OT - survey of entry level FCP editing jobs

I work with a school and we want to train students in video production and editing. I'm looking for the following info from anyone working in the industry who has worked with entry level FCP editors or is looking to hire people to do this:
1. Does FCP certification influence your hiring decisions for hiring entry level FCP editors?
2. Is there some sort of industry data out there that describes salaries that can be expected for entry level and for advanced editing positions?

No. Storytelling ability does. Editing ability and storytelling ability first...then the question of "do you know FCP?" or "Have you cut on an Avid?" come into play. Certification will help get assistant gigs...

No, because it varies from location to location. What I get in Los Angeles, will be different for what someone in Denver gets, for the same work. It is all cost of living based, project type based..commercial editors get more than doc editors, network reality editors get more than cable reality editors...corporate video different than event video. There is no standard. Just as their is no standard type of video to edit.
Know that expectations for getting EDITING work right out of school might be a bit high. Rarely does it happen. People out of school will have better luck finding Assistant Editing work, Post Production Assistant...ground floor jobs so they can learn the ins and outs of the requirements for their given area. Cutting for broadcast has requirements like act breaks and exact timings and bars and tone and slates... Film deals with key code, edge code...telecine and all sorts of other things. So starting at the bottom, they gradually learn all of the things that are required before they actually get hired to edit.

Fithly is it harder to make it browser based?Nope. But forget about the browser. Just make a game and use Java Web Start if you want to make it available via browser.
Lastly could you give me a example of scripting like if you want to make a small brown and green tree what would you write?This is way too general. But you can check out lots of Java 2D/3D graphics turorials online. I say just focus on learning Java, then math, physics, etc., then Java2D, then Java3D, then JOAL or some sound API, learn how to get user input from keyboard/mouse, network programming, database programming, etc. Take it step by step.

Depends on the company I guess. Whether they want someone
with experience or not. A basic to intermediate knowledge of Flex
Builder is required as well as intermediate to advanced knowledge
of actionscript 3.0 .
AS3 is OO so a basic knowledge of OO-programming is
preferable.

As a fresher there are lot of options to start the career in SAP domain . As a fresher doing a certification *** training with out any prior experience , the opportunities for getting a job will be very less. SAP is a Enterprise business software which has the Technical ( ABAP,BASIS .......) Functional (SD,PP,MM,FI,...) Techno Functional modules . Choose a very option to get started . Hi
First, make certain that your students do not wish to study something simpler, like 'string theory' or 'dark matter', then if anyone is still left in the class, give them the bad news.
You can be the the best there is at web design/development, and earn virtually nothing, conversely you can be absolute rubbish and be paid the same as an investment banker. However the majority of people in the profession work on some sort of self employed or freelance basis, so the actual hourly pay is not what counts but how many clients/contracts they have.
If you earn £1000 for something that takes you 10hrs then the hourly pay = £100, but what happens if you only have that one client in a year?
So just learning web design/development, (and don't tell them that they do not need to learn both, they do) is only half of the entire picture, if they are good at selling their skills then they may earn a reasonable living, if not ...!

Would the entry level macbook pro 13" MD101 be good enough for working in After Effects

Hi guys,
Im looking to purchase the entry level Macbook pro MD 101 for personal uses. I do quite a bit of video rendering and animation - basic stuff in after effects and sometimes Final Cut Pro.
So I was wondering, with the specs the current 13" pro has (2.5GHz i5) would that be enough for me to run after effects and get the job done without me having to throw my macbook on the ground from frustration?
I am currently using the OLD 15" Macbook Pro - late 2008 model (Silver design 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB DDR2 SDRAM) and its working alright for both FCP and AE.
Would this 13" Pro give slightly better performance? Or round about the same?

DVD Footage for FCP Edit - how to tell if NTSC or PAL?!

Hi all, apologies if this seems like a stupid request but I have a job at the moment calling for me to extract footage from a DVD, edit in FCP, add a few bits from Motion etc., but I can't work out if the DVD is NTSC or PAL!
I intend to extract the video (no issues with copyright) via DVDxDVPro but am unsure if the DVD has been encoded in NTSC or PAL. The footage it contains is from both the States (NTSC) and South Africa (PAL) so how do I tell? I don't want to go through a standards conversion if I can help it.
I am keen to try to retain as much quality as possible (client can't provide tape) so also any thougts on the best output from DVDxDVPRo for FCP editing?

Thanks for this - it clearly shows the TV standard and the resolution plus 4:3 etc., so everything I needed for confirmation.
Glad I cheked because it was in Pal - thought the conversion in DVDxDVPro looked a bit ropey.
This realy baffled me - seemed so simple but couldn't find a way to tell the standard. Learn something everyday...
I am using DVCPro for export from DVDxDVPro - anyone thoughts on a better option?

Field due date coming compulsory at entry level

Hi,
I have created the employee as vendor. When I am using a special gl indicator z with posting key 39 the field u201Cdue dateu201D becomes compulsory entry. When I am using the other key the same field is not compulsory. The settings for the above is as follows-
1. Special indicator reconciliation account- The filed status for this account in FS00 is having the u201Cdue dateu201D is optional entry.
2. Posting Key Field Status u2013 Here the field u201Cdue dateu201D is optional entry.
Thus in both the settings, account field status and the posting key field status , the due date is optional but it is coming compulsory at entry level. How can I make this field optional at entry level.
Please help to resolve the issue.

I am on my 2nd new (late 2013) Mac Pro. The first one had problems in booting up reliably when 2 monitors were used. I took it to AppleStore and a specialist verified that as well. He reocmmended that I send it back. So I did.
Today is the 8th day of my 2nd Mac Pro. It had problems connecting to wireless keyboard when I first got it. The wireless mouse connected okay and it was just the wireless keyboard that had problems. I contacted AppleCare and spent hours with them and finally got it to work. Since then, there was one time that the wireless connection was dropped for a short time and came back. Other than that, it has been good for the last 7 days.
These two Mac Pro machines are the base model, quad-core and 12GB of RAM.
My experience with Apple products is that they usually have problems when I first get them. Then it takes some work to make them reliable. In addition to these two Mac Pros, I had 4 new Mac laptops in the last 12 months (1 MBP and 3 MBAs). They all had problems when I got them. I had to return 2 of these laptops as well.
I am sure that my experience is not the norm. Apple products are supposed to work and work reliably. But all the 6 Apple computers I got in the last 12 months had problems. I am a software engineer with 20 years of industry experience in networking/software areas. I cannot explain my experience at all.

Get the position of the employees for whom you are getting the error message and maintain infotype "Canada Groups for WCB" for those positions. This should solve your issue.

Question about an entry level java programmer

i was curious that if i do find a job in java as an entry level what kind of programming can i expect? i am sure some of the members over here were hired as an entry level. can you share your ideas with me? like any projects etc...

What is your background in education? I don't know how much you know of Java, but that won't be the only thing they base their choice on. You barely ever have a project that uses exclusively java. Make sure you know basics of working with databases, different operating systems...
The most important thing is that you can sell whatever you know as usefull for the job they have for you! Prepare yourself well for an interview. If you have the time, picture the type of work you expect from a vacancy. Ask yourself what technologies will be needed for that particular job and make sure you do at least know a little about them. Make sure you adapt your responses to the type of interviewer, type of company. In addition to that, don't tell people you know more than you do!
Get some understanding on OO concepts.This would be a very important thing for some, but totally unnecessary to others. For me this is quite important! If your interviewer is a manager type, he won't be able to follow what you're talking about if you start talking about design principles! If your interviewer is a techie, then this is a good thing to show.
JCP certification would be handy..From my experience this isn't a minimum requirement to get in. If the company values certificates, you can always use it afterwards to prove your dedication and get a raise once you're in. ;-)
Further knowledge in Web components and Enterprice components (eg EJB) will be pluses.Again viewed from the 'make it sellable' side. If you come bragging that you're a Spring expert and your company is against open source frameworks, that won't be a point in your advantage.

Just some encouragement... You will do fine if you keep looking and networking. There are companies out there that will bring on a junior level person to work hand in hand with a senior person. You may not want to find a consulting job, but there are other companies will be willing to do. You would have to start somewhere, and everyone else here did too.
If nothing else, come to America and find jobs here...

If you are going to use Mac OS X and its associated applications, and a BootCamp partition with Windows 8, and MS Office and all of the work created there, you will more than likely run out of space on a 128 GB SSD pretty quickly...especially if you put any music, photos or videos on it. Those things take a lot of space so you will have to be very, very careful about what you want to put on a 128 GB storage space. You would be better off going for 512 GB with what you plan on doing with it.

How to send FCP edited audio clips for processing in Soundtrack?

How do I send just the edited audio clips from hour long files to be processed in Soundtrack from Final Cut?
I need help as I'm trying to adjust some edited audio clips in Soundtrack Pro but when I send them from FCP to Soundtrack - it opens the whole original audio file and then any adjustments I apply in Soundtrack are being processed over the whole audio file not just the short edited audio clip that I want to adjust.
Normally I don't mind as my scenes are usually short and Soundtrack analysis over the whole scenes audio is usually desirable, but this projects files have been transfered from tapes as hour long AVI files (all the tapes clips transfered into one hour long files) and every FCP edited audio clip I send is being treated as an hour long audio file in Soundtrack.
I'm sure there's a simple answer for settings but I haven't been able to find it. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks Javi, my sequence is an hour and half duration so what I'm trying to do is save processing time in Soundtrack by just processing adjustments on the few audio clips that need processing.
I have set Soundtrack to open referenced audio only and with 5 sec in and out handles, but it still imports the whole original audio file into Soundtrack timeline upto the selected clip, I then double click in Soundtrack on the clip in brackets, and it then selects just the audio clip I want to adjust, then Soundtrack will just process on the edited clip but when I 'render to action' it seems to apply changes to whole original audio file - taking longer than I want.... frustrating
Also the sound always sounds very different in FCP than Soundtrack even after 'rendering to action' and rendering in FCP... this is not the easy workflow I expect from such expensive software programs, I understood that they work together in a fully integrated way, what's the problem! This is wasting my precious time and preventing me from editing not helping me, this is a common problem and yet I can find no help in the user manual - I'm not impressed!
