OT - Uk Domain name registrar and hosting

Sorry for the OT -
Can anyone reccomend a quality Domain Name Registrar that
offers full
copntrol over the Domain and also offer a small amount of
free hosting?
I don't want the hosting to be a 'wizard' system whereby you
simply ad a
logo and a bit of text. i need FTP access to it to allow my
own simple
websites.
Hope someone can advise.....
Thanks in advance.
Andy

Hi Andy,
try www.123-reg.co.uk - all that and more!

  • How to find domain name for the host

I have found the hostname but I am not able to find the domain name , how can I do that?? From the forums I was able to understand why the BSP Application was not displaying but unable to execute the same as I was unaware of the domain name.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Narayani

    Hi Narayani,
What about doing something like this?
data: urls type tihttpurls2,wa type IHTTPURLS2, host type string.
    call method cl_http_server=>get_extension_info
    EXPORTING
    extension_class = 'cl_http_ext_bsp'
    IMPORTING
    urls = urls.
    concatenate sy-sysid '.' into host.
    translate host to lower case.
    loop at urls into wa.
replace host in wa-host with ''.
    endloop.
The idea is that you get all the possible URLs and then delete the host part of it. Then you get the domain.

  • Domain name within iweb & hosting

*I recently purchased a domain name for a site that I will be working on.*
*There are two things that I would like to do:*
*1. Host the web site on my mac which is running OS X 10.5.6*
*2. Use iWeb '09 to develop the site*
*I would like to know how to go about hosting the site off my mac without having to run OS X 10.5 server.*
    and
*How to set my registered domain (.com) address within iweb so when I publish the site it will only contain the domain name of the site in the URL field.*
    Many thanks

  • IWeb - pointing domain name to MobileMe host

Hi - I have been working to direct a domain name purchased through godaddy (mygodaddydomainname.com) to my mobileme website (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname), where I'm publishing a page using iweb.
The goal is for someone to look under the (mygodaddydomainname.com) name and see the site built with iWeb and hosted at (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname).
You would think it was simple but I am having difficulties.
I followed the cname instructions in support at Apple & at GoDaddy but it isn't working. Does anyone have any good ideas?
    Gratefully,
    Lillian

This Apple document tells how to configure your MMe account for CNAME forwarding: Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name. Then follow GoDaddy's instructions for their end.
If you don't want to use CNAME forwarding but just the standard forwarding you don't need to do anything on MobileMe's end. At GoDaddy it will look this this:
You can either choose with masking or not. Masking will only display mygodaddydomainname.com in the URL window of each page. The downside to that is that visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site. That may or may not be a problem with your site. My tutorial site is set up that way: http://toadstutorials.info.

  • ISE Domain Name, Certificates and Guest Portal

    Hi everyone,
We have an ISE deployment using our internal domain for its FQDN (For example: ise01.private.local). We now want to use it for authenticating guest access and have noticed the redirection URL by default uses the FQDN of the ISE server.
This works fine for our corporate machines as we have our own internal CA and generated certificates. As we do not want certificate errors occurring for our guests, we need to use a public FQDN.
Are we best off changing the domain-name used by the ISE servers or is there a way to edit the redirection URL to use a custom domain?
I have heard suggestions that changing the domain-name is unsupported, but I can't find any other way.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,
Do you already have a public FQDN pointing to your ISE?  If so, let's assume that you are authenticating guests using CWA.  First creat a new Authorization Profile, under Common Tasks, select Web Redirection (CWA, DRW, MDM, NSP, CPP), Choose the Authentication Method (in this case, CWA) and define the ACL to be used.  Just below that, select Static IP/Host Name and enter the public FQDN that points to your ISE.
From here you can create an Authorization Policy to reference the profile you just created.

  • Domain name registrar

I am about to register a Domain name, it is available.
However, looking at all of the companies that do this is a little
intimidating. So I am asking anyone who has any experience with
    this for some advice.
What I want is just the Domain name not any other services,
what criteria should I apply in choosing.
    Thanks
    Tristan

yeah? well, maybe they've changed. i transfered a whole bunch
    of domains
not too long ago and had no problems. as far as pricing, that
    may be
true. i can't say i paid much attention to that. i was more
    concerned
about how big of a PITA (never seen that before, but i like
    it!) it
would have been to transfer 5 domains to them vs.
    transferring the 15 or
so already registered with them to somewhere else.
however, for my own purposes i'll probably avoid them in the
    future. i
    trust the advice here!

  • Forwarding domain name w/ Mecca Hosting

Has anyone used Mecca Hosting? I have my domain name with them, but I can't figure out how to forward my .Mac site to my domain name (or the other way around, I'm not sure). I'm very new to this, so any help is appreciated!

I e-mailed them my URL and asked them how they can forward it to my domain name, and here's what they said:
"This is something that is typically done as a temporary measure. A forward would mean that your site would have to rely on 2 hosting services in order to function correctly. In addition, the search engines do not follow these forwards and would not find your website. We can setup a forward for you, but it is not recommended if you wish to use your own domain. "
    And then again, this:
"We're not saying that we cannot do it; what we're saying that what you wish to do is not advisable. Your visitors would first be directed to your web server with us and would request to download a web page; our server would them provide them with a web page that tells them to go to another site; the visitor's web browser would then connect to your website on your .Mac account.
As you can imagine, not only is this very slow, but it is also not as reliable. If one of the 2 providers has a problem, your site will not be displayed; so, you're always dependent on both providers to have a functional website.
Finally, the search engines ignore these types of forwards, so the website would never be found by search engines.
In any case, if you really wish to do this, we can go ahead and do it for you. You would not need the web hosting services that you have purchased, as they would not be used to do a URL forward. "
Any thoughts, those of you who understand all this? Thanks in advance for your time.

  • Mail Setup - Domain Name vs. Host Name

I tried to search for this one, but the terms are so common that it made things a little difficult. Anyways, it's a simple question (I think):
My mail service is working fine, however I just noticed that in server admin (under Mail), the domain name is set as mail.mydomain.com and the host name is set to mydomain.com. That's counter to my understanding of what should be in those fields (it should be the reverse, if my understanding of the relevant terms is correct). However, when I tried to switch them I get the following error, albeit only when I try to send mail from one domain hosted on this machine to another domain hosted on the same machine:
mail for mydomain.com loops back to myself.
    Any ideas?

You are correct, it should be the other way around.
That said, there is a bug in Server Admin. It will sometimes not correctly references the domain name portion in the mydestination parameter in /etc/postfix/main.cf.
So while it would be a good idea to swap things, you will need to also add the domain name as a local host alias in Server Admin to get mail going again.

The man who tells you what you can post online, who tells you what e-mail address to use, who tells what e-mail system you can use, who locks you into a proprietary system and then cancels it when it becomes too much trouble, leaving you you change your entire online identify. If you have your own domain name, you don't have to worry about any of that.

  • Change domain name clients and server

    Hello,
I want to change the domain name from eg ".vancouver.gov" to ".vancouver.local" on all of our devices in the network. Zcm has been installed with ".vancouver.gov" and the clients also are registered with ".vancouver.gov". When i change the domain name on the workstations and change the corresponding dns entries of the workstations to ".vancouver.gov" i cannot register workstations anymore and wol does not work anymore. Distributing applications to the workstation does work.
Anybody now how to accomplish this change.
We have about 400 workstations and 1 zcm 10.3.3 server.
    Thanks.
    Ren

    I would recommend an SR.
Changing the DNS of Devices should not impact any of that, so long as
the clients can still properly resolve the servers and you are not
    destroying the old DNS zone.
This may indicate that the CA/Server CERTs do not have the fullied
qualified DNS name of the server but perhaps just the short name.
Also, I would not recommend attempting to fix any certs right away, but
rather using the "Additional DNS Name" setting on your server, since
changing a Cert could cause lots for work on client PCs.
Later versions of ZCM make changing server certs a little easier but for
10.3.3, I would just use the server setting instead of a change.
But since I suspect you can create an SR as most government accounts
can, it may be simplest to go that route but keep my thoughts avoiding
any cert rebuilds in mind if there is any issue with the names in the
    server cert.

  • Domain Name Forward and CNAME difference?

I changed my Domain Name Forward for my Yahoo! domain to web.mac.com/toff and it now forwards. What does changing the CNAME in addition to that do?

You do one or the other, not both.
The difference is what appears in the browser address bar. CNAME gives you www.mysite.com/sitename/pagename.html. Domain forward gives you web.mac.com/username/sitename/pagename.html or, with masking, www.mysite.com (for every page).

  • Whitelist for domain names (send and receive)

We have this constant issue where our mail server gets loaded up with emails to and from domains that our in no way connected with ours.
Our external firewall prevents these from going out, but they still remain in the Mail Queue. Is there any way to make a white list so that our domain names need to be included in either the sender OR the receiver and then just delete any other SMTP attempts?
    Thanks!
Bonus Question. Is there a program I can install on the server that can tell me what IP addresses are sending those emails?

You're potentially running an open relay, and (if that's the case) you'll want to address that.
The open relay can arise via misconfigured mail server, or via a web vulnerability in some web services thing (content management system, etc) you're running.
It's also possible that the server is correctly configured, and that there's an infected client box operating behind your mail server within your domain, or that's external but authorized to use your mail server.
And the unauthorized variation: being a breached password.
You'll want to secure the mail server first and foremost; filtering the outbound domain in the messages won't be particularly reliable, as these folks will just send from your domain and leave you to a: get your mail server blacklisted and b: deal with the backscatter.

When I try to publish my additions in Muse, an error message tells me that it can't validate my domain, FTP and server folder. Has anyone had this problem?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Question about domain name and .mac

my wife and i are going to move to London and we want a website to update people. now it would be a lot easier to say, "oh, just go to www.domainx.com". (with domainx being whatever domain we buy) rather than saying, "oh go to mac.homepage.iweb.ilife.joseph.page1.com" or whatever massive name they choose. now i would like to publish to .mac because of what they allow you to do. is there anyway i could buy domainx.com and when they go to domainx.com it will send them to my .mac published site. i hope you understand the question. i don't want to be limited by domainx.com but i want the luxury of that short domain name. any help would be amazing. thanks so much!

  • Changing domain name to host second website?

In the past I have successfully published 2 websites to iWeb, but this time around I can't manage to do so and it keeps rerouting to my older site. Any hints?

If you have your first domain name set up as a CNAME forward, then your second one needs to use either masked or unmasked web forwarding. Just go to web forwarding at your domain name registrar and simply forward your domain name to the second site as web.me.com/username/sitename.
You can only use CNAME once for every MobileMe account. Any other domain names need to be done via web forwarding.
