OT: Recommend a Text Editor?

I'm using a MacBook Pro and recently upgraded to Leopard,
MAMP Pro and
Adobe Creative Suite. Can anyone recommend a good text editor
to use
along with Dreamweaver? It sounds like TextMate has the
biggest fan
club, but Dreamweaver appears to have a tight relationship
with BBEdit.
I've also heard some good things about SkEdit.
I've downloaded trial versions of all three, but I'd like to
hear from
people who are already familiar with them. What are the pros
and cons of
each?

I remember reading that on some forum, with someone adding
that you can
also get a $100 discount on BBEdit if you own Dreamweaver.
TextMate
sounds amazing, but it also appears to be rather geeky, with
a steep
learning curve. So maybe BBEdit would indeed be best. Thanks.

My favourite Java publisher is O'Reilly. Particularly the nutshell series (most by or co-authored by David Flanagan). I couldn't live without the stack that sit, all opened to critical pages, on my desk.

I'm building a database of about 60,000 files in folder X.
I'm using php to organise all the files and clean them up (for exmaple removing "-" and ":") and then sticking them into a database.
my main text editor is vim,and then I usually use a gui based editor for fast navigation (lets see you go through 1,010,131 lines of output in vim).
The output is usually suppressed, but the amount of files in X, changes daily (one day can go without change, then next day a user can add 20 files and another user can remove a file), so whenever a new file comes in I want to see that my code can handle it properly, then be able to stick in thee db properly.
recently trying to open a 1million line file in Kate, or Kwrite seems to crash dolphin (KDE).
If I install gvim, I'll need to remove Vim, and I dont want to do that.
I'm looking for something small with scroll bars, that only needs to edit txt files.

If you know that it's some specific subdirectory that usually messes up, or you know the name of the file you want to find, you can do /FILENAME to search for it. If you know it usually is around line 600,000, then try out 600000G.

Where can I find a user-guide for the awfull Text-Editor used to enter/edit these forums entries?

I am desesperate to understand how quite basic functions (just as one of many examples: how can I paste text, that I have formatted in MS Word and want to paste into a Forum Post-Entry?) can be done with the primitive and awful Text Editor used to enter/edit Forum Entries. Notice, that like many other Adobe users, I am not familiar at all with HTML and it is therefore a description of the badly named "Full Editor" that I am looking for.
Where can I find a User-Guide for this Text Editor?
My recommendation to Adobe: exercise enough brute pressure on the developers of this primitive Text Editor to force them to provide something more reasonable, more powerful and more intuitive.

I was trying to understand how I could do things as simple as inserting text that I had previously copied. Since there are neither command menüs nor buttons for the Insert of previously copied text, I was trying a mouse right click.....and was being offered in the context menu the choice between "Insert Link", "Insert Image", "Alignement", and "Insert Table"....... but no possibility of a plain insert of previously copied text.
Now, I realize, that Clearstream supports at least the keyword shortcut of "Ctrl V" ........that I am not using in any other software (I never use any keyboard shortcuts).
Since Clearstream does not support reasonable choices in the contextual menus, I will need to memorize the most important keyword shortcuts.
By the way: I detected now, that the "Ctrl V" keyboard shortcut allows me to insert formatted text.
Even, if I will now begin to be able to use reasonably Clearstream, I am quite surprised to see that such a software provides neither reasonable Contextual Menus, nor a User Guide, nor........

Rich Text Editor functionality for a DIV tag in a publishing page in SharePoint online

We are having a requirement where we need RTE behavior of SharePoint 2013 Rich Html Field for a custom DIV. The scenario goes like this:
1. I have a publishing page
2. I dropped the content editor web part and to that content editor web part I will point to an HTML file that needs to be rendered in that content editor web part
3. I have one DIV in the above mentioned HTML files and I want that div to be editable and I need to RTE options for that DIV.
How to accomplish the above behavior?

According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to create html rich text editor for a DIV tag in a publishing page in SharePoint online.
You can create your own Rich Text Editor.

Which text editor?

Not wanting to start a flame war here, but does anyone have a recommendation for a text editor similar to TextMate on OS X? I'll be doing primarily Ruby on Rails programming..

Ok, multiple file suport in vim was it?
:split <filename>
:vsplit <filename>
:tabnew <filename>
ctrl+w+direction(hjkl) to switch betwen splited windows(in "normal" mode)
:tabn and :tabp to switch betwen tabs
you can also add this to your .vimrc file to map tabn and tabp to ctrl+n and ctrl+p:
nnoremap <silent> <C-n> :tabnext<CR>
nnoremap <silent> <C-p> :tabprevious<CR>
edit: Phraktures sugestion on using g-t and g-T for next/previos tab is better than
the solution I gave (since it dosen't nead fiddling in the conf file and is more convinient
in placement...

Insert Image/Table not working in SP 2007 Rich Text Editor, also in Wiki.

This is an odd one. It's in SP 2007.
When I try to insert a table or image when using the Rich Text editor, it doesn't work. Others with the same rights are able to and I have confirmed that I am following all appropriate steps (and variations thereof). The "Selected Image" field
will not populate when I select and image through the Browse button. When I cut and paste the address into the field, when I click OK, it dumps it.
With tables, if there is an existing table, I can insert another row/column, but I cannot insert a brand new table.
There is NO ERROR message, it just doesn't work.
Help.

I have started with writing c code on mac using xcode .....but one of my friend told me to use gcc for coding.
Why? If you are developing and writing code on a Mac why would you not use the tools Apple has given you? And Xcode, once you get use to it, is a very nice development environment that will make you life a whole lot easier.
If you insist on using an editor and the terminal I would recommend Emacs but it has a long learning curve so something like TextWrangler will work too.
As for the compiler if you have Xcode installed install the command line tools and you will be able to compile from the terminal.

After applying full scroll bar to the page including header and footer, I have provided content to
the page more than 100 lines and try to format the text from ribbon actions(format text area). On mouse over of font or fore color, the control jumps to the highlighted content area and not able to select the color. The page scrolls down and not able to click
on any action.
Consider this scenario also.
A content editor web part is added toward the bottom of the page.
Text is added to this (direct in the web part, not via a 'content link')
You highlight some text and go to the Markup Style dropdown...
Everything is fine until you hover over the "Paragraph" markup style, and suddenly the page scrolls to the web part you are editing, and you didn't have a chance
to click and apply the "Paragraph" formatting
I have tried testing this with text typed directly into the Content Editor, text pasted in from somewhere else, and text pasted in from somewhere else using "Paste as
Plaintext" option in the ribbon. In each scenario, I get the same results.
Furthermore, I have also tested this in both IE8 and IE9 and get the same results.
I can get it to occur most regularly with trying to apply the Paragraph "Markup Style" but
I've also seen this happen with Font Size (any font size). It's very frustrating since you aren't able to actually apply the formatting you need because the page jumps before you can click. Has anyone experienced this before. Any feedback would
help.

I try to apply full scroll bar to the page including header and footer, the ribbon is missing after I scroll down to the web part. And I cannot apply the "Paragraph" markup style to the content.
I recommend to use the SharePoint core styles to preserve the native functionality and GUI.
By design in SharePoint, the ribbon is always at the top. When you select the content, you can apply the "Paragraph" markup style in the ribbon.

Text Editor -options

Hi,
I have been using text editor control.
In this when we click load file button...an open prompt window appears..
there we will be finding Files of type... dropdown..containing values like text(.txt) file and All file types..
Is there any way to restrict this dropdown to single value..i mean to .txt file..should only be viewed omitting
All files option in dropdown..
i am using CL_GUI_TEXTEDIT..control...
Is there any option to do it...

I don't think there is any method for this. As the dialog box opened is depending on your OS.
But, you can cross check the uploaded file for " .txt " using CP (contains pattern) function of string.
DATA: xl type string.
xl = '*.txt'.
IF not P_FILE CP xl. "P_FILE is name of file you will get.
"Error"
ENDIF.

Options -> Text Editor -> C/C++ missing intellisense entry. Intellisense not working. Solutions to turn options for the editor off and on are not working. The intellisense entry is present for other languages,
such as C#, but not C/C++.
By not working, I mean the intellisense right click menu items are grayed out, and intellisense files are not produced.

Based on your issue, could you please share me a screen shot about the intellisense right click menu items are grayed out?
Generally, I know that it is default that we can enable the intellisense for C/C++ by going to the TOOLS->Options -> Text Editor -> C/C++ ->Advanced-> IntelliSense like the following screen shot.
So please try to check if you set Disable Intellisense property as False in the VS IDE.

will give you links to quite a few sites, where the source is available. It uses
a combination of DHTML and JavaScript.

Rich text editor (apex 4.0)

using blue gray theme and a page with a rich text editor. Expanding the rich text options displays the text body p below the text area that persists even if you close the rich text options. Anybody know how to get rid of that behavior?

I think your mixing 2 technologies.
At 1 side you have xml in combination with xsl (style sheets used in BI Publisher and FOP) to generate your pdf. And at the other side you have HTML...
XML and HTML are 2 entirely different technologies which you can not mix this simple. I investigated the same problem as you had, and in the end I ended up using jasperreports instead of FOP.
Maybe BI Publisher has some html regions which you could insert into your word document but I doubt it cause more people have asked the same question on this board...
So my advice: use jasperreports (also it is free for commercial usage)

Text editor in Score module agonizingly clunky! Fix?

When creating scores from midi regions, the text editor drives me nuts when adding lyrics: The word/character positioning is different between text edit/create mode and what appears on the screen after editing, and different again between that and what appears in print preview mode or actual print-out. This is absolutely crazy-making when trying to line words/syllables up with their corresponding notations!
Also the cut & paste functions don't work as in any other text editor I've seen.
Also-also I can't get it to accept a new default font and size.
Suggestions? Dr. Kevorkian's phone number?

it looks like you have some problem with RFC. It stopped on the following line:
* Communication error in RFC-Call
message x628(ke) with 'RFC_ERROR' subrc msg_text.
Ask your basis guy to check it. The job on application server tried to connect to the central instance and it failed. The job run on central instance does not need to make any RFC call. Hence there is no problem in this case.
