• App Store should purge old reviews

I've noticed a lot of apps in the app store being dragged down in their 'star' scores by old reviews of previous versions. A few apps I downloaded in the early days were deservedly savaged by reviewers for bugs, crashes, missing features and poor performance. But some have released massively improved updates since then, that answer all the original problems, and sometimes more. So I think the poor star rating is now misleading, and may discourage people from trying or buying newly great apps.
Apple should either purge the old reviews when a new version is released, or always make sure that reviews for the most recent version appear first (which isn't always the case)

• Find function seems totally dead

On a Mac platform, I cannot get the Find function to do a thing. As usual, the release version has more bugs than the 4.1 beta. Why can't the beta be slightly tweaked to fix the bugs and then released? Why is the release massively different from the most recent beta and completely full of bugs? Also, the filter as a function of the flagging system doesn't work.

Sorry I'm grouchy. I loved Beta 3. Beta 4 crashed constantly, Beta 4.1 finally got it right. I told everyone and their brother how great the final release was going to be. I pre-ordered it. I got it today, installed it and it crashed while importing my old library. Off to a great start. Then it finally imports the old database and starts working and the *FIRST* thing I try to do is sort some images by keyword and absolutely none of those functions work. The "Find" command does nothing. I select a library, enter a keyword in Find, select "keyword" from the pulldown menu, and it doesn't do squat. I'm familiar with how this function is supposed to work from the beta. It just does nothing, no matter what options I select.
Next I tried this new "flagging" thing. I put a group of images into a quick collection, flagged them all as "pick" then went back out to the whole library vew and tried to filter by "flag" and nothing comes up unless I tell it to select everything. Flag filtering doesn't work either.
Now, it may be that I'm retarded and if so, someone please point out the error of my ways and I will apologize and move on. Until then, I say that the product has some flaws. If you can't FIND any images out of thousands of images in a library, we have a problem. IMHO.

• V4.0 won't start. crashes each time. Had to go back to previous version. Version 4 is just not ready for general release, it is massively messed up. The online fixes here had no effect whatsoever. VERY DISSAPOINTED

tried automatic upgrade from within 3.6.. did not work..crashed upon re-start. tried remove program completely for a fresh install..same thing crash upon V4.0 start up....
Reinstalled 3.6.15...
4.0 is NOT READY for general release. Tried the fixes as suggested here, but they were useless and no help what-so-ever.
Very dissapointing, as I've been using Firefox as my only browser since it was introduced years ago.. this may be the end of the line....VERY DISSAPOINTED

• IOS 8.1 massive battery issue

Since I've been updating my 5s with latest 8.1, my 5s now facing a battery drainage problem!! Massive! I've been charged full 100% battery and with only 1 hour while playing slight wechat only, it draining like **** until 70%.. And heating like oven!! This never happen before! Even before i've been playing with heavy use of wechat, beetalk, games and video, it still remain 84%.. Now it's draining like water leaking.... iOS 7 is always better 1001% compare to iOS 8.. There is always a new problems!! U guys solved 10 problems/bugs, but again u guys will create 2 to 3 new problems!! What's wrong with Apple nowaday?! Think about to moving on to Samsung!

I'm also seeing something like this. I believe I may have isolated one issue that Apple have verbally acknowledged: Re: Did iOS8.1 fixed the battery draining and heating problem with iPhone 5s?
However i wonder if it's more general. Just a few hours browsing on my phone with very little running in the background uses a lot of battery. I go to use settings and it tells me that Safari has used 45% of th battery in a few hours. This never happened on ios7.
After each release of iOS there is usually a load of people moaning about battery life who don't understand the options of how their phone works but it does feel like there is a genuine issue here. A lot of the noise seems to be coming from iPhone5S owners, I wonder if the more General wifi issues are causing problems elsewhere......
i Don't suspect it will be that long before we see a patch.

• Apple releases Faulty program in Logic 9

Please note very important posts and test showing conclusive errors with certain plugins at post numbers:
55
56
71
79
(This is using Logic 9.1.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.3)
Ok, so Logics ram usage has been mentioned many times before, mainly from people who just want to make music and didnt know why they were hitting the "out of memory" message with Logic 9.
Im not ready to let this drop with Apple and creating a 64bit version of Logic IS NOT the get out card. Currenly Logic is using ram like a poorly programmed Windows application. It has 3 major bugs (these are under 32 bit AND 64bit mode but I will concentrate on 32bit for now)
1. It uses more ram to load a single instance of a plugin than it did under Logic 8, or than Ableton live does (Anywhere between 300-400 meg of "real" and "virtual" ram for an empty Kontakt 4 instance!)
2. It uses "real memory" and "virutal memory" in equal doses, which means you dont get the "in theory" limit of 4gb with 32bit, you hit 2gb of both and run out of memory. Ive not seen another application on Mac (apart from Apples also poorly programmed ram management in Safari) which uses real and virtual memory in equal doses as if its working like a Raid 1 arrary!
3. The biggest problem of all, it hordes ram and then DOESN'T RELEASE IT. (I might add Safari ALSO does this)
Number 3 is the biggest problem of all, which it never used to do to this degree in Logic 8. A lot of people have experienced the "lack of memory" error, closed Logic and reopened it only to find they had plenty of memory when they refreshed, here is a screen show to prove this massive bug.

In the above example I was testing simply Trilian and Omnisphere with their external server started. Logic was still chewing up ram for each patch I opened despite the data being put into the external server (not the same of course, the external server helped, but Logic was still adding between 10mb and 30mb each to real and virtual ram upon cycling patches). I might also add that the external servers (including Kontakt 4's) load exactly how big the patch is (for instance 1gb will take 1gb of ram) if you use Logic internally to do this It will use more like 1.5gb for a 1gb patch...
Anyway in the above example I loaded a hand full of patches in both Omnisphere and Trilian and put in one instance of AmpliTube 3 and a Logic channel EQ...already nearly 2gb of ram used!! I removed all the plugins and still this ram is used.
It should now read 200meg real and 100gb virutal (which is what Logic uses when you first load it with an empty song) - when I quit logic keeping an eye on the activity monitor you'll see the 300meg it should actually be using disappear first and the remaining gb's its hoarding pause for a minute before being properly flushed out of the memory. Very strange but ive noticed Safari does something very similar so whatever Apple are doing its messing up ram usage in both.
This week im going to run extensive tests, take screenshots and videos on how it handles ram compared to Logic 8 and Ableton Live. All I can do is try to submit them to Apple (somehow?) in the hope they'll fix this problem.
Now before you say it, at the minute NO 64bit Logic is NOT the answer.
Why? Because I have hundreds of plugins and only 4 of them are 64bit! in the mean time I CANNOT work only being able to see one 32bit plugin at a time, and have it disappear if I touch the track mixer with my mouse. There are time when I NEED to see 3 plugins at a time working together. I also dont like the floating window and I have a number of plugs where the GUI doesn't even load in the 32bit bridge.
I think its going to take about a year for all these plugins to be updated and some of my favourites will never be updated (the free plugins such as DFX and MDA which I use for creative purposes)
But the bigger problem here is that I never ever had problems with memory usage on huge 100+ track projects on my 8 year old G5 which only had 3gb of ram in Logic 7. Now I have a 16gb of ram and a brand new i7 processor It seems I can barely do anything with out worrying about memory usage!
Another reason 64bit is NOT the answer is because Logic continues to hoard, bloat and not release ram in 64bit mode. Generally users do not have more than 8gb of ram on their system at the minute (infact very few have splurged on the 16gb I have as it costs nearly as much as the entire computer and you get no benefit unless heavily multitasking, which in audio we're not...or everything is 64bit (or everyone release external servers for their sample management)) just because an application CAN make use of 16gb of ram doesn't mean it should...and if Logic continues to chew ram like this its going to eat into ram at an incredible rate (which it already is) and suddenly its 64bit mode when you have 8gb of ram in your system is only going to be as efficient as 32bit Logic 7 was with 3gb of ram!
Apple needs to do something about this poor ram management, opening and closing a song continually while you are writing or mixing is not helping the work flow at all. These are three HUGE bugs built into Logic and im very surprised a bigger fuss has not been made of these im also disappointed. I probably wouldn't have noticed them had I not been waiting for two months for all my new audio equipment to arrive and had so much time to test and play with Logic and noticed that when not even writing a song and just playing with no more than 4 tracks Id continually run into "out of memory" message. Last night I simply cycled through all my plugins to take screenshots of each (im planning on printing off an A1 poster of all my plugins to give me an easy to view visual look of what is on the system to counter the horrible list of developers names we have to cycle through!) and when I got to the end of list (keeping in mind I still had one track with no plugins on and id just been replacing the plugin with the next on the list) Logic had run out of memory!
I doubt Apple reads these forums so when ive completed my conclusive research Im going to need a way to get it sent off to Apple properly...any help there?

I suggest you update to 9.1.2, which supposedly fixes precisely some of the things you mention, and 10.6.4.
Get back to us when you've caught your breath and let us know if it's still happening.
BTW, from my limited understanding of memory management, it is completely irrelevant whether an app frees up memory while it's still open - it might be beneficial and faster to hang on to it, depending on what you're using.
The background stuff is irrelevant and rarely subject to a layman's "common sense" - concentrate on whether the stuff you actually work with is working or not.
And for that, it's 9.1.2 and 10.6.4.

• Massive Lagging and issues with Premiere Pro CC 2014

For the last year we have been in post on our feature documentary. We have roughly 15TB of footage that is all stored on a raid coming into our edit suite via fibre (I don't know much of the technical information about it other than it's trustworthy and works for the other suites in our facility). We're in the final stretch and locking edit February 1. But the issues we're experiencing are making it very difficult to advance and fine tune the edit.
Over the last month or two performance with Premiere has been getting worse and worse. We are experience lag in actions when editing. It could be as simple as moving the mouse, clicking or copy/paste which can result in freezing or lag where we have to wait a few seconds or minutes for the program to catch up with itself.
We've been trying to figure out what is going on and if we can do anything to eliminate these issues. We have removed all cache files. We have eliminated any unnecessary or old sequences from our project file.
I will note that our project file is massive. It's currently about 1.15gb in size. Our sequence is a little hairy also. Not sure if this could be causing issues, but it hasn't in the past. See image below.

This is a known issue introduced in CC2014.0. Some h.264 encodes have blurriness or noise periodically in some areas of the frame. The problem is most pronounced in regions of the frame with very little detail, like grass or pavement--or the T-shirt in the sample frame. We are working on a fix. Before you ask when the patch will be forthcoming, I'm not authorized to even hint at the timeframe.
Unfortunately, the only real workaround is to export to a format other than h.264. If that's not an option for you, then your best bet is probably to keep working in CC7.2.2 until the patch is released.
Sorry, but thats not completely true and by far not the correct answer:
The problems with random artifacts occurred with the introduction of a new version of H264 in CS6 but there you still had the option to export with the previous H264 Version via Media Encoder.
Since the previous H264 version is not available in CC, using CC7.2.2 is not a solution either.
BTW
Updating to CC and using the new Mac Pros with Mavericks is currently a total mess - no open cl rendering, random crashes, no usable h264 ... thanks adobe!!
... but we can track masks in premiere now ... wow!

Hi Forum,
can somebody help me. We have massive Search Performance problems in Interaction Center Webclient in Agent Inbox. When agents searching, for example for open emails, the time to get a result takes approx. 2-3 minutes.
Thats absolute inadmissible and endangered the running business.
The queury reading the eMails from the workitem tables is very very slow.
Could somebody help me with ideas to solve this big performance problem. Have somebody the same problems?
Thank you very much in advance for any information.

Another aspect you could check is the following:
Analysis performed didn't show anything strange nor any high consumers
of the response time. The processing time occurs, since IC-Web on CRM 5
is a bit demanding for CPU power.
The only thing that could improve the performance a bit is the
<b>buffering of org structure</b>, which is currently switched off for
SALES and SERVICE scenarios as per table T77OMATTSC.
The report <b>HRBCI_ATTRIBUTES_BUFFER_UPDATE</b> is running regulary

• Press release from FCC concerning tethering.

Note, this applies to those with tiered data only. Unlimited data users are not part of the settlement. So nothing has changed if you have the Share Everything Plan since tethering is included
http://www.fcc.gov/document/verizon-wireless-pay-125-million-settle-investigation
VERIZON WIRELESS TO PAY $1.25 MILLION TO SETTLE INVESTIGATION INTO BLOCKING OF CONSUMERS' ACCESS TO CERTAIN MOBILE BROADBAND APPLICATIONS
Washington, D.C. – Today the FCC's Enforcement Bureau released a $1.25 million consent decree with Verizon Wireless that resolves an investigation into whether the company had fully complied with the FCC's "C Block rules," requiring licensees of C Block spectrum to allow customers to freely use the devices and applications of their choosing.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said "Today's action demonstrates that compliance with FCC obligations is not optional. The open device and application obligations were core conditions when Verizon purchased the C-block spectrum. The massive innovation and investment fueled by the Internet have been driven by consumer choice in both devices and applications. The steps taken today will not only protect consumer choice, but defend certainty for innovators to continue to deliver new services and apps without fear of being blocked."
Verizon Wireless offers customers its 4G LTE service on C Block spectrum. Verizon Wireless bid at auction to acquire that spectrum, understanding that it was accompanied by open device and application obligations. Specifically, licensees offering service on C Block spectrum "shall not deny, limit, or restrict the ability of their customers to use the devices and applications of their choice on the licensee's C Block network," subject to narrow exceptions.
P. Michele Ellison, Enforcement Bureau Chief, said "This case was the first of its kind in enforcing the pro-consumer open access obligations of the C Block rules. It underscores the agency's commitment to guarantee consumers the benefits of an open wireless broadband platform by providing greater consumer choice and fostering innovation."
The Bureau launched an investigation after reports suggested that Verizon Wireless had successfully requested that a major application store operator block Verizon's customers from accessing tethering applications from its online market. ("Tethering" is using a wireless phone as a modem to obtain Internet access for another device, such as a laptop computer or tablet.)
The Commission also received an informal complaint alleging that Verizon Wireless had violated the FCC's C Block rules by making such a request. At that time, Verizon Wireless's terms of service required all customers who wanted to use their phones for tethering to subscribe to the company's Mobile Broadband Connect service, at an additional charge. In response, Verizon Wireless stated that the additional fee reflected the fact that customers who tether laptops or other devices have the capability to use more data capacity than others. At the time of that response, however, Verizon Wireless required not only unlimited data plan customers, but also customers who paid for data on a usage basis, to pay the
additional fee. Verizon Wireless asserted that third-party tethering applications could enable its customers to tether without paying an additional fee.
Under the terms of today's settlement, Verizon Wireless will make a voluntary payment to the Treasury in the amount of $1.25 million, and has committed to notifying the application store operator that it no longer objects to the availability of the tethering applications to C-Block network customers in the operator's online market. Verizon Wireless has also agreed to implement a compliance plan, requiring that:
· employees will receive training on compliance with the C Block rules;
· future communications with application store operators regarding the availability of applications to Verizon Wireless customers will be reviewed in advance by legal counsel; and
· Verizon will report any instances of noncompliance with the rule at issue that might occur during the two-year term of the plan.
In addition, the company recently revised its service offerings such that consumers on usage-based pricing plans may tether, using any application, without paying an additional fee.

Yea, I am not seeing the Unlimited plan users not being included in there anywhere, actually it includes the unlimited in addition to the tiered plans.

After the database call, the database connection is closed. But I found that the tablespace for Clob data is not released. Right now it becomes a critical issue of our production database. Anybody has any clue? Really appreciate.

Team,
We have a table of size 550gigs in size and we truncated the table , truncated sucessfully but space is not released in os level, what action we can take to release the space and this table has only one row and contains the binary data.
Thanks
PGR
Hello,
Yes space wont be released immediately .If large extents are in picture which I assume is your case it goes into deferred drop a background process which will execute after some time( time may vary).See below link for details.
As per BOL if extents are more than 128 it goes in deferred drop.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177495.aspx
You should wait for some time .keep checking the free space
Below discussion will surely help you in understanding.See Jonathan's reply

• Massive audio issues since Mavericks

Hello there.
Since switching to Mavericks my Motu Ultralite Mk3 has massive problems.
I have very loud "Pop" sounds and interuptions. especialy if i don`t play audio for a few minutes, the first time i press play
the speakers give the feeling they are going to explode...
any suggestions?

There has been an update release for 10.6.8 that
supposedly fixes things.  Some have said that
some of the fixes done for 10.6.8 work for Lion.
They do require messing with system files though.
May just want to wait for an official Lion update.

Thank you in advance.
Best regards
Luca Moschioni

Hi,
for uploading the photograph you need to do some customization.
1. Initial customization
Execute transaction code OAQ1 and put X in all the boxes.
Execute t code OAB4 and schedule the job
Execute t code SPAD and configure an output device
Execute T code OANR and configure the number range
Execute T code OAGI and deactivate Print list management system
EXecute T code SA38 and execute program RAPARAM and check for rspo/archive_format and make sure it should have 2 assigned on it.
2. Execute t code OAC0 and configure content repository
Execute t code OAC2 and make your document type
Assign JPG doc class to your doc type made in OAC2 in t code OAC3.
3. Now go to transaction code OAD5 and configure your settings
Come to t code OAWD and upload all your scanned photo to SAP
I know the procedure is tedious and lenghthy but there is no way out.
If it helps you then reward it.
Enjoy
