OT: Color palettes for pie graphs

Okay, this is pretty random, but I'll ask.
I'm busy making a pie chart that has about 15 wedges. I want to pick a good scheme of colors that have reasonable contrast. Anyone seen any examples of a good palette for making pie graphs? I'm randomly picking colors and not really liking the end results.
That's not an InDesign question (in fact, I'm working in Illustrator, and this is a design question rather than a software question!), but this is the board where I spend most of my time. So I thought I'd post something off-topic. Anyone have any suggestions?

Consider using fewer colours. Yes, that means fewer wedges. That means merging the smallest 10 or so wedges into one “other” slice. If you, or your patron, insist on using all 15 values, consider then making a second, smaller pie to illuminate the contents of the “other” slice.
Another option is to use patterns or gradients to expand the display options without requiring 15 distinct colours.
Finally, if you must have all 15 slices and must use solid colours, then do not use a legend. Label each slice either on the slice itself or with a line pointing to it. The alternative to that is a key with 15 labels and 15 colours, some of which will not have much difference, so there may be confusion about which colour is used in some slices.
Remember: charts are supposed to make data easier to understand. All to often they don’t.

Hi all,
Can I define the colors of a chart by a custom color palette in Design Studio (as you can do it in Web Intelligence) or does SAP intend to implement such a function in a next release? With CSS this isn't fully possible, because it doesn't allow you to coloring the additional line like the corresponding main line.
I've already seen and commented this post Re: Custom Color Palette for Charts / CSS, but it's still unanswered. Maybe I've with a new discussion more success.

Custom Color Palette for Charts / CSS

Is there a way of creating a custom color palette for charts (as you can do it in WebIntelligence) and install it on the tomcat?
Or will I have to set my custom colors in the css? And if so: where can I find a description of classes for Charts? Is there any description of css classes at all? All I could find was a list of classes for a crosstab (but no description).

How do you display a color palette for InDesign

I would like to have a similar color palette displayed that is used in PhotoShop for my InDesign work. Right now when
clicking on a swatch color it brings up the rgb or cmyk sliders, but I would like to have the full color spectrum available
to select from as in PhotoShop

You can acess the color picker by double clicking the strok or fill proxies in the tool box or color panel rather than the swatch, but Keep in mind that this is an RGB colorspace tool, and the potential for doing great harm to spot colors or CMYK mixes is tremendous if you exit with the wrong set of values highlighted, so I generally recommend giving it a wide berth.

Defning own color palette for Chart Items

Hello,
i have a requirement for several Cockpits, the values of all diagramms of actual year should have a special color, which is not defined in the color palettes Tradeshow, Streamline or Enjoy.
I don't want to change the color for each chart, i'v already tried the Portal Theme Editor, but i was not able to change color settings for charts.
Is it possible to create custom color palette which i can choose in the global settings in the chart item dialog?

1. Go to the following directory on the server side Installation Directory \SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\images
2. Find the file there named as VisualizationConfig.template.xml
3. Rename this file to VisualizationConfig.xml
4. Then edit this file and add the color for the palette as you required (RGB colors are used)
5. Check there are no errors in the config file, otherwise the standard palette is applied – you can define only one Corporate palette, and the palette ID must not be changed
6. Finally, you need to reboot Tomcat after editing the config file.

Changing color table for intensity graphs

Hi, I've been working on superimposing intensity graphs and I'm almost getting it, I'm just having trouble with color table, it is suppose to be composed of a 1-D array of 256 colors
I have 2 intensity graphs each with a different color table (256 color - 256 locations in the color table array). I need to "squeeze" both color table into a third color table for the superimposing of the 2 intensity graphs. therefore I figure I would take every other color value from each of the first 2 color tables (so each color table shrinks to 128 color) and add the values to form a 3rd color table so that the bottom will correspond to the first color table and the top will correspond to the 2nd color table.
I can do this manually, but it takes WAY too long, so I've been trying to use some kinda of algorism, but I cannot succeed. Anyone have any suggestions? it seems that color table is an unusual kinda of array

I think this is what you're after (attached). The easiest thing to do is to decimate, then concatenate your original color tables to form your new "squeezed" color table. However, keep in mind that you also have to squeeze, or remap, your underlying data values to correspond with either one half of the color table or the other.
See if what I did makes sense.

Cannot make changes that stay to color palette for an Apple shape

I really hope someone can help me. This seems like it should be simple so clearly i am doing something wrong. On my menu, I have used an Apple shape (line highlight 64x4) as a button. The problem is that I cannot change the color of the button to the pantone I need. I have gone into the color tab and hit "edit palette" and then opened colors, gotten the color I want and am dragging it to the color option bars, and it goes into one of the boxes, replacing one of the existing colors. But when I go to select the color as my active highlight, it's not there. Can someone please help?

I continually have this same problem and have never found an answer that resolves it once and for all. I had this problem on my last computer and am encountering it again even after completely reinstalling windows along with office.I
I have three IMAP email accounts but only one of them, the largest by far, has this issue. I also have a Google Calendar which is synchronized with my outlook calendar using a tool called Sync2 from 4Team. I asked them about this problem and they say they
never heard of it.
I have looked several times for a solution to this issue but like in this post there is never a solution provided.
The other pertinent information is first that I am the only user of this computer, there is only one account defined in Windows and I have administrative rights to it. Second, the problem comes and goes. I may be locked out of deleting emails
for a few hours and then all of a sudden Outlook will load a bunch of new emails and allow me to work my inbox. Other times I may not see this problem for a few days and then suddenly it is back again. Rebooting does not correct the issue nor does just
restarting Outlook.
Does anyone know what causes this problem and how to resolve it?

Tick color property for XY graph

I wish to change the tick color of XY graph programmatically. Then my program written as below. My bar graph contains 4 y scales. So i think the for loop should not be a problem. However, i get the error which stated ' Specified property not found'. Can somebody explain to me what is the cause of this error? Thank you

Thank you for bringing this to us. We are aware of the issue where using the XScale,TickColors,AllElements returns the error 1058 and are looking into fixes. Hopefully using the other two XScale,TickColors Properties will provide what
you need at this time.

Getting the correct color palette for mobile phones

Can someone help me getting the correct colors for the phones? I know there is 256 and occationally 4096 colors, but which are the valid ones?. I keep getting colors melting together since i am using the wrong palette, is it the "webb-safe" colors that are also in the phones? If anyone could please enlighten me I would be really happy, since otherwise I have to write a program that displays them in the emulator and then manually check the hex values to get the correct ones.

Thanks for the answer, I have downloaded nokias emulators instead to view the colors ( 24bit ). If I someday compile for phones with lower colors I have to take care of it then instead.

JDeveloper 11.1.1.1 - PPR for pie graph is not working

I built a simple ADF page with DEPARTMENTS (Read-only Form) and EMPLOYEES (Read-only Table). For the EmployeesView (VO) I added an addiitional pie chart to the page with SALARY as value and LAST_NAME for the slices.
The first strange thing I got is an error message when I try to preview the pie chart in the wizard:
Unable to retrieve data: JBO-25002: Definition oracle.adf.rc.model.dc.DataControls.dcx of type null is not found.
After that I defined a Partial Page Refresh (PPR) for the chart based on the Read-only Form by referencing the ID of the form (::pfl1).
I can compile and run the page. The chart is displayed for the first selected department but does not refresh when navigating between departments.
The same sample application ran fine with 11.1.1.0.2.

Use one graph palette for several graphs

I'm displaying information on two different graphs. But these two graphs must be coordinated : when I modify the zoom on one graph, the other graph plots its own data in the same interval of time than the first graph.
Is it possible to use only the graph palette of the first graph to control the zoom, cursors, etc... on both graphs?

yes that's possible: just use property nodes to read properties from first graph and write those values to property node of second graph!

Where is the color palette for the chosen Keynote theme?

Each Keynote theme has its own look and its own colors, right? And if you create a bar chart, all the colors of the different bars will nicely match the chosen theme.
So, shouldn't these few theme-compatible colors be listed somewhere in the color chooser? If I want to draw something using a few objects (or if I want to highlight some text using color), I want to choose from exactly those few theme-compatible colors.
Is that possible? I'm really confused as to why such a list of colors is not readily available as a palette in the color chooser?! Or is it, somewhere? I don't want to choose some ugly color that doesn't match the theme!
