Yeah. When I drop the fonts folder onto 'DropZip' its 998kb.
After its
zipped it's 4k (didn't particularly take any notice of the
zipped file
size) However having been alerted to it by the printer I
unzipped the
fonts folder myself and sure enough it was 0kb. All the font
icons were
in the folder but all the file were 0kb...weird.
Since then I've done various experiment of just dropping the
unzipped
fonts folder directly onto the server with the same results.
The folder
ends up 0kb, although it starts out at 998kb
It's not just this particular zipped font files, it now
appears to be
all of them I have been sending.
Now I'm aware of the issue I dowloaded some other zipped
artwork from my
server which contains font folders and they are all the same,
0kb but
all the font icons present.
As I said before no one else has mentioned this. So I must
have been
sending 0kb font folder for several years....humm.

PDFs anyways. Might be

I nearly always do now as an option but the production guy
said he'd
rather use the Xpress files and the fonts.
He suggested stuffing the fonts folder rather than zipping
it. But I
dont know what the difference is.
Anyhow I'll try that over the weekend but I cant see it will
make any
difference given the unzipped fonts folder droppped directly
onto the
server did'nt work either.

  • 90min best quality DVD?  still too poor

I have a 68min 1080 apple pro res file to burn onto a DVD.  The file, as is, looks like great quality.  Little motion to the video..just someone on stage.  When I dump it into compressor (using the auto mpeg2 settings for best quality 90min) and then bring it into DVDSP...the quality looks pretty poor.  The text especially.  How can I improve upon this quality?  Thanks in advance!

    Heather,
The clips do match the sequence and it is apparently interlaced, with field dominance read as upper. Not ideal, but no reason why you not have decent text.
I agree that sending from FCP shouldn't hurt quality; it may even help. It's just slower and you don't get a fully rendered master.
Some fonts are problematic – particularly for interlaced. If possible avoid busy font designs – including those with serifs. Drop shadows are pretty much a requirement – regardless of the font choice. Finally, the native text tools in FCP are not as good a Boris (which you can access from the FCP generator button or in Motion. (FWIW, my preference is to put a slug on the timeline and send that to Motion. Create my text in Motion, save and round trip back to FCP.)
What I'd suggest, mark a short section that includes your text and send that to Compressor. Open frame controls (which should be on already) and click on the gear icon so you can change the resize filter from better to best.
DOn't be concerned about the pixel shape. Compressor changes that from square to fit a 16:9 image into a 4:3 frame.
In DVD Studio Pro, verify in your preferences>general that SD DVD menus, tracks and slideshows display mode is set 16:9 letterbox. Create a new test project and import your new test file. Format, waste a disk and see what effect changing the setting made.
Let us know what you find out.
    Good luck.

  • TrueType Font in Business One

    Hello
To have the same look and feel in our Visual Basic Forms, we like to ask, which font is used in SAP Business One. We tried to use Mircosoft "Verdana", but it is not the same.
    Thank you very mutch.

I don't know the official answer, what we use to make applications look a bit like SAP Business One - at the moment until we know better -  is the font <b>Tahoma</b>.
    Screenshot
Look at the title-fonts and the menu-font from calc.
(we take the same font for everything, labels, texts, it just does not fully work for every foreign application like Mozilla Firefox)

  • Is it legal to use iWork fonts for business?

    Hey,
am I allowed to use the fonts in iWork for a business? I am going to found a new company so I have to design a logo, brochures,...!
I do not want to get sued by Apple for using their fonts illegaly
    Thanks:)

BTW: I am form Germany so my English is not perfect!

Most of the fonts installed in the operating system aren't Pages components.
So it's not only the Pages  license but the system one which must be studied.

  • If I use a web font in my website can I use the same font for printed materials such as business car

I am a graphic designer intending to design a portfolio website in Adobe Muse. I plan to use TypeKit web fonts to design my website. Upon completioin of the website I intend to design business cards and my resume to match the look of my website. I would like to use the same fonts as I used on the website. Is it possible to use web fonts for printing purposes? If not, what do people typically do in this situation. The last thing I want to do is use a font that "looks" like the ones used on my website.

    Hi redsoxfan15b,
(I think I may have replied to your Typekit Support ticket earlier today, but I will post the same information here to be certain.)
We have recently added a new feature to Typekit that allows you to sync fonts to your desktop and use them in print design. The announcement on our website has more information:
    http://blog.typekit.com/2014/01/16/the-fonts-you-love-from-typekit-now-on-your-desktop/
Font sync is available on any Typekit Portfolio, Performance, or Business plan.  Here is a list of all the font available for desktop use:
    https://typekit.com/fonts?licenses=desktop
We are continuing to license more of the library for desktop use, but for now you should confirm that the font you would like to use it available for both web and desktop.  And if there is a font you'd like to use that isn't available for desktop sync, you may also be able to purchase a license directly from the foundry.
I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions!  Best,

  • Imposto retido na fonte (SAP Business One 2007B)

    Pessoal,

  • Are web fonts working only on Business Catalyst?

I've made a website using some of the web fonts like "Dosis light". When previewing in muse and in my browser everything seems to be ok.
Will these fonts work if I export my site into html and upload it on FTP?

As I see it was such an easy answer and I wonder why I had to get in contact with staff members just to be provided with a little help. People here should be more helpful toward each other IMHO
    Thanks for your reply Aish.

  • ***FONT ISSUES: How do I create a font repository/server??? ***

Before I explain my font problem, let me first say that I hope that SOMEONE out there/here has good knowledge of fonts, (storage/management/etc.) and can take the time to help me out with my problem. I'd be ETERNALLY grateful for a solution to this problem!! Let me also explain the workflow setup I am coming from. I work at a production company that has 3 edit suites, accessing media from a SAN, managed by FibreJet software. We are running Apple Mac Pro's with 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon chips, and 8 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory. The 3 stations can have READ access to any one drive on the SAN at the same time with no problem, but only one station at a time can have WRITE access to a drive. We each have our own fonts (~2500) on our local systems, and we are all using Extensis Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6 to manage our fonts.
Over the past few months, a couple of projects have reminded us that we have to address a problem in the way we manage our fonts. A project was started in Edit 1 (E1). Footage was loaded, music added and graphics created all in E1. The graphics were made in the Title 3D generator. Near the end of the project, a change had to be made and the original editor and edit suite (E1) was unavailable, so another editor needed to make the change in E2. This is a workflow that we use all the time, and usually don't have a problem. However, this time, when the graphic change was made, either the font that was originally used was missing from E2, or it was not activated. In either case, FCP simply substituted another font in it's place. Unlike Photoshop, FCP does not give any warning when this happens, it just changes the font, so unless you are familiar with the project, you may not know that the change occurred.
As I said, these problems have reminded us that we have to address a problem in the way we manage our fonts. One solution I have thought of would be to consolidate all our fonts onto one of our SAN media drives, and always read that drive. We would then add fonts from this drive, instead of adding from our individual local drives, and hopefully avoiding the "font-switch" problem in the future.
Questions arise, such as: Will Extensis read a font from a SAN drive, or does it have to be local? Will there be a problem with the fact that the drive will be READ only, as opposed to having WRITE access, since all three of us cannot write to the same drive at the same time? Should we just use Apple's own FontBook, instead of Extensis Suitcase, or do we even look into something like Linotype's FontExplorer X, (which I stumbled upon during searches for solutions to our problem)?
If anyone has any answers to my questions, or any solutions we haven't thought of, I'd be very grateful for your help!

Will Extensis read a font from a SAN drive, or does it have to be local?
Here's a bit of information on a SAN setup.
Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed subnetwork of shared storage devices. A storage device is a machine that contains nothing but a disk or disks for storing data. A SAN's architecture works in a way that makes all storage devices available to all servers on a LAN or WAN. As more storage devices are added to a SAN, they too will be accessible from any server in the larger network. In this case, the server merely acts as a pathway between the end user and the stored data.
Because stored data does not reside directly on any of a network's servers, server power is utilized for business applications, and network capacity is released to the end user.
So as I understand it, your Mac's will all see data on a SAN drive array the same as it would a drive that is part of any LAN or WAN. In other words, if activating fonts from a drive on a typical server works, then doing so from a SAN should work the same.
That said, I've never had the opportunity to try it. The easiest way to find out would be to simply drag some fonts into Suitcase that you know are on the SAN storage and see if the activate as you would expect. An issue that may come up is that multiple users may not be able to activate the same fonts at the same time. That wouldn't specifically be a write issue since Suitcase doesn't need to perform a write when opening fonts (other than to update the font cache files on the local drive), but rather if the server considers the files "locked" (in use) to the first user to access them. All depends on how the server is set up, or how Suitcase handles fonts it currently has active. That is, will the server lock the files, or Suitcase, if either?
One solution I have thought of would be to consolidate all our fonts onto one of our SAN media drives, and always read that drive. We would then add fonts from this drive, instead of adding from our individual local drives, and hopefully avoiding the "font-switch" problem in the future.
That would be my first suggestion whether you can read simultaneously read the fonts from the SAN drive or not. I imagine each project is kept in its own folder. Within that, all fonts should be kept together in a single subfolder. An obvious name for that folder is good, such as "Fonts_jobnumber". If Suitcase and/or the server will allow all of you to access the same fonts at the same time, just activate them from the SAN. If not, copy the fonts to your local drive first and then activate.
Should we just use Apple's own FontBook, instead of Extensis Suitcase, or do we even look into something like Linotype's FontExplorer X, (which I stumbled upon during searches for solutions to our problem)?
Font Book is a very weak font manager. It's only advantage in a case like this is that every font you open gets copied to the local drive into one of the two Fonts folder you can designate in its preferences. Then you're always opening the fonts locally. The bad part is that when you use hundreds or thousands of fonts, they all get copied to your Mac as you add fonts. This increases startup times, sometimes dramatically as Font Book has to check all of those fonts during startup against its database to see which should be active and which not. The larger that database gets, the more likely it is to get corrupted.
Suitcase is a far more elegant solution for heavy font usage since you can activate fonts in place. They don't need to be copied anywhere to use them. FontExplorer X can be set up to do the same thing. Depending on what features of Suitcase you use, you may still prefer it over FontExplorer X, even though the latter is free.

  • Adobe Fonts used in logo design and copyright laws

Hi, if you are using an Adobe design software such as Illustrator, Flash or Fireworks to create a logo or banner for use as print and or web where it includes Adobe font in the logo and the characters create words ie; the trading name of the business do you need to approach Adobe for permission to use the fonts or is it expected considering the software is for graphical creations?

Why are we now saying that Photoshop can be used for logos? And what is wrong with CorelDraw? For someone who does not want to argue, it seems odd that an argument is happening within their own posts. :)
The ideal logo design tool offers versatile vector path editing tools and spot color swatch capability. Logo designers generally use Freehand, Illustrator, or CorelDraw... which all offer these abilities.

  • Problem with Web-Fonts displayed on Windows PCs?

    Hi,
I am creating my first site with Muse, and am having problems getting the web-fonts to display correctly on Windows computers. This happens with both Chrome and IE, however you can see the rendering is much worse in IE. On my Mac (that I'm creating this on, the fonts all display perfectly).
This consistently happens across all web-fonts, currently it is using 'Comfortaa'. There are some design inconsistencies on the website still - it's a work in progress! The temporary Business Catalyst site is http://levante2.businesscatalyst.com.
    Shots from the Windows PC:
Chrome on Windows (hard to see the imperfections given the only thing I have to save a jpg is MSPaint on this PC and the compression looks poor anyway) - effectively the problem is that lines are jagged rather than smooth:
    IE8:
Strangely, I did some playing around with this over the weekend, and now there is one set of headers (on the 'Food' page), though I'm not entirely sure why this is ok and the rest are not?
IE8, Dark green on light green header is correct:
Any help would be massively appreciated! I'm tearing my hair out.

I think what you're seeing is simply the normal (if unfortunate) variation in font rendering in different browsers and on different operating systems and OS versions. There's a multi-post blog on the Typekit site that describes all the variations caused by different rendering systems across browsers and OS'es <http://blog.typekit.com/2010/10/21/type-rendering-web-browsers/>.
Short of converting the text to images (which has many disadvantages versus live text), I'm not aware of any way to avoid these variations.
