OT - flat panel video monitors?

Anyone know anything about the Sony-lmd1420 monitor? Are there any issues with going with a flat panel vs. a CRT video monitor?
Thanks.

For color correction in FCP or Photoshop, you can hardly go wrong with a good pro CRT with SMPTE C phosphurs. But since a lot of folks these days are viewing on LCD TVs, it might not hurt to have both to judge by.

  • Hooking up 17" LCD Flat Panel Apple Monitor to an older G4

I have an older G4 and bought a 17" LCD Flat Panel Apple Monitor Studio Display to use with it. However, the plug from the monitor doesn't fit into any of the G4 connections. Am I crazy? I thought these monitors were created for the G4s. I tried the USB port, but nothing happened. Am I gonna have to get an adapter?
Sorry to be so ignorant. Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance.

The Apple Studio Display 17 (LCD) \[Clear lucite with white] has an ADC connector. Displays with ADC connector require a computer that supplies the required 25 Volt power through the cable, or if you use a DVI to ADC converter (with its own AC power cord) you can use a display card with DVI connector.
Which older G4 or what speed in MHz?
The PCI graphics and AGP Graphics cannot supply the 25 Volts to power this display. Gigabit Ethernet and later have the Power supply and the fingers in the AGP slot to pass that power to an ADC-equipped card.

  • UltraSharp 2407FPW 24.0-inch Wide Flat Panel LCD Monitor Supports HDCP,

The Dell UltraSharp 2407FPW 24.0-inch Wide Flat Panel LCD Monitor Supports HDCP. I am going to order a Mac Pro and it has an Ati Radeon X1900 XT which is HDCP ready. But I really want an Apple Cinema 30 inch Display. Does anyone know how long it is going to take Apple to release the new displays with HDCP? And does anyone recommend the Dell Monitor> Is it better than the Apple Cinema Displays? Thank You.

looking at both up close I think the 3007WFP looks nicer than the apple 30 inch, it also supports HDCP.

  • Apple Flat-Panel HD Monitor

So I bought a Custom Built computer from Craigs-List and I got a 24 inch Apple Flat-Panel HD Monitor with it. When I was at his house testing it, it ran great and the screen worked fine. He did a System sweep on all of his files and I took it home. I then hooked it up at home and the screen didn't work. I then plugged in my old monitor and tested that and it worked fine. I checked what the problem was on why the Monitor didn't work. I then found out that I didn't have the Drivers.
So I guess the question is... Do you guys know where I can download the Driver that will allow my monitor to work?

There is a driver called WinACD but I don't know anything about it except that it exists. I've never had to use it.

  • Could I connect my PS3 to my Dell Flat-panel LED Monitor (s2309w)?

So I own a dell 23 widescreen flat-panel led monitor (s2309w), is there some type of chord that I could buy to connect it to my PS3? This is what I have:
    http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/displays/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=corp&sku=320-7339

Simple answer is, you're not gonna be able to get audio with only your PS3, and that monitor without a receiver of some sort, or a TV with audio input.

I just bought this monitor, and now realize it doesn't have speakers in it.  I don't see where I would add them.  Can anyone help?  Could you please tell me know kind of speakers would work, and how I would attach them?  Kind of defeats the purpose if I can't listen to music or watch movies.  Thank you!

  • Urgent - iMac G4 Flat Panel - Is Adding Monitor or Flat Screen TV Possible?

    Hello,
As a present to my husband (mac guru) I would like to know if with his iMac Flat Panel G4, is it better to buy a 28 inch samsung computer monitor (flat panel) that he can also hook up his mac to or a kind of flat screen/panel LCD TV. The guys at futureshop and bestbuy seem to be "confused" when talking about macs and not pcs. With the computer monitor, there seems to be questions on if we'll be able to hook up our satellite tv... and with the tvs, there seems to be confusion on if we can hook up the computer. One of the reasons I want to hook the computer directly is my husband has had problems converting (burning to DVD) some videos with music background from iPhoto without doing a software update which requires us to change the timing with the audio and video in our already created slideshows. Please help quickly as some sales finish tomorrow. I need to know what to tell the store... i.e. what kind of jack or cables or capability I am looking for. Do I ask for USB port, coaxil input or what? Thanks in advance,
    Karen

Yes you can connect a display or monitor but exactly which ones depends on which iMac G4 you have.
All iMac G4s have a Mini VGA port this will allow you to connect any standard PC Monitor (with a VGA connector) and mirror the iMac's internal display only. The later iMac G4's also allow the connection of S-Video and Composite Video devices (most TV's have this type of input) which allows you to mirror the display on to the TV.
The MiniVGA to VGA and Mini VGA to S-Video/Composite adaptors are for sale online in the Apple Store ($19US/£15) or here.
If you wanted to extend the screen size again it is possible on some iMacs but requires a firmware hack that will invalidate your warranty.
I can't understand how having an external display will solve the burning to DVD issues though.....
Post back with your Screen size and processor speed for exact info - or read this recent post

  • G4 Ti4200 & Samsung Flat Panel Monitor

I cannot get my AGP based MSI G4 video card to work with my Samsung 17" TFT Flat panel monitor.  The screen remains blank during POST and Boot.  The video card works fine with my old Trinitron CRT.
Anyone else have this issue? anyone got a solution?
My old GF2 based AGP card works fine with this monitor, and I tried a PCI based GF2 board from a differnet maker also works fine with the Samsung, but I also tried a PNY FG4 board and it also does not work

Did you ever sort this problem?
I have exactly the same symptoms, and its driving me mental. (MSI G4ti4200 and syncmaster 171s)
I can't think it's a power suppy issue, but I am under the suggested 200W combined at 185w.

  • Exactly what cables and hardware do I need to connect my early-2008 MacBook Pro to a flat-screen TV monitor to have both video and audio?

    Hello--
I'm trying to figure out how to connect my 15" MacPro Book from early 2008 to a Sony flat screen TV monitor. I've been told I need a "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" and a "HDMI to HDMI" cable, but I've also been reading that some cables only work with 2010 & 2011 laptops and that I may need additional cable/hardware to obtain audio. Could someone advise me on exactly what products I need to purchase?
    Thank you!

Which MacBook Pro 15" do you have?
With the silver keyboard (Early 2008)) or that one with a black keyboard (Late 2008)?
If you habe the Late 2008 you can use a miniDisplay Port + Audio to HDMI like that one (stereo sound) or that one (5.1).
If you have the Early 2008, it's not so easy, because you need a DVI + Audio to HDMI like that one (the Audio Channels had to be converted to Coaxial!) So much more adapters! Maybe there is a manufaturer which has the all in one solution)
Both MacBook Pro DOESN'T support audio on the video output! The later ones (Mid 2010 and later) supports Audio output within the miniDisplay Port.

  • Flat Panel Monitor Dimming

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel monitor that keeps dimming itself to the lowest setting. This seems to happen when it goes to sleep. When the user awakens the iMac it stays dim and we have to go into System Preferences and choose monitor and then slide the brightness bar to the right.
Any ideas on how to stop it from getting Dim so many times during the day?

Try zapping the PRAM. The other option is to trash the file: Macintosh HD > Users > <your username> > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist . This will clear your preferences but often solves issues regarding preferences as the system re-generates a new plist file. The best thing to do is just move the file to the trash and not delete it. If it doesn't clear your fault you can restore all your preferences by dragging it back.

  • Powermac 8500 Flat Panel Monitor Options

I have a PowerMac 8500 and my Apple Multiple Scan 15 monitor is making noises, the green power button flashes, the image distorts bowing inward on the left side, or the screen doesn't light up at all.
What Apple branded flat panel monitors can be driven by my computer? The Mac 8500 has a DB 15 connector, I believe.
Would I need an adapter to connect the flat panel display, and which adapter?
I have 2 Apple Flat panel 17"? monitors that came with my G4's I could test, if I had an adapter. Is this a good idea?
    Thanking you in advance.

You don't need to buy an Apple display. Any brand LCD display can be used with a Mac, provided that the computer had adequate graphics support for it, with a suitable hardware interface. If you buy a used display, be sure that it can be returned if there are any problems (like dead pixels). When you consider the initial cost of shipping and possible cost to return a bad display, I'd be reluctant to buy a used one at eBay. Many sold there are high-mileage units pulled from corporate use. If there are any retailers in your area selling used computers, I'd check with them first. At least you'd get to try it out before buying and avoid shipping expenses. Otherwise, the prices of new displays have dropped so much that buying one for your 8500 isn't money wasted, since the display can be used with any newer computer that you might purchase.
Have you ever added VRAM to your 8500? It shipped with (2) factory-installed 1 MB VRAM cards, and is maxed out at 4 MBs with an additional pair of 1 MB VRAM cards. You might want to consider installing a Mac-compatible PCI graphics card having onboard SGRAM or DDR-memory, to provide better performance for a newer display. If you go with an older graphics card, you'd be better off buying a display with the standard 4:3 aspect ratio - like your old Apple display. The optimal resolution setting for a widescreen display (16:9 aspect ratio) may not be supported by older graphics cards. Two old (but still good) graphics cards are the ATI Rage Pro (8 MBs of SGRAM) or the ATI Rage128 (16 MBs of SGRAM). Both of these cards have a VGA port, eliminating the need for an adapter. You could find these for very little at eBay - but they must be Mac-compatible versions. Cards pulled from PCs aren't compatible, unless they can be re-programmed with a Mac ROM. A newer graphics card, like the Radeon 9200, would be capable of supporting any modern display, but costs more than your 8500 is worth. That's when you should consider investing the $$ in a slightly newer, used Mac (like a G4 tower) with AGP graphics.

  • HP flat panel monitor - does it need a driver?

Can I just check if it is necessary to install a different driver for a HP flat panel monitor, as I tried to connect a HP 19 inch display and the display looked a little fuzzy, certainly not as clear as when it had been displaying from the old PC. Thanks in advance

No drivers should be necessary. Check the Display system preference and make sure the monitor is being driven at it's default (maximum) resolution. Some monitors don't auto-detect correctly, so your Mac may not have set (or even recognized) the correct resolution.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicksilver and HP L2335 Flat panel monitor?

I'm considering buying an HP L2335 flat panel monitor to connect up to my Quicksilver which currently has a GeForce4 MX AGP card but will shortly have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB card.
Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues?
    Kerry

    Hi,
The normal AGP slot provides 45w of power. The 9600 card is really a 9800 card that has reduced performance, half the rendering pipelines for instance. This was done to lower the AGP power demands and to remove the aux. 12v power supply (i.e. ATI 9800) because some folks are worried about the overall power consumption and fan noise.
The 9800 can require as much as 70w at full power, so the need for the extra 12v is needed. The 9600 Mac/PC version, being reduced in ability, was made to use less than 45w, so the normal 9600 PC aux. power connector and cooling fan were removed - and fingers were crossed.
This leaves the individual machine's AGP Slot to provide a full 45w of 12v power to the 9600, some do -some don't. Tricky isn't it, marketing is wonderful.
Personally, I find the ATI 9800 fan not to be objectionable and the extra performance is great. Adding the 12v aux. power wire is easy as pie, so installation is easy.
    Regards,
    Dave
