  • Website not displaying correctly. Firefox is changing the character set to Western (ISO-8859-1) automatically.

    Normally I have set Firefox (or it's set by default) to Character Set Unicode (UTF-8) and everything displays perfectly. I've never had a problem before.
    Now however, whenever I upload my own website, for some bizarre reason on that particular tab (and only that tab) the Character Set is changed over to Western (ISO-8859-1) and then there's a few characters within my site that do not display correctly, namely apostrophes and hypens.
    It definitely isn't my software (Serif WebPlus X4) because the page displays correctly in every other browser. Plus it displays correctly in Firefox if I change the Character set back to Unicode.
    PS The site is a work in progress

    That happens because the server sends a content-type (<b>text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1</b>) via the HTTP response headers and in that case that content type prevails. The page code is saved with an UTF-8 byte order mark () that you see in this case.

  • Flashfilm =?ISO-8859-15?Q?zerschie=DFt_Tabelle?=

    Hallo NG,
    gesagt...
    MfG

    Dann funktionierts!

  • How to set the Xml Encoding ISO-8859-1 to Transformer or DOMSource

    I have a xml string and it already contains an xml declaration with encoding="ISO-8859-1". (In my real product, since some of the element/attribute value contains a Spanish character, I need to use this encoding instead of UTF-8.) Also, in my program, I need to add more attributes or manipulate the xml string dynamically, so I create a DOM Document object for that. And, then, I use Transformer to convert this Document to a stream.
    My problme is: Firstly, once converted through the Transformer, the xml encoding changed to default UTF-8, Secondly, I wanted to check whether the DOM Document created with the xml string maintains the Xml Encoding of ISO-8859-1 or not. So, I called Document.getXmlEncoding(), but it is throwing a runtime error - unknown method.
    Is there any way I can maintain the original Xml Encoding of ISO-8859-1 when I use either the DOMSource or Transformer? I am using JDK1.5.0-12.
    Following is my sample program you can use.
    I would appreciate any help, because so far, I cannot find any answer to this using the JDK documentation at all.
    Thanks,

    Thanks DrClap for your answer. With your information, I rewrote the sample program as in the following, and it works well now as I intended! About the UTF-8 and Spanish charaters, I think you are right. It looks like there can be many factors involved on this subject though - for example, the real character sets used to create an xml document, and the xml encoding information declared will matter. The special character I had a trouble was u00F3, and somehow, I found out that Sax Parser or even Document Builder parser does not like this character when encoding is set to "UTF-8" in the Xml document. My sample program below may not be a perfect example, but if you replaces ISO-8859-1 with UTF-8, and not setting the encoding property to the transfermer, you may notice that the special character in my example is broken in Test1 and Test2. In my sample, I decided to use ByteArrayInputStream instead of StringBufferInpuptStream because the documentation says StringBufferInputStream may have a problem with converting characters into bytes.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Mail receiving attachments in ISO-8859-1 format

    I have this weird issue on my brand new Macbook Air. I have google apps and some of the emails attachments I receive seems to be in a ISO-8859-1 format and the extension is changed on mail.
    In gmail webmail, the attachments is in the correct format.
    Example : Éte_2010.docx become ISO-8891-1?Q?te...docx?=
    See the dropbox link for more examples :
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/cjnr3gbm4cr06u1/encoding.png
    It seems to do this only on attachment with special characters and from certains users (not all my incoming emails do this). The first attachment is always in the good format, if there is more than one attachments, the others seems to change format.
    I switched from a 2010 MacBook Pro and mail wasn't doing this.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jean-Philippe,
    Yes, please check my first post, if you use same settings, and create message as mine, it should work, the TestFile is created as an attachment.
    Include this line in the module configuration with transform key:
    Transform.ContentType: multipart/mixed; boundary=--AaZz;
    If you still have issues, please give me a description of the error.
    Regards,
    Ivan.

  • Decode UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1

    I am using the Google Maps API, it return in utf-8,
    so for some countries, caracters are wrong,
    My server is ISO-8859-1
    So, how to convert the result from utf-8 to iso-8859-1 ?
    I tried :
    <cfprocessingdirective pageEncoding="UTF-8">
    <cfcontent type="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    <cfset setEncoding("URL", "UTF-8")>
    <cfset setEncoding("FORM", "UTF-8")>
    and
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    No change. always the wrong caracters,
    Thanks for any help with this mess.
    Pierre.

    I am using CF v7.
    My server and CF are ISO-8859-1.
    But I am using Google Maps API , which returns country names in UTF-8.
    I tried the Google Maps directives, with adding parameter eo=ISO-8859-1 in the Google Key <script>,
    same result.
    Then  I have to convert to ISO-8859-1 , at least in that page for country names.
    (I have a specific problem with Thailande, Google Maps returns :  Tha๏lande
    and in the data base it writes : tha&#3663 ;lande   (an Access database)
    I answer to injun [576871]  ,
    Diificult to insert that code, because I am in a JavaScript code already.
    So it will not accept <cfscript> again inside ? I will try.
    Thanks for any help.
    Pierre.

  • IE 9 incorrectly encoding Unicode characters in URIs to ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF8

    Lets take the example word
    präsentation
    In Firefox, if I specify that as a CGI parameter, on the receiving end, I recieve:
    pr\\303\\244sentation
    which decoded as UTF-8 gives me: pr{U+00E4}sentation or my submitted word präsentation.
    What does IE give me, well let's see.
    pr\\344sentation
    which well, doesn't decode as UTF8 because 0o344 is 0xE4.
    ä in Unicode is at the codeopint 0xE4. Which as we've seen above, encoded to UTF8 is
    0xC3 0xA4
    So question boils down to this.
    Why does IE9 use ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF8 for non-ASCII characters in URIs?

    Hi,
    As my understanding, you could choose the encoding ways by yourself:
    Change your Internet Explorer 9 language
    encoding settings

  • Nerving Problem with UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1

    Hi,
    I´m looking for a solution to serve this problem for many hours now, maybe someone can help me:
    1.) We need to send our Mails with the ISO-8859-1-Charset because otherwise Windows-Users get the text in the message twice: once as plain, and after a question mark formated. So I changed the NSPreferredMailCharset in the com.apple.mail.plist to ISO-8859-1:
    defaults write com.apple.mail NSPreferredMailCharset "ISO-8859-1"
    2.) So far so good. It works until I add an attachment to a message. Adding an attachment forces the sending of the mail again as Unicode (UTF-8). I could change the encoding manual, but thats not the way we can work in our company.
    My question is: is there any way to force mail to encode as ISO-8859-1? It can´t be that we have to change the encoding for every message.
    Thanks a lot
    florian
    PS: I´m not sure if this is important: we use the osx in German.

    I was thinking that since he is from Austria & references a company, there is a very strong possibility that the character "€" (the Euro currency symbol, Unicode 20AC, UTF-8 E2 82 AC) would frequently appear in messages.
    Even if he sets a preference for ISO-8859-1 as the default with Terminal, or manually changes messages to ISO-8859-1, it would not be possible to include this symbol in such messages, since there is no "€" in ISO-8859-1.
    Similar problems would occur with other symbols sometimes used in business (for example "™"), in engineering ("Ω"), in mathematics ("∑"), or even with some general punctuation marks such as the dagger ("†").
    Other possible problems are the use of other currency symbols the Euro replaced (the franc's "₣" or the lira's "₤") or others still in use (the Israeli new sheqel's "₪ or rupee's "₨"). Ligatures in an international environment would really complicate things as well, as this Wikipedia article about the Œthel illustrates.
    Note that in none of these cases would the presence or absence of an attachment matter -- ISO-8859-1 simply isn't up to the task.
    I suspect that in some cases, if it is possible, setting the default to Windows-1252 (Windows Latin 1 in Mail's list?) would help, since it does include at least the Euro & dagger. I haven't played around with this much, but I do note that in a new message window containing "€" in the body, if I set the text encoding to Windows Latin 1, Automatic, or UTF-8, Mail doesn't complain, but if I set it to ISO Latin 1, I get an error saying the message can't be saved & an "Invalid Text Encoding" alert if I try to send it.
    As for how messages are received at the other end, Windows apps (not just Outlook) are notorious for continuing to use non-Unicode API's even after the OS itself has long since moved to Unicode as its internal standard. Some of them employ bass-ackwards fixes like deciding ISO-8859-1 declarations are supposed to be Windows-1252 ones. Worse, Windows itself sometimes seems to interpret a few Windows-1252 code positions as their ISO-8859-1 control equivalents!
    All this makes life that much more complicated for people trying to avoid problems like the above.

  • Cant mount usb sticks with fat32 ISO-8859-1 2.6.31-ARCH

    when trying to mount my usb sticks from xfce4 desktop(halmount).
    Following error occurs (as told by dmesg).
    FAT: IO charset ISO-8859-1 not found
    First i suspected hal being the culprit but now im not so sure anymore.
    im using stock 2.6.31-ARCH.
    when i checked the .config for the stock kernel CONFIG_NLS_ISO8859_1=y is enabled in the kernelconfig, and also everything below to support fat32.
    CONFIG_FAT_FS=m
    CONFIG_MSDOS_FS=m
    CONFIG_VFAT_FS=m
    CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_CODEPAGE=437
    CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET="iso8859-1"
    CONFIG_NTFS_FS=m
    but when i list the modules nls_iso8859-1.ko is missing.
    #~ls -a /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/kernel/fs/nls/nls_iso*
    /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/kernel/fs/nls/nls_iso8859-13.ko

    /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/kernel/fs/nls/nls_iso8859-9.ko
    So i suspect the newest kernel broke mounting with hal.

    Based on the information given in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=82176, I changed in /etc/rc.conf from LOCALE=en_GB.iso88591 to LOCALE=en_GB.utf8, uncommented en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8  in /etc/locale.gen, issued # locale-gen and after a reboot, I was able to mount my usb sticks again.
    However, now I get "FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!" in dmesg. Is this something, I need to worry about...?

    We have encountered the following problem:

    passing the information between web server and Fort=E9.
    In the attribute REMOTE_USER in the object Request.cgienv should be =
    present the value of the user authentication, so in Fort=E9 we should =
    access to it.
    Instead, many of the values in the Request.cgienv not exists and we show =

    We have encountered the following problem:
    Using the basic authentication on a web server, there is an problem =
    passing the information between web server and Fort=E9.
    In the attribute REMOTE_USER in the object Request.cgienv should be =
    present the value of the user authentication, so in Fort=E9 we should =
    access to it.
    Instead, many of the values in the Request.cgienv not exists and we show =
    the list:=20
