OT: Which non-commercial Photo Gallery do you recommend?

Hi there.
What non-commercial PHP Photo Gallery would you recommend from experience?
It is for our churche's photo gallery.
I have tried Coppermine but for some reason is uses a lot of (more than 100) connections to the DB and bombs out. It does this when I bulk upload photos and then I have to wait about an hour before the DB becomes available again.
http://www.josua.co.za/fotoboek/index.php (it currently shows the error message but will probably reset within the next 30minutes or so. )
I had a look at Gallery and it looks very nice and simple.
Your recommendation will be very welcome.

Hi,
the question is whether you want to use a competing product, or if you want/can to build a gallery on your own homepage.

  • Which of the two monitors do you recommend for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5:  EIZO CG 277 Coloredge o

    HI,
Which of the two monitors do you recommend for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5:
EIZO CG 277 Coloredge or NEC PA-272W.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

It depends on where you are. Things are very different in Europe (Italy?) compared to the US situation.
The price difference between comparable NEC/Eizo models in Europe actually goes in Eizo's favor. The regular NEC PA272 in Europe cannot be hardware calibrated (it has a firmware lock) and the comparable offering would be either the NEC Spectraview 272 or the Spectraview Reference 272. These are more expensive than the Eizo CG277.
Note that the European PA272 can be hardware calibrated with the US Spectraview II software - but that software cannot be bought in Europe and has to be imported from the US.
All these displays are top reference quality. As for calibration software, which is a very important part in the equation, my vote goes to Eizo's ColorNavigator (I have a CG246). It is a superb piece of well thought-out software. The US Spectraview II - which I also happen to have - is a very, very close second, but the European Spectraview Profiler software that you get with the EU NEC units isn't all that impressive.
Photoshop supports a 10 bit display pipeline, with either display, as long as you have a video card that also supports it. Lightroom doesn't support it.

  • Ecommerce - photo gallery where you can buy the images

A photographer client would like to upload the days photo shoot as a batch (approx 100 images) to create a gallery.
They can already do this with the photo gallery module.
    But then is it possible...
For customers to view and select (tick box next to image) which photo(s) they would like to purchase and add this to the shopping cart and pay.
Does any one please know if this is possible please and how it could be done?

    Hi Gongy2,
You can use software to do it like Photography Orders http://www.photographyorders.com
Other software you can use to do the same thing is PhotoCart, PhotoShelter, RedCart, and there are quite a few others as well

  • Which LCD screen for design would you recommend?

    Hello,
Now that my 22" CRT screen is slowly dying on me, it is time to find a replacement within my max 800 EURO budget. CRT are unfortunately barely available anymore and those few come at premium prices. So a LCD screen...
As a professional multimedia designer I value IQ and decent color reproduction/depth, and I would use the screen for (web)design, photo editing, illustration, some animation and occasionaly design for print, apart from playing sometimes dvds, webbrowsing and very rarely a game.
    b Question #1:
I haven't decided yet if I should go for one 24" screen or go for a dual screen setup of 2x 21/22" (or perhaps 22" and 19", since the secondary screen is mainly used for Adobe panels).
What is your experience and opinion about this?
    b Question #2:
Now I know that for the best color reproduction I should opt for a 24" S-IPS panel. And would I live in the USA I would have likely chosen the much praised NEC2490WUX.
However, I live in Europe and there this NEC 2490 is not for sale.
Even worse, at 24" size there are almost no S-IPS screens at all on the market and certainly not within my 800 EURO budget.
"So why not focuss on finding a good 22" S-IPS screen", I hear you cry... well, they don't exist either. Most 22" panels are TN, an occasional one VA. I could find some 20" S-IPS screens, but at huge cost (around 600 EUR). So that doesn't seem to be a good choice.
Alas, I have to focuss on finding the best M/PVA screen 'for (web)design, photo editing, illustration, some animation and occasionaly design for print, apart from playing sometimes dvds, webbrowsing and very rarely a game', and preferably one at a good price/quality ratio. And therefore dealing with issues as gamma and colorshift which are apparantly inherent to this type of panel.
So my question to you is... do you have experience with a M/PVA LCD screen that you would advice me (or not ofcourse). I have been shortlisting the Eizo S2431 (based on a PRAD.de review), the NEC2470WVN... but both are fairly expensive screens (though within budget) and I cannot really judge if either one of these VA screens is worth the extra money and useful for my needs.
Thank you for reading and any input you may have!

Eizo displays are well regarded for color accuracy. I am not familiar with their entire range, but you should check that the response time of the LCD on any panel you buy is fast enough to show video and animation without ghosting. That was not an issue with CRT monitors, but LCD technology is still catching up on response time with some of the panels available.

  • Which of these 3 laptops would you recommend

    Hi,
I got it down to the final 3 laptops that I like. Which one would you suggests. I'm looking for something that's fast, has lots a hard drive space, good monitor and a blue ray player would be nice.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+-+...

All 3 of these machines are solid! My personal opinion would be to get the Toshiba, love the battery life and they just make some great machines. I've never been huge on Vaio's, I feel you pay a little too much for the name. As far as the Samsung goes, I am in love with both Samsung models my store has in stock, only thing I'm unsure about is how they will do. We don't have a vast track record for Samsung and consumer laptops.
All in all, these machines are all rock-solid but I'd have to lean towards the Toshiba as my personal opinion.

  • Which VGA with TV-OUT do you recommend?

    Hi,
I want to play DVD/SVCD on my television from my computer.   I have a P4 1.6A and MSI 845G MAX MB with on-board graphics, but it does not have TV-out.  I was thinking of buying the Sigma Xcard or the ATI Radeon 9000 just for the TV-OUT.
    My questions are:
    1) Do you think the ATI Radeon 9000 S-Video out is excellent to watch DVD from my computer to the TV?
Is the Sigma Xcard better or
    2) Will I see any great difference in graphics performance from the 845G?  (I don't play games and I have a 15" LCD monitor... not a CRT.... so I'm hoping that sending playing movies on my computer with the signal out to the TV would be as good as a stand-alone DVD player).
    3)  I have a Sony DVD player but it doesn't play SVCD, and I have a Winfast TV2000 XP capture card which I can use as a time-shifting/recorder.   Will the TV-OUT be a good clean signal?  (Assuming the Winfast tuner is clean)
    Thanks

Thanks Fam for your responses...  I'm hoping to use the TV out so I hope reading the note on the Intervideo site it will work since ATI or NVIDIA chips use Macrovison:
"The warning you see when starting WinDVD for the first time also informs you of the Macrovision restriction. Macrovision is an anti-taping mechanism that modifies a signal so that the signal appears unchanged on most televisions but is distorted when played back from videotapes. Our software will not allow playback of DVDs with graphic boards that contain a TV out component unless they use Macrovision to prevent the creation of an illegal copy of the DVD title"
If the graphics board does NOT use Macrovision, then WinDVD will only play if the TV-OUT is disabled.

  • Which USB stick , pen drive, do you recommend?

My bytestor USB stick died in my iMac.
A SanDisk I've just bought is not even seen by my computer.
Anybody uses a very reliable USB stick out there?

I have to ask the obvious: in the Finder view pref setting, you do have it set to show external drives/mountings?
And I have seen reports of some 64GB flash drives not mounting in some portables, so if it is a 64GB, you may need to do a bit more forum searching here and there. Dunno' if thats a flash manufacturer issue or something OS related.
I have a Cruzer also (Contour 32GB), and mine will not connect unless I make sure it is really pushed into the slot on my Belkin.
SanDisk has a tech page on how to remove that U3 partition for Mac use. Using Disk Utility will not work.
I also have a 32GB Kingston HyperX, and that is a nice fast flash too.

  • Windows Photo Gallery Warning - Not enough memory

I am currently going through holiday pictures and deleting a fair few. I have folders that consist of around 1500 pictures, which includes both jpegs and NEFs. When I view these I have no problem for the first say 50 or even 100 at times. Eventually it gets to a state where pretty much every second picture reveals the following warning:
'This photo can't be displayed. You might not have enough memory available. Close some programs or if your hard disk is almost full, free some disk space and try again.'
The odd thing is that if I go back to a previous picture and then to the one that hadn't worked, it works most of the time. If not, I keep clicking left and right and eventually it works again. I only bought the laptop today, so the space isn't the issue. It's got 8GB of RAM too, so I should be fine.
    My model is: HP 15-G092SA
I am thinking it could have to do with the limited 2MB cache that the graphics card has. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I solve it. Google doesn't seem to reveal many answers.
Thanks to anyone that tries to help in advance.

Hello Yasumy, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're having an issue with Windows photo gallery warning you of not enough memory to view your pictures. I will try to assist you with this.
"I am thinking it could have to do with the limited 2MB cache that the graphics card has" - This is very valid, as you mention loading 50 - 100 photo's a time, there could just be too much data on the page to be processed at that time.
A few suggestions that may help:
view a smaller number of files
Separate file types into their own folder
Create additional sub folders with catagories. (1 folder with 1500 images is a lot of data to load at once)
    A few questions:
Are you loading these to view off the notebook directly or are you loading the from another source? (Flash drive, SD card, Sky drive etc.)
What's the operating system running on the notebook?
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • How do I insert a photo gallery INTO a page?

I'm not trying to make a photo gallery page; I'm trying to create a page which contains a photo gallery at the top.  I've read about putting the gallery into an iframe, which is then put into a div, but I can't get that to work.  The gallery I've created loads up fine as a page unto itself, but I need it to function within a frame or table or box of some kind.  Is there some way to make this happen in Dreamweaver CS5?

    Hi Jeff,
in principle, these are "rollover" things (You can unse it for your help-function in DW or Google). Or for instance browse a little bit at Nancy O's tutorials:
http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/CSS-Disjointed-Image-Rollover.shtml (e.g. Pure CSS Disjointed Image Rollovers) and adapt it with your photos.
    Hans-G.
    P.S.
In "http://www.belowthemoon.com/apart/" I see a "swap"-technique, which you could use too. Look here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/interactivity/behavior/behavior02.html
Quote: The Swap Image action swaps one image for another by changing the src attribute of the img tag. Use this action to create button rollovers and other image effects.

  • Photo gallery Pages cant go "Under" another page or have i missed something

Seems any Photo Gallery page you make always stays at the top level. You don't seem to be able to make say a blank Page and create 3 gallery pages UNDER that page.
What I'd like to do is create a top page called Photo Galleries and in there put 3 photo gallery pages
One called Picture Art, One Garden Art and one Commisioned. UNDER each of these pages I'd like to have 3 Galleries.
The reason I want to do this is to make it easier for people to find exact catagories when they visit my site.

    Yes, you can.
Add a My Photoalbum page. In it you can add photopages.
You can drag existing photopages into the My albums page.
It's all there. Visible and ready to use.

  • Photo Gallery Display

Hi there, I have created a site which includes a photo gallery, when I drag my photos into the iweb page it shows the photos in a grid format which is pretty ugly! if I double click on any one of the images the layout changes and I have small thumbnails along the top and it displays a large version of the highlighted photo, which I think looks much neater and more professional there is a button on the top left which reads 'back to album' (I don't want to go back to album because it looks ugly!). As soon as I publish the site it goes back to the horrible grid format. Is there any way I can retain the format with the small thumbnails along the top so that is always viewed in that format? .... hope that all makes sense!! Many thanks

Once I publish the site the web gallery is in the standard grid format, when I double click on an image it changes to show the thumbnails at the top and a large version of the chosen image. What I'm looking to happen is that when I click to view my photo page it goes straight to that format rather than displaying the grid first... can this be done.... I'm using iweb as I want to keep things as simple as possible web... I'm no good with HTML, CSS all that stuff. Help a web novice out!!!

  • Create a web photo gallery, in PSE8????

In a old version of elements, like verssion 2, you could create a web photo gallery.  You can also do this in Photshop.
I just purchased PSE8 and I cannot find it in there.  Since this the bulk of my work, uploading photo galleries to car websites I look after, this could be a real problem for me.
Is it in there & I'm just looking in the wrong palce or is there a plug inn I can get/purchase?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated
    Kind Regads
    Cam

I still have PSE2 so it's no drama.
It just defeats the purpose of me upgrading from that point of view.
Like Eric says I too do not want the "flash-based web pages " as nice as they are.
I cant see why they couldn't have left in the html gallery feature in as well as having the flash.  I see it all the time.  Packages move forward at the expense of other features being removed.
I got the new package PSE8 and PRE8 as they could supposedly talk to each other.  Now I find I'm still having to use an older and much simpler application to get the job done.
I also run two screens and when I move one of these new applications to the second larger screen it spits the dummy.
Me thinks I'll just stick with my old proven products that never fail or hang.  Every time I try to move with the times something like this happens.
I fear application/software creators/designers of the day have lost the plot.
Ahh, I feel better now.  LOL!!

  • How to transfer photo gallery with thumbnails from Fireworks?

    Hi
I am trying to create a website. I am using Dreamweaver CS3
and for my main homepage I used one of their templates.
From my main page I give a link to photo gallery. I intend to
build a gallery in Fireworks as I will need a thumbnails for my

My question is how can I transfer the created gallery to
Dreamweaver CS3? I need the same template I used for my homepage
    for my gallery?
    Please help!

Resize your photos as needed to cut down their size use jpg
    or png format.
save then in an outside folder.
next inside the directory you use for your web files create a
    directory
with either the sme name as the outside folder or name
    desired open that
    directory.
Open up Dreamweaver and create a Blank HTML page.
Now go to Commands menu and and choose create web Photo
    album...
next a menu will pop up and ask directory where images are
    located. Then
will ask the destination directory browse to the new
    directory you
created. You will also settings for Thumbnail size and
    whether to use
captions if you do use captions it will use the file name of
    of each
image and you will have to go in and edit the caption names
    for the
photos as desired when everything is setup fireworks will
    takeover and
create the album. it will create three subdirectories one
    with the full
size photos , one with the thumbs, and one with the html
    information for
each photo. Plus three other files in main directory one
    being an html
file. once completed and Fireworks returns editing back to
    Dreamweaver
close and don't save the blank html file. the index file
    needed will be
    created by Fireworks.
open the index file inside you album directory and edit
    cations as needed.
Remember if you do this you'll need a total of 3 times files
    of the
    photos you use for example.
if you have 30 photos it will be a total of four directories
    and 93 files.
for 20 it would be 63 files, for 10 33 files and so on.
If you need to add photos or take away photos the method is
    to start
over from scratch and use you FTP program to do a recursive
    delete on
    the directory then re-upload.
