Step 8 (Checking Device Manager):
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If none of that seems to help, I'd recommend testing the hardware using Step 9 in that document.
If the online warranty check sees you as out of warranty, you may still be OK if you have the original proof of purchase (receipt) from wherever you purchased the PC, but you may have to provide it when calling HP for service if the sound can't be fixed.  If you are close to the end of warranty I'd recommend calling customer care for your area (I assume you are still in Asia) and validating the warranty with them as soon as possible just to make sure.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.
    Ciao.

  • USB Mic (static, robot sounds)

Only in the last month or so, I have been having problems with my usb mic(s). When I am using Ventrilo, Skype etc., after a while people say I sound like a robot and or get a ton of static. I have tried using different headsets, different usb ports etc etc., only to have it keep occuring.
Any ideas on what I can do? Is this a sound board going bad? Is it maybe something with 10.5.7?

This likely has to do with USB Clocking. Mac OS 10.5 is actually pretty bad with this. Have a read of this article and follow their recommendation for creating an aggregate audio device. Even if you have only one mic it sometimes seems to fix things:
