OT: 24" LCD - resolution preference

Hi
I am going to get myself an 24" Wide LCD. There are two resolutions available:
- 1900 x 1200 WUXGA (from PC world)
- 1920 x 1080 Full HD (from TV world)
Should I prefer one over the other or is this simply a "d'ont care"?
Thanks for your suggestions.

That will be a fantastic display probably. Wide gamut displays are very good for photography work as they allow colors to be displayed that you can find in nature and that cameras can photograph and that many printers can actually reproduce. I use a wide-gamut one and it is a joy. There are only a few caveats with them. 1. they absolutely have to be calibrated. Every display should be calibrated if you do digital photography, but this is especially important for wide gamut displays. You already have this covered with your Spyder, so nothing to worry about. 2. non-managed applications will display incorrect color. A big offender here is internet explorer in windows. It will simply always display the wrong color (oversaturated mostly), no matter what you do. Use Safari or Firefox (on Macs Chrome is also color managed, but not on windows). If you use Firefox, be sure to generate a v2 monitor profile (the spyder software can do this), as otherwise FF will still not color manage. 3. Games and DVDs will look oversaturated on this display. If you use your monitor for work, don't worry about it, and DVD player software can often be set to reduce saturation a little.

This is a question about the iPhone but it relates to how the iPhone operates differently than the AppleTV. Here's a picture of how I have our AppleTVs at home configured:
Although we use nothing but HD TVs, I prefer standard resolution -- I don't really see that much of a difference, and it's cheaper to go with standard, so that's the way I prefer to operate. Because I have my AppleTV configured this way, if I were going to buy a movie or TV season pass on the TV, it would do it in standard resolution.
My question is: does anyone know of a way to configure the iPhone to work like this as well? I've looked in the iTunes & App Store settings and Video settings, and neither of them have a resolution preference option. I can use the "Also Available in SD" link at the bottom of a movie or season pass window to switch over to SD purchase price, but it's annoying to have to do that all the time when I'd rather just set my preference permanently to standard resolution.

  • FCPX: changing the resolution preferences when burning a dvd?

FCPX: How do you change the resolution preferences from 720 to 1080 when burning a dvd?

DVD standard is 720X480, which is why you don't have a resolution choice.

  • Screen resolution preferences does not work for me...

I have a 1920x1080, 17.4 laptop. That is approx 126.6 ppi screen resolution if my calculkations are correct...
So in order to set PS to display real size of the images according to the zoom, I go to edit / preferences / units & rulers and set the screen resolution to 126.6 instead of the default 72ppi.
But nothing changes...what am I doing wrong? 100% zoom is still showing much larger image than real (as if 72ppi screen resolution was unchanged). I have tried extreme ppi like 10 and 1000 to see if anything chaged but still nothing, I have restarted Ps and the laptop, and the preferences are correctly saved but zoom still wrong...
    Help very much appreciated!

It works when you go to the View menu and select Print Size. When you load an image and turn on (Ctrl r) Rulers, the on screen rulers the should match a physical ruler and the image would be the same size onscreen as it would be on paper. This function needed your screen resolution in order to accurately do this.
You should use your horizontal screen size in inches, not your diagonal screen size as 1024 is the horizontal pixel dimensions of your screen.
Screen resolution (ppi) = 1024 px/horizontal size inches.

  • Newb question about LCD resolution..

This may seem like an odd question but I just bought a
    widescreen LCD and
wanted to know what the proper ratio I should be working in
    is.
    1920 x 1200 (1.6)
    or
    1920 x 1440? (1.3)
    Thanks...

It's typically recommended that you set the resolution of the
    LCD to
whatever its native resolution actually is.

  • Resolution Preference

Can someone explain what resolution setting to use in the preferences >> page display >> custom resolution.
    When using
at 108 dpi system setting , the fonts looks funny (the D's & E's for example are all slightly shorter). The font is Meta Normal.
If I change to Custom 98 then this looks good.
Is there an easier way to figure out my figure out my PPI. 23.5" wide monitor/2540 pixels = 108.00851, so 108. I am guessing Acrobat presences somehow sense this.
My pdfs are coming ftom Illustrator using smallest file size setting (with one change to make them CMYK), and that is 100 dpi.
IN summary what setting should I used for the Acrobat page Display???

  • Upgrading LCD resolution from 1024x768 to 1400x1050

    Hi,
There is some 12.1" LCD screen doing 1400x1050 pixels (SXGA+).
Is it possible to replace the 1024x768 LCD with higher res one ?
Would be nice to have a such display...
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
In order to get higher resolution, you would want to consider an external display.

  • How to get widescreen (lcd) resolution in xfce (and x in general)?

i just got a 19 inch lcd widescreen... now i dont know how to set a wide resolution i x.. can someone tell me how to get 1440x900 resolution (which is what my monitor supports)...

Xorg probably autoconfigures for the highest resolution your card and monitor can support. If not try if you don't already have it
    pacman -S libxrandr
    Then
    xrandr
It should show you all applicable resolutions for your config. To manually set it in your current session find the number in the collomn SZ and run
    xrandr -s #
Then just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the display subsection of the screen section and put in the resolution(s) you want.
This is what mine looks like:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "Intel 810"
    Monitor "My Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 8
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x1024"
    ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
    EndSection

  • LMs 3.2 name resolution preference

we currently using host file for name resolution for LMS server and we will going to DNS, and I am curious if DNS fast enough to do for LMS to amange 4k devices, specially on device discovery, or CM. also on DNS search prifx our sub domain is the 3rd prefered not the first one. with all these i have some doubt. please if you have experiance moving from host to DNS please share your experiance or suggestion. thanks

    Hi,
    "Our   Device Discovery  3500 Devices -> 4hrs  ------------  Cisco white paper data -> 15 minute for 5K
Our  Device Data Collection 3500 Devices ->11 hrs ------------Cisco white paper data -> 4 hrs   for 5k
Oour  User Tracking Discovering 3550 devices and 30k Devices-> 23hrs  ------------Cisco white paper data -> 1.26 hrs for 100k "
Well, this all depends how we have configured community strings on the CiscoWorks and how is the network response when query will send to the devices.
The performance depicted in the White papers are more like examples and it may vary from network to network. But another fact is how we have configured the CiscoWorks to collect the data from devices like for example while doing Device Discovery if you have 300 devices in DCR already and select the option "Use DCR list for Device Discovery" then obviously it will start the 300 discovery thread from these devices and it will take lot more time to discover the devices in network. Similarly if you have configured, multiple community string for different types of devices and in the discovery setting you provide the target *.*.*.* for 1st community and *.*.*.* for two more  community string, then it will again take considerable time to discover the devices since each community string will be reffered for all the devices again and again.
Bottom line is , the time varies from network to network and also how you can fine tune your configureation setting in CiscoWorks.
Here is the good doc link to get the better understanding of "Device Discovery"

    Hope it helps too.

  • Max screen resolution LCD Satellite pro M10

hi, sorry for my poor english, my question is:
The max internal LCD resolution for the satellite pro M10 notebook is 1024x768? excluse te superior resolution with scrolling?
I Have read in the tecnical specific of my notebook that the internal max resolution is 1280x1024 is not really?
    thanks

    Hi
As far as I know the display resolution depends on a display controller
I found this information in the user manual. The following models are available:
    -14.1 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 SXGA+ with 1400 x 1050
    -15.0 UXGA with 1600 x 1200
I think in this case your unit has a 14.1 or a 15.0 XGA display controller. Well, in my opinion its all right with your notebook. Enjoy it :)
    Bye

  • Qosmio G50-12K - LCD is only sharp at highest resolution

    Hi!
I just bought Toshiba G50-12K and I have first problem. LCD resolution is 1920x1080 and on it everything is very nice and very sharp. But when I would like to use any other resolution screen is not very nice. So I have question:
    1. It is normal that screen it is usable only in fullHD resolution?
    2. I have my lcd instaled as standard pnp monitor maybe there is any drivers for this lcd? I didnt find nothing on thoshiba site.
    3. Maybe graphic card have never drivers? I have last from toshiba site.
    Maybe any other ideas.
    Best Regards
    Krzysiek

    Hello
Dont worry buddy, thats normal! :)
All LCD monitors only have a very good picture quality and highest sharpness on the highest screen resolution, in your case 1920x1080. All other resolutions are not very sharp due a hardware limitation of this monitor technology. Therefore I can recommend this Wikipedia article:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lcd
I think this says everything and so you dont need another monitor or graphic card driver.

  • White screen on boot, wrong resolution in dual-display mode

    Hello,
I recently installed the software driver for a Brother HL-2040 laser printer on my 12 in. iBook G4. I was prompted to reboot, which I did. When my computer restarted, only a gray-white screen appeared.
It seems that the LCD is out of phase or something similar. Some garbled content displays in the right third of the screen, top to bottom, but it is almost the same value of gray-white as the rest of the screen, nothing discernable.
Interestingly, when I attach my iBook to an external CRT monitor (Dell P991), my iBook LCD displays correctly at 800x600 resolution (as well as the mirror on the CRT monitor).
When I open the Display panel from sysprefs, it shows 800x600@85 for the CRT and 1024x768@60 for the LCD. If I try to change the LCD settings, I encounter an out of phase display on the LCD (sometimes tiled display of my desktop, sometimes gray-white screen, depending on resolution and refresh rate).
If I disconnect the external monitor cable, the laptop screen returns to the gray-white screen.
I have reset the PRAM & NVRAM following Apple's documentation. The first time I did this, there was no change in the display. The second time, I encountered the spinning gear during start-up, which was immediately followed by the gray-white screen.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk via the Disk Utility.
Does anyone know how to correct this issue?
If you have any questions for me or need more detail, please let me know.
    Thanks for the help.

    Here's an update:
I tried installing the most recent driver from www.brother-usa.com for the HL-2040 laser printer. This did not cause any change.
I tried creating a new user on the computer, but the issue seems to be at the system level as the display problem occurs when I boot-up.
I ran the Apple Hardware test via the OSX 10.4 install CD1. This did not turn up any negative results, however it indicated I had 16MB of VRAM instead of 32MB. Also, it showed the resolution at 800x600 instead of 1024x768.
When I have my external CRT monitor connected and I enter System Preferences > Displays, I encounter two windows. The window for the CRT shows the only two options as 640x480 and 800x600. The Default Display (which I assume is the LCD) shows a variety of resolutions and refresh rates. I select 1024x768@60Hz, which at least shows the screen, however the actual LCD resolution is 800x600.
Does anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this issue at the system (not user) level?
    Thanks again!

  • Native resolution 1440x960 not accessible, how to fix?

I just acquired a 15" 1.67GHz Powerbook G4. I have another one that is the identical make and model, which allows the native 1440x960 resolution display which I use. This new one doesn't give me that option, only going as high as 1280x854. Is this a problem I can fix? It's driving me mad, as I have an onscreen presentation that is looking a bit fuzzy on the new laptop.

    Much appreciated.

    Hi tetardAnna,
Something sounds rotten about this Apple. There were, you may be aware, two 15 inch PowerBook G4 1.67ghz systems. One with high res, one without. The high-res system had 128MB of VRAM, and the other, non-high-res one, had 64MB.
It sounds like this is a logic board from the original, standard res system. Therefore, it also probably doesn't have the high res panel in it. Check font smoothing in the Appearance System Preferences Panel is set to "Medium - best for LCD" and not "Standard - Best for CRT".
It is possible, however, that it was a high-res system which had a logic board replaced with an incorrect model. I suspect you have no recourse if this is the case. I doubt this however, since LCD panels don't do scaling, and it would just display the 1280x854 display in the top left hand corner of the display.
You could try using SwitchResX to get 1440x960, but again, I don't think it will work.

  • External monitor resolution problems

According to System Preferences, I currently have a maximum resolution of 1280x800 on my built-in monitor.   When I hook up a my large external monitor with higher resolution capabilities, I don't seem to be able to use the whole screen size and I'm losing about 4" of space that I desperately need!

Each has its limitations. Mirroring limits the external to the internal's max resolution. Extended desktop doesn't allow you to mirror. You're going to have to decide which you like better.
I'm still not clear what you're seeing in extended desktop. You should be able to get a whole desktop's worth of display on the external display, not just half of it. Open display prefs > arrangement again and drag the menu bar from the little/built in display over to the big one/external display.

Does anyone know what is not set correctly?
Thanks very much for any help or troubleshooting ideas.

Thank you for your reply. It looks like I have only one DVI port, as there is only one port that takes the Display connector.
