Does anyone know how to get to the Hour Meter on a JVC GY-HM150U?
Has it been removed?

No. It does not have something to do with FCPX directly. That is why the question started with (OT) Off Topic.
Yes. It does have some thing to do with FCPX indirectly as these have become the cameras I shoot with.

  • Does anyone know if MOV or MP4 files from the JVC GY-HM150U will work with the Camera Connection Kit and then be readable by iMovie or similar apps?

The JVC GY-HM150U camera and others in it's line say they offer recording in two different formats:
    Native .MOV format
Fastest HD shoot to edit workflow. Edit immediately on Final Cut Pro™ or Premiere™ without conversion or transcoding
    Native .MP4(XDCAM-EX™) format
    Native File Recording
Because it uses QuickTime™ as its native file format, the GY-HM150U is the perfect choice for users of Apple's Final Cut Pro™ editing system. Both HD and SD MOV files recorded by the camcorder can be dropped directly into Final Cut Pro™, keeping them first-generation and eliminating the time-consuming process of file conversion. For users of all major NLE systems, including solutions from Adobe, Avid, Grass Valley, Vegas and Apple, the GY-HM150U supports the MP4 file format, which can be brought into your editing system without re-encoding.

So will the Camera Connection Kit see them properly and transfer them over to Photos, and then will iMovie be able to handle them? Or is the CCK restricted to only formats derived from DSLR cameras with "DCIM" folders, as I have heard?
Any knowledge, especially first hand testing, would be greatly appreciated!

Changes made to correct the recorded file paths.

Excuse the late post but just wondering if you came up with a solution for this problem? I experienced the exact same issue but copying the movies from Aperture into iTunes (which worked) still didn't allow them to be played on the iPad. As they had played faultlessly when imported directly from the camera connection kit!

  • Importing from a JVC GY-HM150U

    Hello,
I just got this JVC GY-HM150U camcorder, and the files are not recognized by iMovie.  I tried Finalcut Express, and same problem.  I haven't tried FCPX yet, but I am guessing it will be the same.
I am using many versions of OSX and iMovie, since I work with a media lab of 30 machines.  Strangely enough, I managed to get it to import on one laptop which is using iMovie '11 9.0.9 (1795) on OSX 10.8.5.  But it doesn't work an iMac with the same software configuration.
    Thanks for any advice.
    -Matt

    According to:
    http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp
this impressive beast has a big choice of recording formats and it is supposed to work with FCP.   Which formats have you tried?  .mp4 should be OK.

  • Is anyone using JVC ProHD clip manager with premier pro?

i recently purchased a JVC GY-HM150U camcorder (my 1st experience with JVC) and am trying to figure out how to use their ProHd clip manager software to get recorded clips imported into premier. i can do it one clip at a time, but it is pretty darn cumbersome; there must be a better way?

I disagree. Any advantage AVCHD has in visual quality over bitrate quotient is not worth the computing overhead for RT editing. I've not used Panasonic AVCCAM cameras in particular, but general implementation of AVCHD is not very flexible with resolutions and framerates, like shooting 720p 60. And the cameras that do offer more settings options go outside of the AVCHD standard into propreitary implementations that have spotty support.
    * edit  -  It looks like I was wrong about 720 60p being non-standard for AVCHD. I guess it is just non-standard on the several Cannon Vixia models I have used, including my own. One of the Vixias we have at work uses h.264 in an .mp4 wrapper for 720 at either 4 or 9 mbps.
My main gripe with AVCHD is its RT performance as a native source in Premiere. I edit multiple AVCHD and Cannon XF projects each week. Using Premiere CS5.03 on a six core i7 980 with a GTX 480, Projects using AVCHD take about 3x long to export than comparable projects that are using Cannon's XF codec (similar to XDcam 25-50mbps). Also, on several systems properly configured systems, ie. -core i5 2500k, i7 2600k, i7 980, CS5x & CS6x, 12gb to 32GB memory, GTX cards, CS5x & CS6x,.... on each system the XF codec projects invariable run smoother than AVCHD projects. The AVCHD project's timelines are more prone to random choppiness and bugginess. With AVCHD, even if the sequence matches the source footage properly, there is still a yellow line above footage on the timeline, meaning playback will play by rendering each frame for preview in mpeg I-frame just before the CTI reaches it. The HD mpeg2 employed with Sony XDcam, Cannon XF, and JVC's XDcam  EX variant will not have a yellow line above the footage on the timeline and will not need to render preview frames for display.
The advantage of the simple HD codec becomes more apparent as the projects become more complex, like when adding video fx or multiple video streams.  When editing in Premiere's multicam panel gui, the AVCHD footage looks awful compared to Cannon XF. Also, you need a much more power system to do multi-camera editing with AVCHD.
There is not a debate on whether AVCHD has better quality/bitrate. If one were using higher bitrate intermediate footage like a FCP or Avid workflow, then AVCHD would be a better aquisition choice. However when editing native footage in Premiere, while AVCHD works, HD mpeg footage offers a faster, smoother and more stable editing experience. This comes into play even more when your computer hasn't really enough muscle for AVCHD.

  • A video camera that looks as good as the EOS 5DIII & the new 70D

Hi everyone.  I really want to make myself clear on my questions, so I'm going to preface them with a short wall of text.  My apologies.
I work for local government and we film political meetings, PSA's, informational videos, documentaries, and local government events (groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, roundtables, etc).  We are still entirely standard definition.  For the past 7-9 years we've only used Canon XL1's and XL2's, but in the last 2 years we've gone tapeless.
For our first foray into this, we first bought  JVC GY-HM150U's (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/821133-REG/JVC_GY_HM150U_GY_HM150U_ProHD_Handheld_Memory.html).  Our main desires here were:  small, universal file type (we use several different editing systems), a "super full auto mode" for our non-advanced users, XLR inputs for microphones, relatively inexpensive, and SD or CF card slots.  Obviously, we nailed all of these features with this camera, but the video quality is lower than we could've expected.
At the same time, we purchased a Canon EOS 5D Mark III for taking still pictures during events.  Then, to our ultimate downfall, we started using it for interviews and documentary type shoots.  I'm sure I don't need to tell you all the shock we were in for when it came to the amazing picture quality of this camera.  To take these two cameras on a shoot together is pointless as the JVC's could not even come close to the quality of the Canon's.  However, we cannot use the 5D as a primary camera during these shoots for several reasons (which I'll point out below).  We began following the development of the new EOS 70D with interest when we found out it woud fix some of these features.  Coincidentally, another department of ours purchased one and we were able to use it for a few shoots.  It does seem to have as good a picture quality as the 5D, but it still lacks some features we need.
So, in preparing next years budget, I'm looking for actual video cameras with the amazing picture quality of the 5DIII and the 70D, but doens't have the limitations of a still photography camera.  Any help would be appreciated.
Problems with the 5DIII as a primary video camera:
no follow focus, only records for 30 minutes segments, only 3.5mm audio input (need XLR)
Problems with 70D as a primary video camera:
no headphone output, can't adjust audio input levels while recording, still only records 30 minute segments, 3.5mm audio input
I'm an Audio / Video technician and video editor.  I do a lot of filming, but do not know much of the science and technology behind the inner working of the cameras.  As an example of our programs, below are two things I filmed with the EOS 5DIII.
Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm not a video guy.  Canon lists their Cinema EOS video cameras on a separate section than they use for their EOS cameras.
The cinema cameras and their specs can be found here:  http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/products/professional_cameras/cinema_eos_cameras
Based on specs, I'm thinking you would probably be well-served by the C100.  It takes the same EOS EF lenses as your 5D III so you can get the look you want.  It records in AVCHD with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 -- which is fairly common.
The cards are formatted FAT32 although it says it can record continuously for up to 12 hours.  I'm not sure how it pulls this off because no single file on a FAT32 filesystem which constrains individual files to a maximum of 2GB (that's a filesystem limit... not a camera or operating system limit).   I'm "guessing" that it automatically creates a new file and just keeps streaming video as one file fills up.
You should probably rent one to make sure it meets your needs.

  • Report on Cost And Utilization in PM Module

    Hi Experts,
I want some help in generating a report called Cost And Utilization in PM Module.
Any body can help me with some documents or if any body created same kind of report in Pm just do provide me some details on how create the report.
The requirement of this report is as follows,
This Report is generated from the service order or the notification which ever is latest on the equipment in the date range given by the user.
In Report I want to calculate the field Estimated Hours. The main problem we are having here is the Hour Meter infobject is of Type characteristic it is not key figure.
Based on the User input Date range the Estimated Hours calculation needs to be done. The Estimated Hours are calculated from Estimated Hours Begin and Estimated Hours End.
For calculating the Begin and End Hours we need to have some fields. The fields required for calculating the Begin and End are,
Initial Hour Meter,Adjusted Hour Meter,Fleet Management Date these three  fields are picked from the Equipment Master data for a particular Equipment and the Hour Meter Reading is the latest Meter Reading of the equipment it is populated from the Service Order or Notification which ever is latest in the date ange given by user.
There are some conditions in calculating the Hour Meter Reading Begin and End.
If the Fleet Management Date (Start-up Date on EM) started before the input date Date Range (From-Date), calculate the average usage (in hours) based on the initial hours and
If the Fleet Management Date started after the From-Date, use the Hour Meter (EM) as the Estimated Hours Begin.
If the last PMN (or SO) fell short of the Date Range (To-Date), obtain the Estimated Hours End by applying the average usage to fill the time-gap.
If the last PMN (or SO) fell after the Date Range (To-Date), get the Estimated Hours End by getting the next to last PMN performed inside the window parameter,
Adjusted Hours, if not zero or null, needs to be added to the Ending Hours to achieve the real number.
The example for calculating the above requirement is below,
    User Input Date Range:  Jan. 1, 2006 - Dec. 31, 2006
    Initial Hour (Equipment Master):  10
    Adjusted Hours (Equipment Master): 0
Fleet Management Date (Equipment Master):  Dec. 1, 2005
    1st PM Notification (Feb. 1, 2006):  410
    Last PM Notification (Feb. 1, 2007):  2810
Second to last PMN (Dec. 1, 2006):  2410
Equipment was put into service (12/1/05) before the Date Range, needs to find the Estimated Hours Begin.
The first PM was performed (2/1/06) exactly two months from in-service date (12/1/05).
         Average monthly usuage from first PMN = (410 - 10) / 2 = 200
         Estimated Hours Begin = 200 + 10 = 210 (estimated Hour Meter Reading on Jan. 1, 2006)
         Average monthly usuage from the last 2 PMN = (2810 - 2410) / 2 months = 200
         Estimated Hours End = 2410 + 200 + 0 (adjusted hours) = 2610 (estimated Hour Meter Reading on Dec. 31, 2006)
         Estimated Hours Total = 2610 - 210 = 2400
If you have any queries regarding the requirement just let me know i will let you know.
    Thanks in advance
    Bobby

    Mahee,
We have maintained all personnel no of the employess working under a particular Maint.Work center in HRMS tab. Employee master data for all Infotypes are maintained in Personnel Management in HR module.  So wen the Employee enters Time details of his working hours per day, he has to mention the maintenance order Or it is like a standing order on the time sheet per line item. Wen transfer of working hours will be done on  a particular order the entire cost will be reflected in Cost tab page. Since me have maintained different Activity type/Activity price per employee I am confused about the flow of cost...
Ur suggestions were valuable.... hope to get some more clearity...

  • How to Verify the Variable Input in Customer EXIT

    Hi,
I have a requirement to find out "Estimated Hours Total Calculation" with User input date range. I know little bit knowledge about Customer Exits please some one give me how to write code in CMOD. I have requirement how to get the Extimated Hours Total Calculation is follows ....
Actual hours are the Hour Meter Reading used by the truck, it's calculated based on the "from and to" date parameters.
Collect the initial hours and adjusted hours from EM.
Get the PMN and Service Order data close to or within the Date Range.
    1) If the Fleet Management Date (Start-up Date on EM) started before the input date Date Range (From-Date), calculate the average usage (in hours) based on the initial hours and the first PMN (or SO) falls within the Date Range to estimate the hour usage at start of Date Range.
    2) If the Fleet Management Date started after the From-Date, use the Hour Meter (EM) as the Estimated Hours Begin.
3)If the last PMN (or SO) fell short of the Date Range (To-Date), obtain the Estimated Hours End by applying the average usage to fill the time-gap.
4)If the last PMN (or SO) fell after the Date Range (To-Date), get the Estimated Hours End by getting the next to last PMN performed inside the window parameter,
calculate the average usage between the two PMN's (or SO's) then apply the weighted average to fill the time-gap.
Adjusted Hours, if not zero or null, needs to be added to the Ending Hours to achieve the real number.
    For Example
Please give me your valuable answers. Please let me know if you need any further information.
    Thanks
    Dave Sam.

    hi,
well, your requirement seems clear but complex and needs more clarification:
    - what kind of infoprovider do you use
    - what is posted in your provider, I mean which characteristics and and key figures (name and descriptions)
    - what is the user input
depending on that, the implementation may vary
    Please clarifiy
    Olivier.

  • Netting two contract accounts

    Hi,
I have two installations that are some distance apart.  Installation A has a consumption meter (one register).  Installation B has a net meter (two registers) as it has a solar panel.   Both installations have meters read hourly.  The business partner that owns both installations would like to receive a bill that covers both installations, but NETTED.  This means that meter at installation B is netted (consumption - generation) and if that shows net outflow then this needs to be netted against meter at installation A.  This netting needs to happen at hourly meter read level.  I guess I can produce a consolidated/summary bill for the customer across the two installations, so that will net them at that level, but how do I net two registers on the same meter that has hourly meter reads, to give me hourly consumption/generation at installation B?
    Thank you,
    mike

Thank you for your response.  A simple example of what we are trying to do is this:
Contract account 123, device A, two register sets
Contract account 456, device B, one register sets
Hour 1 of the day, device A register set 1 : 100 (consumption)
Hour 1 of the day, device A register set 2 : 100 (generation due to solar panel)
Hour 1 of the day, device B register set 1 : 100 (consumption)
Hour 2 of the day, device A register set 1 : 110 (consumption)
Hour 2 of the day, device A register set 2 : 120 (generation)
Hour 2 of the day, device B register set 1 : 120 (consumption)
    The need now is to net device A:  110-100 (register set1) - 120-100 (register set 2) = -10
    Figure out the energy credit say -10 * $0.1 / unit = -$1
    Then apply this -$1 to energy charges from device B: 120-100 (register set 1) = 20 * $0.1 = $2 -$1 = $1 for overall bill
However, since all the devices in this example are read hourly, we need a method to capture the reads hourly, net them hourly for net meeter and then net the two contract accounts.  As you said through collective billing I can net the two contract accounts.  however, how do I net the two registers on the device if they are read hourly?
    Thank you,
    mike

  • Boot Camp - Snow Leopard MAJOR ISSUE

Ok, I'm sort of new to the Apple arena and have been running a MacPro under BootCamp with Windows XP on the other side. I set BootCamp up to run Windows priority and thus to get the Apple side I held down the Alt key at start up and selected Mac HD to go to Apple.
Furthermore, I been working on the Apple side more and more to learn FCP. So, I recently updated FCS2 to FCS3 . . AND . . while at it updated to Snow Leopard. Now comes the change and the problem.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I had not started up Windows even once, because the boot up priority changed from Windows default to Mac default. Now perhaps that should have alarmed me but it didn't because again I am trying to get more FCP screen time to learn it and thus decided I liked that boot process and would just leave it.
Well, today I booted with the Alt key and selected Windows and sure enough Windows booted HOWEVER the mouse will move all over the screen BUT it cannot click or select anything on the screen. Also, when moving the cursor to the task bar an hour meter appears AND one can do nothing. In addition, right click does nothing and CntlAltDel does nothing, nor does Esc or any other key(s) for that matter.
I have two MAJOR pieces of work on the Windows side that I need to finish up that include over 200 man hours of work and even if I could just get it running for a matter of one day I would be fine because as I have already said, I am moving to FCP and those two are all that is left in Avid.
Any suggestions? Please anyone help. The one project could result in a major lawsuit that could cost me over 4000 + legal + the over 200 hours I have paid for already. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

OK I got it working but what a nightmare. I will outline it here for those so coming to the same threshold.
    If the above happens try:
    1. Boot and chose Win disc couple times.
    2. Boot and chose Mac disc and insert the SL and explore not install.
    3. Shut down.
    4. Boot and chose Win disc.
    5. Screen should now be operatble and the keyboard and mouse functional.
    6. The last option is Boot Camp drivers.
Don't go haywire when it uninstalls all the drivers then installs them and they are not all there. Also, I'm not sure you even have to do all this although I let it in accordance with the way it suggested it wanted and it took me forever to get it all straightened up and I'm still updating Windows and the like.
Also, IE 8.0 simply WILL NOT install nor open any more and thus no Windows Updates. Looks like my Windows/BootCamp update has been ruined by the SL update. Bummer, cuz I will now have to re-set-up the 2, XW8200's that I just disassembled to get rid of and thus I'll be back on PC/Windows . . again!! :o(

  • Measuring point,counter & meas document

What is the concept of Measuring point, counter & meas document in regard to PM ?

    Hi,
Measuring Points are  measurement of physical condition like temprature pressure, and consumption like fuel, and reading like hour meter , speedometer etc.
measuring points just like as log book of equipment
it is created by ik01, against technical object with  characterstics of which we want to take measurment reading
and  when actual reading are recorded against measuring point  , a document is genrated called measurment document
it is crated by ik11, ik14 , ik34  against measuring point

  • Pr CC / Mac - Cannot open project!!!

    '08 MacPro w/ OS X 10.7.5 - Pr CC v7.0.0 (was up to date but uninstalls/reinstalls)
I have been natively editing a multicam project for the last 2weeks:
    * 3Cams = 2 Panasonic AVCHD + 1 JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4
I'm finished with the MultiCam and am now editing the last 2mins of my 2hour project when...  Pr CC CRASHED! It just dissapeared!!
When I try to reopen the CC project, I get: "The project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file of codec could be associated with this sequence type."
When I start a new CC project and try to import the JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4 footage, I get: "Unsupported format or damaged file."
I have tried Uninstalling/Reinstalling Pr CC over & over but I am still unable to open the project or import the footage into a new project. I am also unable to update Pr CC via Application Manager: "Update Failed. Updates could not be applied. This patch is not applicable for you."
As we all know, the Pr CC project will not open directly in  Pr CS. No matter because now I'm being asked to enter my SN/Activate CS which is unable to connect to the internet. (I'm writing this via my connection to the internet)
** I've been at this for 2days now!!!
** Support has been frustrating at best.
    Anyone experienced this?
Any thoughts on how to get it all straightened out?
I may have to set aside time to redo my entire system as troubleshooting is too frustrating, confusing, and time consuming.
If I were to upload the Pr CC project file to my Dropbox... would some kind soul Download/Open it... and export an XML of the final sequence (07_ReCap), which I can then open in FCP?
(or at least tell if there is another problem besides the preview CoDec)
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11052139/MISC/FitzwaterMarsh.prproj (430KB)

Hey man! I've been struggling with this issue for over a month and i finally solved the problem. Open the damaged project file with "TextWrangler" or any other notepad alike app and by pressing cmd + f find the 12 rows starting with
    "<MZ.Sequence."
and now open a not damaged project file with the text editor and find the same 12 rows. Copy and paste the ones from the working project file to the damaged one and save the file. If everything done right, then it should be working now Hope this helped
the rows should look something like this

  • Best HD Camcorders for easy workflow?

I've been using a Canon Vixia HV30 for a few years. It's a good quality camcorder, but I'm making the leap into professional video production and need a more robust camcorder, better quality, tapeless, more options, etc... Another important factor is importing into FCP X. I'm tired of using firewire and the lengthy time to encode footage I import.
I've read that the JVC GY-HM150U has an incredibly easy workflow into FCP since it shoots .mov format. Some people say the quality is substandard with this camcorder though and some people despise HDV. Does anyone have thoughts on this camcorder or the Panasonic AG-HVX200A? My budget is less than $3000 but I've seen the Panasonic on sale for less. Any other suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks,
    Bob

I use JVC GY-HM 100 E (150 is newer version, but the same camera with little more functions added) I must say that a better camera for FCP7 or FCPX is hard to find. This is simply drag and drop. It shoots in native mov. format, so there is no converting. Just drag and drop. I would buy this camera again to morrow if had to.

  • HD Flash Drive Camcorder Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a high quality prosumer HD flash-based video camera...roughly in the range of $250-350? I want to stick with a camera that is compatible with iMovie and FCP. I've checked the Apple site for compatibility concerns, but there still seems to be hundreds to pick from
I tried a Sony HDR-CX190, but the video was terrible and the sound pickup was awful. I was going to try the Canon Vixia HFR300, but I heard the battery was only 30 minutes, unless you bought a more expensive battery.
Am I expecting too much for this price range?  Will I need to higher in price? I use a JVC GY-HM150U at work, but don't need anything that high-end.
    Any help is appreciated

I'm looking for something in this range as well. Willing to go a bit higher in the price range, if the quality is there. Seems to be a lot of junk on the market.

  • Ipod Battery Problem (No not the usual question)

I have a new 30gb 5g Ipod which is the successor to my 15gb 3g Ipod so Im not new to the whole Ipod thing, but I was wondering if I have a battery problem: (Events leading to problem)
    1. I sync the ipod and charge it so its full
    2. I listen to it for about an hour meter goes down about half way, which is fine because its only the 3rd charge. BUT.......
    3. I "turn it off" by pressing play/pause and switch the hold switch on.
    4. 2-3 days later I turn ther hold switch off and my ipod doesnt turn on like the battery id fully depleted, and I have to charge it for 3 or more hours to get it to turn on.
Do I have a problem. If there is a common fix could you please help me. Thanks.

I think this is a 5th generation iPod that would clearly be under warranty.
It really does sound like A faulty battery - it's quite common for the battery meter to dip noticably after an hour of use on a fully charged battery because the meter is not really accurate and reflects the battery charge based on what drain is occuring at the time. What is needed is to fully charge the iPod over 4 hours or so, then set it to play continuously and monitor how long it takes until it switches off. That should give a reasonably clear idea of how well the battery is performing.
It's important to note however that the symptom described is not uncommon with a faulty lithium ion battery.

The AIM/AOL/ICQ are already standard and have been since iChat 1
Chax does the the Unread thing.
The See-through (Heads Up Display ?) is the only one that can't be done as far as I can see.
