OT - Opteka High Definition Slide Duplicator for Canon Digital Cameras

I was on Amazon today and I noticed an Opteka High Definition Slide Duplicator Slide Copier, Model: SLD-A620 (to fit my Canon A620). It is also possible to buy one to fit my husband's Canon G5. Price range is about $60.
We do not have a slide scanner (just an Epson 3170 Photo flatbed scanner), so this caught my attention. I did not realize that slide duplicators existed for Canon Powershot cameras. Does anyone have any experience with the Opteka products ? Is this worthwhile and if yes, should we use the G5 or the A620?
Barb O

I haven't used it myself, Barb, but I hear good things about the Opteka.
Which camera do you prefer for normal shooting? That's the one I'd use. (I love my A620.)

  • I have MacBook Pro bought 2011. After downloading update for Canon digital camera, computer screen is flickering (like curtain moving in breeze) when scrolling on all websites (slightly less with Safari )

I downloaded from Canon website an update to my Canon 750 IXUS digital camera. It downloaded various software products onto my computer which are outlined in the computer's database of software applications. From that time, this flickering effect occurs when scrolling through all pages using Firefox and to a lesser extent on Safari. It is like the effect of someone blinking rapidly and constantly and looking at the screen. When not scrolling there is no such effect. It is very disruptive when trying to read a page.

  • A How To: Create a Widescreen High Definition Slide Show from the Organizer

[EDIT] I just tried another one and, weirdly, that produced an output with black bars around all four sides! So maybe this 'how to' is not 100%.  I have considered deleting the post altogether but, as it does still produce a superior slideshow quality file than the standard ones provided with Elements,  I've decided to leave it with this edit added at the top for additional info.[END_EDIT]
In answering a question in another forum I found a nice quick way to create proper widescreen high definition slide shows from just the Elements Organizer. Apologies if this is 'old news' to readers, but I've not seen this described elsewhere so I thought I'd share it.
The Organizer Slide Show creator, if not wanting to edit in PRE, provides a small set of Windows Media Player profiles to create .wmv files. But the best of these goes only to 1024x768 (a 4:3 monitor resolution setting). I've noticed, but never paid much attention to, that at the bottom of the Slide Size box there is a 'Browse for more' option that lets you search for additional Windows Media Encoder profiles. Investigation showed me that I can download the Windows Media Encoder software from Microsoft and create my own profiles. But even further investigation showed  me that someone had already done this! I've tested their full HD profile and it works just fine (1920x1080).
So if you are just after a straightforward slide show (i.e. not needing PRE features) but want it displayed on your Full HD TV set here is what you do:
Download the HD Profiles from http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/236895-hd-profiles-for-windows-movie-maker/. There's also a couple of useful SD sizes there as well. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Create your slide show in the Organizer. Obviously use appropriately sized images for HD. There's little point outputting an HD wmv file using low resolution and/or 4:3 aspect ratio images.
Save and Output your slide show.
In the output dialog ('Save As a File') scroll down to the bottom of Slide Size and select 'Browse for more ...'.
Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
Click OK and your Widescreen HD .wmv file is prepared.
Here's a Gspot analysis of my test output file. As you can see it is an HD file with a 16:9, square pixel, aspect ratio.
    Ta Da!

You did not mention a specific Premiere Elements Elements Organizer combo for this, so for now I will address this from the version 11, not Windows Movie Maker, perspective if I need to get version specific.
    .prx
The Browse for More is a well known route and does offer at least one Adobe profile for 1280 x 720 16:9. I am not sure where you came up with the lesser resolution,1024 x 768 that you mentioned. The Windows Media profiles have existed for several versions of Elements Organizer. Those Adobe ones that you do not see under Output Save As A File Movie (.wmv), can be found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path
    Local Disc C
    Profile Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Elements 11 Organizer
    Assets
    Locale
    en_US
    tv_profiles
in the tv_profiles Folder are included the .prx files
    .....10. 640 x 480 Enhanced Definitions
    .....12. 852 x 480 Widescreen Enhanced Definition
    .....14 1280 x 720 Widescreen High Definition
A homemade 1920 x 1080 16:9 30 frames per second .prx has long been sought but not that easily produced by many using with the Windows Media Encoder Editor. Apparently you have found one online, and it does get accepted into the Premiere Elements 11 Browse for More choices. And, if you do a gspot readout for the wmv output from Elements Organizer 11, it will display all the "right" properties that you hoped for and that are shown in your screenshot.
The bottom line, why bother with the wmv slideshow? If you take your original photos and size them for 1920 x 1080 16:9, use them in the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor (Crops used in preferences), use the Edit with Premiere Elements Editor command, what you get in Premiere Elements 11 is full and good in all regard. Have you tried it?
I can see your interest if this is HD going to HD (AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, but I do not see this for an Elements Organizer Slideshow that is going to DVD-VIDEO widescreen.
    More later.

  • Creating a high definition slide show in FC ?

Just totally new in this field, I am asked to produce a high definition slide show to be presented on a cinema screen. iPhoto seems too basic, PPS or OpenOffice probably won't let me create a self contained DVD show. So FinalCut could be an option, though I don't know to what resolution limit. I have FC HD, but consider upgrading to the new version if this would help. Is it the way to go or should I rather consider an other program? I must say that so far I have no idea of the definition of the pro digital beamer, nor if a DVD is a good support or if it will limit the image definition. It seems to me that high definition video should produce sharp still images too even on a big screen, but no experience really. Thanks in advance for some hints!

I'm a bit of novice here. I love Keynote for its ease of use, ability to easily support .ai and .eps art, and its cool transitions. I know it can generate QuickTime output which you could then convert to a DVD using iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. However, Keynote won't let you do things like move the graphics around (e.g., no "Ken Burns" effect).
I'm a little curious about the DVD thing. If you are going to be projecting this, life will be a lot easier if you just project it from a computer, rather than converting it to DVD format, which is really designed for TV/movie type output, not multimedia output, e.g., text. FCP HD will produce HD output, but I think I am correct that there are no current players that support HD DVD (about to change with BluRay and DVD HD).
Answer is it really depends ... how fancy are the effects you want to show? How much time do you want to spend learning FCP or Motion (both have a long learning curve)? Will you be able to project this from a computer or must it play in a regular DVD player?

  • Lens Corrections for Canon SX50 camera

Can Photoshop CS6 (Windows 8) make lens corrections for the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS camera?
My version of CS6 (64bit) is Photoshop: 13.0.1 x64 and CameraRaw plug-in is 7.3.0.71. There is a file
"Canon PowerShot SX50 HS AdobeStandard.dcp" size 118KB in the folder
    c:\Program Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\AdobeStandard.
However when I open a Cameras Raw file (*.CR2 for Canon) in Camera Raw and go to the Lens Corrections window with (under Lens Profile) Make = Canon I cannot find my camera in the drop-down list for Model. The list has 30 items ending with Canon PowerShot S100.
I have tried removing Photoshop, re-installing it and installing the updates, but this has made no change. I have been using Photoshop under Windows 8 since early in October 2012, and everthing else seems to be operating correctly.
    Pip Hamilton

The camera has built-in lens corrections, and Adobe already replicates these.  You cannot turn them off, so there is no selection to be made.
Here is what an SX50 HS raw pixel data really looks like using a raw converter that doesn't do lens corrections.  Notice the significant barrel distortion and the lens tube clearly visible in the corners:
Here is what the same raw file looks like in the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop, which has a way to tell you it is using a built-in profile, even when there is no external lens profile selected:
You need at least ACR 8.4 to see the added lens profile information.

  • Does Apple have fix for the Canon Digital Camera issue and 4.7 update??

    Hi All,
does anyone have any info about a fix for the communication issues with canon digital cameras and PPC users who updated to 10.4.7?
I think it's sad that a machine peopole buy to use for graphics can no longer download picture from a digital camera after up-daing software, as Apple recommends........
Alos, what is the kernel fix....?? any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill Anderson

    Hi,
    What apple are you running?
I have a Digital Rebel XT with PPC G4 with update 10.4.7. And many users with PPC and the update are having the same issue.
Also, if apple would get their updates to the other groups (e.g CANON), then maybe these issues would not come up, but Canon told me "We just can not keep up with Apple updates, and we got the intel versions working, but PPC have toubles..."
OS updates should not affect peripherials such as digital cameras, and the computer does recongize the camera on the USB connection.
    thanks,

  • Canon digital camera utilities

I've just got a new laptop with OS X 10.6 on which replaces my old one with OS X 10.4. I need to install the software for the Canon digital cameras but can only find 'updater' downloads for 10.6 which rely on you having the original installed on your computer. I have tried installing the software from the original discs but the computer doesn't recognise the CD, despite it spinning.
Does anyone know of anywhere I can download the full bundle of software that comes with Canon cameras? I have been to the Canon website, but that is where the 'updater' software is.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

I have Canon Camera Utilities running updated on my Snow Leopard. I moved everything over from my previous computer(s) using Migration Assistant and then Setup Assistant on the first bootup of the new Mac. I didn't need to re-install from the Canon Disk, so I don't have any experience doing it that way. Not sure, but it's possible that Disk might be too old for the new Mac to read properly. I know mine was from the 10.3 Panther era. Perhaps if you make sure you have Rosetta installed, the new Mac will then be able to read that Disk which was probably written for PPC Macs.
One possibility for a workaround would be to connect the two Macs together in Firewire Target Disk Mode and move that Canon Folder in Applications in its entirety over to the new Mac. I'm not sure of this, but there may not be any related files installed in places other than your Home Folder Library, and any of these should be recreated when you install, update and run the Application. I just had a very quick look and didn't see anything. So, moving over just that Folder which contains the Apps might be sufficient. (Make sure you have Rosetta installed, since the old Canon App will probably be PPC. The new Mac will be Intel.)
    Directions for Firewire Target.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
(The new laptop has Firewire 800, which uses a 9 pin Firewire cable and the old Mac may be Firewire 400 which uses a 6 pin cable, so you'll need a 9 to 6 pin cable. Check first to see what the Ports look like. The old 6 pin port is kind of rectangular and curved at one end. The new 9 pin is kind of square.)
The other possibility would be if you're in the US, you could call 1-800-OKCANON and ask for tech support for this issue.

  • Canon digital camera & os 10.4

I just purchased a canon eos digital camera and after spending some time learning the camera, etc... installed the canon software for transfering images from camera to powerbook g4...
when I tried to transfer images using canon's camera window I kept getting the message that it could not detect the camera.
after trying this several times and going through the usually checks to see if the camera was set-up correctly... I went to canon's site and:
"For now, Canon is not claiming compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4"...
does anyone know how to transfer images from a canon digital camera to a mac with os 10.4

Don't know about the EOS, but I use Image Capture to
transfer images from my Canon PowerShot S50. Try
launching Image Capture, then go to the Preferences,
General, and select "When a camera is connected, open
Image Capture." Quit Image Capture, and plug-in the
camera and see if Image Capture launches.
    Francine
    Schwieder
That's exactly what I'm used to doing in the old G3/Jaguar system. At my first try in doing the same thing in the G5/Tiger version, I had the following happen:
    A. Plugged in first to one of the USB 2.0 ports. The system didn't react at all, but the display on the Canon went dark, which it had never done before when connecting. Repeated that sequence several times, but Image Capture never launched.
    B. Tried plugging into a 1.1 port (on the keyboard). Now the image remains on/powered, but the app never launches. Instead, I get the "No ... capture device connected ..." splashscreen.
    C. That seems to be the case, at least as far as I know how to determine it with System Profiler. I can never get any indication that the OS is seeing the camera there at all.
Any ideas on what has gone/is going on, and what I can do about it? I'm really just very surprised that it's not simply working as it should. TIA for any inputs or assistance.
(N.B. I still have the G3 and am considering powering it back up to see if the Canon still works there; I suspect it will, though)

  • Canon digital camera integration with Labview

    hi,
i need to integrate canon digital camera with labview.
i have applied for the SDK from canon , and waiting for the
reply from them. i have got a liitle control of the camera from the
dll from PS remote from http://www.breezesys.com/PSRemote/
but not able to grab the images to labview ,
if any one has worked on similar applications kindly help
    thanks and regards,
    sundar.

    hi there,
there's a function SetOutputPath(path) where you can specify the path where the driver of the camera saves the pictures. for more information see the SDK docs. after the pictures have been saved to disk you can read the files with the LV-VIs from the "Graphics & Sound" palette. there are some examples shipped with LV of how to read image files.

  • Does "RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded" MATTER??

Need to buy new camera to use with my G5 and iPHoto 5. I desire (1) affordability, (2) more optical zoom than what I've had in past (want to move from 4x to 6x), and (3) compatible with my G5.
I've had 2 canon powershost (my last, the 570, but a kid dropped it). Easy to use. So maybe simliar, or something nicer.
Been studying the Canon web site about their various cameras. For the above reasons I like thePowerShot SX100 IS, about $240. 6x optical zoom.
HOWEVER, in the MAC OSX compatibility section at Canon it has this quote:
    * Mac OS X 10.1 and newer come with Image Capture drivers that support most of Canon's digital cameras with USB interfaces. When a compatible camera is connected to a compatible Mac computer running OS X 10.1 and newer, the computer detects the camera and automatically launches Image Capture. This Apple program allows JPEG images in the camera to be downloaded to the Macintosh. NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader.
Additionally, Image Capture can access JPEG images directly from a CompactFlash card using an OS X-compatible card reader or using a PC Card Adapter in the PC Card slot of an Apple PowerBook.**
This line caught me confused: *RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded*
In the past, I just plugged in the Canon Camera, and iPhoto 5 opened, and I h appily downloaded the picts and off and away I was.
Will this still happen??? And if I'm not getting the "RAW" picts (whatever that is), but just the JPEGS I'm used to, am I not getting "all" the picts, or the best that my camera could be given me for eventually printing?
    Am I worrying about nothing?
Finally, any camera suggestions? Under $300 , super picts, 5-10x zoom, and friendly with my Mac
    Thanks
    JON

    Jon
You know, because you ask the question, I'll guess that it won't really matter to you...
Every camera shoots RAW - that's the total information that the sensor on the camera sees, but mid- and lower end cameras process this RAW data into an easy to use format such as jpegs.
Many (but not all) Pros demand that the camera provide all the data to the computer, so that the photographer can process the images him/her self. For most casual and family users this is not an issue. For the serious hobbyist and the Pro it might well be.
For more on Raw have a look at this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawimageformat
Btw, later versions of iPhoto do work with Some Raw formats.
    As to cameras:
I used a Canon S2 IS for a couple of years and found it really good. There's and S3 and an S5 now too. Currently I'm using a Panasonic FZ8. I really like it.

  • Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver for Windows 7

I have been trying to find a driver which will work with my new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation, but I haven't had any luck.
    My laptop specs are:
    Brand: HP Pavilion DV6208nr
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57 (1.9 GHz)
Graphics Card / Motherboard: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M
    RAM: 2.0 GB DDR
    The audio device:
    Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30CF&REV_1000
The original OS that came installed on the laptop was Vista Home Premium x64, and I later upgraded to the Ultimate x64 edition.  I managed to find drivers that work in Windows 7 for everything except for the audio device and the quick launch buttons. (the graphics display driver was the hardest to find until now).  I already tried the vista drivers as well as a driver update from microsoft updater, but they both failed.
Edit: I uninstalled and reinstalled the vista drivers and the device appears to be working now.  I'm not sure what went wrong the first time.  Maybe it was the update from Microsoft that crashed it.  There wasn't any problems in device manager with the audio until after the update.
However, if there are some drivers specifically designed to work with Windows 7 I'd still like to have them.  I guess I'll make a post for the quick launch buttons in the proper forum.
    Thanks.

  • High Definition Screensaver Art for AppleTV

I'm looking for high definition images/artwork ready formatted for AppleTV.
Essentially, I'm looking to use the AppleTV screensaver to transform my HDTV into a rotating gallery of great images - great background for my next party.
    No sound required.
There used to be a company that did exactly this for Windows PCs and certain TVs (www.galleryplayer.com) but they went out of business a few months ago.
    Anybody got any ideas?
