OT: Test of site

Well, this is kin of off topic, and not directly related to muse, but I still thought I would share this here, in case anybody else could benifit from it.
I was searching for an easy way to test my sites in differen resolutions, and found this site for free:
http://quirktools.com/screenfly/
I have no whatso ever connections to the site, or people who run it, just found it usefull
Ulf

I was involved in a thread in which it was implied the OP did not get a follow up to their own threadLame excuse for not following one's own questions.
Myself I have a different excus... err, sorry, reason : I receive update e-mails with too many topics links, and I often overlook reading them all throughout...
Lately I also had one of my 1-year-old question updated, and I missed it, damn! Upon inspection of my recent OTN e-mails, it looks like I was NOT notified of this update (admitteldy, that topic predates the JDC->OTN forums migration).

  • Remote and Testing Server Site Definitions

I am confused about what information I should put in my
remote site definition info and testing server FTC Host directory
text boxes. My host placed 3 directories: database, log, and www on
my server and Dreamweaver placed two directories, Connections and
_mmServerScripts in the same directory as the above 3. I have
placed all of my site files, including my home page and folders in
the www directory and my Access database in the database directory.
Dreamweaver placed the connection info in the Connections folder an
d _mmServerScripts in the same directory.
In order to construct my local site to match the remote site,
I created a www folder on my local site and placed all of my HTML
files and supporting folders in it.
From various Adobe Tech Notes I have read, I was led to
    believe my FTP host directory
Should be www/. However, when I do this and create a new web
page on my local site and upload it to my remote site, Dreamweaver
creates a new www directory inside of the one my host created on
the remote site and uploads the file to it instead of placing it in
the www directory my host created. Also, when I use F12 to test my
page in my browser I get a 404 page not found because Dreamweaver
placed a www in the page URL that shouldn’t be there and
after I remove it I’m able to see my page in my browser. My
URL prefix on my testing server site definition is:
    http://I.P.number.html.
What am I not doing right?
Should I use www/ as my FTP host directory or leave it blank?
Also, what should my URL prefix be?
    Thanks for your help.

What you need to do is set up so that in the remote server
    you point to the
www level on the server, and don't replicate this locally.

  • Testing Dreamweaver site in Inspect CC

I am currently busy building site in dreamweaver using fluid grid layout. When I am testing the site I am going to > Preview in browser > google chrome and can see my site perfectly. In chrome, when I click on Inspect and select my iPhone the site on my iPhone is blank (plain white). I have Inspect CC on my desktop and iPhone. Any suggestions?

    Hi SBhogal,
Are you using a local server while working with Dreamweaver (something like MAMP)? If not then Inspect won't be able to see your project. The devices using Inspect have to have access to the file you're trying to preview and if that file is just on your filesystem (eg, shows something like file:\\\ in the URL bar in Chrome) or if it's using localhost (http://localhost or maybe http://127.0.01 in the URL bar) the devices can't see it.
You could try setting up a MAMP server or we also have Edge Inspect support with Edge Code so you can preview your project on mobile devices.
    Hope that helps,

  • Can BrowserLab test intranet sites ?

    Hello
I want to use BrowserLab to test intranet sites, but I have no permission to access htdocs directly.
So I always download all html/image/css/js files to my local apache htdocs, then use  BrowserLab to test them.
Is there any smart ways to test intranet sites ?
    Chen

    Hi Chen,
We've heard this type of request before (due to intellectual property or data privacy concerns, not speed), but I'm sorry to say that this is something we can't do right now due to licensing issues. On our servers we run licensed copies of the various OS's, browsers, and other types of software configured in very specific ways so that we can request and deliver the screenshots. Due to licensing concerns we are not allowed to redistribute all that software, and to come up with a set of instructions that would allow our users to set up their own copies of our server architecture would be an incredibly daunting task.
We have talked about ways we can make this happen in the future, but it is not going to be a capability we'll be able to add any time in the forseeable future for now.
    Sorry I can't help,

  • Testing iWeb Sites?

Is there a way of loading an iWeb site in a browser before publishing? I would of course like to test any site in various browsers so I can be sure everything appears as I like it to be and make edits as necessary. Especially in Internet Explorer. After all if a site doesn't look good in the most popular web browser it is not terribly useful.

Since there isn't an up-to-date version of Internet Explorer for Mac, you could use this free service (although it's only post-publishing):
    http://browsershots.org
Or, if you password protect your site, others won't see your work-in-progress and you could publish and run Windows & Internet Explorer via BootCamp on your Mac. Or buy Parallels:
    http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/
    or Fusion:
    http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
Alternatively in iWeb, to create a preview version of your site to test on, say, Firefox for Mac:
Choose File > “Publish to a Folder.”
Choose a location to store the site (somewhere on your computer or an external hard disk), and click Choose.
When you see the confirmation message, click Visit Site Now.
Your site opens in your default web browser (Firefox, for example), but it isn’t published on the Internet until you publish it to .Mac or upload it to your hosting service.
NOTE: Some features won’t work until the site is published to the Internet.

  • Testing remote sites

Is this possible yet? If so, how do I go about doing this? I would like to test to see how a live site performs across many devices.

    Hi,
Currently this isn't possible with Device Cental, which is designed to support development locally.  But thank you for the suggestion and we will certainly consider it.

  • Please BETA test my site.

Hi, will you please visit my site at www.redzero.co.za and
beta test the following things: Is there a preloader before the
initial movie (is it in lucida console). When you click start, does
it play the intro in the same tab/window? Does the intro have a
preloader (same as first). When you click enter in intro, does it
open in main tab/window? Does the menu have a preloader? Does the
menu navigation work? Can you navigate easily?
Basic checklist: Does each new movie have a preloader?
Does each new movie load in the same tab/window
    Help appreciated, thanks!

  • Any test web sites to insure browser/Flash player/other is adequate for all Captivate content

My prior subject header was a little confusing, so I hope it's okay I start over again and state more clearly what I need.
I have hundreds of users accessing Adobe Captivate 5.5 training.  Many users have no trouble viewing the content.  SOME users have trouble, specifically when viewing a video inserted into the training.  It just won't play for them.  These users have different browsers, so it would seem the type of browser is not an issue.
What I am hoping for is ...
a web site that lets users know they have everything needed to run any content within a Captivate session.  For example, as you know, Adobe has a web site to inform the user what version of Flash Player they have (if any).  I would be great to have a site that would let the user know if they meet the minimum requirements (not just Flash Player) to participate successfully in a training.
Is anyone aware of such a site?  Or have ideas on how to build one?
Thank you, and I'm sorry for not being clearer on the prior post.
    Best regards,
    Mark

Captivate outputs (generally) as Flash. So as long as users have a recent version of the Flash player, they should technically be able to play back the content.
However, of course, online delivery depends on the user's internet connection. What if you're feeding them video and their connection is slow?
For similar concerns, we point our users to speedtest.net and ask them to post their results. Sometimes that helps illustrate their slow connection means a slow video delivery.
And, of course, the older the computer, the less-fast it'll be in rendering the course. My oldest computer, used occasionally and with frustration by my 5 y/old, plays Flash sites horribly - and it's a 1.6ghz computer with 512mb RAM and XP...with latest browsers and Flash player. You can always ask for their computer spec, but that's not an easy thing to determine via software/website.
So you can create a simple 'minimum requirements' page that you can point to...but one that actually does a diagnostic...well, aside from simple Flash player/version detection (which is fairly simple), that's a complex task.

  • Help me out by testing a site

My parents recently bought new iMacs in December. They are thrilled; however, my father is having trouble occasionally with Safari. It seems that a particular website will not load. He types in the address, and Safari just sits there - nothing happens. It's not like the program freezes, it's just that the website will not open.
There are a number of factors that make this problem a bit odd:
    1) He has a Dell computer at his house running on the exact same network, connected to the Airport Extreme Base Station that the macs are using. The page loads on his Dell machine.
    2) He also has Parallels installed on his Mac. If he opens Windows XP through Parallels, the page willi oad.
    3) I have an older mac (iMac G4) but I am using the latest version of Safari with Leopard 10.5.2. The page loads on my machine running Safari at my house.
He has emptied the cache in Safari to no avail.
Could someone with a recent iMac try to open the site so that I know it's not isolated to just his machine?
    The site is www.wvmetronews.com
    Thanks!

GREAT IDEA. I'll walk through this with my Dad this afternoon and we'll see if that isolates the issue.
I appreciate everyone giving this a shot.
We actually found another website yesterday (rival.com) that also doesn't load. I'm still trying to figure out how my Dad is finding these random websites, but that is a different discussion altogether.

  • Test Web Site

I just built this web site, and its ready for critics...
Please look at it and let me know if there any any issues
with it... design, look, type, text, something not understood,
something you wish was on there, something I should take out, if
    anything doesn't work properly...
    Thanks...
    Here is the web site:
    www.nenmultimedia.com

I also don't know why you have a splash page. It's just one
    more click
people have to go through and, from a user's POV, doesn't
    tell them
anything. Your Opening Page immediately tells them what you
    do. Why not just
start there? (Other than the attempt at the bottom to "fool"
    the search
    engines)
