  • Using OS 10.4 Mail. IMAP mailboxes filling up on server. How to periodically archive on my Mac but delete from server?

I'm using OS 10.4, Mail. Accessing IMAP accounts on mail server. The server mail boxes are filling up and bouncing mail. How can I archive the old mail on my computer and delete it from the server to make room for new mail? Will creating an archive mailbox "on my mac", copying old mail from my inbox to the archive mailbox, deleting the old mail from my inbox and then synchronizing with the server work? Will moving the old mail to the archive mailbox work? Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Great news, thanks!

  • I open Mail, and a new message screen comes up.  I cannot get rid of it, and I cannot get to the mail in my mailbox???

When I try to open my mail (not IMail) a new message screen comes up on my iPad  (version 8.1.3 (12B466), and I cannot cancel it; it prevents me from getting to the mail in that mailbox.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • Mail.app - Multiple mailboxes on same AD-account

Mod may move my question the the right section of the community.
    Hello,
Trying to set up my work-mailboxes in the Mail-app. I have my personal email ([email protected]) but also several other mails (for example: [email protected] och [email protected]) that is used by more people than me. Permissions to these are controlled via the AD-account (AD\myname).
I manage to set up my personal mail ([email protected]) without any problems, but when it comes to adding the other mailboxes, mail just won't do it.
I get an error message "An error accoured trying to set up the Mail-account. An unknown error occurred"
Does anyone have any idéas on how to set up Mail with several mailboxes controlled by the same AD-accound?

    Hello FRA_ALLEN.
I tried to add a new POP account c@mydomain and got a failed message
    - username or password not correct.
Please, post the exact error message you get when trying to do that. To get the error message in English, go to System Preferences > International, move English to the top of the list and restart Mail.

How to create a group of contact from a multi-selection of mails in a mailbox to answer to all senders?

Use Mail Scripts. Its Add Addresses function will collect all the addresses from all selected messages and allow you to select the ones you want to add and allow you to create groups as you go.

I converted my mail boxes from POP to imap for the purpose of syncing all my devices. I backed up my mail boxes and further more perfomed a timemachine backup.
Upon restoring ther mailboxes, either by manually copying them to the mailboxes folder, and restoring a timemachine backup, both pocesses result in the above problem.
    Please recomend a solution.

  • Mail present in Mailbox, not showing in Smart Mailbox

OK, this is a bit complicated to explain, but let's try.
To archive old emails, I use to create a Smart Mailbox with criteria, for example, all emails (received or sent) from 01/01/2001 to 31/12/2001.
Then I drag them in a separate mailbox, which I can archive.
As a check, I show on the mail browser the "mailbox" column.
And many mails are reported as "blank" in the Mailbox column.
Worse, when I try to open them, they appear blank, too. No headers, no contents.
But if I do a Spotlight search on the title shown in the browser, I can find the .emlx file, and open it with Text Wrangler. Text Wrangler then give me the path of the file ... which is in the adequate mailbox !! And if I open the file through the result window of Spotlight, Mail decently opens the message ...
    Rebuilding the mailboxes doesn't help.
It happens with "small" years (+/- 2000 messages) as well as with "big" years (10,000 messages and above).
Is there a way to rebuild a complete index of Mail ?
    Thanks in advance

    Claude,
It would appear that you do need to force reindexing. Since forcing reindexing involves more than those On My Mac mailboxes, the issue of what type of accounts you use remains relevant?
To force Mail to reindex, you quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail and locate the Envelope Index file (hopefully you only find one file with similar name). Drag out, or delete the Envelope Index file from the Mail folder, and then relaunch Mail, which will announce that it is ready to import mailboxes, but really will only set about to index all mailboxes.
Again, if you have anything other than POP accounts, please report that, and if you understand what you are supposed to do with the account folder for non-POP accounts?

  • Custom header reading of bounce mail

    Hi,
When I send a mail to invalid mail address on gmail server, form the bounce mail able to read the custom headers using javax.mail api.
But when I send mail to invalid user on MS Exchange server, from the bounce mail I got, not able to read the custom headers using javax.mail. But the outlook shows (by looking at the option) the custom header is present. I think I may be missing some configuration while reading the mail from mail server using javax.mail. and not reading all the headers. (but its working with other email servers like gmail)

First, you need to understand that it's up to the
destination server what it returns, if anything, when
you send a message to an invalid address.
In this case, if sounds like the destination server has
returned a message that includes all the headers
you want to see, but you can only see them using
Outlook and not when using JavaMail.
Note that Outlook typically uses a Microsoft proprietary
protocol to talk to Exchange, so it's possible for it to
see and do things that are not possible using the
standard internet protocols that JavaMail uses.
You'll probably need to consult an Exchange expert
to see if there are configuration options that control
what information it makes available to internet
    protocol clients in this case.

  • Why there are duplicate mail accounts in Mailbox?

Somehow the mail accounts in Mailbox of my iPhone 5 have been duplicated, so whenever there is a new E-mail, the unread E-mail number is doubled. This is what shows in the Mailbox.
As shown above, the Yahoo! mail and Gmail are duplicated, and I could not remove them with Edit. Anyone knows why this happens, and how I should remove the dplicate mail accounts here?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4.  The duplicate also appears on my MacBookPro.  Have not found the solution yet.

  • How do I force smart mailbox to only show me mail from one mailbox while also showing multiple senders?

How do I force smart mailbox to only show me mail from one mailbox while also showing multiple senders?

It would help to post what you've tried. It does, indeed, appear that -h is the switch, and the man includes several examples, so if you've followed the examples and it's not working then that hints that you should pass it back to Apple.
You also don't say how you're implementing your change. Are you invoking slapd manually, or are you editing /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.openldap.slapd.plist ?
You should be doing the latter, and I'd expect to see something like this:
    <array>
      <string>/usr/libexec/slapd</string>
      <string>-d</string>
      <string>0</string>
      <string>-h</string>
      <string>ldap://x.x.x.20/ ldap://127.0.0.1/ ldapi://%2Fvar%2Frun%2Fldapi</string>
    </array>
(note the inclusion of ldap://127.0.0.1/ as an entry - you'll need to run on localhost as well the .20 address since all the local services will look to localhost)
You might also need an ldaps URL if you're using SSL but let's walk before we try to run

  • Tracking of Bounced Mails

    Hi Friends,
I am using Solaris outside a fire wall.
I have a program which send mails to the receipients by making use of javax.mail package.
The question is the mails are going perfectly fine but sometimes the mails are not going and I had also checked with the network at that time and it is fine.
Now, I would like to track all the messages which are not sent and why??
Where can I get those messages?
I had checked the root mail of my solaris machine and there are no bounced mails.
If it comes to the root mail is there any way that we can forward those mails to our personnel id's so that we can send them again>
    Regards,
    Shankar Medapati

    Hi Jay,
    Thanks for the concern...
We r using the SMTP Server for sending mails.
The problem I am facing is the SMTP properties I am using could not able to send mails to the receipients with addresses involving "co.in","@co.name.com",etc.
But the problem I don't understand is when I send mails from the development environment where my app server and mail server are within the firewall there is no problem, but my app server resides outside the fire wall and my mail server resides with in the firewall. Please tell me weather there are any other settings to be done in the app server or mail server to handle this problem.

  • Bouncing Mail icon

    Hi,
I feel silly- but I know someone out there knows this in a New Yors second!
I have a MacBook Pro - everything the latest. With "MAIL" - it used to be when I receive an email - the little icon in the dock bounced, along with the sound effect.
I zereoed my HD - reinstalled everything fresh - and now . . . NO bouncing icon.
I was kinda getting to like him, bouncing around excitedly - I feel like I've lost an old friend!
Anybody know how to get it to bounce when new emails arrive? Everything else, is fine. Is there a preference somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi Ferd,
Thank you for your response. It seems you are EXACTLY CORRECT! I hae a friend who works for Apple - if you're curious, he said this . . .
"Add a rule in your Mail preferences that can either be global for all new email or for specific emails. You can have it ignore the unimportant ones. The rule can be: if new mail received, then bounce mail icon in dock. As for sound that should just be the General preference for New Mail. You choose which system sound to use. Sometimes system sounds get funky, especially when using other sound sources sound editing/hacking software. This causes all system sounds to stop. You may notice trash not emptying or iChat not being audible for incoming/outgoing messages. To fix this, you need to open Activity Monitor app and force quit the coreaudio process. It'll auto relaunch and your sounds should be back.
    Hope this helps,
    M"
And this basically completely agrees with you! Thanks again - problem solved!

  • Can you disable the Bounce Mail confirmation?

I like the Bounce Mail function (although I wonder how effective it will be) but I hate having to confirm the command when I use it. Does anyone know if that can be disabled?

    don't think you can.
    hope this helps

  • All e-mails in my mailboxes have been deleted.  All the mailboxes are still there but the content in them...GONE.  I tried the time machine

All e-mails in my mailboxes have disappeared.  The mailboxes are still there, but no content.  I think my behaviors were set to delete them after a month (i since tuned it off).  I tried to go to time machine and it has never been "on".  Can someone please help me retrieve ALL my e-mails that were in my mailboxes? Thank yoU!

It depends on your Mail Preferences Accounts Mailbox Behaviour settings.  If your settings for the Comcast mail account are somethikng like this you would find them in your Mail Trash folder and then you would simply move them back to the correct folders.  If you had not activated the Trash option for deleted messages and they are also no longer on the Comcast server, then they are probably erased from your system.  Using the Trash option gives you some breathing room in case you accidentally or mistakenly delete messages.
Look in your Mail folder in a Finder window.  Click on Home, open the Library folder and then open the Mail folder.  Would be nice if there’s something there to recover but I don’t think so.
