OT: Server Security Settings Levels

Can this effect the way a website functions?
Senario:
I have a site set up which uses Paypal IPN. The IPN file updates a database.
I have set the site up on 3 testing servers, 2 work, they update the database as expected. The 3rd doesn't. Unfortunately that 3rd server just happens to be the one the website needs to be housed on.
I mentioned the security settings as I had a lot of trouble getting into its control panel because it blocks my dynamic IP after a couple of attempts, great. Also it seems less responsive than the 2 servers which do function correctly. i.e., sometimes when testing the IPN file the results get pinged back to my email and at other times it does not. For instance I can call the IPN file 5 times and only get 3 responses, whereas I get the reciprical amount of responses from the other 2 servers.
At the moment all by tests lead me to think it's a server issue and not a coding issue.
Any thoughts about whether a server which has too higher security setting or is set up incorrectly can have this kind of effect?

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I'm not talking about a backup. I'm not using the TC for time machine. I'm just using it as a network storage device. I have a G-Raid drive attached to the TC for time machine backups.
The TC simply has my iPhoto library and iTunes library on it so they can be shared around the house. The advantage of using the TC is that I can access the drive over the internet, so I can connect to my iTunes library on my MBP at work.
Ideally, I would just like to just stop the kids from copying or listening to specific (explicit) records within my iTunes library. Perhaps I should use the shared libraries feature instead and put a password on it? Then I could remove their read-only access to the server.
I'm sorry if I should have put this onto the iTunes forum but when I asked the question I was thinking more about restricting their access to the files themselves.

  • Email server security settings for Thunderbird

Hi - my first message to the Forum so hope I am in the right section. I'm on Windows 8. My email is working fine via an email client (Thunderbird). However, the server security settings suggested by BT instructions for T/Bird seem very weak to me............. - Connection security - none - Authentication method - password, transmitted insecurely. Can anyone using Thunderbird please advise me what they should be please. Help would be appreciated - thank you. John

Am I OK shifting the incoming to IMAP from POP3 please ?
    John
Your choice, they are 2 completely different ways of operating e-mail. With IMAP, the mail is held on the server and can be accessed from multiple devices, POP3 downloads the mail to the client and is deleted from the server (unless specifically told to leave a copy on the server) BT don't advertise the fact but does in fact support secure POP3. the server mail.btinternet.com supports POP3 using SSL on port 995 and secure SMTP on port 465

  • GPO for Print Server Security settings?

    Hi forum,
I am setting up a specific OU for print servers and have a GPO assigned to this.
As we need to apply certain roles to some AD groups we have a need to reflect this to the Print Server Security settings so it gets reflected to the print queues.
Has anyone found a way to have a GPO to alter the Security settings under the Print Server porperties?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
Based on your description, did you mean that want to configure permission of a Print Server via group policy?
It seems that the target can’t be achieved via group policy. However, you may be able to add some security groups to print servers by using Windows PowerShell. For more details, please refer to following article and check if can help you.

  • Email Server/Security settings

    Hi,
since I want to change the IMAP server and the security settings of an existing mail account, I try to find out where I can do this.
Couldn't find it. Am I missing something?

could you be more specific so we can help you?
so do ou have your email set up as pop3 on your phone and want to switch to imap4?
or do you own a domain and/server and want to add imap to your services for those with email from you?
my guess is that it is the first.
what domain is your email with?   ie-yahoo.com,  gmail.com,  hotmail.com....etc.

  • Server security settings?

    Hi,
I use a 1TB TC as a media server. I have just found that one of my kids has been copying music from the TC onto his own iMac. I don't want to restrict his access to the entire music library but there are some records on there that I would not want him to have on his iPod!
Can anybody advise if it is possible to restrict access to certain files easily? if so, is it possible to do this from within iTunes or would I have to change the security for the individual files within finder/terminal?
    Thanks

  • Security settings change when rendered from third party Windows 2008 R2 server

We created a fillable PDF form in Adobe Acrobat and made it Reader extended. Opening the form on a local hard drive the security settings show that Signing: is Allowed. We can sign documents in the form with a signature pad.
After we upload it to a third party Windows server 2008 R2, and we later go to access the form, the server renders it back to us in Adobe Reader. We are unable to digitally sign documents in the form with a Topaz signature pad. We notice that although the form was originally created with the form being Reader extended the security settings change to Signing: Not Allowed.
How can we get the server to render the document back to us where we can digitally sign documents in the form?

The second file still shows the extended rights header is present (it's warning you about restrictions at the top of the dialog while also reporting the method is "no security") but the digital signature which grants those extended rights will be invalidated if *anything* in the file structure is changed. I suspect in this case that the server software is doing something to your file; it may be trivial such as adding an XMP tag, but it's enough to break the hash check.

  • IE 11 security settings / Server 2012 domain joined server

Can someone clarify how the Security settings are automatically managed on domain jointed computers in IE 11 / Server 2012 R2:
There seem to be different settings depending on the IE Enhanced Security Settings.
I particular if IE Enhanced Security Settings are on, Security is forced to High for Internet and admins cannot change it.
If IE Enhanced Security Settings is off for admins Security is forced to Medium High and admins cannot change it
If IE Enhanced Security Settings is off Security is Medium-High and admins can change it
    Is this by design?
Run As Administrator seems to have no effect.
This only happens on domain joined systems

    Hi CarolChi,
IE-ESC is a feature from Windows Server. Yes, just as what your think, this behavior is by design.

  • Mac OS X Server 10.8 and Wiki Code Snippet Security Settings

I want to disable the embed security settings in Server's Wiki Service because with the default settings you can't embed anything on to pages, which makes it a lot less useful.
I know to do this you change:
    /Library/Server/Wiki/Config/whitelist.plist
but I'm not sure how to change it to allow all types of embeds. I'm aware of the security risks but I trust my users on this Server to embed what they need to embed.
Message was edited by: takpschool - text truncated in title after ampersand

I found the Lion Server Advanced Admin Guide which mentioned changing the key  `FiltersEnabled` to `False` `/etc/collabd/collabd.plist`.
Once I figured that this plist has been moved to /Library/Server/Wiki/Config in Mountain Lion Server from /etc/collabd/ in Lion Server I changed the preference - and we can embed to our hearts' content.

  • Unable To Change Security/Privacy Level Settings

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 (ran the latest updates). When I launch iChat 4.0, I can't add buddies, I can't show status in the menu bar nor (and the most important), I can't set my Security Privacy level. My entire Security window has every selection grayed out. None of the Privacy Level radio buttons are selected which means I can't see any of my buddies online. My buddies are listed and it shows my account available but that's it. I've already deleted all the apple.ichat prefs, rebooted (and relaunched) and tried changing the settings both logged in and off. Help! I need a fix please. Thanks.
    Mike

    Hi,
    I have a theory.
    I have no hard evidence.
    But....
The firewall in 10.5 was reported as not working properly and if Set to Specific apps was in fact Allowing All
Now you are updated to 10.5.1
I have a suspicion that if left at the 10.5 setting the firewall is not properly updated.
Your symptoms suggest you are not logged into AIM fully/properly as the Security tab is only active when you are logged in.
    I would do the following.
Use the Logout of AIM item in the iChat Menu list.
Quit iChat as this tends to rebuild the iChat .plists on closing.
I would go to the Mac Firewall and set it to Allow All (if different)
I would then Set it to All Specific and restart iChat.
If this fails remove iChatAgent from the allow list and Quit iChat and restart it which should put iChatAgent back in the firewall list.
If this does not work I would delete all apps from the Mac Firewall - set it to Allow All and then back again and add iChat and allow it to add iChatAgent.
If this still fails I would then delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist that hold the AIM login as there is still the possibility it is corrupt but may need the firewall sorted first.
    Summary.
I am suggesting it is a set of circumstances that may need a specific approach to sort and are asking you to test this out.
In essence this is to reset the firewall and possibly delete the .plist involved.

  • Function of the default realm in security settings?

What is the function of the default realm in the security settings of the app server?
what is the effect of specifying "ldap" as the realm-name in the login-config in web.xml? When specifying ldap, but leaving the default realm on "file", ldap is not used. only when changing the default realm to ldap, ldap authentication is attempted.
Is there a way to debug the actual query that is being sent to the configured ldap server? when setting the log-level to finest, some information is provided, but not enough.
    TIA
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
Specifying the realm name in the web.xml won't help. The user will be authenticated with whatever the default realm set in the AppServer. So here the realm specified in web.xml doesn't have any use.
If you want to use LDAP for your user authentication change the DefaultRealm to LDAP instead of File. Also configure the LDAPRealm properties to point to the correct directory server and directory name.
Maximum information will be logged when the LOG Level is set to FINEST and Audit is enabled in the Secuirty node of the appServer adminGUI, that will contain the default realm set and any security related activities logged.
Do the following to enabled the Maximum logging.
Open up the AdminGUI and goto the security node under the server1 instance.Click on the General tab on the right frame and set the log level to FINEST and check the Audit checkbox . Save, apply the changes and restart the AppServer .During the startup the log will show what is the default realm set.
While the application is running all the security messages will be logged.

  • How do I deal with "StartUpItems if2k" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings?

Whenever I turn on or restart my MBP, a dialog box appears saying --> “/Library/StartupItems/if2k” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
    How can I fix this?
First, I searched online and found a site with a If2k_Remover_V2.zip file, but whenever I try to open the link, a page comes up saying,
    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /w/files/if2k/If2k_Remover_V2.zip on this server.
    Any thoughts on this?
Also, I see the if2k folder in the Library/StartUpItems; is it something I can just drag into the Trash?  Or would that be a bad move?

Did you ever figure this out? I just upgraded to Lion on my Air and I have the same issue.

  • How to Change Security Settings on an Existing Wireless Network

I'd like to change existing network security settings to WPA2, AES or at least to from TKIP to AES.
I'm familiar with browser access to the router and with how to change the settings on the router.
My question is how to do this as painlessly as possible for the network.  Step by step would be nice
I guess first I have to change the router settings using the computer running Easy Link Advisor?
Do I then have to disconnect/reconnect that computer?
Do I have to disconnect every other computer and then connect each one again with the updated settings?
Will the change in security settings affect my print server?  If so, do I have to set it up from scratch in ELA?
For the record, I have a WRT-300N and the print server is a 54g.
Anyone who reads this may also want to look into recent news.  May not be a big deal, but a vulnerability of WPA/TKIP has been identified.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

Do I really need to set security for my wireless connection. I searched for available WiFi in my area prior to installing my  network and none were available. Does that matter?
The network never did function right from the start. My desktop is a Dell Inspiron 510n and is not wireless capable? So when I tried to add my HP mni 1000 it did not let me access the Internet.
So now I have an unsecured network. Am I vulnerable to attack?
Which leads me to my real question How do I change the security settings?
Oh yeah, my home computer crashed due to a program I downloaded, so I do not have access to it. i'm a mess....
    Thanks,for any help
