OT: looking for Logic Audio for Windows XP

Apologies for the crass request, but I'm looking a cheap copy of Logic Audio that will run on Windows XP. I just found some old Logic Audio recordings I did years ago, but I've lost my LAGW 4 CD, and in any case, I'm not sure if LAGW 4 even worked on Windows XP .... I've come to love Macs at work, but I haven't saved enough to make the move at home.
Thanks,
Kevin Murphy

I assume the key you refer to is analogous to the dongle I have for LAGW, and it sounds as if you are not willing to part with yours . I don't care much about stability, since my main interest at the moment is to do an audio track dump (with edits) and MIDI export so I can continue working in Cubase in the near term. Contact me at [email protected] if you are willing to help me out. Otherwise, I'll keep looking. It's frustrating ... there must be many thousands of people out there with unused copies of Logic Audio for Windows, especially since it was never very stable, even on Windows 95 .

  • Compatibility with Logic Audio FOR WINDOWS

    Hi
I'm considering buying a MAC to do sound recording on. I used to do sound recording on a PC using emagic Logic audio gold 4, running Windows 98. I still have all the old .lso files. Any hope in heaven of asking a mac running Logic Pro 7 to recognise these? If Apple's as clever as it seems to be, this should be doable shouldn't it?
    Thanks

  • Where to buy right Logic Audio for an iMac2007

Hi. I have the chance to purchase a good second hand  mid 2007Apple iMac : 21",  2.7 Intel Dual Core, Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 3 gigs Ram.
Is it best I purchase and use this iMac exactly as it is and also purchase the relative version of Logic Audio - which is either Logic Audio Pro7,
    or ( Logic Studio ? )
I think it may be Logic Pro7, as I think it may have been released in early 2007, which I gather would make it the right compatable version of Logic to run on this 2007 iMac ?  If so, then I would very much like to purchase a full version of this software. I have browsed the internet but it seems hard to find. Might anyone be able to help ?
OR- Do I have another option ? :  Upgrade the running system to 10.8 Mountain Lion and upgrade the Ram to 8 gigs.  ?
BUT ,  I am told that this is not necessarily the thing to do as the upgrade may conflict with this 2007 iMac / Logic Pro7 ?
I would be appreciative of your advice and help.  Cheers.

Well before you go down that expensive route, how about taking it to an amateur electrician (or perhaps you can try this yourself) and re-applying solder to the damaged joint.
It won´t be amazingly easy, the solder used on the logic boards melts at a very high temperature as opposed to "hobby" solder.
That´s what I´d do. Second bet is a spares/repair machine from eBay - ideal candidates are machines with broken screens.

  • Advice for logical workflow for color correcting and color grading

I am an experienced user of  PPRO CS5.  I am a novice with color correcting and color grading.  I am also just barely competant in AE CS5.  It has been suggested that I use AE for color correcting my footage.  Can you advise me as to the most logical workflow for doing this in coordination with PPRO CS5?  Are there some tutorials that you recommend?  I subscribe to Lynda.com and I think that they have some great tutorials, I am unsure as to where to begin looking and what to search for.
    Thanks so much,
    Lisa

You can do it that way, sure. But you don't have to. You can accomplish quite a lot without leaving PPro. This has two major advantages. First, if you aren't using AE for anything else, it gets you out of using AE at all, so gets you out of climbing another set  of learning curves.
Second, even if you are using AE for other things (I use AE to make motion lower thirds, for example), doing the work in PPro can improve exporting speeds. This is because AE gets restricted to a single processor core in some workflows as discussed in this thread and others (search around if you're interested). This can make exporting take 3x as long or longer, depending on how much footage has to be processed by AE.
So, how to do color correction without leaving PPro? Use either a luma corrector or luma curve effect to set black and white points, and contrast (use a waveform monitor to help). Then use a three way color corrector effect to get rid of any residual color casts (use the vectorscope to help, and the RGB parade, etc.).
If you find you have specific colors that need to be fixed, you can apply another three way color correction effect and use it to make that secondary color correction (for example I find the blue dyes used in many labels tend to fluoresce under fluorescent lighting, and has to be desaturated with a secondary color correction or it "blooms" on an HDTV -- IOW, it has to be made "broadcast safe").
If you want tutorials for using these tools, the ones on Creative Cow by Andrew Devis are quite good, and free. The ones on color correction with PPro cs6 start at tutorial number 47. There's a bunch of them. All good.
Finally, get a copy of Van Hurkman's Color Correction Handbook. May be the best technical book I've ever read, and it'll certainly point you in the right direction for doing color correction work regardless of which tools you use to do it.

  • Which operating system is better for Logic, Apple or Windows?

My current computer(apple is starting to show signs of wear when operating Logic and I'm thinking of getting a new one to help speed things up. I've been looking into both operating systems and the cost of the Apple one is putting me off a bit, but I've been so satisfied with the one I've got. The cost of a windows system is cheaper, but the old one I had was unimpressive. Any opinions would be appreciated along with reasons. If you do suggest a windows computer which do you recommend 32 bit or 64?? Thanks

Logic does not run on Windows computers anymore, only on Apple Hardware.

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.

  • Recording iChat Audio for Podcast

I'm struggling to find a solution for recording audio for podcast interviews and am thinking that perhaps there's an easy answer I'm overlooking.
I have no problem connecting to an interview subject using iChat, however, my voice levels are only 50 to 75 percent as strong as the subject's. This same situation occurs when I'm using Skype. I have all of my input levels set to maximum.
Tests with Ecamm Call Record and Audio Hijack Pro have a similar problem.
Also, is there a way to record audio directly from iChat with these third-party apps?

    Umm, a Pretty problem.
I would first test with several Buddies to get their opinion on how loud you seem to them.
I can turn up my volume but it still requires that I speak as loud as I would in a conversation and face the Mic. If I sit too far back from the mic I get too quiet no matter how I talk.
I find this with people who test with me who confirm they have System Preferences > Sound > Input volume cranked up. (the worst are Australians sitting outside on the veranda for Breakfast and trying to show me the view with a laptop)
As I have two Macs sitting quite close to each other I do get feedback if I connect the two in a Chat so I have to pay attention to the volume setting.
Having said all that if the resultant recording seems too low in Volume at You end I would personally use iMovie 6 to teak the volume up when I spoke - either by Extracting it and cutting it up and increasing those portions or by using the purple and yellow dots to do so.
The Eccam page actually says this...
    Create a Podcast
Conference Recorder makes it easy convert your QuickTime movies into MP3 or AAC format. Simply drag a recorded QuickTime movie to the included "Convert to MP3" or "Convert to AAC" utilities, and let them do the work for you. Additionally, Conference Recorder records each side of the conversation on separate tracks, allowing for easy post-editing. The included "Split Movie Tracks" utility will automatically export each movie track to a separate file.
This would mean that you could turn up the track for your Audio in Quicktime Pro
Launch the file but not Playback
Go to the Window Menu > Show Movie Properties
    Select the Audio Setting tab.
Increase the Volume db on one Audio track and see if it your speech by playing.
Adjust as required (Change track if required).
Save File to save the adjustment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Firewire chain for external audio interface and hard drive

I use Logic Studio 8 on a Macbook Pro with a Presonus Firebox, an external Lacie Firewire hard drive for audio recording, and another Lacie Firewire drive for backups.
Is there a recommended chain order when chaining my Firewire devices together? I read somewhere on a ProTools forum that they recommend putting their Firewire audio interface Mbox2Pro at the end of the chain.
So right now I have Macbook Pro -> Backup Drive -> Audio Drive -> Presonus Firebox. I once had it in a different order with the audio drive first, but I found it was reading more slowly from/to the audio drive when it was in that order. I have no idea technologically why this would be the case.

I just found and joined this great forum. Following up on Ray's comments about his MacBook set-up, I have a similar MacBook 2ghz, 4mb ram, 9400 chipset, and am exploring getting into Logic Pro 8 and was wondering if my MacBook was underpowered, and whether I needed to step up right away to a MacBook Pro because of my lack of PCI slots for recording audio to an external eSATA drive.
I was encouraged to hear that the USB 2.0 connection for Ray's external WD 7200 hard drive has worked and improved things and his audio isn't getting choked and he is not getting the clicks and other problems.
I'm wondering if Ray or anyone else has any other tips on using a MacBook for Logic and for optimizing one's setup. And Ray, did you notice a point at which the clicks started? .. in terms of number of tracks? Or were they present from the outset? I'm wondering how many tracks you are running now on your system.
I might mention that I don't have an audio interface yet but was impressed with what I've read about the Apogee Duet. Any comments on interfaces and the Duet?
By the way, I'm just recording one instrument/one track at a time and perhaps occasionally two instruments at a time. And right now, my main purpose for getting into Logic is for editing and mixdown of pre-existing tracks that have already been created on a standalone hard-disc based DAW. If all goes well and if I like the whole Logic experience I'd expect to get a more powerful MacBook Pro or even a Mac Pro or whatever higher end iMac exists in the future.
To summarize, all I'm intending to do initially with the MacBook is:
    1) transfer individual digital tracks from a standalone hard disc-based DAW into Logic for mixdown and mastering.
    2) Record a few extra new tracks one at a time - probably not using any instrument plug-ins but relying on external synth/sampler/guitar sound sources ..in each song (maybe 3-4 tracks at most), and
    3) apply standard effects like reverb and EQ and panning to the mix down and master songs, each song containing a of approx 25-40 tracks.
My basic question is, can a MacBook 2Ghz with firewire 400, 4gb memory and USB2.0 to external hard drive handle this or is it underpowered? Thanks.

  • Is there an optimal disk format for logic

I'm about to receive my new mac pro 3ghz, 3 x 10,000 rpm raptor drives and one 250 gig apple drive. I'm planning to use the first raptor for the OS, 2nd raptor for logic audio, and the third raptor for sample streaming. I plan to use the apple disk to back stuff up.
My question is, (and it might be a stupid one) is there a preferred way to format the disks? Should i simply format all disks with the normal "mac os extended" ?
PowerMac G4 dual 1.25 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   about to get mac pro 3ghz

I don't think you can turn off journaling on system partitions anymore. Journaling allows for quick data recovery in case of a crash etc... so for the boot drive don't turn that off (even if you could). It won't affect the performance of logic because you'd put everything else on the other drives.
That said, you have enough drives and horsepower to maybe build a RAID array, have you considered that? You could probably do a RAID level 5 with those drives giving you nice fail over and increased performance, yes more so than 3 separate drives.
    Just a thought.

  • Re: Query for logical database

    Hi Experts,
can anybody giveme any link of step-by-step how to create a query from sq03,sq02,sq01 with logical database for CIK.
if anybody have done the query for logical databse for CIK give me ur input how to create.
    Thanks in advance,
    KK.

    Hi
Go to SQ01 -- Enviornment --Query area - select Standard area or global as you require.
Then go to Enviornment - Infoset - search for the existing infoset if available as per your requirement or create an infoset here.
Write the name of Infoset and click on create . Fill all the required field like name , logical database - CIK, press enter it will populate the structure of logical database CIK, you may include /exclude here the nodes, or keep it as it is.
    And press enter.
Now you have to create Field group and the fields inside the each group.
You may create thefield group by clicking the create icone in the right hand side of teh screen and may drag the then fields by double clicking inside the group.
Please mainatin sequence as per the characteristic of the table, like first select masterdata then transactuional!
Save it. It will ask you for package, but click on local object and save it.
Go back , it will prompt for generate infoset, say yes.
Now your new infoset is coming among other infosets. (it is advisable to search for the existing infoset if available to avoide inconsistency in infosets).
Now select your infoset and assign this to user groups by clicking the tab for this, you need to select user groups for this infoset here, who will be authorised to use this query. You need to take care about the user group, as this will allow you to see your infoset at the time of query generation / display.
Save it and go back and again go back.Cross check that you are in standard query area (as selected in first step)
Now give the query name and click on create. It will show you your infoset , select that.
It will propmt you the next screen for name , no.of columns required, output formats etc.
Fill as required and go to basic list now you will have screen as SQVI and have to select your selection field and output filed. After selecting the required fileds save it and execute this .

  • Couldn't create jco client connection for logical system

    Dear Experts,
we are facing a strange issue in our custom webdynpro java application, few of our portal users are getting the "couldn't create jco client connection for logical system" for Model Data JCO Destination. below are details
    1. portal version 7.02 SP14 (we have recently updated to SP14 from SP02-- is this is causing the issue ?)
1.1. updated the NWDI track with SP14 SCA files as well as added latest WD Runtime SCA file deployed the applications to Production also.
    2. above said exception is inconsistent and happening for only few users
    3. ping and test of jco destinations are successfull in content administration as well as in SLD, destinations were added in the SLD system.
    4. cleared the JCO ARFC meta data cache in webdynpro console
    5. jco destinations are configured using uid/pwd, configured user is not locked active and tested in the backend by logging in with the same user.
    6. restarted the portal server
even though, we are getting the above said exception for few of portal users randomly.
Please help me on this ASAP, as i am not getting any further help on this.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello Ram,
Check the JCo Pool Configuration settings of your JCO Destination. This message normally comes when the maximum connections has been reached. Increase the "Maximum Connections" to some number depending on the usage. A good habit is to disconnect the jco connection after executing the same in your webdynpro code if you don't want it to be synchronous.
    <ModelName>.modelInstance().disconnectIfAlive()
    Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Vijay
