• Images load funny, videos don't sync if on another tab, and I can't drag and drop Google Drive files.

I've always used Firefox, but the past couple months things have started getting a bit screwy and I am not sure why as, to my knowledge, I haven't installed anything new. I first noticed it with images on webpages. If they load while I'm on another tab, when I switch back it's a white block until I scroll up or down (so the image is off the visible screen) and then when I scroll back to the image it's there. Videos also won't sync right if I switch to another tab while it's loading. I actually have to refresh the page and wait on that webpage in order for it to work. The nail in the coffin for me, though, is that I can no longer 'drag and drop' files to collections in Google Drive. I was always able to do this - and I can do it in other browsers like Chrome - but now not in Firefox. I'd hate to switch browsers, but these things are really irking me.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

• Video conversion

Guys - forgive me - I am new to Apple. I picked this forum, without knowing the product. Having copied all my files from my PC to my new Mac I am unable to open any of the videos I shot with my Sony Handycam, and some of the video "Funnies" I have saved which came as email attachments / cards - etc. In Windows, you just buy the latest version of Nero - and off you go, MPEG, MP4, AVI - etc etc. Basically you can convert from "Whatever" to "Whatever". I have looked at the App Store - and lots of options. I don't do a huge amount of editing. I am not looking for all kinds of effects, I basically want to be able to make DVD's from my HD Handycam (or whatever) of family vids for my Grandaughter (we are 3000 miles apart most of the time) and still be able to view various formats of card / funny videos I have collected over the years. Thanks guys - sorry again :-). Paul

Hi David - Many thanks for that solid advice. Which forum would you have suggested ? I looked at the list and just leaped into one where I thought the guys would have some ideas. Maybe it's a "Me" thing - but having transferred ALL of my data to the mac - I expect to be able to sort it out with the Mac. I would MUCH rather buy the best software, rather than have half a dozen free Apps that are each good for only one kind of format change. As I said earlier, in Windows, you buy Nero, and then you stop worrying and scratching your head !. Thanks a lot David for helping a struggling new Apple user. To give you a smile, I actually bought 3 years Apple Care protection plan - giving me all the support I could ever need - and I am talking to Apple care tomorrow - as I CAN'T install it !!. This is an Apple problem I hasten to add - not mine. The number on the box (bought from an Apple shop in the UAE) does not register with Apple US. Cheers David - Paul

• Photo booth only records partial Video no matter how long it is...Help!!

ok so i wanted to make a funny video to send to my friend. I turned on Photo booth, chose the video option, and hit record. I proceeded to completely embarrass myself on camera for about 5 mins, and i clicked stop. When it stopped, only like the 1st 18 secs were recorded. I thought maybe i clicked stop on accident, so i tried it again, and it was the same problem.. is anyone else having this problem? if so is there a solution for it? please help...thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions, C Dot MooDy
is anyone else having this problem?
I have not seen any specific post of exactly your problem, but a few users have posted questions about how long Photo Booth can record, so they might be asking about a similar issue.
For instance, a search of iSight discussions about known Photo Booth recording time limit:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1450644&tstart=50
if so is there a solution for it?
For a solution, consider the same suggestions I offered in the topic linked above:
(1) Be sure you are keeping Photo Booth (PB) as the foreground app; i.e., you can always see "Photo Booth" by the  in the upper left corner of your display. Don't click on the desktop or any other open window while recording. Recording stops on my Mac if PB is not the active app.
(2) Other things that might be contributing to your problem:
• Don't let your Mac go to sleep or allow its screen saver to work while you are recording.
• Check and, if necessary, modify settings of background apps that might be interrupting your Mac during your PB movie recording. Examples would include Mail checking for new email, iCal executing an alarm, your Software Update... performing its scheduled check for software updates.
I do not know that one of those might be your problem, but if you can find no other cause, and if you must record long clips with PB, consider any of those ideas you think they might have an impact.
(3) Also consider these suggestions If your Macbook runs slowly or exhibits any other problems in addition to your PB issue.
(4) If all else fails, you might try iMovie to see if it works better for recording longer movie clips on your Macbook. While not a one-click app like PB, iMovie HD can add Video FX (Effects) after you have recorded your clip. If you cannot get PB working, iMovie might be worth considering as an alternative.
(5) If you would rather not use iMovie, perhaps a PB clone application like WebcamTweaker or Freak Show will work for what you want.
Please let us know how it goes.

• Problem with video recording

I am very infuriated based on what happened today. While my cousin and I were recording some video scenes for some funny video we were making, the camera suddenly stops recording videos. Why does it do this? I currently own a Canon PowerShot SX510 HS camera containing an 8 gigabyte SD card. Once this camera stops recording, it does not say anything that the memory is full. It doesn't let me record anything. WHY?

Check that the speed of the SD card is speed class 6 or higher. How long were you recording, and in what resolution? According to the user manual, an 8GB card records for 1/2 hour approximately in full HD mode. By going to a lesser quality video, you will increase the time to about 45 minutes in HD, and about 1 1/2 hours in VGA. Is your display set to show the remaining record time? This should display across the top of the screen and be doing a countdown as you record. If it's not showing, you will need to check your camera settings to make sure it's on. Sounds like you maxed out your card, so would a videocam be better for you? The SX510 HS is made primarily for shooting photos, and as a "bonus", it has a video mode for getting short clips. You may just need to carry a few spare memory cards when you do the videos to avoid missing video moments.
Since I don't own the SX510, maybe someone in the community has some other ideas how to get around the time limits to your satisfaction.

• Recording Video and Audio at the same time

Hi!
I just want to know whether there are video recording options within Sountrack? I'd like to record (hopefully funny) videos (via the in-built camera) and add layers of sound immediately afterwards. Is this possible?

The way I tried doing this yesterday was by starting to record from my isight in iMovie 08 and then recording the audio in garage band at the same time.
That's a good idea! And will be much more "natural" than a later lip-sync.
After I finished I exported the audio iMovie and played around with the timing for about 10 minutes until I could sync up the audio to the video of what I was playing.
I would export the GB project to an audio file and then import the resulting AIFF into iMovie to finish the movie.
In my experience, syncing shouldn't be so hard - in iMovie, you get a kind of reverb effect if you're 1 or 2 frames off and listen to both audio tracks. This reverb vanishes once you're right on time.
For easier syncing, it could be helpful to do what they do in movies with a clapboard: Have a visual/optical clue with and impulse character, like clapping your hands, and use that to align video and sound. Fine tune by aligning the two audio tracks.

• Quicktime pro and video?

Hi, if I get QT pro, will i abe able to play avi/mpeg etc. videos and transfer them to my IPOD video? I have lots of little videos from my canon camera which play fine in iphoto (not to mention tons of funny videos friends send). I just want to import those videos from iphoto to my IPOD video. Seems like it should be easy? Just confused after reading a lot of posts. Any simple reponse? Will QT Pro do this? And what converter format is best.
Many thanks

You've got a few more hoops to jump through first.
Apple is no longer selling the Pro upgrade for version 6.5.3 (the only version that will run on your system).
You'll have to upgrade to 10.3.9 and buy QuickTime 7 Pro.
Since the video iPods are not shipping it's hard to say just what video formats it will play. Trust that they will be "standards based" so your .avi files are out. As are MPEG 1 or 2 formats.
Your computer will be very slow exporting to the H.264 video codec but may be able to process standard .mp4 files.
If you can view the file now (using QT Player) you should be able to export. MPEG 1 and 2 will require additional software to export.

• Problem with ipod, lagging, freezing, and also skipping to the end on video

i've had my ipod for about 4 months now and i can't help to realize my fairly new ipod is slowing down on loading.
when i first started, a white screen comes up and in the middle, it has an ipod and reads, "www.apple.com/support"
main reason why i came to this place.
thats fine to me, it works when i restart it.
then, i press a few buttons, Music -> Artist -> and whatever i want to listen to, but you know how the pages are suppose to pass? my ipod suddenly lags up(slows down) and at the top it shows that im going to those pages, but the screen won't change, then after 30 seconds, the page is loaded.
when i play a song, it tends to freeze a couple times and play again, i don't think this is such a big problem, because it only freezes for about 1 to 10 seconds at most.
also since i have an ipod video, i like to put some funny videos on it. the video when i play it, it is frozen for a couple seconds and play, but plays all the way at the end, meaning that the video has been skipped to the end of it.
these are my problems, anyone who has any idea what so ever what is wrong with my ipod then please reply.
note!!
i have tried restoring over and over again.
i have dropped my ipod a few times, but not that far from the ground.

Did you Reset it or Restore it in iTunes? And if the latter, it successfully completed the Restore?

• Really really loud macbook fan - with video example!

recently, my mac has been making a really loud noise, and it is obvious that it is the fan.
the video is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVIwrGe17x4
and a better example is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDjmYiUdybI
any ideas?
i've had a look inside my macbook, but there seems to be nothing inside the fan.

I feel your pain. Hardware problems are big headaches...and your fan's noise almost caused me one. I have to say though, that was an extremely funny video! It looked like the camera man was sniffing the computer like a curious dog. Also, what military training film was playing on the screen? Scary. Maybe it scared your fan, too.
Good luck with the 'puter.

• Embedded links in text no longer available in Yosemite's Messages?!

Hello! I've been using iChat and Messages for years with my co-workers and I've discovered that in Mac OS 10.10 embedded URL's no longer seem to be possible. I am used to selecting text, hitting [command]-K and pasting in a URL before I send a message, but now my only option is to past in an ugly, raw URL in my message. This is a huge problem when I send a link to a funny video or cat meme picture whose name or descriptor is in the URL, completely ruining the punch line. I have to tell the message's recipient not to read the URL but to simply click on it and trust me, which ruins the joke. How am I supposed to rickroll my friends? I can still embed a link in Mail or even TextEdit. Even in this online forum format I can link in that stupid Rick Astley video.
Dear Mr. Apple,
Please let me add embedded link to my messages in the Messages app in Mac OS 10.10.
Love,
Bruce
<Link Edited By Host>

Hi,
From time to time the thinking on this seems to change.
AIM stopped their App and other Clients (at that time this included iChat) from sending hyperlinked text due to several incidents of malicious code in links.
Only plain text links could be sent.
Some time later, when people seemed to have forgotten about this the ability was added back.
It would seem that the issue is back again.

• Few issues with plug in's I need help with.

Hi guy's! I bought my 17" G4 powerbook yesterday and I am trying to get it setup to work on all the webpages I visit. My first issue is that on one site I was told by pop up that I needed the wmp 9 software so I went to the downloads site and dl'ed wmp9 for osx10. it was a 7mb download and once finished it told me it was not compatible with my osx.
I am running osx tiger 10.4.3
My next issue is that images in a thread did not load, only blue question marks appear. see if it happens to you in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1241324&forum_id=34
last issue is that I got the following message:
The page “Family Guy: Peanut Butter Jelly | Funny Videos @ GKKO.COM” has content of an unspecified MIME type. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed
when I tried to view this page: http://www.gkko.com/funny-videos/1197/family-guy:-peanut-butter-jelly
I am a mac newbie so please give me the idiot version of how to fix this. Thanks a million!
g4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) powerbook 17"

Hi, lextech, welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
I went to the downloads site and dl'ed wmp9 for osx10. it was a 7mb download and once finished it told me it was not compatible with my osx.
Are you sure you downloaded the version for OS X? Here is the download page for WMP 9 for OS X.
My next issue is that images in a thread did not load, only blue question marks appear. see if it happens to you in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1241324&forum_id=34
The blue question marks are missing image markers. Did you try refreshing the page? This page loaded no problem for me using Safari 2.0.2 under OS X 10.4.3. This page is graphics-intensive. What kind of Internet connection do you have?
when I tried to view this page: http://www.gkko.com/funny-videos/1197/family-guy:-peanut-butter-jelly
Those movies require Windows Movie Player, so once you have that installed, it should work.
BTW, you will probably also want to install the free RealPlayer. Click on the small blue button that says "RealPlayer - Free" in the upper right corner of the page.
And it never hurts ot have a backup browser available to try sites out that don't work in Safari. There are several excellent ones available. The one I use is Firefox.
Let us know what happens and if you have more questions.

• Can I Preload External MPGs?

I have a lengthy piece that uses a lot of external MPGs in
addition to embedded content. It's fine on my development machine,
but I just viewed it with the client on their plant network and the
movies took
forever to load. I'd put a "Loading" animated GIF in-between
them, but it didn't animate and, even if it had, the piece really
drags through those loads.
Is it possible to pre-load the next MPG while one is playing?
If so, how? Also, is there some trick to getting an animated
"Loading" graphic to play while the next movie is loading?
Thanks for any advice...

WMV files are played in the movie icon via the Windows Media
Player ActiveX
control. On some machines there is an unavoidable delay while
the AX control
initialises as it loads up the movie for playing. It has been
a source of
frustration for me for years!
You can try hiding it off screen, then use a zero-second
motion icon to move
it back on screen as the movie starts to play. On many
machines this appears
to happen cleanly, but on others you will see a momentary
black flash as the
movie begins to play. Seems to be a hardware thing that's not
controllable
by us. You may find the momentary black flash more preferable
though. You
could, for instance, put up a black box with "Please Wait,
Loading". The
text disappears just as you move the video back on screen.

• How do I get a downloaded media player to actually work

I am trying to view videos online and I constantly get that ? and a dialogue box asking if I want to download Windows Media Player, so I do and the application cannot be opened. The icon after dowloaded is just a little piece of paper, so I am thinking it doesn't recognize it as an application. It then proceeds to ask me to specify the program it would like to open in. It just doesnt work. I would like to view videos online. How do I go about a successful download of a media player????

Still getting this message from Safari!
The page “Funny and Extreme Videos - DUI Sobriety Test - Funny Video Clip - KillSomeTime.com” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:

• With all the hysteria behind Final Cut X do you feel that Logic will inherently become Garageband?

There is a funny video from one of the companies thaqt produce instructional videos for Logic, etc and the guys states he has a pre release version of the new Logic. It was and is a hoax video released around April fools time but the video has Logic sporting a GUI with woodgrain sides, crazy easy preset.. honestly it was hysterical when i saw it. That was then... now with Final Cut X looking more like iMovie versus Final Cut Pro 7 I'm wondering if we can expect the same type of treatment to our beloved DAW of choice? Especially since the market is saturated with DAW all using the "PRO" tag. Your thoughts and please be kind and lets have an intelligent discussion so this doesn't get banned or removed.
